Hi Lori!
I'm in Western NC--McDowell County. I feel like a moron not knowing, but where is Murphy? I am 41 (dx'ed at 38--stage IV from the start).
You have a GREAT smile!

Murphy is in Cherokee County, as far west in NC as you can get (I live only a couple miles from the TN and GA border). I am 45 and was dx'ed in Aug. stage IV from the start also.

I think that would make me about 100 miles east of you. I used to go to an onc in Asheville, but now go to one about 50 miles in the other direction.
-
I actually go to Blairsville, GA for my treatments. It's only a 25 min drive for me. Looks like we'll have a nice cold Christmas here!

Hi Lori!
I've had a bit of "excitement" in my life lately and was away from the boards over the weekend. I know we have a couple of ladies that are from the Hickory area...for the life of me, I can't remember their usernames! DUH...Hopefully, they'll see our "bumps" here and drop by.
Have a GREAT Christmas!

Hi everyone!
Lori, I just posted a message to you on the thread that cp418 started about diet and lifestyle and bc-- but I'll repeat it here...
I live in Bethel/Cruso community of Canton, NC, in Haywood County. I've been to both Murphy and McDowell County and pretty much all over WNC. I had my chemo at Hope A Women's Cancer Center in Asheville, and my radiation at Dr. David Thomas's office in Sylva.
Let's hope the awful cold weather stays away for a while! It is very mild here today, though it's cloudy and overcast, still nice to get out and work in the yard. If the sun was shining, it would be wonderful! I work in the school system here and we all keep hoping for S-N-O-W! Of course, it would be nice if it would come closer to Jan 1, and we'd have a longer Christmas break!

Have a great day!

Hi Lori - I live in Otto (just south of Franklin); I'm 50 yrs old and my onc is Dr Messino with Cancer Care of WNC. It does get lonely in the Wild West! Hope you had a nice Christmas. I work at Angel Medical Center and had to work on Christmas. We celebrated the day before with children; will celebrate today in Asheville with parents and brothers.
Hugs,
Donna

Hi all! Happy, healthy New Year! Wow, it's nice hearing from all of you! Bluewillow - I've been through Canton several times on the way to Asheville so I know where you are. I work in the school system also - teach 5th grade at Hiwassee Dam School. Hollyann - I have my Chemo in Blairsville at the GA. Cancer Specialists (Dr. Manfredi). Hi Wink - I know where Otto is also! Badboob - is everything okay with you?
I guess the cold is back - it was 20 degrees this morning. Back to work tomorrow after a nice break - I had both the school break and a chemo break so I really got to enjoy the holidays and got to feeling more like myself. Back to chemo on the 8th - also get results of PET scan on that day - let's pray the chemo is working!
Have a wonderful day!
Hugs and blessings!

Hi Lori - you have to go back to work on Friday? Will the students be back also? If so, I'd bet that a lot of them will be out.
Happy, healthy New Year to you too! Juli50 from Chem Sept 08 has started a mantra "everything will be fine in 09"!
I'm a triple negative too
-
Hello to all and Happy New Year!
Lori, glad to hear you were able to have a "real" break and I wish you the absolute best on your next chemo and PET results-- keep us updated, ok? Tomorrow is a Workday for us, but most of my co-horts (I work at the bus garage) and I are taking that day off too. It's sure going to be hard going back Monday morning... I just hope all our buses crank up ok after all this awful cold weather!
Hi Lucy and Diane, I hope everything is ok in your neck of the woods! And warmer! I still want some snow!
Donna, I know you had a wonderful and exciting Christmas with all your extended family!! And I love the Sept Chemo mantra!
Love and hugs to all and Wonderful Blessings for the New Year!

Hi I'm new to this site, just diagnosed but I live in Surry County, NC
-
Hi rsben70 - where is Pinnacle, NC?
-
close to mt airy and pilot mtn.
-
Hi ladies, Don't come to BCO very often anymore. I live in Hickory, have a vacation home. around Newland, NC. I was diagnosed 3 years ago - I used to think I was the only NC gal around. Shelia is another gal from my area . We have met several times.
Sorry that there seems to be so many of us all of a sudden. Brenda
-
Hi all! Glad to hear from everyone!
Hi rsben70! Sorry you had to join us but welcome! I am triple-neg also! Do you know what treatment you are getting?
GEtting anxious about the results of PET scan. Will let you know how it goes on Thurs. Went back to work on Friday (teacher workday) and got a lot done. Back with the kids today. It was actually nice to get back to the regular routine but I sure didn't want to be getting up when the alarm went off at 5:30 this morning!

