I found the loreal mascara. Picked it up yesterday, but won't use it today (Matt's grandmother passed away yesterday, and I don't want to be dripping mascara at the funeral this afternoon). I will give a review later on in the week.
My lil bro is here from TX, and things are nutty over here, so if I'm scarce this week, as I'm sure many of you will be too- have a great holiday everyone.
I love you all so much-- this thread is the sorority I never had...LOL
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes, girls!
Lisa, so the product is helping with the decadron flush?
I spoke way too soon about my hair looking good. Not lookin so good the last few days. What did I do different?!?!? Nothing. No biggie. Not going to sweat it, happy to have hair.
I've also got a little brother in town now from NC and another coming tomorrow from MI - love it when my brothers and their girlfriends come home!!! We're all going out tomorrow night for a little holiday/homecoming/birthday celebration with my husband and some of my girlfriends. Love this time of year.
Happy Thanksgiving my girls -
love you -

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs! -
Oh, Daff, that turkey is so funny but "she" looks like she has a bulge in the wrong place! Is this a hermaphroditic bird?
Beth, sorry to hear about M's grandmother. It's even sadder at holiday time. But, have a lovely Thanksgiving with your brother and the rest of the family. We love you, too!
Lisa, which product worked for you? And, try highlighting the very top of your cheeks to create the illusion of cheekbones. That may work better than using contouring in the so-called hollows. That might tend to look a bit dated.
I am not cooking a bird this year. DH and I are going to Old Sturbridge Village for their Thanksgiving Dinner. We did that last year and loved it. You would not believe how many ways they can prepare squash, potatoes and carrots! All luscious. Of course, there was turkey with a couple of different stuffings, baked ham, stuffed filet of sole, tons of side dishes........gads, it was wonderful. I'm starting to starve myself starting today.

Happy Turkey Day, all.
-
OOOHH, if that turkey does not scream NO MORE TANNING BEDS, I don't know what does.
Old Sturbridge Village - sounds divine, even the name - very quaint.

Stopping in quickly to tell you all about the BEST shampoo ever!!! My hairdresser has been recommending it forever, but I hesitated because it's so expensive. Well, I may be breaking down, y'all! She gave me some samples and I've had them floating around until a few days ago when I decided that my hair was looking as if in need of some kick, so I tried the shampoo and conditioner....and cannot stop admiring and playing with my hair since! I style it and it stays! I wake up and run my fingers through and it looks great! I LOVE IT!!!! Oh, it's:
You seriously need to check it out if you have any hair issues, especially if your hair is dull or color-treated!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, MY CHICAS!!! I'm headed home from work soon and will be doing the turkey thing with P's family. I'm psyched since I adore the holidays and have a ton to be grateful for, including all of you!!!!!

okay Beth just signed back in today!. first time in along time im sorry to hear about ur loss!
im to go to a LGFB program but havent made it Yet! anyways tell me the name of this exceptional mascara Imy eyelashes never quite grew back...
-
Marin I love their prodcuts!!!
Okay my new mascara review: The new double extend from Loreal, it is in a RED AND WHITE TUBE. It has the new tubular technology.
It does EXACTLY what it says. It creates a tube of mascara around the tip of the lash, and truly extends the lashes. It looks like I am wearing very thin fake lashes... it absolutely does what it says. The only thing I didn't like was taking it off. YES, it comes off with regular soap and water or eyemakeup remover, but the tubular tip kind of comes off on your face in black tiny clumps... so it took a little more washing to get it all off my face, but it's totally worth it.
Available at target, CVS, etc... don't confuse it with the regular double extend-- this one is in the red and white tube.
happy thanksgiving girls. Two long days of sitting shiva and I am soooooo ready for turkey.
-
T-Day was great. DH outdid himself with three heaping platesful of turkey and fixings. I wasn't far behind. Thank goodness this is not a weight loss thread.
Has anyone heard of the InStyler? It was shown on The View today. http://www.getinstyler.com/
-
My hair is stick straight, so the last thing I need is a smoother or straightener. But considering some of the hair on The View, they may be onto something!
OKAY...I gotta ask this question yet again....PLEASE help me find a concealer/highlighter that is so creamy & smooth it will totally glide onto my dry, thin, crepey (all thanx to chemo, tho' I AM in my 50's!) skin!!! It's ridiculous! I've tried mixing concealer with moisturizer, applying moisturizer first, applying it afterwards, and not applying it at all. Doesn't matter...the stuff pills up and it looks like my skin is peeling! This is especially so for the under eye/inner corner area and I'm so frustrated! Since I've discovered how much a lighter color applied to the inner part of my undereye "bag" and thien fanned out to the middle part can do to make me look alert and fresh, I'm obsessed with finding the right product or combination. Come on, y'all, I can't be the ONLY one with this thin, dry, undereye skin issue!

