My 58 year old friend, Kathy, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer within a week of when Patrick Swayze was, and she started home hospice care last week, so their cancers seem to be on the same time line. (My friend Kathy was stage IV at diagnosis.) She has lived a very healthy life. As you probably know, Randy Pausch also died of this awful disease last summer.    http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/ As we know, life isn't fair.

Only a small fraction of people with pancreatic cancer are eligible for surgery when they are diagnosed. Only 15-20% of patients with pancreatic carcinoma present with easily resectable disease with no evidence of local advancement     http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic1712.htm

At least it seems like my friend's pain is under control.  It must be awful to go through this under public scrutiny.

Good news, I've read that Patrick has come out to say that the rumors are not true and that he's currently doing fine!  I certainly hope so, I love that guy.

Leaf, I checked out the website you posted on Randy Pausch, what a horrible loss, he seemed like a great man, and still so young.  I haven't had the guts yet to listen to his "Last Lecture" on utube , because I know I'll cry.  Thanks for sharing his story.

A woman I used to work with had surgery for her pancreatic cancer over 3 years ago and is still doing well.
