ijl: from what I've been told, Amy was suspended from the boards for 3 weeks. If she decides to come back, she'll be free to do so in a few days.
Rock, I think you asked about Blagojevich . . . There's speculation he may be suffering from a mental disease like manic depression, but even if true, it's not stopping him from being clever like a fox. In some ways, appointing Burris was pure political genius because, given the laws, there's really nothing the Dems can do to stop it. They can delay the inevitable, but they can't legally stop it. Some say that by not voting for a special election, the state senate screwed itself, because that allowed Blagojevich to do what he did. Maybe they were counting on him not being that outrageous, but he obviously has no shame. Burris seems to be an honest if milquetoasty guy--a patsy in Blagojevich's power play. Obama and Emanuel will be cleared by Fitzpatrick, that's obvious, however. And Burris will have at least 2 years in the Senate. I'm guessing that Blago will hang on until his term is up. You know those politicians like to hang onto their power, no matter their crimes. But everytime I see him, I want to smack him! Actually I'd like to smack all those corrupt men who put their own egos above their duty to the people.
I'm plowing my way through Team of Rivals. I don't know if I'm going to make it to the end (900 pages!) but it's good reading so far. Lincoln was truly amazing. I guess the Inauguration festivities are going to include some 200th anniversary stuff.

A toast for the new year to all the Obama ladies!
You are all awesome, intelligent, and a h*** of a lot of fun!
See you in the New Year!
I'm just waiting for the champagne cord to be popped! Actually, we are having Orangina w/Grand Marnier--my new cocktail creation. Yum!!
Yeah OBAMA--less than 3 weeks to the BIG day!!! Whooooo-hoo! As Tracey says: Change is coming
-
LA..I agree about Blago..it was really a clever move on his part. He really shifted things around on that move. I can't stand the guy and I hope he goes down, but I was intrigued on his play of this. If I could smack him, I'd smack that hair right off his head! ;-)
And yes....Happy New Year to ALL of the Obama Ladies!!! And the rest of the ladies too!! I wish us all a great '09 as we all move forward into what will hopefully be better days!!
Talk to you all next year..when we are that much closer to President Obama!!

I saw on the news that Democrats are planning to refuse to seat Blago's appointee. Apprently it is legal for them to do so. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
I also would like to wish Happy New Year to ALL Ladies on this thread be they pro-Obama , anti-Obama or in the middle. It's been a tough year for most of us. I hope 2009 will bring more financial stability and even more improtant will be a healthy one for us and for our families.
Here raising my glass of champagne to all of us!!!
-
Thanks for the welcome. Looks like I jumped into the middle of a poop storm.
I can't wait to hear about the inauguration. It's a day I'm looking forward to. Believe it or not, my mastectomy is the next day. I've been trying and trying to come up with a funny joke about it all, but it hasn't come to me yet.
Happy New Year! It's going to be a good one.
-
Happy New Years ladies!
-
Happy New Year Everyone! Maybe this will be the year of the big medical breakthrough for BC. I wish you all a healthy and happy 2009.

Only 20 days! The last presidency brought breast cancer. Here's to better days!!!
-
Barb
You forgot to mention that the last presidency also brought colon cancer, prostate cancer and global warming
-
Hey Barb: One of the "scholars" on the "not so respectable" thread thought you were dissing Bush because she misunderstood your message...lol... I am hoping for a huge helping of optimism for a few of the posters on that thread. If they think it's going to be so bad under an Obama Presidency, there ARE other countries to live in.....PS....AMy says hi to all and Happy New Year...she can post again on this thread, but is choosing not to....
-
I don't blame her. Some things are just so ridiculous. This site is being entirely moderated by software which is easily manipulated and abused. The actions taken by the software are supposed to be reviewed by real people, (according to a thread found in the archives) but they are not. I have been banned for the past week. I tried to contact moderators for review. Nothing. The whole thing just strikes me as being so incredibly sad. So if you run someone off, what have you won? And if that's all the control you have in your life, what does that say?
Anyway...my posts are limited but I will say 'thank you' for not misunderstanding what I stated. My life is all about milestones. I got married under Carter. I had babies under Reagan. (quite possibly the most financially challenging time of my life). I bought a house under Clinton. I got cancer under Bush. (more financially challenging times of course). As long as I live, these are some of the milestones I will recall.
I'm hoping that happier days are ahead under this president. If that makes me bad, okay. Doxorubicin was worse. I can take it.
