Soak your bra in lukewarm water with table salt in the water and blood will wash right out in the laundry.
Congrats, on ur tattoos! I'm prob gonna do samething, IF i do anything.....
-
Yeah Yeah yeah HELD!@!!! They work huh?? LOLOLHugs Moody--I'm very grateful for the way this is unfolding, too!......all I'm saying is that there can't be a person alive who would claim that everything in the bible is meant to be LIVED now-----especially Old testament-animal sacrifice? Many of the rules/laws were to keep ppl safe (& now that seems obvious which is another wonderful gift) Like not eating pork probably saved ppl from trichinosis; the rules for hygeine, etcThe other issue I have is that the bible contradicts itself -- check out Genisis & the creation of Eve. I'm no Scripture scholar, but a bit of research on History of the times when it was written opened my eyes to things that had confused or upset me.As I stated earlier--I no longer feel compelled to make sense of every detail---it can never be as important as the love of Christ......Be well & stay strong
-
Saint, I just want to say, I love you. Every time I read your posts, they make me smile!
I would love to continue to keep this discussion about the bible and its authenticity, going because I think it helps everyone reading this thread. What I am gonna do is everytime there is a question such as "animal sacrifice" and today's times, I am will do follow-ups to explain each thing with actual scripture. Animal sacrifices were ended in the New Testament with Jesus Crucifixion ( I will post the scripture references in a bit) Now understand, I could be very wrong,
but these are all the same questions I had, and these were the answers that theologians and evangelists helped me with. These are scripture based so it allows for everyone's individual interpretation. SO I am not saying I am gonna be RIGHT, I am merely sharing the answer's that satisfied me with the same exact questions. Is this okay? I'm gonna do a follow-up with the animal sacrifice in a bit, cuz my client just came in.
Can you tell me about where the bible seems to contradict itself, so that I my research and see what I too can find? I really think this is important so that everyone has enough info to draw their own individual conclusions.
Believe me, it would be impossible for us to make sense of many details, and I too gave up trying. Then I found in the Bible where God tells us that it is not for us to "figure out" until He is ready for us to "figure it" out! - talk about pressure reliever! LOL
And you are absolutley right, Love in Christ and through Chrisit is what Christ commands of us anyway, He doesnt command that we understand the Bible! I just love reading it though.
-
Hugs Moody----I love this give & take, but I did not mean for us to take over Held's thread!!! LOL
I already have done the work you so willingly agree to share in your next post-- I KNOW that for many the NT replaces the OT (but not all)----it is my assertion that there are MANY directives in the bible that no longer apply.
Genesis contradicts itself on the creation of Eve.....there are many items like this that I learned about in bible studies. I find explanations for these things interesting, but they no longer obsess me----Our God is unknowable! His Son is not! I am satisfied & there are other threads where we can pursue this if so inclined!! Love ya back!!
I hereby turn this thread back over the Held!!! Hugs all!
-
okey dokey. I am sorry Held, one of my BIGGEST problems since chemo is that I am more "oblivious" than I use to be. I just dont realise stuff until much later or someone tells me. I was hogging your thread, absolutley unintentional and as saint said.....turning it back over to you. I hope your even still reading it! LOL
One day about three weeks ago I was on the top floor of the doctors building. I pushed the elevator button (down was the ONLY option) and when the door opened I so confidentely asked "is this elevator going down?" people said yes with very strange looks on their faces. I figured they were looking at me cuz of my 2"long hair. until we got about half down to the first floor, in which case it dawned on me!!!! DUH. so this is another example of me not being the brightest crayon in the box!
P.S......if anyone wants to talk about the bible more please come to my bible study thread I have.
-
Held-
How wonderful to have gotten the tattoos, another thing checked off the list
. Hope things are going well for you.Elaine

Hugs Moody-----I have the same problem! LOL

Hugs all around the thread.

