The Respectfully Republican Conversation

Rock (see I remembered! LOL) I'm not one of those people, I have been posting here because I enjoy the discussion and the fact people are willing to talk about a subject, not gloat or be nasty. How often do you see me on the other thread. I am responding to some posts I read here today that was very dem bashing and the whole crisis is the fault of the dems and that is hard to swallow nor can it be true. Too many lawmakers are in office and they make the decisions not us little folk that means nothing.
IBCspouse, I was having trouble finding the article with the extremely high suicide rate because I am either finding stories on active military and the veteran articles are older articles and not reflecting what is acurately happening. Here is two articles I did find, http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/11/13/cbsnews_investigates/main3496471.shtml http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/21/cbsnews_investigates/main4032921.shtml
It really shows that the suicide rate among these men is raising and getting higher. The worse part of this is that my son is in the higher group that is likely to do this. It's just a sad fact of our society. No one ever paid attention to the transition of the soldier to civilian life because we were not at war and whats the big deal its just from one job to the next. But if you have lived the life you know there is a big difference from military life to civilian life. They do not do near enough to prepare these men and women to move on with thier lives and apply their military careers to civilian jobs. If you were an infintry man, I can see him on a job interview......so what did you do on your last job.....oh that's easy, kick in doors raid homes and kill people.....NEXT.......guess he doesn't get the job.
-
Oh, LuAnn, I don't think you are a disturber, I am commenting on the point that we don't seem to blame the dems as much as they blame the republicans and you won't see the venom here ... I was not referring to you .. but I don't think that you should feel that Republicans think that we are in this mess only because Democrats exist in the world ...
-
LuAnn, do the Armed Forces provide any sort of "transition training" for people who are finishing their military commitment and returning to civilian life? I'm thinking of the career counseling provided to many college students when they graduate. Seems like the military could make sure the soldiers they are "graduating" are ready to walk into civilian jobs.

HAPPY BI-PARTISAN THANKSGIVING!!!
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs! -
Sherri- I think you are referring to Christina Romer. Larry Kudlow calls her a secret supply sider (which would probably makes Anne Shirley unhappy-LOL) . She does lean center right......
Seems like a very good appointment and the news probably helped the market over the weekend.
-
My fellow Rep. sisters ... some of you are Bush fans and you know I am not ... but look at what the Yahoo news wrote about him...
-----------
We have "only one President at a time," Barack Obama said in his debut press conference as President-elect. Normally, that would be a safe assumption - but we're learning not to assume anything as the charcoal-dreary economic winter approaches. By mid-November, with the financial crisis growing worse by the day, it had become obvious that one President was no longer enough (at least not the President we had). So, in the days before Thanksgiving, Obama began to move - if not to take charge outright, then at least to preview what things will be like when he does take over in January. He became a more public presence, taking questions from the press three days in a row. He named his economic team. He promised an enormous stimulus package that would somehow create 2.5 million new jobs, and began to maneuver the new Congress toward having the bill ready for him to sign - in a dramatic ceremony, no doubt - as soon as he assumes office.
That we have slightly more than one President for the moment is mostly a consequence of the extraordinary economic times. Even if George Washington were the incumbent, the markets would want to know what John Adams was planning to do after his Inauguration. And yet this final humiliation seems particularly appropriate for George W. Bush. At the end of a presidency of stupefying ineptitude, he has become the lamest of all possible ducks. (See TIME's best pictures of Barack Obama.)
It is in the nature of mainstream journalism to attempt to be kind to Presidents when they are coming and going but to be fiercely skeptical in between. I've been feeling sorry for Bush lately, a feeling partly induced by recent fictional depictions of the President as an amiable lunkhead in Oliver Stone's W. and in Curtis Sittenfeld's terrific novel American Wife. There was a photo in the New York Times that seemed to sum up his current circumstance: Bush in Peru, dressed in an alpaca poncho, standing alone just after the photo op at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, with various Asian leaders departing the stage, none of them making eye contact with him. Bush has that forlorn what-the-hell-happened? expression on his face, the one that has marked his presidency at difficult times. You never want to see the President of the United States looking like that.
So I've been searching for valedictory encomiums. His position on immigration was admirable and courageous; he was right about the Dubai Ports deal and about free trade in general. He spoke well, in the abstract, about the importance of freedom. He is an impeccable classicist when it comes to baseball. And that just about does it for me. I'd add the bracing moment of Bush with the bullhorn in the ruins of the World Trade Center, but that was neutered in my memory by his ridiculous, preening appearance in a flight suit on the deck of the aircraft carrier beneath the "Mission Accomplished" sign. The flight-suit image is one of the two defining moments of the Bush failure. The other is the photo of Bush staring out the window of Air Force One, helplessly viewing the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina. This is a presidency that has wobbled between those two poles - overweening arrogance and paralytic incompetence.(President Bush in the Middle East.)
The latter has held sway these past few months as the economy has crumbled. It is too early to rate the performance of Bush's economic team, but we have more than enough evidence to say, definitively, that at a moment when there was a vast national need for reassurance, the President himself was a cipher. Yes, he's a lame duck with an Antarctic approval rating - but can you imagine Bill Clinton going so gently into the night? There are substantive gestures available to a President that do not involve the use of force or photo ops. For example, Bush could have boosted the public spirit - and the auto industry - by announcing that he was scrapping the entire federal automotive fleet, including the presidential limousine, and replacing it with hybrids made in Detroit. He could have jump-started - and he still could - the Obama plan by releasing funds for a green-jobs program to insulate public buildings. He could start funding the transit projects already approved by Congress.
In the end, though, it will not be the creative paralysis that defines Bush. It will be his intellectual laziness, at home and abroad. Bush never understood, or cared about, the delicate balance between freedom and regulation that was necessary to make markets work. He never understood, or cared about, the delicate balance between freedom and equity that was necessary to maintain the strong middle class required for both prosperity and democracy. He never considered the complexities of the cultures he was invading. He never understood that faith, unaccompanied by rigorous skepticism, is a recipe for myopia and foolishness. He is less than President now, and that is appropriate. He was never very much of one.

