You all have to admit that to date Obama is doing a great job, seeking conciliation where none before him have ever tread. Maybe Mccain will get some large role in the Obama administration. After after he was called "that one" by Mccain. Obama is a big man.
-
Remaining CAUTIOUSLY optimistic here. There is an old saying "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer" One thing I have ALWAYS said about Obama---He "ain't no dummy".
-
Shirley, If you think Katrina was a head scratcher this was published in our local paper in the Sound Off section:
" My TV works fine but I hear the Bush/Cheney administration made a rule to prevent it from getting a signal next year. I think this is in retaliation for voting for Obama, but maybe he can fix it before it"s too late. I sure hope so because I can't afford a new TV." A MAD AS HELL SENIOR.
-
Well I see they both brought their seconds. Pistols or swords?
-
Listening to the radio today one announcer was quite peeved about the lack of women appointees so far ... so much for sexual equality!! And it was brought out that Michelle ma belle was ushered right back off stage after her appearance on election night ... instead of sitting on stage or in front to hear and see her husband's acceptance speech.
-
one announcer was quite peeved about the lack of women appointees
Its not about Obama being politically expedient in appointing people to the post, he has said over and over that he will appoint the BEST people available. If that is a man so be it. If it is a woman, like Hillary as Secretary of State. So Be it. So long as its not Sarah Palin. Then we would know for a fact he is choosing political expediency over appointing the best people.
-
Until women stop being "catty" and judgemental, and jealous, we will NEVER have equality. All these women that hate Sara Palin, giving reasons like "she's so dumb" and "she is a b*^#h" is based on LIES and envy.
If she is so dumb how has she been able to be the mayor then be the governor? Are the people who elected her dumb too? If so then I guess people who elected BO are DUMB TOO!!!!!
Are they basing it off the PROVEN lies about africa? The 2 people that were actually in the room doing the "vetting" said this never happened : "Sen. John McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, went ON THE RECORD last night to give his take on Gov. Palin during the White House race and the nasty attacks on her by anonymous campaign staffers:" Here is the interview http://gretawire.foxnews.com/category/on-the-record/
And how can they determine she is such a "b*&#h" by hearing her on tv? (which I doubt they listened)
We women have GOT to get over this jealousy, name calling thing or there will always be sex discrimination!
-
You raise a valid point moodyk13.
-
Whether Palin is truly dumb or not to me is not really relevant. She certainly treated the public like they were dumb. Her trying to explain how she had foreign policy experience because of the proximity of russia to Alaska was ludicrous. If she were intellectually honest, she simply would have admitted she had no such experience but that she was a quick learner, that shehad no doubt she would be able to get along with foreign leaders based on her people skills, etc. She just has deserved all the criticism she has gotten from all sides.
-
Okay, I'll give you this one: "she simply would have admitted she had no such experience but that she was a quick learner"
Now lets take a look:
Obama claimed he and Bill Ayers only served on a board together.
In 1995, Ayers helped Obama, then a junior lawyer at a minor law firm, get appointed chairman of the multi-million dollar Chicago Annenberg Challenge grant. In the fall of that same year, Ayers and his wife, Weatherwoman Bernardine Dohrn, helped blaze Obama's path to political power with a fundraiser in their Chicago home.
Why not just admit this?
Obama told his audience that the Kennedys -- Jack and Bobby -- decided to do an airlift. They would bring some young Africans over so that they could be educated and learn all about America. His grandfather heard that call and sent his son, Barack Obama, Sr., to America.
The problem with that scenario is that, having been born in August 1961, the future senator was not conceived until sometime in November 1960. So, if his African grandfather heard words that "sent a shout across oceans," inspiring him to send his goat-herder son to America, it was not Democrat Jack Kennedy he heard, or his brother Bobby, it was Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Addressing civil rights activists in Selma, Ala., a year ago, Sen. Barack Obama traced his "very existence" to the generosity of the Kennedy family, which he said paid for his Kenyan father to travel to America on a student scholarship and thus meet his Kansan mother.
