I don't notice the expander or port as much anymore, except that I still have one spot on my top rib that hurts at times when I lie down. I think the expander is irritating it. When I AM conscious of the expander, I grow more anxious to get rid of it and to get my body feeling more 'normal' again. But I'm told that I have to wait 6 months post-radiation to do the exchange. I'm not a patient person!
On the bright side, at the end of six months, I won't be going bald-headed into the surgery.
-
Thank You Divas for all of your input, I joined the bald is beautiful club last night, my hair started coming OUT, YUCK, couldn't stand it and I had my hubby and kids shave my head with his beard trimmer! I think I look like Darth Vader when he took his helmet off at the end of Star Wars, not so cute..... but I feel better, I wore a scarf today to my onc. appt, it was weird having something covering my ears
My Christmas just took a turn for the worse, my German Shepherd, Sadie, who is a real sweetheart is having difficulty getting up, at first the vet thought it was arthritis in her back knee, but the medicine isn't working, now he's taking a second look at her xrays, he thinks she may have bone cancer......she's my sweetheart, I really hate cancer. I hope he's wrong.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.
Cinda

I almost forgot, count me in on the donation.
-
Cinda, so sorry about your dog
And welcome to the bald is beautiful club
I know what you mean about the ears being covered, I was just complaining to hubby about it last night! I mostly go bald in the house until my head gets cold. I can't stand wearing nylons, whenever I do and I finally get to take them off, it such a relief, I feel the same way about the scarves, it's such a relief when I finally take it off.
Heading to the grocery... last minute cooking. I'm trying my yummy meatballs, hopefully, they will taste yummy
Merry Christmas Divas
Pamper yourselves and look beautiful!

Cinda I'm sorry to hear about your poor fur baby...keep us posted!
Hugs

Hello all! First time on-board. I too suffered from Neulasta bone pain. See if your dr will prescribe Norco or Vicodin (use generic) for you. Norco worked wonders for me, and a dr will be less apprehensive to prescribe it to you vs Percocet, which is a more closely controlled drug. Your doctor will know what to give you, do not be shy to ask him/her for a pain killer that works. Norco worked for me. I wish you well!

Welcome to our little group, Jean1. You will find the ladies here just wonderful. Are you still getting treatments or are you past that?
Lisa, I tried the pet hair roller this morning after my shower. Wow, there was a ton of stubble on it. At this rate, it won't be long before the stubble is gone. I don't have any hair on my arms any more. But I do on my legs still.
Cinda, Isn't it great to finally have the hair thing over with? I'm glad I'm over the hurdle but since I've never been a hat or scarf person or even wore headbands or barrettes, it's been very difficult wanting to wear something on my head. But what's a girl to do? I'm sorry to hear about your dog Cinda. I hope she'll be ok and there's no cancer in her.
To all the December Divas, Have a happy and joyous holiday!!
-
simvog, thanks for keeping up this list. My 2nd TX is Jan. 7th. Thanks, Kranie(aka Karen from Pittsburgh)
-
Cinda, I'm so sorry about your dog. I have a dachshund who is like my child and I can't imagine what I'd do. I will hope for the best. Welcome to the baldie club.
Jean, thank you for the advice on the pain pills. I have some leftover from my surgeries. Will run it by my Onc.
I need to find a pet hair roller!

good morning and merry christmas to all. I hope that everyone has a SE free day. I am feeling great this week and my appetite is back for now so enjoying the holiday as much as possible. My second TX was changed to Monday the 29th due to Doctor issues. Mine left the practice and the others cant fill in on the 30th. Gotta have a doctor in house before they will give Chemo. Go figure. I am off to my parents to have a wonderful dinner and exchange presents.
Remember Bald is beautiful.

Merry Christmas and a Healthy NED New Year to everybody!
-
Merry Christmas all and welcome to the new ladies.
Firni - I had the exact same thoughts about my expanders...that there was a slow leak. I guess I'm just getting use to them because they don't look as obnoxiously big as they used to, I barely notice them, AND the skin is actually moving more around them. I had my husband examine them and he said they looked the same size, heh. Of course I get my next fill on the 5th and I'm sure they will stretch tight again and feel huge. But now that I've started chemo, my expander worries have taken a back seat.

