Positive Obama thread

Did you see Arianna Huffington's list of the things she'd most like to forget about 2008?
That Eliot Spitzer was "Client #9." That Eliot Spitzer likes things "you might not think are safe." The look on Silda Spitzer's face.
That Dick Cheney still doesn't believe waterboarding is torture.
The thrill going up Chris Matthew's leg.
Ashley Todd, the young college Republican who claimed an Obama supporter had carved a backwards "B" into her cheek. And I would particularly like to forget that so many in the media gave so much play to Ashley's tale.
Sarah Palin's belief that there is a "real America" and "pro-America areas" of America.
The Palin Catch-Phrase Collection: "Palling around with terrorists," "Team of Mavericks," "Just a hockey mom," "I put it on eBay," "Thanks, but no thanks," "You betcha."
That George Bush blames the economic meltdown on the fact that "Wall Street got drunk," but never admits it was his administration that made the last eight years Happy Hour, and kept serving up the drinks.
That Alan Greenspan was "shocked" to realize the free market was fallible.
The $440,000 spa trip taken by AIG "top performers" a week after the company received an $85 billion bailout from taxpayers.
That Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz estimated that, even using "conservative assumptions," the Iraq war will cost at least $3 trillion, and likely as much as $5 trillion.
That China felt compelled to have a nine-year-old girl lip-synch "Ode to the Motherland" during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies because the seven-year-old girl who had actually sang the song wasn't considered cute enough.
Michael Phelps' caloric intake.
That John McCain claimed "the fundamentals of our economy are strong" on the same day Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and Merrill Lynch was sold to Bank of America.
McCain's inability to say how many houses he and Cindy own.
Phil Gramm's assessment that America has "become a nation of whiners," and that the economic downturn was mostly "a mental recession."
OJ's rambling plea for leniency.
What happened in the basement of Josef Fritzl's house in Amstetten, Austria.
What happened in Orlando to Caylee Anthony.
Thomas Beatie, The Pregnant Man. That Thomas Beatie is preggers again.
That Jesse Jackson wanted to "cut" Obama's "nuts off."
That Fox's E.D. Hill dubbed the Obamas playful fist bump a "terrorist fist jab." That Fox News called Michelle "Obama's Baby Mama."
The soft-shoe Bush did while waiting to give McCain his endorsement.
The sight of that turkey being slaughtered in the background as Sarah Palin was interviewed.
The amount of press Bigfoot hoaxers Rick Dyer and Matt Whitton received.
The dust-up over Miley Cyrus's "topless photos" for Vanity Fair that were nothing of the kind.
Sarah Palin's $150,000 wardrobe. Cindy McCain's $300,000 convention outfit.
Cindy McCain's purloined "family recipes."
Ted Stevens's Viking gas grill.
McCain's refusal to join the 75 Senators who voted for the new GI Bill -- or even show up for the vote. McCain's accusation that "Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign." McCain's outlandish claim that ACORN was "destroying the fabric of democracy."
That the video of Hillary welling up in New Hampshire was analyzed more closely than the Zapruder film, with the media parsing each quiver of her lip with Talmudic intensity.
That Bill Clinton accused Obama of having "played the race card on me," then denied saying it just a few hours later -- even though he'd said it on the radio.
That James Carville compared Bill Richardson to Judas for endorsing Obama.
That Rudy Giuliani spent close to $50 million to capture a single delegate (the worst delegate bang for the buck in the history of presidential politics).
That the GOP hierarchy failed to censure Rep. Steve King after he claimed that "the optics" of a Barack Obama presidency would encourage "the radical Islamists" -- and that al-Qaeda "would be dancing in the streets" if Obama was elected.
That flag pins were equated with patriotism.
That Scott McClellan joined the parade of key Bush administration officials who have tried to wash the blood off their hands -- and add a chunk of change to their bank account -- by writing a come-clean book years after the fact instead of when it actually could have made a difference.
The Movie Multiplex from Hell: The Love Guru, Speed Racer, 88 Minutes, Drillbit Taylor, The Hottie and the Nottie.
Joe the Plumber, Ashley Dupré, William Ayers, Levi Johnston, Tricia Walsh-Smith.
The Bridge to Nowhere.
"Lipstick on a pig."
It's hard to top those, but I have a few other political items I'd like to forget about 2008:
The conservatives' insistence that Obama is hiding something and needs to "come clean."
