I have had all three of these types of energy work done.

My mom does healing touch and she and a group of other ladies who do it have given me treatments all the way through this process.  I have even learned how to do it for myself, though when I am feeling ill it is harder to center myself without someone helping.  I am doing some reading now on the purpose of intent.  How you can actually send energy to people who are far away from you....interesting concept, but I don't know if I totally understand it yet.

I have used accupuncture for several things and am going to start going in on my "off week" from chemo for some work boosting my immune system and detoxifying my body.

I have only had Reiki treatment two times, but both of them were very powerful and the woman was very intutive as to my problems.

So.....who here uses some type of energy work?  Care to share?

I had one Reiki treatment, probably 4 years ago (so 3 years before BC dx), from a friend who does Reiki and offered me a treatment in exchange for some paperwork I had done for her.  It really was powerful.  I was really amazed at how my body responded to this woman's hands being NEAR my skin, but almost never touching it.  At the time, it helped relieve ongoing arthritis/bursitis issue.

I've been thinking of having more... but that's my only experience.

I've used acupuncture and Reiki both. In fact, I was so intrigued with Reiki that I went on to become a Reiki Master.....and yes, you can send Reiki thru time and space to someone or to an event.  I had soooooooooooooo many people who sent Reiki to my surgeries and I do believe that it helped me to wake quickly from anesthesia,  have little pain and heal quickly. As for the acupuncture, my acupunctuist has done more for me than ANY medical Dr.   Best wishes

I've been getting body work for over 20 years.  Have seen mostly the same two MT's.  They throw in Feldenkris, (sp?), Reiki, Cranio-sacral and about anything else they feel I need or they are up to doing.  Had some acupuncture since the BC and chiro.

My latest is more self massage and energy work since TMJ and the stress of the diagnosis are problems at times.

I had Reiki all through my chemo treatments and it helped me emotionally and I think better able to deal with the SE of the drugs.

I could actually feel the heat near my incision site and several other places.
I met a woman who swears that Reiki saved her life.

I had Reiki during radiation therapy 2 times a week , rife machine monthly, homeopathic, vibrational therapy, and vibrational oil therapy daily. I took teas, and Kombuca during radiation.

I still take juices, and keep to a alkaline PH. I use

13 C, DIM, and duel coniferous vegetable extracts. I was attuned to Reiki and am Reiki 2 ( fire dragon), so I treat myself most everyday.

    Hi Deb!

I'm taking my Mom for her first Reiki session this friday!  She's been really interested since my first session (and subsequent sessions) since early this year.  I didn't know you were so knowledgeable about it all.  Glad to hear it's working well for you, this will be my first session since starting chemo.

I really like my Reiki practitioner.  She healed me of my needlephobia, almost totally.  I am actually able to give myself daily injections now, something that I would have fainted from before.  While I still can't watch blood draws, I haven't fainted in months!

I don't know how I missed this post before.

I'm a firm believer in Reiki - but it took a few times to find the right practitioner. I swear by the lady that I see and if I could afford to I'd see her more often than once a year.

Hi Alaskadeb, I love it when someone talks about something out of the traditional box!!  Thankyou. Has anyone tried a good / truely effective Homeopathic?  I have been researching for 6 yrs now and used many formulas that are bogus to my body, I finally found a company that makes something that penetrates my brick body. There is a good site to see, it explains about pH balance and acid body.  My family & my friends are pretty safe with our balanced bodies. We use a formula called Acid Clenz. There are not many products out there that balance the pH effectively so this homeopathic formula is superb.  I bet those of you who have cancer in any form have an acid body.  This is the real root of an ill health issue.  I am not sure I can put the site up on this board?  If I can please let me know.  Will look forward to your replies. healthgirl

reiki has been proven to help need less meds and to heal better after surgeries as well. It helps your own body do it's thing.

I just tried a one-one session of Tong Ren with a bit of Reiki thrown in.  I wanted to focus on my energy and a feeling of being blocked with my energy flow.  I feel it most when I am running.  I don't have the flow I was accustomed to prior to treatment (finished surgery/chemo/rads at Thanksgiving 2007).  It may be a placebo but I did note some improvement when I ran a race a couple days later.  I will continue with this treatment both in a communal setting (weekly group sessions) and individual (a couple weeks from now).

Here is a link for more info:  http://www.tongrenworld.com/TRW_Eng_home.html

Has anyone else tried Tong Ren?

    AlaskaDeb,

I was very skeptical about Reike, meditation, etc. until I went to a Reike circle at a friend's house. I don't know exactly what happened but I felt the negative energy flow out of my body. It was a wonderful feeling and totally energizing. I am a believer now! Many people have told me to try acupuncture but I am still not sold on that idea.

           Hugs to all...

Thanks for remindingi me of Reiki. I'm not recovering as well as I thought I would, given the condition I was in went into all this. Soo, I'm pretty much finished except for the reconstruction.

But I feel like the dickens. No immunity. Constant irritable bowel syndrome.recurring herpes, headaches,TMJ.high blood pressure, have I missed anything?

So, I need to back off of the medical model and move towards natural healing. When I was living on Vieques Island, off of Puerto Rico five years ago, I was stung on the foot by a centipede in my shoe. A beautiful woman from the island came over and did Reiki on my stinging, swollen, painful foot. And it whent away.Immediatel.

    reiki!! Thanks!

I may need to look into Reiki. I've been getting acupuncture, massage, naturopathic treatment and do Kundalini yoga which I find amazingly helpful. I also went to a gong bath which was a wonderful experience as well.