Contrary to Obama's claims in speeches in January at American University and in Selma last year, the Kennedy family did not provide the funding for a September 1959 airlift of 81 Kenyan students to the United States that included Obama's father. Obama spokesman Bill Burton acknowledged yesterday that the senator from Illinois had erred in crediting the Kennedy family with a role in his father's arrival in the United States.
As another example, consider Obama's stirring tale for the Selma audience about how he had been conceived by his parents, Barack Obama Sr. and Ann Dunham, because they had been inspired by the fervor following the "Bloody Sunday" voting rights demonstration that was commemorated March 4. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So don't tell me I don't have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Don't tell me I'm not coming home to Selma, Alabama"
Obama was born in 1961, and the Selma march occurred four years later, in 1965. The New York Times reported that when the senator was asked about the discrepancy later that day, he clarified: "I meant the whole civil rights movement."
In his memoir, Obama writes of one of the watershed moments of his racial awareness -- time and again in remarkable detail. It is a story about a Life magazine article that influenced him. The report was about a black man who tried to bleach his skin white. When Obama was told no such article could be found in Life, he says "it might have been Ebony."
Yet no such photo exists, according to historians at the magazine. No such photos, no such article. When asked about the discrepancy, Obama said in a recent interview, "It might have been an Ebony or it might have been ... who knows what it was?" (At the request of the Tribune, archivists at Ebony searched their catalogue of past articles, none of which matched what Obama recalled.)
"I've always been a Christian," the Illinois Democrat Obama responded. "I have never practiced [Islam]."
In his autobiography, "Dreams From My Father," Obama mentions studying the Quran. He was enrolled in two Jakarta schools as a Muslim. His teacher Tine Hahiyary said that she remembered that he had studied "mengaji" (recitation of the Quran)." Classmate Rony Amiris described Obama as being a very devout Muslim, saying, "Barry was previously quite religious in Islam." Another classmate, Emirsyah Satar, now the CEO of Garuda Indonesia, was quoted as saying, "He (Obama) was often in the prayer room wearing a 'sarong.'" (See Obama's Education.)
But that's not what Obama's sister says -- in an interview with the New York Times, published on April 30th, Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama's younger half sister, told the Times, "My whole family was Muslim, and most of the people I knew were Muslim." (Alternate link)
I assume Maya thinks of her brother, Obama, as a member of her family?
And, the Jerusalem Post reports that Barack Obama's half brother Malik said, if elected, his brother will be a good president for the Jewish people, despite his Muslim background.
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed," the Democratic presidential candidate said in a speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering Richmond art studio for a fundraiser.
The death toll was 12.
During his 12 years in politics, Obama has received nearly three times more campaign cash from indicted businessman, Tony Rezko and his associates, than he has publicly acknowledged, the Chicago Sun-Times has found.
Seven months ago, Obama told the Sun-Times his "best estimate" was that Rezko raised "between $50,000 and $60,000" during Obama's political career.
However, Obama has collected at least $168,308 from Rezko and his circle. Additionally, Obama also has taken in an unknown amount of money from people who attended fund-raising events hosted by Rezko since the mid-1990s.
1)Obama also spoke about his typical white uncle, who was part of the American brigade that helped to liberate Auschwitz. He said the family legend is that, upon returning from war, his uncle spent six months in an attic.
Obama has no uncles. His mother Anna was an only child, and Obama Sr. had two sisters.
2) "My grandfather signed up for a war the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed, fought in Patton's army. He saw the dead and dying across the fields of Europe; he heard the stories of fellow troops who first entered Auschwitz and Treblinka. He fought in the name of a larger freedom, part of that arsenal of democracy that triumphed over evil, and he did not fight in vain."
Obama's grandfather enlisted on June 18, 1942.
In his autobiography, "Dreams of My Father," Obama states his grandfather never engaged in combat. "Gramps returned from the war never having seen real combat, and the family moved to California, where he enrolled at Berkeley under the GI bill."
I would keep going, but I have to go to chemo now.