The 3AM call.
Everything Rush Limbaugh, including his insinuation that Obama was faking his grandmother's terminal illness so he could sneak off to fix his birth certificate.
Everything having to do with Obama's birth certificate.
"Obama the Magic Negro"
"My friends."
CNN's graphics.
Sarah Palin's voice. Sarah Palin. First Dude. Pregnant teens. Wasilla.
Any kind of figurative card and playing it--race, gender, age, experience, etc.
Prop 8 and the expression "the sanctity of marriage."
The Bush Legacy Project. If we can't forget the last 8 years, at least let us remember it honestly.
Any others? I have to add that on my list of memorable events of 2008 is getting to know the ladies of the Obama thread. Happy 2009--a new year, a new day!
-
None of the Rep ladies asked for Amy to be kicked off --- that's a low blow. But if she feels better over at that other site I am happy for her. Do you guys think you can drag jadeen over there? LOL
-
I must have missed a lot of stuff. Amy did start this thread, so that wouldn't make sense. But..stranger things have happened.
g
-
ivylane,
What you say is a libel. Why would we Republican ladies want to throw Amy from her own thread. What is with the liberals and conspiracies ! BTW if we had this power jadeen would be out a long time ago
Personally I thought that Obama's choice of Warren was hard for Amy to take given her strong support for him. This choice went against everything she stood for, so I would not blame her for rethinking her position. It's only natural. She is still a democrat but I can't see her being strongly pro-Obama anymore.
-
LAphoenix,
Great list; and I have been sitting here laughing all the way through it, and then realized that what Bush and Cheney did for the past 8 years is truly despicable and thoroughly disgusting. But if we can't laugh, then what?
I also loved your additions. Your additions completed the list in my book.
Guess I would add: Everything having to do with Obama's "grades" and scholastic records, including his "thesis" from college.
And Amy getting thrown off the board twice in one year; and Chemosabi thrown off the board permanently. Just nasty things that were done to two really amazingly nice women.
-
ijl, I'm not sure why you're convinced that Amy's absence from the board is due to the Warren thing. I've been in contact with her and she's still very much an Obama supporter, though she was indeed disappointed by the Warren pick. She was suspended from the message board entirely, not just this thread. The moderators sent her a form letter informing her of the suspension and indicating the specific people who were protesting her posts on the board.
Amy will be dropping by the chat room on Inauguration Day to CELEBRATE Obama's swearing in. Otherwise, she'll be posting on the other site.
-
I am very, very sorry to hear that we won't be getting any more messages from Amy or Chemosabi. Two intelligent women who always injected a note of "reason" and reality to this board. For any who keep in touch with them, please pass along my very best wishes.
Linda
-
Wow - I just saw this thread. I had no idea. I am a total Obamamama.
-
Linda, I'll pass your message onto Amy. I know she'll appreciate it.
Welcome klfh! Some of the bc.org Obama ladies are going to be attending the Inauguration, and some of us will be posting here, or in the chat room, that day. Come share our joy!!!!!!!!!!
-
klfh...welcome!!! We have some great Obama Ladies on this thread! And for some reason, some non Obama ladies too. The fact that Amy was suspended, or whatever they call it, is BS!!! It's not like she's some spamer that just came on to antagonize. She started this thread for Obama supporters, and alot of people felt the need to bash that, for some reason. And she ends up being penalized? It dosn't make sense to me.

Madalyn, I didn't read that..but those accusations are beyond excusable...as well as questioning weather or not Amy still supports Obama. Wow. Yeah, and she gets kicked off. What are we, back in the Bush era? Ridiculous. How about this crazy idea..why don't we keep this thread as what it was started for.....POSITIVE OBAMA THREAD!! Do you think that's possible? I don't jump into many other threads on here, but I do read them from time to time. I have noticed on other threads, that if someone starts to go off course of the intended topic, something is said about it. So, why do people feel the need to come over her and not be positive about Obama? Amy had strong opinions...and??? That's what got us to this point in history in the first place!! A collective move of strong opinions! If you can't deal with it...step away!! But not suspend her from a BC board! Maybe before you sign up for this, they should display a list of things we are allowed to talk about and things we're not. I'm obviously being sarcastic, but that's what this is sounding like. And of course Amy can get another name and be back on in 2 min., but that's not the point here. If you don't like the nature of the topic, leave. If you say something about it, don't expect that someone may not fire back at you. But this censoring of who can say what, is real BS!!!!!! As far as Warren, I agree with Madalyn. He would not be my pick either, but there it is. We all will not agree with everything that's done, but that dosn't mean the support for Obama is any less.
g
-
Though Amy and I disagree about many things, I hate to see her voice silenced. There would be no issues if everyone always agreed about everything. I hope to see her back here soon. I am interested to see her reactions as Obama makes decisions that she doesn't fully agree with as he will eventually do.