Hello ladies.....I was so impressed with my first Healing Touch session that I just completed level two in my studies.  I have been able to help quite a few ladies thru some tough times and my table is always open for anyone going thru treatment within driving distance of southern San Diego!  I also have an incredible acupuncturist who knows just how to take care of my lymphedema and side effects from hormonals.  I have been doing a bit of reading up on Reiki and have two friends who are practitioners on the "other" coast.  It's all about getting the body, mind and soul in harmony.  Meditation and yoga are wonderful ways to get your body to breath properly and to clear the kinks out...whether they be physical or emotional.  Please know that as far as Healing Touch goes it originated in the nursing community.  Most hospitals doing cancer programs have it available to patients during treatment....in some cases you just have to ask for it.  Usually it is free and you can request a nurse to do HT on you before and/or after a surgery or treatment.  The hospital will know who on staff is trained.  It is a wonderfully healing tool...besides it's soooooo relaxing.  Some of the larger insurance companies don't cover acupuncture but mine did just compile a list of practitioners who have agreed to take their clients for 25% less on their fees.  I think EWB it's like a doctor...ask around...San Diego has a "Natural Guide" that they publish for alternative living.  Pick a few and talk to them till you find the one that seems to fit. The first one I went to said I needed 2 to 3 sessions a week for 4-6 weeks..Who could afford that at $85 a clip?  I think the minimum time I've spent with this acupuncturist has been 3-4 hrs. I've seen him once a week for the past month and what a difference! With my discount I pay $45 per session.  Best money I have ever spent!  I wish you all well dear ladies.......Jo

ewb, i don't know where in jersey you are but i had a reiki treatment when i was in the hosp. last month (community med. center, toms river).  it is free to cancer patients.  the women who do it told me that they have outpatient hours at the hospital and i could go as an outpatient to continue treatments at no charge.  the only thing i felt the one time i had it was extreme heat when her hands passed over parts of my body that there was a problem with...namely my abdominal area.  i was in for acute pancreatitis and that is where my mets are...in my abdominal lymph nodes.  after the holidays i'm going to give it another try as well as try accupuncture.  i already have the name of someone good.  if you're in this area you might be able to try the reiki at no charge to you.

Thanks for the info- I am in Parsippany, Morris County.  I had tried reiki @ St Barnabas (livingston) but wasn't impressed by  holistic nurse doing it, didn't get any thing from it but really feel drawn to  trying these complimentary  treatments. Guess I will keep looking.  Are you in Tom River area?

Hope today is a good day...Elaine

I am doing acupuncture for the first time to help with side effects of chemo. I have been interested in it for a while though. I am not very familiar with Reiki. Can someone please tell me about the benefits and process/procedure?

    Thanks,

EWB - Check out this site.  It was highly recommended by the

A friend of mine is a nurse and did Healing Touch on me as I went through chemo, about every week or every other week.. As I approached surgery, (mastectomy) she also focused on the breast. I would feel like a glowing sensation, hard to describe. She would also feel it in her hand! I find this very amazing...

    Hi New Jersey ladies,

Reading your posts reminded me of the beginnings of my search to learn more about energy work.  So I'll pass on what came to my mind.

Reiki in the right hands (no pun intended) can be an incredible gift to both the healer and the healed. It is wise to be selective of your practitioner.  I know of a trusted spirituality center in Aston Pa who may be helpful to direct you to someone in your area. www.fscaston.org.

I'm 2nd level and my husband is at Master level.

Another resource that I use is a combination of exercise and energy work.  The program was introduced to me several years ago.  I found it akin to Reiki and the exercise program well constructed.  I'm reading Mr. Lee's book Longevity now (received it last week) and find it holistic, down to earth, common sense and very accessible.  There is a web site that lists programs in various areas of the country. http://www.thelightoflife.com/eng/workshops.php

Over the years I also practiced yoga, thi chi and meditation.

I would suggest Maxwell Maltz Psycho-Cybernetics.  I read this in 70's and is still one of the best books I'd read as an introduction to meditation.  And Depok Chopra's Quantum Healing is good too.  But Howard Lee's book is written in a way to easily absorb the concept and objective of a healthy body and mind working together.

I hope this is helpful.  Energy work is really about you.  I wish you the best on your discovery.

Thanks for the info-  my biggest hurdle is to know how to screen practioners- what questions to ask, what are red flags to quack-dom etc.  Any info is welcome!

    Hi EWB,

Your question is a good one to ask and difficult to answer.   I'll share my thoughts for what they are worth.

Because these disciiplines were not fully embraced by western medicine, this made the search for competent practitioners harder.  This was true much more on the East coast than the West coast.  Years ago I worked with several universities across the country to develop a pain management center for our doctors.  In Arizona I found a clinic (Mayo) who operated a fully integrated western and "alternative or holistic" medicine.  It was heartening.  In New Mexico also.  I found Emory and Johns Hopkins progressive and moving in that direction as well.  So, since that was at least 15 years ago, I can only guess that they've made inroads since then. Since then there has been an explosion of Brain Science linking our own abilities through meditation (a rose by any other name...) to exercise areas of the brain and effectuate pain relief for greater periods of time than possible with medication...true.

I'm acedemic with a dash of intuition when it comes to research.  I want to know where the person trained...for how long.  For example, an acupuncturist I used was recommended by a good friend.  I learned that this Chinese practitioner was also medically trained at the U of P.  I also learned that some of the oncologist from that institution recommended her to their patients (outside the conservative framework of western medicine at that time).  I suspect that the universities might be a good place to start to ask the questions these days....they've come a long way.

The other thought I had as I was waking this morning was this.  After I did the acedemic research and met with the person I always listen to my instincts about them rather than allow them to tell you how to feel....no exceptions.  By this I mean that a well trained practitioner is clear, calm and has a well balanced ego.  They will be mindful to protect their own energy as they work to help heal yours.  Speaking for myself, I do not permit just anyone to work with my energy....whether alternative or traditional medicine.

    I hope this is helpful.