Hey Rocktobermom...I read that this morning and then remembered a favorite saying of mine,,,"opinions are like as*holes, we all have one"...history has not been written yet or as Condi Rice says, "it's too early to write history"!
-
I don't think we will really be able to comprehend Bush's presidency for at least 25 years......many of us will not live to see how this history is written.........I will say this 9 months after Bush took office and 3 months after he got his team together.......remember the election of 2000......we got hit on 9/11.........we were at the time in a recession...........I do believe that Bush has done an honorable job at keeping us safe.........now with respect to Iraq.........I think that Bush's intentions were good...........this world is a safer place without Insane and his two sons.......period.............trying to bring democracy to a nation I think is also good but when a country which is probably the birth place of mankind and has never been free I'm not sure it is doable......but again we just don't know.........we won't know for a long time..........Islam is really not a religion of freedom............traditions die hard............Shokk

Michael Medved was talking about his new book today, "The 10 Biggest Lies about America". Number 7 is the left wing mantra that America is an Imperialist nation, and we went to Iraq for the oil. Then Michael said if you want to prove this is a total lie, mention this word: "CANADA! If we were imperalists, wouldn't it be a lot easy for us to just take over Canada? After all, they do not have much in terms of defense, they are rich in oil and other resources and they have some pretty great hockey players! ( well I guess we have imported a lot of the hockey players LOL). So if Bush went to war for oil, wouldn't it be a lot easier if he just invaded Canada!" LOL!
This book sounds like a great Christmas gift for any libs in the family.
-
Hey Vivre we have our own FREAKING oil...........$$.......$$$$.........Shokk
-
Yes, and we need to drill!!! I am glad that the new Democratic Senator in Alaska is pro-drilling!
----------
You know, Saddam was bad but at least there weren't bombs going off all over Iraq. The nations over there seem so, hate to say it, but so "uncivilized"!! They seem to need tribal leaders and dictators to FORCE them to keep the peace. I don't think Saudi Arabia or Kuwait have the right idea either with the way they treat women and don't allow for individuals to even drink alcohol but at least, again, bombs aren't killing masses of people and they have houses and roads!! It would seem to me that nations like those are the ones that are closer to becoming more democratic ... but Iran, Iraq? It would take 1,000,000 years not 100.
-
Well Tuesday will be a big day here in GA and for the country. the last rep senator is battling it out for the last seat. if dem jim martin beats him the senate has their 60.
the commercials are getting vicious so many accusations and half truths coming from both sides. everyday in my mail box i'll have about 3 mailings per candidate. getting UGLY!

