i remember

Squigman and the Sea Monsters, HR Puffinstuff, real playgrounds at the school, recess, the Beatles, the Monkees, Land of the Lost, and my mother's favorite song, What's New Pussycat......Also Speed Racer, cassette tapes, my first romance novel, Sweet Savage Love by Rosemary Rogers, which I still have (LOL)......
-
pet rocks
-
How about Captain Video, Space Cadets and the Cisco Kid? Sky King and for Cincinnati gals, Uncle Al.
Jumping rope was so much fun.....And going to see a movie was the only way to get into air conditioning. Theater popcorn had BUTTER on it....
Sandy
-
mzmiller, YES....I had a crush on Ricky Nelson....then met him in my 20's (and got a good kiss from him....we won't go there
), but it was sad as it was shortly after his Dad, Ozzie, died. He was with the "Stone Canyon Band"...early 70's.Going to the movie theater (I grew up in Hawaii and someone started a theater in an old quonset hut...looked like a regular theater inside, but was cheaper than in town)...and he only charged .25 and would give us free tix for the next show! And getting all the candy you wanted for about .25 in the movie theater, also. I think the theaters in town were .60, and this was around 1959-1962.
Anyone remember the cardboard "cameras" that included special paper that would "develop" when exposed to sunlight...really took rudimentary pictures...and the set was probably less than a dollar...but mostly we took "pictures" of leaves with them...LOL. But what fun that was! In the 50's.
-
Oh, yes, I remember Thethile the theathick theatherpent. (I remember him with the lisp!)
My first camera was a Poloroid that took grainy color pictures. The beginning of instant gratification.
Stylewise, I remember rolling my sensible knee-length skirts up to make them a mini-skirt.
And how can forgot those annoyingly perfect Brady kids? Marsha, Marsha, Marsha...
-
shag carpet and can you believe the beach boys are still going strong
-
Yes Yellow Rose - we cruised Woodward Avenue in the northern suburbs of Detroit. In fact they celebrate it now with one of the biggest car get togethers called The Dream Cruise - people come from all over the US!
-
If I wore a kilt now, it would definitely be wider than it was long!!!
Penny candy! My grandparents owned a small grocery store, with (it seemed to me) the biggest candy counter in the world! No wonder why I was a chub!
Pink and black.
-
So, since this is the baby boomer thread, I'm not really "dating" myself but ... how about songs where you could actually hear the words? For ex., The Battle of New Orleans, Purple People Eater?
-
itsy, bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot, bikini
-
Abbott and Costello, Shirley Temple and I use to buy a soda pop at my grandfather's store for $10.....and a penny candy cost a penny
Those were the days.
-
Ok, I always thought that I was a boomer. Just read something about the term "Generation Jones" and found out that I'm actually a Joneser.
The term has been around since the late 80's. Maybe I missed it because we lived overseas at the time. Any other Jonesers out there??? Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Barack Obama are all Generation Jones. How about you?
-
yellowrose, I had to look that up! So, anyone born between 1954-1965 is from "Generation Jones". I had never heard that before, so am glad to learn that. Well, I was born in 1950...so am still officially a "baby boomer"!
-
some good stuff here ladies...anyone remember "Masteroiece Theater"?
-
ummm.... meant Masterpiece
-
We only got 2 channels, and one of them was not Masterpiece Theater. Or American Bandstand! Drat.
How about Bosco? "I love Bosco, it's the drink for me..."!
And, "sick" jokes? Like, "Mommy, mommy, why do I keep running around in circles?"
"Shut up or I'll nail your other foot to the floor!"
Or, "I hate to eat and run, but I think I'm going to be sick!"
-
Anyone remember Winky Dink televsion program. You wrote off for a magic screen to put over the tv screen and find the secret message at the end of the program by connecting dots or something like that.
I also loved the Loretta Young TV program. Every week she came sweeping into the living room stage is the most elegant, shiny gowns. I thought she was the most elegant thing I had ever seen. Still wish I looked like her!
-
Generation Jones? Never heard of it- was born in 1960- right in the middle. Where does term come from? Masterpiece was FAVORITE,
-
I never heard of Generation Jones. The timing sounds like the years that overlap the younger children of WWII vets and the older children of Korean vets. My elementary school class was about half and half. Since my parents were of the older generation, and we lived with stories of how lucky we were since our parents grew up during the Great Depression, my experience was definitely more baby boomer.
I remember where I was, and what I was doing when I found out that President Kennedy had been shot. Most people my age and older do too, but people a couple of years younger not so much...
-
Generation Jones, coined in the eighies by Jonathan Pontell (I don't really know anything about him other than he has his own website and does public speaking) Here's what wikipedia has to say. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Jones I think that I might see if there are any books out there on the topic, just for curiosity's sake.
Someone mentioned fizzies. My siblings and I loved putting them in our mouths and taking a mouthful of water, then seeing who could tough it out the longest! Really kind of gross!
-
Got money for taking back soda bottles 5cent each was alot then, Living on Air Force base got alot.
-
Who remembers cole machines where you got a "glass" bottle of soda and they had a bottle opener built in??? Somehow Coke tasted better then.
-
I remember those vending machines with the glass bottles....you opened the door and pulled out the one you wanted...only one would release with the money (like 10 cents?). We also had a vending machine at the store that only was 5 cents for a cup of soda...where the cup would drop down and then the syrup and carbonated soda would come out separately, into the cup, and you could choose it with or without ice.
-
Ironing hair to make it straight? Hot pants (shorts really) my favorite pr were hot pink.
-
Platform shoes.... I had a pair of blue suede ones.... to think of it now is frightening, but back then (early 70's) I was one "happenin" chick....or so I thought....lol
-
I actually answered an ad (would prob not be allowed nowadays) that said "Look good in hot pants?"--and was hired--for Hertz and we DID have to wear hot pants as part of the uniform--they were bright yellow. Back in early 70's--boy what I wouldn't give to have nice legs again. Now they would want me totally covered up...LOL.
EWB...those were the days, weren't they!
-
Anyone "set their hair" on OJ cans????
-
How about those "spit curls"--big curl flat against your face--in front of your ears? Like JoAnn Worley from "Laugh In" days!
-
wahine- my oh my did we look fine, hot pants, spit curls and Maxi Coats--remember those? Guess it was to keep those lovely legs warm
those certainly were the days