That reminds me. I never told my extended family about my cancer. Only my kids and husband were told because I didn't want to worry an old lady who lost her husband/my father to a heart attack, not so long ago. I went on my last trip (with hair) to visit and of course it started falling out. I was trying with all my might to keep it from being obvious, but geez...I felt like Pigpen from the Peanuts. I was an emotional heap.
Anyway, it was a special occasion because I knew I couldn't go back to visit until I finished chemo and grew hair back, so I took her out to eat. I spent my time brushing hair out of my plate and what do you know but that someone at the next table (my best friend from high school) was there! I was ecstatic! (not)
On the 150 mile trip home, the car threw a cv joint (meaning it wasn't going anywhere). It was dark and I had to get a hotel room and ask my hubby to travel to pick me up the next day. I was an emotional wreck. All I wanted was him, as he was my rock all through treatment and all my daughter wanted was toothpaste and shampoo! LOL.
I left so many large wads of hair in the trashcan in that hotel room I'm sure they thought someone had been hurt there. It was just awful. As an aside, the car smelled like hotdogs just before it threw the joint. GOOD hotdogs!
All of that happened under Bush, too.
Have you ever been to punditkitchen.com? I love that site.

ivy,
If they think it's going to be so bad under an Obama Presidency, there ARE other countries to live in
You see we LOVE U.S. an believe that it can survive Obama. Hey it survived Carter for crying out loud. Obama certainly looks much better especially as it turns out that most of his cabinet is Clinton second term people and not some intellectuals who don't have practical experience. Of course his energy secretary is a poster child for Obama change but I think he will not last for more that a few years at most when faced with the real world.
But I really do like his economic team, they are all moderate and are not that different from what we have now. And I like the fact that he chose Warren for the inauguration. After all there is a reason Obama's aprroval is going down among liberals and up among conservatives.
Actually you remind me of a few prominent liberals( Alec Baldwin comes to mind among others) who were swearing that they would move to another country if Bush were to win. I think O'Reily had a campaign to raise money for Baldwin's one way ticket to any country of his choice. But he preferred to stay here where he can actually make money in Rock 30.
We conservatives on the other hand don't threaten to abandon out country at the time of need
-
Happy New Years to all of you ladies. Barb, I am sorry you were ever banned, your opinions are strong like they should be, and you have always given support to the ladies that need it. May the next four years be as good as all of you hope they will be.

Happy First Day of the New Year to ALL !! s i g h...it seems that one thing that isn't going to chqnge is the nastiness and innuendos between the posters on our political threads...
I'd like to share an excerpt of a newspaper article with you (and with the Repubs who read here...)
NW Arkansas Gazette, Dec 24, 2008: "...people with differing views don't have to demonize each other." "We're both willing to be criticized in order to try to bring America into a new day of civil discourse and to create a new model that says you don't have to agree only with your side on everything..." this was an excerpt from Pastor Rick Warren's message to his congregation concerning his invitation to pray at the inauguration.
I'll admit that I've never heard of Warren until he was mentioned here earlier. I still don't know or understand what he is all about, but I don't really care. I took those words out of context and applied them to our situation here on the political threads, and elsewhere. I like the word, "demonize". My loose interpretation of that is that certain posters have been "demonized" by other posters--hit the report this post button; bannings; reinstatements; bannings; really nasty barbs and innuendos; deliberate (or trying to be funny) (misunderstandings) (mountains out of molehills...)
Lively exchanges are fun; hurtful ones are not.
One of my NYr Resolutions is to, "Play Nice, or don't play at all." and to simply ignore those who do not.
Okay--off my soap box! Best wishes to everyone here, and over there, for a better, happier, healthier 2009! hugggssssssss!!!!!!
-
Barb,
I agree with you that this banning makes no sense especially since we have Ignore feaute. Unless someone espouses a hate speech they should be permitted to post.
-
Hello Obama Ladies,
I rarely post here, but I do read here. Sometimes ya'll crack me up, other times I feel so bad for what you're going through (Barb so sorry you had all that trouble!!!) and of course other times I roll my eyes (just as you guys do with "us repugs"
)
But this is a new year and I want to share my thoughts with you.
Yes I lean more to the right than to the left. While I am "pro-life" I am also "pro-realist" (I made that up) but what I mean is that I wish women didnt get abortions, BUT making them illegal wont stop them from happening, just make them more dangerous. If my daughter were to end up with an "unwanted" pregnancy, she may or may not tell me. If she chose to "sneak off" and have it aborted, I would rather her go to a clean, regulated clinic, than some whacko's basement.