He is some minister that I guess is very outspoken against homosexuals and PEBO has asked him to deliver the prayer at his inauguration. I am not sure exactly what Warren has said, I just know he is against same sex marriage.
-
He is the Pastor of a large church in California. He has written a book called "The Purpose Driven Life". He is NOT outspoken against homosexuals. He is against homosexuality - that is a very different thing. He and his church have given more help to those that suffer from HIV than any other. He is very outspoken about being against the redefinition of marriage.
The lady who did the interview got a little snotty with him, especially when she was asking about things that are in the bible and laws (the "rule" that I was asking you guys about in the beginning of this thread) and the difference between the 3 different types. It was amazing to me that I have NEVER heard anyone explain this before.
Someone in his family had something happen with the delivery of a child (don't know all the details, the girls were being kinda loud) and he said "some people say that it is God's will. There is one word for that - baloney"! Another topic we explored together, right?
-
Oh Yeah! That's right, I forgot about his book. And you are absolutely right Held, he is against the act of homosexuality not the person. I had a misuse of words and didnt mean to. Ooops! According to what another person posted on a different thread here, he wont let homosexuals become members of his church. He said they can attend, but would be denied membership. I dont know if this is true or not, as I havent heard him say it, I only read others saying that he said it.
But anyway, whether he said this or not, enough liberals think he said this and it is another reason why they are not happy with Obama choosing him.
-
And then again, no one was really crazy about the Pastor of the church he attended in Illinois were they? Whatever - it's politics and you can't please everyone anyway. It's his party, and he can do whatever he wants.
Anyway, that is so not my point. When I started this thread I had questions I was afraid to ask my Pastor or other members of my church, right? Well, it was so very comforting to hear his words as he addressed some of the very things that had caused me so much distress. Don't get me wrong, my wonderful mentors, you ladies also brought me MUCH comfort but to hear a PASTOR say it was something I never expected.
-
It's 3am. and I can't sleep.Browsing this web I found your post Held.Do you really need a mentor or is it that your not hearing or not hearing what you wanted(prayed for) As far as asking your pastor goes,I'll get creamed for this but Your pastor is your pastor,a man, not GOD,a man with the belief of God,but not God.....I was slammed in our church for not going to our pastor, but I believe that GOD hear's us.For a while I was mad.@#^$%&*$%at GOD,thought he wasn't listening,he didn't care about what I was going through.Maybe because I wasn't going to church, maybe because I didn't pray the right way, etc, etc, than I remember one of the first thing's I was taught as a Christian,it does matter where you are GOD is everywhere! I'm what a lot of christion's would call fallen.......and that's okay in his sight.GOD will only give you what you can handle,it's his plan for us,etc, etc. It wasn't too long ago,I was really fed up with his plan and created a plan of my own.NO ONE WAS GOING TO RUN MY LIFE,EXSPECAILLY WHEN IT WAS THE SHIT"S!Then one night as I held the barrel in my mouth GOD spoke to me,He knew that I was at the end of my life line........and he told me that I wasn't alone,I still felt alone, but some how he kept me from being a mark on the wall........through his children, many are on this web site,he let me know that I'm not alone and never was,so when you think that you've reached the end of the road(that GOD isn't listening) beleive me Held,he is......Whether your at church or in the bathroom GOD will hear what you have to say, good or bad......He will understand your pain and angure............
T/C;norm

-
Norm........ it's great to see you spreading your wings and landing on new threads.... adding your two cents and your experience.
So, Held..... what points did he/Rick Warren address, that you found supportive?? Tell us more. I wonder if any of what you heard can be found on the web?? YouTube??
Hugs all around.
-
Well, I had been told many times I was doing this, that or the other thing wrong and that is why God was not answering my prayers. I wasn't following this rule or that one - whatever. Anyway, he talked about the three different types of law in the bible, some of which relate to things people told me. He talked about "civil law" and "ceremonial laws" and how they may or may not apply to life today.
And let's not forget the wonderful comments like "you got cancer because it was God's will". I wish I could remember everything he said about this, but I started to cry right after he said "baloney" and went on to explain why.
I am going to do an internet search for the interview and let you know Faith.
Norm, welcome to our little group. I am glad you had the courage to listen to God and not become a spot on the wall, so that you could continue to be a blessing to others.
-
The interview was on NBC with Ann Curry from Dateline. I found it with an internet search, and you can watch the interview or read it, but I must be having brain-fade because I can't seem to cut and paste the link.
-
Oh, Held--I had a similar experience with the issue of "healing!" My pastor (who is also a close friend) & I went round & round on it for the last few years. I never felt any resolution with it. Then my friend & went to a "mission" (sorta like a revival) at a neighboring parish. The reading was about the soldier who told Jesus that He could heal his dd without even going to her & it was done! The woman (not a man OR a pastor) spoke about how healing does not mean cure. I gasped! As she spoke all my questions were answered!! I honestly can't say my pastor didn't say the same things, but I HEARD them in her sermon/homily!!
Held, I think that many ppl reach our ears, but only certain voices break thru. I would love to see that interview & I am SOOOOO glad that it reached you & helped you answer some of your questions. It's like a little light you can carry inside! Your own secret smile...HUGS
-
healing vs cure--that would be an interesting conversation.
Hope all are well and safe toda, Elaine
-
"When the student is ready the teacher appears..............."
I think that we read and prepare and consider and think and listen and read and ponder and walk
and then SUDDENLY there's a break-through,
even if it's the same thing that numerous others have said in their own style, suddenly we are prepared to hear, to absorb, to understand, to accept, to allow
that sudden: AH HA!! moment
which is able to break thru the soil, because of all the tending and preparation that has come before hand.
being open to the discussion & reflection is such a big part of the equation (IMHO)
good to see you Elaine. now where's Granny?
-
Elaine-would be glad to share it if I haven't already!
F&F--I agree, of course--when don't we?? LOL
My secret smile today is my dd singing her heart out right above my head. She is sining Angel of Music from Phantom--wish you all could hear My angel of music!
Hugs & may the TRUE joy of the season be with each of us!
-
I think granny may have flown the coop. I don't understand, but I guess that is what she needed to do.
I did hear all of you and your comforting words of wisdom when I despartely needed to hear them, but somewhere along the line our conversation took a left turn. I guess I needed to be brought back to center and Pastor Warren did that in a big way. I am glad I watched it. I am also very glad my dh was there too.
Did I ever tell you guys that I was afraid to pray for things myself because I was SURE that whatever it was I was asking for, God would do the opposite?
-
Held- forget what all these others are telling you...I have taken a long time to get here but I truly believe this is between you and God. Please do not let others get in between, telling you that you have done things that God does not approve. God is about forgivness and I have a hard time believing that you have done anything so horrible that God would not forgive. This Is Between You and God. Speak with, talk to, what ever to , God directly- forget the middle man with his/her opinion or interpretation....its between you and God.... Never be afraid to pray for yourself.
-
I was under the impression that Granny was taking some time for Advent and was going to be about but reading for Advent.
Prayers and hugs to all in need tonight.
Elaine
