Diva, are you doing chemo now? How long?
For moisturizer, if you cannot use the retinoid product, I would recommend something without fragrance. Not only will you always associate that with chemo but the fragrance, itself, might be irritating to tender skin. I like Aubrey Organics products and if your skin is dry then their Rosa Mosqueta line would be very, very emollient and soothing. I don't think it has scent. Will check my cabinet for you.
-
abbadoodles - thanks for the reply. I just started chemo last Thursday, and so far the scent thing hasn't bothered me. My skin feels really dry though and the retinoid just doesn't seem like a good idea. I'll check out the Aubrey Organics -- I'm not sure I've ever seen that line around here (Ohio). Maybe the health food store?
I've got a total of 8 tx (4 FEC, 4 Taxotere), then a double mast. Not sure if radiation is in the plan yet or not, but I'm going to take this one step at a time.
Hang in there everyone!

It's a little late, but not TOO late - especially if you want something from Sephora and you don't want to go out in nasty weather...

oooh, thanks for the tip, Lisa.
Diva - I've copied a link below to the Aubrey store locator and yes, you can find the products in a health food store. I am in OH as well, and there are many distributers near me.

thanks for the tip lisa. You guys are not going to believe this... so I'm sitting here in my bedroom. looking at the snow outside, and my neck starts itching like mad...
I get up to look at it... I just got a mosquito bite on my neck!!!! Um, hello, is it not snowing out? Am I in the twilight zone? How did this happen?
Good thing I was planning on wearing a turtle neck to my mtg this afternoon. ugh.
-
It's snowing in NY and going to be 80º here tomorrow ... I am freezing right now, though at 55º in the afternoon!!
I have decided for awhile, that I am going to try to stop putting eyeliner on the bottom of the eye. When I was in France, I noticed the eyes of the French girls ... one told me, eyeliner on the top from the inside all the way out .. and mascara on top and bottom ... So, today, I only did that but I did smudge my mascara purposely on the outer corner of my lower part of the eyes.
-
Rocktobermom,
I've read somewhere that as we get older we should only line the upper lids and just put a bit of mascara on the lower ones. Somehow it helps to detract from underye cricles and puffiness. I actually did notice that older actresses in the movies do just that.
I've been doing it for a few years now. for special occasions I put a bit of eye pencil on the lower lids and then smudge it so there is only hint of it left, since the events are usually held in somewhat dimmed lights.
-
Rocktober - I am so behind the times on this liner issue; I line my lower lids only - not the top. Lining the top lid looks horrible on me. My eyes are deep set, so when I line the upper lids, my eyes look droopy and small. I went to a Mary Kay party when I was in my 20's and the MK lady told me to line my upper lids only - well, I did it and she agreed "that doesn't look so good on you." So, I am stuck with lower lid lining or no liner at all, which I will do at times.
Beth - Did you actually see this skeeter? I am thinking maybe you got bitten by a spider, as they come in when it gets cold. Put some Sea Breeze on it and it will be gone before you know it.
My fave lipstick - Love it by Lancome - may be on the way out; as I don't see it on the website. any other nice pink lipsticks that stay on w/o being very difficult to remove? Love it is a nice pink shade without being too bright.
-
If you love it, you should buy a few tubes of it before it goes out of stock and then you are left searching for a great shade of pink.
Great shade of pink-- mind wanders-breast cancer -barf. I'm tired, and crabby-- can you tell?
I have this mtg tomorrow (I don't even know why I take these mtgs) w. this self proclaimed mojo coach-- she wrote some books- works mostly with moms that need to get their mojo back- don't know how this woman wants to be involved in what I do, but I'll find out tomorrow.
Lisa- how are you feeling? I go back to the dentist for my sexy night mouthpiece next week. I would take a picture for laughs, but I'd be afraid one of you would use it as blackmail, and make me pay you off in Sephora gift cards.
-
I am so glad I've rediscovered this forum. I just love makeup. I have enough of it but I always like to look for this elusive new product that will make me look younger and more beautiful. Just reading all your posts make me salivate.
Unfortunately my husband just got laid off and we have to pay my daugther's college tuition. So Sephora would have to wait a bit . Meanwhile I'll get my fix from reading your posts

And here is my contribution: Magic Lash. It's fibers that cling to your eyelashes making then thicker and longer. I put a mascara layer then Magic Lash and then anohter 1 or 2 layers of my mascara. The eyelashes look really great. You probably would want to do it for special occasion and not every day.
-
What if you are like me absolutly no eyelashes or eyebrows. When I draw in my brows I look like a clown.
-
Wear glasses for a while until the brows grow in. Really. Other than that, do you have bangs?
Also try Anastasia eyebrow kits with the stencils. You can try different shapes to see what looks most natural. Their products are good.
Thought of a make-up tip this morning: Before using wax crayon eyeliner, warm it up for a few seconds between two fingers. This will help it go on more easily without dragging.
I heard just recently that in any economic downturn, there were two industries that could count on not being hurt: alcohol and cosmetics. LOL Works for me.
-
mumayan,
A friend of mine who went through chemo went to one of those salons that drew permanent eyebrows. I am not sure they are really permament or not but they look good. Her hair fell off but the brows look ok. Nowdays a lot of women actually pull out most of their eyebrows and then pencil it in, I am very surprise by this trend, but it is here.
For the eyelashes just put the eyeliner on the top. I have a friend of mine who suffers from bouts of that decease where she pulls her lashes out. She put a fine line of eyeliner and it looks ok, you can still see that something is missing but it is noy obvious.
-
Will go with the eyeglasses and eyeliner for now. Alcohol also sounds like a great idea. I am sure iit will make the makeup go on easier.
-