I love the fine in 09 mantra, too!
Brenda: Hi! Good to hear from you! Where is Newland?
Diane: How is everything? Did your "excitement" settle down?
Hugs and blessings!

LOL Lori...."excitement" around here seems to be sticking around. I'm coming off a break from chemo (got 2 weeks in between rather than 1 because of the holiday) but start back Thursday. I thought I'd feel better with a longer break, but I guess the holidays and 3 active boys sort of used up the extra energy.
Bluewillow: I went to Hope from Feb 2006 to Sep 2007. I wonder if we sat next to each other? I'd be the one who never shut up.
)Ok, guys...NOT that I'm wishing for snow days (the boys just went back to school today!), but I could sure use a shot of winter around here. These 60 degree days are just too weird for me.
"FINE IN 09" it shall be...Love it!

Hi Bourscheid I am doing taxol X 4 then ACx 4 I am in a clinical trial so depends on wgat group I get in I may have something added. I am getting nervous about my port placement on monday my hubby says with all that we have been through this is what scares me, i think he thinks it is crazy over this little thing in all that i am going through.
-
badboob67 I agree 60 degrees should not be here in Jan.
thinking about you all.........
-
Shiela: Is your niece Mary Trexler (I forgot her married name - chemobrain)? If so, how cool! Tell her hi for me!
reben70 - You'll do okay with the port. Aches (like a horse kicked you in the shoulder) for a few days but gets better fast after that. I forget mine is there most of the time. And you're not crazy - I worried more about that little surgery then my mastectomy for some reason.
Rain, rain, rain! We've had almost 5 inches in the last 2 days. Creeks are flooding and rivers are rising fast. Can't complain though with the drought we've been through.
-
Shiela, just remembered. Is it Mary Downing?
-
You're not alone but I can relate. I'm in Atlanta with a hugh network of support but still feel alone. Walk your daily walk strong...with your head held high and SMILE
every chance you get! -
We're on a 2 hour delay today for school due to flooding and slides. We've had over 6 inches of rain since Monday!
-
Lori, you got it right. She now lives in High Point and her husband teaches at Lexington Middle School. For now she is a stay at home mom with a 3 1/2 yr old and an 18 month old. She teaches oboe lessons once a week in Hickory and my mom watches the boys during the lessons. I will tell her you said hi.
We are also getting a lot of rain, they said that 321 between Lenoir and Blowing Rock was closed this morning due to a bolder in the road where they are working on the widening project. They are expecting snow tonight in the Boone/Blowing Rock area. I am just far enough down the mtn not to get the snow.

Hi ladies, I am in Texas now but returning to north Georgia (Dalton-Tunnel Hill area) later this year when I retire!!! Hope the PET scan is okay....diane, good to see you here!!

Please pray for my sister MD found a lump in her breast, ultrasound was suspicious. She is having a biopsy on 1/14. I really don't think our mom could handle this.
I know we need this rain but I am getting a little tired of this. I would like to see snow although.
thanks bourscheid for encouragement about the port, I hope I can go to work on Tuesday need to save my PTO time.
-
Lori - I'm getting pretty tired of all the rain too - yesterday afternoon I went down in our daylight basement and half of it was flooded!!!! My 25 year old son was here (thank goodness); he & I started moving furniture and sucking up the water with a wet vac....then we lost power ~ 8pm! Talked to my husband an hour ago and the power is still off! It has been snowing off and on this afternoon - better than rain! Hope you get good news regarding your PET scan. I like your new photo.
rsben70 - will be praying for you sister. I had my port installed 09.08.08; it was an easy surgery - just make sure to ask your surgeon to place it so that your bra strap does not rubs across the incision. I went back to work the next day. What clinical trial are you in? I'm in the bisphosphonate trial.
Diane - hope you can get caught up on your rest now that school is back in session. How many boys do you have?
Sue - welcome to the group - you say that you are returning to GA - how long have you been away?
Nice to see you here Shiela!
Mary Jo - we had a wonderful Christmas - went through your neck of the woods three times that week! Hope you had a great one too.
Hugs to all,
Donna