ANYWAY, just saying, I try to reason with each individual thing, not across the board thing.
I wasnt a huge fan of McCain, but he was our candidate, so of course I support him. But I voted for Clinton both terms (caught hell for it from my hubby to LOL)
So, Obama is going to be our new president and with that, I will now give him the "benefit of the doubt" and look for the good. I do think he is making decent cabinet choices so far. I am confident that his first 2 years will be very good, but wont "speculate" beyond that till necessary. I hope, I truly hope, that he gets the support he will need from congress, governers, and the public.
I am excited for his girls to get to live in the white house, and cant wait to see what kind of puppy he gets them---maybe he will get 2, one for each girl. Did you guys see the Ellen show where she gave MO the dog house that was a replica of the white house? It was soooo cool.
I believe Michelle will be classy first lady and am proud for her as not many peoples husband is the president of the USA!!!!
And I think that Obama will have many press conferences, especially these first 2 yrsl, keeping us "abreast" of every decision and appointment he makes.
So, just wanted to say that I am an optimistic "repug"
who is mostly open minded LOL who wants to wish her fellow political bc sisters a very Happy New Year!
-
junie,
I also dislike all this drama that sometimes happen here. But I think we are big girls and should be able to take it. After all we took on BC, haven't we ?
Sometimes things do get personal but one can either ignore or argue. In my case for example I felt that Amy was harsh on one of the posters and I sent her PM about it. But I was OK when she was "harsh" with me stating that she has a higher IQ and better education than me, I thought it was funny and did not take any offense. She also said something about Holocaust victims being more fortunate that the slaves on the ships coming to America. That really got to me but I just ignored it as an insensitive remark and still did not hit Report button.
In real life we don't have Report button so I would rather not use in the Virtual world
-
ijl... I rest my case...
Was going to PM you, but I have another couple hours before I sit on my hands and "play nice"! Hey, no where in my post did I reference a particular individual or a specific incident/conversation. Over the years, there have been many posters banned (some for good cause, and others, simply because it seems like a small group ganged up and got them banned...who's to know for sure) ...for you to reference a specific individual/instance--it seems that you are stirring the pot and I for sure don't appreciate that as a response to my post--wow--talk about misinterpreting and manipulating things!
My "bone to pick" is quite generic-----your's is most specific..............perhaps thou dost protest too much.....
sorry, and big hugggggssssss to everyone--hands going under butt now so I can't post again----for awhile!!!
-
Junie,
I think you missed my point which was that Amy should not have banned. My conversations with her were a part of public record and I did not reveal any private conversations. I did cite some examples where I might have been offended. But my bottom line is even then I still beleive she should NOT have been banned.
-
ijl: I'm glad you brought up how and why people get banned. Am I friend or foe? I have a couple of pms from Rock asking me to report Amy's posts and report Amy to the administrators. So getting banned is just a bunch of women ganging up on another. It has happened to many here and really needs to stop. I can post the pms if you would like.
twisted
-
Twistedzcomedy,
The net "good manners" discourage people from posting private messages as it defeats the whole purpose. It's actually one of the commandments.
That's why I do not post my PMs.
BTW as I understand Amy can come back and post. But she choses not too. As I said before I beleive she does not want to have a discussion on Warren selection. I've been contradicted by some members here but I still think I am right. I can't imagine this not being a slap on a face for Amy given what she stands for. I mean she is huge supporter of gay marriage and Warren who is selected to do the honors is a big opponent.
-
Twisted, you're obviously a foe since you have had to come in with a new monikor. Are you banned? Why would you be coming in here not willing to reveal yourself?
I have no clue who you are ... and I have never sent a pm to anyone named twistedzcomedy.
-
I was not going to post on this thread. But, Twisted..that's a very twisted thing you did. If I came on here with ALL the PMs I've received and posted them some people would be shocked.
Who are you? You said you've been banned before.
I don't think the mods just ban someone because someone is reported. I think the mods are smart enough to read the post/s that have been reported. And the posts from others to see why somone would be saying some of the things they say...I was called a troll, ignorant, toxic. NO ONE knows me well enough to say those things. However, I didn't report Amy for her name calling. In my opinion she sounds like an angry person. I've read her post on other threads and to tell you the truth...I try to avoid them.
So, who are you? And WHY point the finger at Roctobermom?
Happy New Year a day late.
