Mimiwhite,
I got a cough after my 1st tx(TAC); I called the nurse because last year my cough developed into pnemonia. They prescribed me the Z-pack and over the counter cough syrup. It broke it up! I just didn't want to take any chances. Linda

Ferni hoe high is your fever? I would suggest zinc lozenges if you can get your hand on any.
I had my neurlasta shot today and hydration. I then went and bought more wigs. I did um. I have a real spikie one a real long one and a real beautiful style one. Love them hate loosen the real thing.
I guess I will not now about the reaction to the neulasta for a few days.
I know that the weight gain is from the steroids and the uber hydration. Try to eat less when food does not sound good. Can you believe my onc. wants me to lose weight 2lbs a week. Will it never end.
As far as all the meds It is a combination of eastern and western dr recomondation. I feel that the fish oil and CQ10 are very important as the will protect my heart from the hercptin that I have to ttake once every three weeks IV for a year ugg.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful night and is getting ready to bring in a healing year. We will all be changed what we do with that is up to us..
Good bye 2008 hello 200b9.

Hi ladies.
Haven't been on in a while and trying to catch up.
Honestly, I could not face the posts about hair loss, and I came up on day 14... I am scared to death. It's the final thing to worry about. It's like getting in trouble by your mom and waiting for dad to come home from work to get your punishment. Torture!!! I just wish it would happen and I could move on with no more worries till tx ends!!
I go for tx #2 on Jan 6th. Saw my oncologist on Monday and he said the hair loss and side effects will likely hit the second round.
So, in the meantime I wait, with a knot in my stomach. I know that once it happens I will deal with it after another mini mental breakdown, then I will be back in survivor mode, but it's the drama leading up to it!
I admire all of you who are going through the hair loss now. Your pictures inspire me to be brave, but it's still a horror for now.
Hope everyone has a wonderful New Years. We are going to a friends to watch LSU play and ring in the new year. Went to the gym for the first time since surgery. Got 35 minutes in on the treadmill and my leg and butt exercises. Woah, I am sore! I am hoping I can exercise regularly to counteract this darn steroid weight!! I mean, if we have to lose our boobs and hair, couldn't we also lose weight????
Sending hugs, love, and positive thoughts to all of you.
Lauren

Sitting in a hotel room next door to Dana-Farber doing some last minute online searches to discuss with my oncologist. Today is TC #2 and I am, once again, so grateful for all of you. Thank you so much. I've been somewhat stuck - just haven't had the energy or stick to it motivation necessary for posting lately - but I have been reading and I will be back!
-
bold, why does your onc wants you to lose weight? I'm curious, I always read not to try to diet during chemo!
simvog, tx # is January 19th. Thanks for keeping up the list.

Hi All - I just wanted to wish everyone a Very Happy Healthy 2009. When I was first diagnosed in Sept. I thought that I would be so lonely and that no one would understand what I was feeling or going through. But finding this thread and meeting all of you has given me so much over these past few mths. I just wanted to say Thank You!!! You are all great and such an inspiration. I know in my heart that we will get through these next mths. and come out of this journey stronger then we were before.
Have A Great 2009!!
Colleen
smvog, tx #4 is 1/2, #5 is 1/12, #6 is 1/22. Thanks!!!!

