"Dirty Dancing" star Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment, a representative for the actor said Wednesday in a written statement

More horrible news. I absolutely loved "Dirty Dancing." I can't believe he's 55!

So sad. It's an extremely painful cancer. TOO MUCH CANCER in relatively young people!
-
I just read this!! I hate this damn disease!! Not good.
-
I wish him excellant care, seasoned doctors, family love, and much warmth felt from those of us who walk along this street name cancer.
Tender -
I also can't believe he's 55. Most people dx with pancreatic cancer won't live a year, even if he caught it early, which is unusual for pancreatic cancer, chemo usually isn't that effective.
-
We don't know what kind of pancreatic cancer he has - did you know Steve Jobs (Apple) was dxed with pancreatic cancer in 2003? He was actually very lucky, his type of tumor was considered "curable". He hemmed & hawed about surgery for 9 months because he was a Buddhist and didn't really trust traditional medicine. He had the surgery in 2004 and he has been fine since. Maybe we can hope the case is similar for Patrick. I loved Dirty Dancing.
-
I just heard about Patrick on the Today Show. My thoughts are with Patrick and family. I love Dirty Dancing. My kids tease me because I have watched the movie about 100 times and I love it every time.
-
My mom died from Pancreatic cancer in about 6-8 weeks. It was agressive and very painful. I hope he's one of the rare lucky ones that make it. I loved him in Dirty Dancing and I loved to hate him in Keeping Mum.
-
I loved him in "Ghosts" and "To Wong Fu, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar" with Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo. Remember his song "She's Like the Wind"?
I wish him well with his treatment. It must suck to have to go through this so publicly...
-
I thought the way the story came out was horrible. The whole "5 weeks to live" thing was really heartless. It doesn't even matter so much if it's true or not. For whatever reason, P.S. decided to keep his diagnosis and treatment quiet and someone betrayed him. It was hard enough to keep the fear at bay during treatment. I can't imagine if I'd seen "Erica has 5 weeks to live!" all over the internet. I hope his treatment does work.

Pathick Swayzee didn't do much for me in dirty dancing. Kind of a gal flick if you know what I mean. Ghost was an awesome flick. Lets hope that Patrick , and society as a whole will give Patrick and his family the much deserved privacy that all human being deserve in such trying times. I am sure that that the paparatzi Sp? will do all that they can to get that million dollar snap shot when things become a bit more serious and I hope that none of them get a snap shot. The media is what makes these stars the millionaires that they are and its the general population that has created the demand for the product (snap shot) by buying the magazines that these pictures are printed in. I won't be buying any of the articles as to justify the harrassment he is definitely going to get from the photo natzi's.

I have loved Patrick Swayzee since he was in a mini series years ago...the name is escaping me! I have seen him in many of his famous and not so famous movies. I heard this news yesterday...and was so saddened. I too thought that the way the media put the news out there was very insensitive.
Here is a man...who has lived a very healthy life, taken great care of himself...and this darn dreaded disease has got a hold of him too! I hate this *&%$#* disease!!!
You just never know!
Prayers for him and his wife.

Lisa...."North and South"...I loved that mini-series too. I will keep Patrick in my prayers. Cancer does suck!
Hugs and prayers,

I loved North and South!
I was listening to GMA this morning and Dr Snyderman was saying that pancreatic cancer is usually only curable if caught early and most of those cases are found accidently. Once you are symptomatic is oftentimes too late. Hopefully, they can prolong his life ....
She said that age, sex (usually male), race (most African Americans), smoking and diet (bad) are the risk factors. But she said mostly: it's a crapshoot. Sad.
-
I think this is the type of cancer that Michael Landon had as well.
-
When I was dx I searched for lists of famous BC survivors. The list was lengthy. Since I didn't know anything about pancreatic cancer, I did some searching on the subject. I happened to stumble across a list of famous people who had died from it. It was a decent length and there was a list of famous survivors. I think there were 4 names. THAT was sobering.

Only 4% of pancreatic cancer patients live more than 2 years. My neighbor was dx with it and given 6 months to a year, she lived 3 weeks.
What's sad to me is with all the walk and runs for breast cancer awareness, pancreatic, prostrate, lung and other cancers don't get publicity or funding.
-
In 1986, my boss died of Panc Cancer. He was only 33! He was in excruciating pain and died about 4 months after dx. So sad.
-
My FIL died from pancreatic cancer that had initially been misdiagnosed as late life diabetes. In a way we were actually glad of the wrong dignosis, he was able to continue his job as a minister and lived normally until 3 weeks before his death. No endless dr appts and treatments. Just pallative care after he collapsed and was sent to the hospital.

Rocker Jeff Healey recently died of cancer. He had appeared with Patrick Swayze in "Roadhouse." According to his obituary, he had been battling cancer since he was 1 year old.
-
I really like the movie Roadhouse. I have watched it many times through the years. Patrick Swayze is such a strong and healthy man, as was Michael Landon. Cancer is so horrible and can take over so swiftly. It makes me sick to my stomach.
-
The reports on Jeff Healey are misleading. I've read the same thing about how he's been battling cancer all his life but my understanding is that he had cancer as a baby - that's how he lost his eyesight at the age of 7 months - and then he was diagnosed with a completely different cancer when he was 38. He was 41 when he died last week. Very sad. He was an extraordinary musician.
Sad too about Patrick Swayze. Hopefully his is one of those rare cases of pancreatic cancer that was caught early.
-
I'm so sad. I just read that Patrick's cancer is back in his liver, which means it's just a matter of time. I just have to say one more time, CANCER SUCKS!
-
I didn't hear that it was back, but I'm not surprised. Pancreatic cancer is one of the hardests to cure. Sadly few survive this cancer.
-
Crap ... This saddens me too. Keep saying it Jenn, CANCER SUCKS!
-
I "grew up" watching his movies. My first date with my high school love was to Dirty Dancing. It's such sad news. He seems to be letting it rule his life tho - so that's awesome.
-
omgosh. If the source is reliable this is very sad. I LOVE Patrick Swayze. Too bad their family has no privacy in this difficult time. It's just one of those news stories that should be the responsibility of the individual to "break" the news if the person so wanted to.
-
My husband's aunt is battling pancreatic cancer right now--was diagnosed 8 months ago, doctor gave her 2 years to live. Stats say only 20% make it 2 years; only 1 to 3% make it to 5 years; but there is a gentleman at my church who had it in 1972 and he's still alive and doing well--so stats aren't always right. There is a huge surgery ( a whipple procedure) that can be done, but it is very complicated and only for the younger patients.