I know I've mentioned this product before, but it's worth another mention.
YSL Touche Eclat. I think it's about $38.00 but I have found it is worth it because, not only does it come in a pink-based tone (which most don't) it has a light texture that doesn't settle into creases and doesn't get gloppy.
YSL TE is a highlighter/concealer. It can be used to highlight where you would normally use such a product but it also conceals small imperfections.
Have you tried using one of the primers (simethicone/silicone based) under your current concealer and highlighter?
Re: the InStyler. I'm actually considering it to curl/bend just the few inches of hair nearest my scalp to match the curls I have left over from chemo hair. Instead of a perm. I think it might work for that. Other than that, my hairdresser suggested those bend-y foam curler things. I think I know what he means and will look at the beauty supply store tomorrow when I go into the city for my ps follow-up. (BTW: latest boob revision looking pretty good. Best so far, still not perfect, but there is always tomorrow.).

What about the oil of olay regenerist moisturizer with the swirl of sheer foundation mixed in? It comes in three shades. I was thinking of picking one up this week. I'll keep you posted.
-
Marin, I have 54-year-old, post-menopausal-now-on-Tamoxifen skin myself & have been appalled at how much my face has turned to crepe this year!! I have found L'Oreal True-Match Super-blendable Concealer to work very nicely. You can get it in a nice little bottle the size of a lipstick that fits into your purse. Their lipsticks are very moist, too, & I have chronic chapped lips, so I need very moist lipstick.
Good luck. Also, why is it that our faces take such a beating when the skin on other parts of the bod' still look like they're 24 years old??? I know our faces are exposed to the elements more, but it's just not FAIR! Waaaaahhhh!
-
So I'm sitting here thinking I should take a picture of my face and post it... I was going for the no makeup but I used makeup look....
I put on moisturizer, eye base, and a sheer powder all over my face-- I use the shimmer strips from physicians formula. I read that the top three lighter shimmers go on the upper cheek bone closest to the eye, and in the center of the forehead. Then the darker three shimmers get swept on the lower cheek, the jawline, the nose, and high on the forehead blended into the hairline. I used white liner on the inside of my eyes, a sheer powder on the lid, a gray black very thin liquid line on the top of the eye, my NEW loreal double extend mascara that if you haven't purchased yet I don't know what you're waiting for!!!! and clear gloss. My face looks really bare, but really clean, and pretty.
I am overjoyed by these easy bronzer/shimmer tips I just read about. I love the way this looks.
I am so amazed.

Beth -
You sound stunning sitting there pondering! Post the pic!! I especially want to see the eyes...

-
Yes, where is the pic? It sounds so complicated to make one look so natural. Let's see the pretty pic.
Girls, stay out of the sun. NO TANNING. No tanning booths. Damn it, you will dry up like a bunch of prunes! If you must tan, put a bag over your head. LOL. Well, maybe just high SPF.