Cebula:
My onc. is a very strict she wants me to be out of danger at the end of this and believes that body fat adds to the chance for recurrence. I must say that I am not morbidly obeese, I need to loose about 24 pounds. I have not read any definitive data to support that. I do how ever want to do everything in my power to improve my prognoses.
Day three just minor lower back pain. A little constipated.
Anyone going to have a bit of the bubbly tonight? I can not imagine not having it but never imagined having BC either. Oh what the hell. Celebrate when we can.
I sure celebrate meeting you all. Whoooo Hoooo Live Laugh Love!!!!!!
-
Hi Divas!!
Just got back from getting my Neulasta shot. I love it that they warm it up some. I don't even feel it.
Bold, the highest my temp ever got was 99.3. It didn't stay up there very long. So nothing to worry about there. I have read that being overweight increases the chances for getting cancer. So while it's good to be at a healthy weight, I've never heard that getting there during chemo is advisable. But each onc. is different in what they do and what they believe to be optimal for us.
My taste buds are already off on day 2. My blueberry pancakes this morning tasted like nothing. Well, maybe cardboard. Only water is tasting good now. Which I guess is ok.
I really just have to echo everyone's sentiments about finding this site and the amazing support we're able to give to each other. I would be a basket case by now if not for the women here. There have been some people who are insisting I go to a "real" support group. I don't think seeing some people once a week would help me near as much as here. There is always someone on the site, every day, throughout the day. Thank you so much!
I don't know if I'll be able to stay up long enough to ring in the new year tonight. Might have some bubbly altho I'd hate to open a bottle and then it tastes bad to me. That would be a waste. I did watch Sidney Australia ring in the new year with fireworks this morning, so I feel like I'm covered if I'm asleep for all the festivities here.
Have a wonderful, bright and healthy 2009. Together we'll make it.

Simvog - please add #3 to mmliv for the 13th of January.
Bold - While maintaining a good weight and fitness level is good for all of us.... I've found that I cannot do the running I used to and now walk. I too need to lose weight, but so far I have stayed steady - and I am happy with that.
Lauren - Really, the hair loss is OK. Between hats and wig, I have been able to handle baldness. Those that know me, realize the hair is gone..... and really don't care. Others, if they ask "why the hat?" I tell them..... most are amazed that I am out and about doing normal activities. So yes, it has been an adjustment, but not as much as I expected.
Firni, Bold Colleeen - I cannot imagine celebrating with bubbly tonight #@!?% My taste buds are so far off..... I might try some sparking cranberry juice - but it really doesn't matter; I too have found this support group to be invaluable and am thankful (and celebrate) the blessings I have.
-
Happy New Year's eve to everyone! I still haven't recovered completely from TX #2 of FEC, although my taste buds are back to normal so I do plan to open a bottle of bubbly tonight. I'm starting 2009 out as positively as possible!
My last FEC treatment is next week, then I start 9 weekly treatments of Taxotere. I don't mind saying that I'm almost in tears at the thought of another FEC treatment because I was so miserable the last time. I'm so grateful that my husband goes with me to provide moral support!
Our good friends gave us a juicer. I plan to try out several recipes this weekend, and then put my husband in charge of the machine next week when I'll need that juice the most. I'm not a water drinker so that part of chemo has been a challenge.
2008 was a tough year but it was also filled with blessings. I discovered just how many angels I have in my life who are there to support me and hold me up when I'm not feeling very brave.
We WILL get past this ladies!!!!

simvog - thanks for keeping the list. Minor correction 12/19 was #`1 for me - #2 is 1/8...
Thanks to all for being here. It feels like I am in another world sometimes as I try to go about my usual activties, trying to act normal but not feeling normal. Nice to know I am not the only one.
Here's to 2009! the year of recovery...
-
I printed out the Rainbow Bridge Poem and am going to share it with my family. We have had some good times sharing our favorite stories about Sadie. Thank you all for your concern and support. I'm day #3 and am very tired, don't remember feeling this tired last time. I'm a SLUG today! I hope it soon goes away. I liked feeling normal and drinking diet coke, lost my taste buds again, so no more diet coke!
On the scarf thing, I was in a decadron whirlwind and decided to try to make a scarf the night of chemo, so at midnight I cut a yard of fabric (cool fabric) diagnally and then sewed up the side seams, so I had a gigantic triangle, I actually cut the yard down to about 34-35inches square. The scarf is easy to tie and it doesn't have a bunch of fabric in the back. It looks pretty good, considering I can't really sew more than a straight line! I made 3 different ones. Then tried to sleep!
I just want to say that I too am very grateful for this site and all of you wonderful ladies. I also use this site as my support group, some days I just like to read, others I have something to say. It's comforting to know there is someone out there who truly understands. I hope you all have a very healthy and blessed new year.
God Bless and much Love
Cinda

Cinda, I hear you. Day 3 for me as well and such a slug! Spent all day in front of the TV while my mom is cooking us a great turkey dinner. Did make a cake, it took all day!! LOL!
What is decadron for? So many of you are taking it, I'm on TC too but no decadron. I do get a bag of steroids before Taxotere during chemo, but nothing at home. Just curious.