-
Hmmm...I'm surprised. I heard from Nicki, but I didn't know she was permanently banned from the board, nor did I know Amy was banned.
-
According to the republicans, it is you women who lean on that report button and get people banned.
I'm not exactly sure what Amy did and I think it's a travesty when breast cancer survivors get banned from boards like this one. I'm guessing mere opinions scare some people.
In any event, I have been called a ding a ling. (reported). I have been told I have a mental illness. (reported.) One of them suggested that I leave like Amy did. (reported.) I lost count of the personal attacks made by women who have no clue how to discuss issues and not personalities, but I can tell you this: Apparently she wasn't banned for attacking breast cancer survivors because you don't get banned for that. Your posts don't even get deleted.
At this point I'm thinking that it's all about the money, honey. Maybe your survival after cancer means more around here if you've got a little to spread around, if you know what I mean...
I know, I know...an example will be made of me just like one was made of Amy. I haven't donated.
And while I'm at it, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that someone with a membership over three years is restricted to five posts per day. I'm certainly slow out of the gate if I'm a spammer and it's taken this long to be caught doing it. That's just nutz and I think the restriction should be removed. It only feeds the wolves because they know can hang around at will, ridiculing someone they know can't respond. It's wrong.
I think the moderators around here are so busy that they rely on the board software to delete spammers and when the wolf pack gangs up and reports a post simply because they disagree with it, it is not checked later to make sure it was truly offensive. I think that if they were, there would be some women around here who would be banned themselves, since I was reading in the archives that if you report someone's post and it wasn't offensive you can be restricted yourself.
-
I've said it before and I'll say it again: That "Ignore This Poster" button is a wonderful thing! Makes like a whole lot less stressful, IMHO...
And that any BC sister gets kicked off (suspended, banned or whatever) a BREAST CANCER SUPPORT BOARD is beyond ridiculous. Especially after all the extremly mean, nasty, tacky and tasteless things that have been said about them - that Amy and Chemosabi were two of the casualties while the ones slinging all the sh*t get a "bye" absolutely amazes me...
-
From what I have heard is that Chemosabi being banned had nothing to do with the political thread.
Regarding Amy, no one from the Rep thread was complaining to mods about her or hitting "report that post" ... I have not even heard a whisper as to why she left. And last time, Amy said she left because of her Obama work and the fire, not because she was banned.
So, Jaedeen, go peddle the blame elsewhere.
-------------------
Regarding Obama: President-elect Obama says he supports Senate Democrats' decision not to seat the man that Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich picked to replace him.
So now what? Wonder how they when he will be replaced or who will have the authority to do the replacing?? Is there any precedent for this?
-
So, Jaedeen, go peddle the blame elsewhere.
First, you need to make up your mind where it is that you think I should be posting. This is the Obama thread. Second, if the shoe fits....
Yes, I have unblocked you. Apparently the powers that be don't think you post anything hateful, so why shouldn't I read it?
Is this where I call you childish names, insinuate that you have a mental illness, and suggest that you leave the site? I understand those things are NOT hateful and Lord only knows, we all want to be just like you.
-
Well I dont know if Amy left or was banned, but I do know that I would read her posts on other threads to other bc sisters and she was down right mean to them! Saying things like "you need to get over it" when people were looking for support for losing their hair. In fact I saw her telling women to "get over it" on many threads about many diff topics.
Then I would read her telling people how she was a psychologist and then tell bc sisters they were "toxic" . In fact, I clicked on her id about two months ago, and almost every post she ever did was hateful and this was on many diff threads, not jus the political ones.
I dont see how they kick people off, cuz im sure they can create new id's, but they can certainly tell you to be nice. She was not nice unless you were a democrat lesbian.
edited to say: jaedeen your posts dont bother me, i read them, i research them, and i learn from them. I may say you have mental disorders, but mostly i say it to get a rise out of you.
edited once more to add: rock..mom is cool and if more of us had her attitude, there might not be so much bickering on these threads. rock..mom says what is own her mind, and she doesnt hold grudges. she can be mad at you one minute, but then she is over it and all is good.