Merry Christmas to all and a blessed and healthy New Year! Day 4 after 1st TX, SE's lite so far but having a little trouble sleeping and tired and lethargic tonight. I am in awe of all you younger ladies who are dealing with families at the same time as BC - can't even imagine that, and I am so proud of all of you!
Cut my hair short right after surgery, plan on getting it buzzed 1/2, which will be day 12 - am afraid of being bald but more afraid of seeing the hair fall out in clumps
Will celebrate Christmas with my kids and their families 12/30 - arranged that before I knew anything about nadir
but it is when one of my boys will have his kids, so...
I lean on your posts for support and info, and appreciate them so much - blessings to all of us!
-
Merry Christmas Divas!!!!!!!
Tomorrow is TX 2 for me, so I made sure I enjoyed MUCH holiday food today! LOL Made all my favorites...and this way I know there are plenty of leftovers for the family if I'm not feeling up to cooking. I'm just going to believe that the SE's will be minimal again this time. I'm canceling my Zumba class for tomorrow night, but will be back at it Saturday at 8 am! It honestly helps me...it's like Zumba take me away!
Firni, glad the roller worked for you!
Well, I'm going to go and try and get some sleep...but the Decadron has set in!
Much love to all you Divas!

apfuentes, isn't it funny how that works? It seems there's always the obsession of the moment and the previous one falls to the wayside. After surgery, expanders, chemo and hair loss, I'm hoping I'm at the point now where I don't have major worries about everything. Just get it done.
Grancy, once the hair is gone, it really is a relief. I thought it would be so bad, but with a little make up and a pair of stunning earrings, I don't look so bad. I actually have a nice shaped head. Who knew? I only dealt with the clumps coming out for a half day. The first clump was un-settling. After that, it was almost fascinating to see how much would come out at once. Enjoy Christmas and your grandkids. They are so precious. I wish mine were close enough to see during all the holidays. My son and family are in FL and my daughter and her family are in CA. I'm in the middle in CO and don't see any of them enough.
Cinda, how is Sadie doing?
I'm looking forward to starting the new year will all you Divas! I don't think I would have made it this far this well without the support here.
-
Lisa, I hope your treatment goes well tomorrow. I believe the Zumba has been helping you. For the most part, I think the more active and fit we are, the easier the SEs are. Kind of like a little reward for being good to yourself.
-
Good morning ladies. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. Ours was very nice. We woke up early and went to the movies to see Marley & Me. Oh my gosh, what a tear jerker. It doesn't take much to make me cry these days so I was holding back from sobbing out loud in the theater! I felt pretty good yesterday. We went for a long walk with our dog and I cooked. This morning I'm feeling a little sluggish. I'm getting some bone aches. It's day 9 since my 2nd TX so this is normal. My boyfriend is back to work today so I'm on my own. I want to go to the mall to check out the sales but I'm feeling a bit intimidated to go out alone with my "head". I don't like wearing the wig so I've been wearing a wool cap when we go out together. But today will be my first day on my own. I wish I felt good enough to go to "Curves". Maybe tomorrow.
Cinda, I hope your dog is doing ok. *hugs*

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts on Sadie, she was was really bad last night, I think my DH and I were up half the night praying, I don't do well when my pets get sick. I'm convinced she had a reaction to her new arthritis med, she was lethargic, decreased appetite, I thought her respirations were labored. She only would lick ice cubes out of my hand last night. She's at the vets now, on IV's, he isn't sure what the problem is, but he doesn't think she has cancer, that's a relief, I think only one person per household should have to battle cancer at a time. So they're running tests. Of course I sat on the floor crying at the vets waiting to be seen. Just couldn't help it.
I hope everyone had a great Holiday. Good Luck Lisa on tx#2. I asked my onc about the SE's on the next tx, he said many times his pts think they are less because they already experienced them once. I got the ok to use Ibuprofen for the body aches for a few days so I'm not to worried.
Have a great day Divas