-
Oh, PLEASE GO ON, Moody. "I would keep going, but I have to go to chemo now." Is that your quote or Obama's from one of his books?
Of course no one thinks Obama is dumb...he just misspeaks. Actually, I think Biden taught Obama.
Shirley
-
Shirley,
Well not exactly, Obama doesn't misspeak, he downright lies. Looks you in the eye, and lets it rip. Liars can't remember their last lie. It can be a problem for them. So we get many stories of whom he knows and when he knew them and what all happened, and then the story changes again. The money that Rezko donated turned out to be much more then the amount as it was first reported. Then we were told it was going to be donated to charity. Which charity was that, I wonder?
-
I can't honestly say whether Obama lied or not about anything material, but I do know that Bush lied about the reason for going to war, and that beats all in my book.
-
The report was about a black man who tried to bleach his skin white
I'm about Obama's age and I remember this also, just not all the details, something along the lines of the book Black like Me, about a caucasion who through some sort of medical treatment, turned his skin color very black. Of course that's the opposite of trying to bleach your skin white, but Michael Jackson did it somehow. Anyway, even if it didn't happen, what is the big deal about a small white lie meant to convey a picture or image.
-
moody, don't feed the troll ....
-
Okay lets say Bush INTENTIONALLY lied just to go to war in Iraq (BTW- Bush was relying on CIA intelligence reports) But again, lets say Bush was knowingly lying.......congress "fell" for it and look where it got us?!?!?!?!?!
So with that same theory, people who follow a liar cause destruction of MANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and this post is worth getting in trouble for- it is my most brilliant yet!)
-
I know Roctobermom its like this alternate personality takes over and feeds against my will! Im working on it though, I SWEAR I am..........maybe there is a pill I can take "Anti-Troll" pill or something.
-
SherriG my doc and I decided to hold off this dose of Herceptin this time and see if it is the cause of my "rapid progression of bone degenration" . Had bone scan in march and again 2 weeks ago and my thoracic and cervical spine went from gray to black! My hip, pelvic, and knee joints now have joined my spine all black! But since it is even they are sure it isnt cancer so that is good.
(I know Herceptin isn't a "chemo" drug, that is just what my dr office calls any infusion)
-
Moody,
I have to say it was a pretty good post. Yep, definitely worth it. We could take it a couple of steps further. Why didn't congress to their own homework? Voting for a war I would hope would be taken quite seriously, and doing all their own due diligence before voting would be the order of the day. So I assume they did it, and was in total agreement. So who's war was it?
-
Now where was I ......Oh yeah "Obama Lies"
Obama's first general election ad said that Obama "passed laws" that "extended healthcare for wounded troops who'd been neglected," with a citation at the bottom to only one Senate bill: The 2008 Defense Authorization Bill, which passed the Senate by a 91-3 vote.
Six Senators did not vote-including Obama. Nor is there evidence that he contributed to its passage in any material way. So, his claim to have "passed laws" amounts to citing a bill that was largely unopposed, that he didn't vote for, and whose passage he didn't impact. Even his hometown Chicago Tribune caught this false claim.
One of Obama's standard lines: his claim of "twenty years of public service." As pundit Michael Medved has pointed out, the numbers don't add up.
Three years in the US Senate, plus seven years in the Illinois State Senate, throw in his three years as a "community organizer" (whatever that means, let's count it as public service), that still adds up to just thirteen.
Obama spoke of "his" efforts to protect Israel from Iran: "Just this past week, we passed out of the US Senate Banking Committee - which is my committee - a bill to call for divestment from Iran as way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon."
Even CNN noted, Obama is not even on that committee.
April 14th -- Obama has pledged to end the "influence of lobbyists" but that doesn't keep him from fundraising at the offices of one of the most notoriously corrupt lobbyists in years.
Newsday reported that Obama took about $125,000 from Greenberg Traurig employees at their Miami offices last October. The firm made headlines when its biggest lobbyist, Jack Abramoff, admitted to several counts of corruption and was sentenced to prison.
Obama told the Iowan's that he PASSED nuclear legislation, "just last year (2007)."
