Gas price survey

Here's some sobering financial/gasoline news for you:
Here in NY, our Gov Patterson has said that, due to the huge deficit that will engulf us as a result of the Wall Street mess, higher gasoline taxes are around the corner. I swear, I don't think I'll be able to afford to live in this state too much longer...

Captain Cook, Hawaii $3.49 (what do I win?)
-
I was trying to eat a little healthier, but the fresh food it off the map, and it is getting harder and harder to manage ....Even tide is $5.00 or more at a time. The cheap stuff won't get my DH work clothes clean.
I get sick everytime I start to shop.

Silicon Valley CA--price of gas is at $2.55. Near Santa Cruz (on the central coast) CA--price of gas is $2.39--as for groceries--stopped buying cereal and bread because the cost went out of sight! Loaf of bread is almost $5. and a box of cereal "on special" is also almost $5.
Been buying my bread at Trader Joes for $3+, and we're eating more fruits and veges grown locally and forget cereal for breakfast--yogurt, eggs, pancakes (from scratch) are a better buy. I wonder when groceries will go down? Do we have to stop eating? Or buy less?

Here's info from north of the border (southern Ontario): My local service station is selling gas at 83.4 cents/litre, which equals about $3/gallon. Sounds like a lot, esp. for an oil-producing country, but there are both fed and provincial taxes added on, which help pay for stuff like universal healthcare -- so I'm not complaining!
Cheers,
Linda

cheapest I saw today when I went out was $2.11 for the cheapest grade - this is in Northern California - north of Sacramento.
-
Grace, bread at $5.00 a loaf OMG! I really would have a stroke.
I can remember people talking about that when I was a child growing up.
Times they are a changing.
-
Chicago area - I saw gas for $2.19/gallon and if you got a car wash it was $1.99/gallon. We are definitely having a difficult time making ends meet despite the gas price going down.

ALways higher here! Stupid...
-
About .81/litre which is a lot more expensive than in the US, but a lot cheaper than it was. I don't care I am cutting down on my driving.

My dh and I just drove from Alabama to Minnesota and back in the past 10 days. The cheapest gas was $1.64/gal, and I think that was in southern KY or extreme northern TN. The most expensive gas we saw was right here in AL, for around $2.25 to $2.30/gal. Heck, we've had the most expensive gas ever since Hurricane Ike hit Texas. OTOH, there are a few stations here in AL with gas around $1.99.
Gas in MN (outside the Twin Cities) was somewhere around $1.85/gal plus or minus a few cents for "regular".... and also for mid-grade. That was the strangest thing. At many stations in MN, IA, and MO, the lowest-octane gas (87 octane) and the mid-grade (89 octane) were exactly the same price.
Traditionally, at least in the midwest and south, the 3 main grades of gas have always been priced 10 cents apart (e.g., $1.75, $1.85, and $1.95). That's no longer true. Now, here in the southeast, there can be as much as 20 cents difference from the lowest-octane gas to the mid-grade, and the price posted on the signs is just a "teaser" price. (I'm complaining because my car needs mid-grade to run more smoothly and get better mileage.) OTOH, there's the oddity of the level pricing for different fuel grades in the upper midwest.
And, on our northbound trip last week, we saw that gas prices in southern and western Wisconsin were over $2.00/gal, considerably higher than right across the border in MN.
So there is a lot of variation, even in the same region.

I paid 1.79 in southwestern VA yesterday.
-
1.96 today here in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of MIchigan
-
Otter, thanks for all the information. That was a wide range for sure.
I love seeing a one in front of any price. I just wonder when it will go up again.
-
Well in Oregon it ranges from about $1.80 to 2,40 a gallon. It seems to cost more in the areas closest to Portland and less in outlying areas. I do think this will be short-lived. I am commuting on an electric bike (what fun!) and my hubby has a 250 cc scooter. We are trying to do our part for the environment!

$1.67 today in Lee's Summit, Mo.
-
I'm upset! It's still about $2.30 in upstate NY
-
Cincinnati OH is down to $1.50 now.
-
I saw gas at one of the stations for just under $2 a gallon today - $1.99 at one and $2.11 at the next station - I've been hoping it would go below $2 .. would love to see $1.50!! doubt we'll get that with all the extra taxes and additives we pay for in California.
-
MKE ~ Where do you live?
WOW! $1.50
-
I paid $1.87 last night...near Annapolis, MD.
-
Mary Lou, I live in Toronto. I know it seems like a shocking price but by the time you convert the litres and dollars it isn't quite so bad.
-
Thanks MKE...
-
Last time I filled up it was $1.99. May be lower now----------Central Louisiana
-
It has hit $1.77 just about a mile from my house!
-
GRR! Still $2.25 in NY!
-
It was $1.97 on the north end of the Garden State Parkway (Montvale, New Jersey) this morning.