Cinda, how terrible. I would be absolutely beside myself if I were in your shoes. Please keep us updated. I pray that she comes home to you healthy and happy.
Well, I ventured to the mall today. Ick. My boss gave me a gift card to Dillards so I wanted to see if they had any scarves and hats on sale. They had some but even at 50% off they aren't cheap. I ended up getting a few cute things. And some really pretty dangling earrings. I felt a little self conscious with just my cap on. But funny enough, when I was in the hat department, a woman told me she liked mine and asked me where I got it.
I'm worn out now. Going to nap and relax the rest of the day!
-
I've been wearing super soft hats with turned up brims when I'm out. No one even looks twice. I guess because it's cold and hats are big this year. It's when I don't take it off in someone else's house that it seems a bit weird. I do think that by spring when I can't wear these warm hats anymore, I'll be ready to just be bald. Right now I look like an animal with mange. I'd rather keep the transition from stubble to bald under wraps, so to speak.
-
I hope everybody had a nice Christmas. I start shedding on the 24 but I made it to church on Christmas day. I washed my hair in the evening and half of it came off. I cried, I laughed and then cried some more. But I am ok now. I cut my hair short before the surgery and very short (half an inch) when I started chemo. I still have a lot left but I will be bold for New Year. I will start the New Year bold and beautiful like all of you here!
I don't have a wig, but I have hats and scarves.
Today we (DH and DD) went to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center and walked on 5th Ave, visited St Patrick's and took pictures. It was a nice trip and I felt good.
My next treatment is Dec 29 and I have no plans for New Year's Eve. If it is like last time, I will be probably sleeping by 8:00 PM due to extreme tiredness.

Morning Divas
Had my 2nd TX yesterday...it was pretty uneventful. Was there from 11 am until 4:30...they were so busy they couldn't get me in a chair until 12:15. Felt fine when I got home, ate a great dinner and then watched movies with the family.
Now I'm up and heading out the door to teach Zumba. Last time my worst day was Monday, so that is what I'm expecting this time. I talked to several nurses who said if I had it pretty easy the first time, that I should expect the same. Maybe a bit more fatigue, but I can deal with that.
Cinda glad to hear that he doesn't think your fur baby has cancer...I'm sure they will figure it out. I know what you are going through!!!! Hang in there.
Lainey...I just got a shipment of hats from a great site. The woman is a breast cancer survivor herself. My daughter and I bought several from her and we love them...and she gave GREAT service. The prices are great! The site is www.cjhats.com I highly recommend her!
Hope you are all enjoying your holidays!
Lisa
-
Lisa, you're doing great! I have ordered some caps from cjhats already. I posted the link here. I'm so glad you like them! I'm extremely happy with mine.
Simvog, what an awesome trip!
Firni, I haven't even thought far enough ahead to Spring and warmer weather. I'm in denial!
-
December Divas,
5th day of 2nd tx. Still not handling the hair thing well. About 95% gone. Like Laniney, I haven't thought about the warmer months either. I just know that I hate this stuff! DD getting married in October; I just wonder how long my real hair will be. I supposedly finish treatment in March. I will wear one of my wigs if need be.
Lisa, I am more fatiqued this time than last time. My bone joints ache more this time also but not enough yet to take mediciation. But thanks to wonderful drugs, not hugging the toliet.
Take care everyone. Linda

I am new to this board. My first chemo was 12/19- WOW- a bit more than I expected. Lots of muscle pain (some bone pain lately due to neuplasta); Digestive issues, no appetite, Hoping things will get easier. Expect my next tx to be 1/9. Want to exercise- everything says that will help but hard to get moving. Going to try to walk my dog around the block now. Hope to go back to work Monday - are people finding they are able to fo that? Can work part-time if I want.
-
Linda, I'm hating the hair thing right now too. I thought it would be easier and I'm a little disappointed in myself because I'm not handling it so well. I just went headcovers.com and ordered a "hat wig". I hope it will work for me. I'm scared to leave the house today because I don't feel like dealing with my head. I hope you have hair by October because my TX ends in March too and I'm counting on having some by then!
Mary, welcome to the board. I'm sorry you have to join us but glad you found us. It will get easier. Just give it a few days. I started my TX on 12/4 and have had 2 so far. I'm working full time and for the most part doing ok with it. There are some days I just want to lay my head down on my desk though! Walking and exercise is tough some days but it's good for you. Hang in there!