Hello again girls,
I had alot of post to read since my last visit, I do not know if I can still be a Dec. diva anymore although I was to start my chemo and avastin on the 30th I became very ill from infection and now will not be able to start my tx untill this friday. I was in and out of dr office and er and they finally cut what had healed back open and emptied more blood and infection than I would like to remember so this set my chemo back until anti biotics were thru and I started to heal again. Any one else have theese problems. Surgeon says because they had to take so much of my breast this was to be expected. Should have know something was wrong when my lumpecatomy breast was the same size as the other and then bigger. lol.
Cinda, I am so sorry to hear of you and your families loss. I wish I could come up with some words of encouragement, just know my thoughts and prays are with you.
And while I was in the hospital my hats from cjhats came and she sent along a very nice note, in a wierd way I am excited to be able to wear them cause the look so comfy but am not looking forward to why I will be wearing them.
To all of you have a very Happy New Year, I can say that me and my 3 yr old will not make it till that time. A cup of juice, a good book, and the insides of my eyelids are what are instore for us.
Cebula before I go, decadron is an anti nausea drug that is givin with chemo, I believe it stays in your system for two days to help fight it off, it can also be used for allergic reactions in some cases.
-
Happy New Year everyone!
simvog - #2 for me is Jan 6th. Thanks!
Well the source of my fever was an infection in my breasts. Not sure what happened, but the onc said it was probably just a post surgical problem that flared up when my WBC was low. So now I am doing IV antibiotics to try and get rid of it. I started yesterday and had one today as well. I will continue through Friday and possibly through the weekend if I'm still red and tender. I wonder how long it takes for something like this to clear up?
The hair is being buzzed tomorrow morning. I made the big mistake of washing it tonight...now it is matted and I have bald spots. I am in mourning. I told the husband it was time to shave it off. I'd do it tonight but the kids are already asleep and I don't want them to wake up and see me bald. They may go into shock. ;-) I figure it's better if I prep them first...or maybe it's just my way of holding on for just one more night. I guess I'll definitely be making a change on the first day of the new year!
-
apfuentes -- I'm so sorry about your infection, but it sounds like you are on the right track with the antibiotics. I hope you feel better very soon.
If your hair has been driving you as crazy as mine has, you will be glad when it is gone. Mine has been coming out in handfuls for 2 or 3 days and tonight my husband gave me a buzz cut. It looks really odd to see myself without hair, but I feel much better and am looking forward to wearing my hats and scarves at home and saving the wig for work next week. It's only hair and it will grow back.
cinda -- I'm so sorry about your loss. It's so hard to say goodbye to a well loved family member, whether it be of the 2 or 4 legged variety.
~Bonnie

Hello all you December ladies. Well, we all survived to see the new year, some of us with and some mid stage and without our hair, but we all lived to see 2009 and I am grateful for that!
Hair coming out in major clumps now. Darn, it just literally happened overnight! At this rate, I should look like a mangy dog by Sunday and be begging for the buzz cut. My friend is my stylist and will come over to finish me off!
So worried about my DD. This has been her dread, and I don't want to lie about how terribly it disturbs me, but don't want to scare the crap out of her either. She knows it would come, but is almost more anxious about it than me.
Took lots of pictures tonight with all my pals at the party. Told my husband to snap those pics like I rented him to be the photographer tonight! Figure it's the last time I will have real hair and I wanna have lots of pics to recall it! Hell of a way to ring in the new year.
I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years Eve and pray we all will have an incredible 2009. Let's face it, it can only get better from here, right? Cancer free in "09!
Love,
Lauren