Make-up and alcohol don't always go well together!!!
-
I can't see the picture-- oh well. When I went to Look Good Feel Better given by the ACS (1800ACS 2345) they talked about using powder instead of pencil to create eyebrows, giving it a more natural look. They sell stencils at CVS pretty cheap too- so you may want to try that.
They say you can always tell when a recession is coming on, b/c the money generated from lipstick sales goes up. They said that it's a cheap way for women to feel beautiful or do something special for themselves during hard economic times.... go figure.
Did someone say alcohol and makeup? My two favorite things? Is it happy hour?
-
Have any of you ladies have experience with the "natural" make up?
-
What is a "natural makeup" ?
-
Have to run to Target for a few things... NOTHING in the makeup section, but of course I have to stroll through and see what's new.
I'm with ijl, whats natural makeup?
-
Off to the optometrist today to pick up my new glasses. That's right. I didn't like the last new pair so my opt told me to pick out another pair, no charge. The newest ones don't have rims, like my old ones, just colored titanium sides. I think they are dark red. Weigh like a feather.
Natural make-up? 'Splain, Lucy.
-
About the eye brows, there are cosmetic tattoo artists who will 'paint' in the eyebrows with pigment and use 'hairstroke' brows. Check out http://www.ashevillepmc.com/untitled3.html if you go about half way down the page you will see her work on the brows. She did my areolas and they look better than the tattoo the ps office did.
ditto - what is 'natural make-up'? is it what I do all along, moisturizer and just a little bit of blush and eye shadow when I want to dress up? just go au-naturale 90% of the time.
Sheila
-
Oh, I keep forgetting to mention that although tattooed eyebrows may sound like a good idea now, they might be a problem when the real brows grow back in. Either off-line of might make the natural brows look too heavy. Then what do you do? I think tattooed brows makes more sense in cases of permanent hair loss, such as alopecia.
Speaking of looking good, does anyone besides me think that Neel Kashkari, some asst. to Henry Paulson, is very hot looking? LOL Those dark eyes! And, he doesn't have to accent them with make-up!
-
Its make up/cosmetics that don't contain synthetic FD&C dyes, artificial fragrances or petro-chemicals. I understand that because natural makeups are made from mineral pigments and organic plant extracts, oils and waxes, they're more gentle. Think Burts Bees kind of line.

I need to go buy new concealer today ......... it's a must lately, too tired!!!
-
Do any of you have large pores? Have any of you done microdermabrasion or anything like that?
-
I have large pores, mostly on my nose. Top of left cheek a little bit. Chin.
For years I went for monthly salon dermabrasion tx. This is not as strong as that done in a dermatologist's office. However, these treatments did a great job of minimizing pores by sloughing off dead surface skin and keeping things scrupulously clean.
My aesthetician was a Russian woman who actually trained as a nurse practitioner in Moscow. She is very smart about things. Never harmed my skin in any way. I only stopped going to her when I was having chemo since I had been warned about any possible trauma and resulting infection. For some reason, I just haven't gone back. Well, it's saving me about $2000 per year! Also, my skin is much better now that it is not so oily.
The good news is that I found that Neutrogena Skin Rejuvenator dildo thingy and it works just great to the same end! I recommend it heartily. About $35.00 for the device and about $17.00 for a package of refill pads. I tend to use it every three or so days and my skin just glows from it.
OTOH, if you think you want/need a heavier-duty treatment, you need to read Dr. Brandith Irwin's books: The Surgery Free Makeover http://www.amazon.com/Surgery-Free-Makeover-Need-Great-Younger/dp/0738211184/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229014583&sr=8-1 and, possibly her earlier book, Your Best Face without Surgery http://www.amazon.com/Your-Best-Face-Without-Surgery/dp/1561709530/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1229014583&sr=8-2 Your library should have them. If not, try ILL or just buy them. I guarantee you will refer back to them many times over.
Rocktober, what are YOU doing to make yourself look so young? LOL
-
LOL ... that's me in 1st grade, crooked bangs and all...
---------
Beth, try the Smashbox product before putting on your make-up. I'd like to get microdermabrasion but can't afford it ... I need some work on my left cheek.
-
LOL Rocktober! That's hilarious! We should all use old pics as our avatars - a Benjamin Buttons' type of aging! Our makeup secrets/tricks must be working!
-
Ok - I am copying - don't hate me.
-
omg-- love the pics!!! Rocktober, thanks for the smashbox tip-- I'm looking for a more long term solution though. My pores on my T zone are bothersome. They always have been. If I use foundation, my skin looks flawless, however, for day to day wear, I can't use foundation. Too much heavy makeup.
I will try the neutrogena device. I'm more apt to do that before going to the dermatologist, but I'm concerned that it would cause me to break out. I have such sensitive skin, and I was advised to never get facials. hmmmm.