LuAnn, why do you say that? Have you noticed or has he mentioned anything in his emails or over the phone about suicide? Have you heard it in his voice? If so, can you report this to someone before he comes home, or would that mess up his record? Is he staying in the service? I know you are extremely worried about your son and I don't blame you. I'm glad you've got your ears and eyes open.

I think the article from Yahoo or where ever is horrible! I'm really tired of the Bush bashing. I'm tired of hearing about Katrina and how badly he handled that! I'm tired of hearing how he lied to us about why we went into war. If he lied then most of the world believed his lies. And Congress too. Dems too that voted for the war. I'm just plain sick and tired of it. Obama gets by with all kinds of crap and Bush gets bashed. There are only a few of us who defend him and I am defending him. I don't think he lied. I don't think he screwed up when Katrina hit. I don't think it went into Iraq for their darned oil. I don't think he went after Hussein because of an attempt on Bush Seniors life. I think Bush is a good man. Hussein didn't believe Bush when Bush told him I'M COMING! Saddam had gotten by with not letting the inspectors inspect as he promised he would and finally Bush said let's go. Bush thought there was WMDs over there and so did everyone else. After reading that Yahoo crap I'm angry as hell! CUSSING!
It's fine and dandy for our president to have BJs in the Oval office cuz it isn't sex? Or if it is sex it's still fine! GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! Where are our morals? Why aren't we holding our officials accountable about the way they act? If it were a repub prez who had multiple BJs in the oral..oops..oval office it WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE! And Clinton lied. He told a downright lie! And got caught!
Read what the 9/11 commission had to say PLEASE!
We have a voluntary military. In the Viet Nam era we did not. Men were sent to Viet Nam after being drafted. Then what kind of thanks did they get when they came back....spit upon! name calling! Kerry was one of the worst accusing our men while still at war of killing babies, etc. War is ugly! And I think Bush cares about our young men and women in the military.
Remember when 9/11 happened? We were MAD! Men and women joined the military because they were mad that someone would attack our country. They were ready to fight! Remember this picture where President Bush comforts a little girl after 9/11?
Remember this picture where Clinton pointed his finger right in MY FACE and lied..oh, but that's okay?
I wonder how many Clinton lies there are. I remember when he and Hillary were leaving the WH..I thought they'd NEVER leave. And they sure as heck didn't do GW any favors. GW is keeping Obama informed about EVERYTHING.
-
I'm sure most of you have see this. Watch it again if you want. Make sure you watch it until the end. Make comments..discuss this young man's attitude and beliefs.
-
What it shows me, sadly, is how easy it is for politicians to manipulate the young into throwing their lives away for worthless causes. Lots of places in the world could use the help of the US military. Just why do you think we went into Iraq and nots, say, Somalia? Do you really think it had anything to do with helping the Iraq people? Or do you think maybe, just maybe, oil had something to do with it?
-
Shirley
I agree with you completely. Why does everyone just accept what Bill Clinton did as being PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S.??, and poor G.W. Bush can't do ANYTHING right? I think he handled the Sept. 11th situation very well. He was obviously very upset, but he didn't want to scare the children. But, he can't do anything right. I think history will prove that G.W. was one of this country's best presidents. No, he's not perfect... But, he didn't get a B.J. in the oval office and then LIE about it to the Americans.
It really makes me ANGRY!!
I liked that video, too. Wonder what B.O. thinks about it?
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving...
Harley
-
Hey, Harley. Yes we had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm a bit tired TO SAY THE LEAST. It's once again quiet around here. LOL Two grandkids can liven up a house!
The young man in that video did this on his own..I believe he and his uncle put this together. McCain had nothing to do with it.
I'm gonna call you..maybe tomorrow if I don't forget. It's too late now. You're probably sleeping.
Shirley
-
Well my opinion is that Clinton got a blow job from an intern (I could be wrong about that because I don't watch TV and don't live in the US). Again I don't know but it doesn't seem like she was forced and she kept the skirt for evidence and talked about it. Well OK, this is hardly good behaviour but no one died.
So far as we know Bush has kept his pecker in his pants, but thousands upon thousounds are dead.
I and many others wish he had just had a blow job instead. -