Iktracey~ my hair did that overnight thing too. One day it was firmly attached to my head and the next I filled the shower drain and it just kept coming in handfuls. I think it was better that way and not have to worry about it and watch it get worse for a couple of days. It sounds like you had fun at your party. How old is your daughter?
I've been wearing hats when I go out, but yesterday was the first day I wore a scarf. I was a little more self conscious about that coz I did feel more like a chemo girl. But I don't think any one even paid any attention to me. Maybe they wouldn't if I just went bald. Who knows? I'm certainly not brave enough to find out yet.
The Neulasta set in last night about 6:00 and I was in bed by 9:00. So much for ringing in the new year. No hang over that way, huh? We usually put Christmas away on New Years day, but I think we'll have to wait until my Neulasta wears off this year. Maybe by Sunday we can get the house back to it's pre-Christmas state.
apfuentes, were you back to the dr. and found the infection? Good thing you're getting it under control now. How old are your kids? I think it is easier if younger kids can be a part of getting rid of the hair. Kind of like Caroline did it. It looked like her kids had a ball.
jajebe3, wow, what a set back! I sure hope everything will heal up and you can start TX on Friday. You know, many of us wont' be done with TX until March, so even if you start in Jan, you'll still be with the group if you want to continue with the December Divas. You aren't that far out from Dec.
I have people bringing food for three days now. That will be nice. I'm not up to it and my DH, bless his heart, is not real creative in the kitchen.
-
jajebr3, thanks for the info on the decadron. Stick with us, like Firni said, we're in here for a while!
Not sure how, but I managed to see the New Year last night! Then right off to bed. LOL
-
Happy New Year Divas!!!!!!!!!!!
Today is day 7 from TX2 and I'm feeling a bit more "normal"...well as normal as I can be! Still have the "fuzzy" feeling on my tongue, but it didn't stop me from eating goodies last night! We did our usual, stayed home and played games with my 18 and 19 year old kids and their friends...and ate snacks! Finally went to bed at 2 am and was up at 8:30 this morning. I've got my pork roast and sauerkraut in the oven ...for good luck! It smells wonderful already!
When the clock struck midnight I was in tears...I was so ready to say goodbye to 2008. Last year my daughter lost her hair to alopecia, my Mom was diagnosed with cancer, my sister and I were both diagnosed and so was my uncle. This year is going to be different for all of us!!!!!!!
It is a new year and it is going to be a GREAT one!!!!!
So happy New Year my sisters and I look forward to healthy year for all of us!
Hugs
Lisa

Happy New Year Divas! I just caught up on everyone's posts and I have to echo the same - I'm so grateful to have met all of you on this site. You all are such an important part of my support system. I'm sorry that we have to be here at all, but thank you for your strength and your support.
My boyfriend and I made it until 11pm Central last night. After we watched the ball drop in NY we called it quits. I don't know why but I just could not get out of bed this morning. I'm very groggy now. Coffee is good to me so I've had 2 cups so far and it's helping a little bit. I'm so happy that I can still drink it! Definitely no bubbly last night though. The thought of alcohol doesn't appeal to me right now. But I wasn't much of a drinker anyway so I guess that's good.
Simvog, when you have a moment, please update the list - tomorrow Jan 2nd is TX #3 for me. I can't believe it's #3 already.
I've been counting down the days until tomorrow and now it's almost here. I'm anxious to get it over with and dreading it at the same time. It's been so nice to feel good the past few days. I still get fatiqued pretty easily but it's been manageable.
Alyssa, please stick with us! We aren't going anywhere for awhile
Have a great New Year's everyone. Let's hope that 2009 will be OUR year!
Love, Elaine
-
happy new year to everyone and may this year be much better than the last. I am day 3 TX 2 and am just very weak and tired. Laying onthe couch with no ambition except to drink fluids and sleep. Tx 3 will be 1/19 and I will be half done. Husband went with me this time and was wonderful but he is back in school for the rest so I am on my own.

Happy New Year to all of you and thank you for being here for me. Last day of 2008 was day 2 Tx2 and I wasn't feeling too good. My DH got home from work at 11:30 PM just in time to get the glasses ready for a non-alcohol sparkling celebration of 2009. I slept most of the day and crying in between. This sickness took me by surprise and I am scared of what 2009 can still bring. Sorry to be such a downer at the beginning of a new year but my optimistic mood just left me for the moment.

Happy New Year to all of you! What a wonderful group of women we are! Strength, good health and happiness to everyone in 2009.