Shirley
-
Madalyn,
The actions speak louder than words here. Through all the heated discussions here Amy had no problem entusiastically defending Obama, but now she is silent. Please don't tell me that the heat now is more than it was before. If anything some of us "repugs" as you call us are brcoming more supportive of Obama. Hey perhaps we can take over this thread since Obama is getting more popular with conservaives and less popular with liberals.
-
ilj, I think Amy has MOVED ON .. this attacking on both boards is tiring!!!
I don't think this thread should become a republican dominated thread ... this is for Democratic issues and their party. If we have questions, positive comments then we are welcome here.
Even tho Amy and I have had our differences in politics, I don't think it's fair now, that she has told others that she is not posting her, that others ASSUME that there are other hidden reasons for her absence.
And whoever twisted is .... I certainly did hit report the post when Amy said some offensive things to me. Not embarrassed about it all .... We both freely admit we have had major problems with each other. It's not a secret.
Amy is missing in action because she wants to be --- there was no campaign on the Rep ladies part to get rid of her. As of late, Amy and I were not exactly seeing eye to eye but we were not mortal enemies.
So twisted, I don't know why you are specifically targetting me or why you are stirring this thread up. If it gets heated it will disappear.
--------------
Tracey, can we get one of you shout outs for Obama to start moving this back to some good news about our country???
-
I'm not Tracey, but I thought I'd give a little boost. Tracey's is shout is much more effective.
And then I'm outta here.
For the dems....
-
Wooooooooooo HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
only a few more days til Obama ( well, at least for me, he is better than Bush and I can admit that even on the Rep thread)!!!
-
Rock,
I haven't heard from Amy directly only from some people claiming that they talked to Amy. I did not post anything UNTIL I found out she can again post here. It would have been unfair for me to post knowing that Amy is prevented from replying to me. But if she can and choses not too, I am free to express my opinions as to her reasons barring any direct statements from her.
I don't think this thread should become a republican dominated thread ... this is for Democratic issues and their party
I was actually joking about this. But notice this is a postive Obama thread and not democrats thread. Right now I am supporting Obama and have a positive opinion of him. So I am a perfect candidate for posting here. And there are other "repugs" that share my views so why can't we post here ? Democrats on the ohter hand seem to have their enhtusiasm dampened by his nominations.
-
Hi ladies. I see I've been missed by my friends. Not to worry, I've got someone on the inside and know which trolls were involved in the incident.
ijl- this is the last thing comment I will make on the subject. I have been an ardent Obama supporter for 4 years. For you to suggest that because I or anyone else stopped posting because we became disillusioned with Obama is laughable. Do you think my support could change because of one decision I didn't like? While I was disappointed with the choice of someone as disrespectful, misguided and hateful as Warren, I wouldn't stop supporting Obama based on his lack of vetting Warren. I don't understand why you wouldn't take the word of my friends from the board-- Ivy, LadySuz, LittleG, DJD, Madalyn, LAP, LauraP, Felicia and I'm probably forgetting someone else, who told you the same thing. For future reference, I am an ardent Obama supporter unless you hear so directly for me. You say you "found out" I was posting again, why were you so willing to believe that, which you did not hear from me, and not that I continue to be an ardent Obama supporter?
You're also mistaken when you say that the enthusiasm of democrats has been dampened. The opposite is so. While there may be some who are disappointed, there are many more who have been encouraged how he was been able to prove to some of the republicans that he was sincere in wanting a team of rivals, a bipartisan cabinet and folks with differing opinions. I'm really glad you say you're supporting Obama and I hope you mean it. You do have a way of bringing negativity into the discussion by almost challenging others to prove our loyalty to our president elect. You're interpretations, are not an accurate representation of the democratic party as a whole.
RM- thanks for understanding my political position and trying to communicate that although I don't think you know some of the folks on the disrespectful thread as well as you think you do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
So the Bushes are showing their hospitality and willingness to make a smooth transition by making the Obamas stay in the hotel so they can have their friends and parties at the Blair house. Now the girls will have to stay in 2 temporary places before they move into the White House.
And what about Blago? He's such a trouble maker, trying to screw over the democrats by nominating Burris. I am disappointed at Burris falling for what's so obviously a ploy to challenge his authority. I wish he didn't bring race into the issue. There should be blacks in the senate, but not authorizing Burris's appointment goes beyong race. it's about corruption and the appearance of it. No one Blago nominated could escape scrutiny becasue he tried to sell the seat. Even if he didn't try to sell the seat to Burris (which no one has said has happened) the act of appointing anyone is suspect.