-
LOL @ Ja-ding-a-ling.
-
LOL. You lost. I guess that makes you a bunch of losers, huh?
Get ready for eight long years of democratic rule. Oh, and DD: Are you a sockpuppet? It just seems strange to me that everywhere the redhead goes, you follow. (It's okay. Around here being called a troll or being called a sock puppet seems to be a term of endearment, since it doesn't get deleted.)
Rocky you know you look like a mannequin in that picture, don't you? And isn't it just a good thing that kids are so innocent?
Don't worry. I won't use all my whole five posts on your flamebait. That way you'll twist and spin and maybe pee all over yourself waiting for me to respond, not that you're the troll or anything...
-
Madalyn it is irritating to have repubs come over here and post isnt it. Well I didnt start doing it until Jaedeen kept doing it to the repub thread. We were the only thread she would post on unitl recently, and everyone of her posts were bashing us and "picking" fights. Then she would try to play "victim" crying "you repubs just can't handle it when people disagree with you." Or the real bright one when she said "republicans are blocking a bc research bill" which was not true, ONE repub sent it back to take out "pork" and the dang bill was signed into law by PRESIDENT BUSH in October!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, keep Jaedeen here, and I will stay over there.
And with all the nasty physically personal attacks Jaedeen's post above has to rocktobermom, I would think you would reprimand that!
-
The censoring has nothing to do with who is nice or not nice. That's not the point. And just because someone else does something, does that make it right to do the same thing..especially if you think its wrong?????? Wow...you need to rethink that, as it makes no sense.
-
Rock: Amy WAS banned and so was Nicki and they weren't banned by their fellow Obama crew. Yes, it is a low blow and it's fitting. I didn't come back to this thread to start or get in the middle of anything. Just wanted to invite all of our fellow dems who are looking for some dialogue on the upcoming inauguration to join us at the new site:
www.democraticunderground.com
Look under general discusions.... that's where we will be.
ljl: Libel???? Really? I don't think so. As for being pro Obama still, I can safely say she absolutely is.
DD: You're obviously looking for a fight. Gice it a rest, it's getting really old.
-
Little-G you are absolutely right! I was wrong to do that and I apologize. I let jaedeen get to me, and I should have continued to ignore her. Thanks for bringing back to reality and I am do apologize for falling into the "pit".
-
Happy *almost* New Year Obama ladies! Hope you all had a lovely holiday.
Only 21 more days!!!!
-
ivylane,
I repeat again that your accusations that we Republican ladies got Amy thrown out from this board is a libel unless you have any proof. None of us would do this, I mean WHY WOULD WE ? Her views were not really offensive at all and she posted only on this thread.
And I am really upset that she got thrown out from the board. I know that she has a genlte soul albeit a misinfomed one
How can one possibly justify banning her from the board is beyond me.
Does anyone know if we can have a petition to reinstate her ? I am not sure how to contact moderators. But I feel that since I donate money and also recommend this board as a charity to my friends who look for BC cause, I should have some say how my money are spent.
I am going to go ahead and investigate this.
-
Ok, so I wrote a letter to moderators asking them to reinstate Amy. I do hope I will not be the next one banned from this board.
-
Ivy, it must have been another thread where she was active because the Reps didn't ask for Amy to be off ... our trouble of late was the Blaest person .... so unless she was Blaest then we have no clue. But even Amy didn't understand the motives of some of the aggravators of late, so I don't know what she was banned about. Could be she was active on another thread ... ??
---------
Whatever the case, I hope you Obama ladies continue to post some of the new info you come across since some of us Reps are middle of the road. I am not way to the right ... and I know all of us want a healthy new year and happy -- for all of us.
-
Keith Olbermann just replayed election night in Grant Park, IL. It gave me chills (again!) and has me sooooo looking forward to 1/20/09!
-
Rocktobermom,
Yes I agree with you about Cheney. He puts me in the mind of the principal from elementary school that all the little kids have nightmares about! Thank goodness that in just a few short weeks we can concentrate long and hard on forgetting him! BTW the pic of you and the sweet young one is adorable!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Sure feels good to say YES WE DID!!!!!!!! AMERICA HAS SPOKEN LOUD AND CLEAR!!