-
Or a towel. Less risk involved than the bag suggestion, although I appreciate your concern. LOL.
Must we beg for the pic? - here pretty pretty pretty pic...I hope you took it. How long did all of that take, Beth?
-
Beth I have the shimmer strips and didn't know about the application routine. Thanks for posting. I have used the Olay regenerist foundation and I do like it. We affectionately call their products oil of ovey. I also have use the double extend mascara and although it does what it says, it was a bit of a mess trying to remove with little black specks all over my face that is difficult to remove. I got this when I first saw it a little while back. I do not use it daily. I save it for special ocassions. Speaking of SPF, does anyone have a favorite face SPF 30 product? Have not found anything to write home about and am still looking for a fav.
-
-
Went shopping for the NEW mascara in the red and white tube and our CVS didn't have it. Bummer. Maybe in a few years.
-
I need to upload the pic from camera to phone-- the lighting doesn't look very good- I shoul've taken it in the bathroom.
Gracejon-- I hear what you're saying about the black on the mascara getting all over your face when you wash it off... It hasn't bothered me enough to stop using it every day, then again, I've only had it for a few days....
-
Marin,
My latest try is the mineral concealer from ELF. I'm amazed at how well it works for under eyes (and, honey, you ain't seen bags til you've sen mine [worse yet, my grandmother's, yikes]!) There's no problems with the crepe and I can be more specific about where I put it (in the shadow under the bag) than the creams.
My biggest crepe problem is finding an eyeliner that actually goes on. I've taken to using a wedge shaped brush and using a line of a shimmery darker eye shadow and that works well. Any ideas?
-
Jorf, to apply pencil or wax crayon eyeliner, slightly stretch your eyelid to the side with a finger while applying. Make it a very thin line in the lashline. Then, smudge with pointy sponge thingy.
gracejon, Clinique makes a nice SPF25 face product called City Block. Not greasy at all.
-
Good idea (kind of a "duh" that I didn't get!!
). Probably didn't think about it because that's exactly how I pop my contacts out.... I'll try it with my eye closed and hope not to put an eye out with having no binocular vision! -
Not feeling very purdy today.. had my cavitiy filled. Okay, it wasn't as bad as I thought, until I decided to have my mouth molded for a night appliance cause I grind my teeth. OMG-- I gagged the second she put the gloppy grossness in my mouth... and the worst part!!! It didn't take well, and we had to do it again. UGH.
So now I'm home, and happily spending the day under the covers. Since I won't be doing any holiday splurging-- I found an old gift card for Williams Sonoma that we never used-- I ordered this wonderful peppermint soap and hand lotion, a peppermint candle, and a great glass bowl, and of course had to order some peppermint bark to go in it... It totally made my day when it arrived today. Not that I can eat the bark right now, but it's pretty to look at. And it ended up costing me $10 for everything on top of the gift card... my kind of holiday treat.
I will eventually drag myself to the mall b/c I want to go to Sephora and try that Smashbox lip gloss. I need to buy a gift for the Yankee swap we're doing at christmas... I think the limit is $50 and it has to be a universal gift-- for either a guy or girl-- any suggestions?
-
Beth - glad you survived your dentistry - even if only just barely! I've seen all the Wms-Sonoma packages you got - what a treat! And excellent timing! $10 is my kinda splurge.
I second Tina's vote for City Block. I wear a thin layer and it is not gooey because it is a physical block, not a goopy emollient one. It doesn't get in your eyes, either. Another option (and more for your money) is the newer Helioplex from Neutrogena. Also a physical block and wide spectrum UVA/UVB and like a 45SPF and UP!
Lisa
-
Love Neutrogena.
-
Oooh, dental work. Didn't know that. My sympathies on the gagging reflex. I'm glad you are well tucked in now, though.
I forgot about the Neutrogena with Helioplex. Actually have used the all-over sunscreen for two seasons now. It comes in all sorts of vehicles. Never thought of it for facial use all year, though. I love Neutrogena stuff. Their skin rejuvenator is wonderful! Vibrates and all. LOL
-
Wow, what a great thread! I need to start at the beginning and read all the way through! Until I do that, what are your favorite day and night moisturizers for chemo-skin? I used to use a prescription retinoid with a light moisturizer at night, but that seems too tough on my skin now. I often use the Olay facecloths for dry skin... clean my face, gets that double-extend tube mascara off and then I can rinse it off and wipe down the sink!
Thanks for all the great posts.
-
Stay cozy, Beth and enjoy your peppermint candle.
Olay for my face although it's only a SPF 15.
Wiping down the sink with the facecloth, Diva! Good idea!!