Shirley...you know where I stand with it...HISTORY HAS NOT BEEN WRITTEN YET! And if it had anything to do with oil (for all you, he just wants the oil people) don't you think by now we would have the damn oil?
-
-
Paulette,
You bring up a good point. We went to war with Iraq because of their oil and then we stole it, or and then we capped it because we like expensive oil. It's always good to cut off oil supply from a producing nation. No? Not for those two reasons? Hmmm, but everyone knows we invaded Iraq because of their oil. So what did we do with it?
I've been hearing this for years, but no one goes on to say what our goal was. Steal it, cap it, force them to sell it to us? Stop them from selling it? Maybe this was a conspiracy between us and Canada to help Canadian oil become more in demand. Ok, it's Canada's fault. Let's blame Canada.
-
Rosemary, I just get so tired of hearing about "the war" and "oil" and "the economy"...the truth is, life is cyclical PERIOD! War has been existence since the beginning of time and will still be happening somewhere when we are no longer here, the economy is cyclical, always has been, always will be and like I said, if GW wanted their damn oil, we would have it by now.
It's too bad there isn't some island like Australia where all the wah wahs (<---------------------) could be sent to (like the British did to criminals) and they could live in their perfect little world they create on their own and not be bothered by the real world. I can guarentee you within a short time they would be fighting and warring amongst themselves, it is human nature.
-
So Paulette, Bush is responsible for nothing. The fact that our economy has imploded and Bush sent so many to their deaths is just the way it goes . . . its the way of the world. . . . and also it was God's will, not the fault of GWB. Righto.
-
I don't think we went for oil ... I don't think he lied either ... I, too, think he relied on bad intell. But when Saddam saw that Bush was serious, he cried Uncle, and the US said, too late and went in anyway even the UN inspectors said, "he is going to let us in." ... Who is at fault there? I don't know, Bush? Cheney? A General hungry for war pushing Bush to go in? I don't know....What I do believe is that we could have pulled out long ago ... I am not politically correct in this but I don't care about them over there ... our boys need to come home and those people don't want us, don't want to change and if there are, then maybe the ones who want to leave can be helped to find a new home in a new country. Too bad the Arab nations aren't trying to help them integrate into peaceful areas.
-
I just want to say "welcome back everyone!"
It sure has been quiet here for the past few days.
Blaest... your back! Wondered were you were lurking these days, hadnt heard from you in a very long time. LOL I am sure I will get chastised for what I am about to say but, I've gotten use to causing an "uproar" LOL- anyway......"Welcome back"
-
I guess there are others who are as worried about the fact that we will soon have a president that we know nothing about. Why won't the guy just produce his birth certificate if he has nothing to hide? I know, he has some phoney registration of birth. I got one of these from the hospital when my sons were born. I took it with me to get my son a passport. I was told, this is not a legal document. I had to go back for the real birth certificate. How did Obama get into Pakistan without a US passport? Where are his loyalties? This man has never accomplished a thing except deception. I just cannot shake this sinking feeling that our next president is the quintessential snake oil salesman. I am not alone. Why can't he just produce a birth certificate, or a passport, or even a social security card? Check out what this PUMA has to say:

Paulette,
I think they have such a place that you describe. It's called San Francisco. They can run amuck there and no one seems to care. Homeless live in doorways very happily. Illegal aliens with criminal records get to stay. Don't take a street elevator to a subway. You'll never forget that experience. The smell will knock you over, but all the parents with carriages has to take them, and no one does anything about it. It's all good there. The far left can't clean up that city, but they want to run our country. What fun.

Okay-- I have caused any controversy in about........an hour LOL so here we go:
Last night I was watching the National Geographic channel - I have never watched it before- but it had something on that intrigued me "Hitler and the Occult".......Here is the WIERD part, my hubby and I are watching it and I swear it sounded JUST like what we have been through and are going through with Obama!
Germany was suffering economically, they wanted "change" and Hitler was new on the scene, promising "change" he was backed by powerful money people. as soon as he was elected, the economy began to turn around, people started with the "hi ho hitler"..............and then....BAMB--he began IMPLEMENTING his SOCIALISTIC ways with the military on his side!!!!!!!