Obama LIED, his nuclear legislation bill NEVER PASSED!!! Obama in his 3+ years in the US Senate has sponsored ONLY TWO pieces of legislation that have become law:
A bill to promote democracy in the Democratic Republic of Congo
A bill to name a post officeObama claimed to have passed laws that extended healthcare for wounded troops who'd been neglected, citing Public Law 110-181 1/28/08
Public Law 110-181 was the 2008 defense authorization bill. It passed the Senate by 91 to 3 in January, with six Senators not voting. Among those six absentees was Barack Obama. So he cites a bill he didn't even vote for.
Earlier this year, three-fourths of the Senate voted in favor of the Kyl-Lieberman Amendment, designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Obama voted against it claiming that the resolution contained language about military action.
Joe Lieberman, the bill's author, said bluntly, "It has none of that."
Obama was questioned regarding the comment about small town Americans clinging to guns and religion, he defended himself by claiming that the notion of elitist is absurd because of his poor upbringing.
Obama attended Punahou School, a fancy private school that today costs $15,000 per year.
In a speech before the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, Obama said the military option is "on the table" for dealing with Iran's nuclear program in stark contrast to his earlier statements.
During a debate last summer, he said he would be willing to meet with Iranian leaders and other American adversaries "without preconditions" .Now, he says, "As president of the United States, I would be willing to lead tough and principled diplomacy with the appropriate Iranian leaders at a time and place of my choosing, if and only if it can advance the interest of the United States. (hmm - precondition)

The truth be told, I was appalled that the best we could do was McCain .. as a party ... And then I saw the best "they" could do was Obama ... a hero or a liar? I don't think our main issue is national security, I think the economy is the issue at hand and I wish a business man type had been available.!!
Well, I hope that since the Liar won that he keeps trying to put out a good face and do like Bill Liar Clinton and get our economy going.
I am CONVINCED that Bill was a liar, would not want to be friends, marry or date him but he did give us some good years ...... Hopefully, Obama can do the same instead of trying to just get re-elected.
-
The bill that Obama refers to as his reach across the Isle, tuff on terrorism is the Lugar-Obama Anti-proliferation bill. Obama and his stogies always refer to it as his landmark anti nuclear proliferation bill. The problem is the nuclear proliferation bill is the Nunn-Lugar bill, the lugar Obama bill was an anti conventional small arms bill. That worked out real well, every thug in the world buys rpg's, ak 47's and shoulder fired anti aircraft weapons by the boat load.
The Nunn Lugar bill was Lugar's big splash, so he recycles it every few years with dem co-writer
-
man you all write too much!!!! Who do I blame the dems or the repubs for this medicine that just makes me sleep on the drop of a dime? I keep sleeping, falling into major naps and can't get crap accomplished let alone read 4 pages of stuff. i"d be asleep by the end of page 1! LOL LOL
I just want to know who to blam for tis fatigue!!!!!
-
I don't think anyone but McCain really wanted to run. It's very hard to elect the same party again when the sitting President isn't getting good marks with the public. If Obama falls on his face these next 4 years then we'll see a battle royal again, if not, who will really want to run against him?
-
LuAnn,
I wish there was something to do for fatigue. I even tried juicing. My vision got better, but to sleep I would go except in the middle of the night. Then I can be wide awake. Sorry.
-
Thanks Moody, now we no longer need to ask the question anymore about "What has Obama actually accomplished?" because now we know that he got the Post Office in Tiffin Ohio named after the late congressman Paul Gillmor.
I sure hope that he is more effective as President than he has been as Senator, becasue the nation can't afford a vacuum at the top for the next 4 years!
-
Sherri...half the money from the first bailout?
-
Well now this is interesting...I hope BO takes DHS seriously because it looks like we may have a problem...
Al-Qaida No. 2 insults Obama with racial epithet
By MAAMOUN YOUSSEF and LEE KEATH, Associated Press Writers Maamoun Youssef And Lee Keath, Associated Press Writers - 19 mins ago Play Video AP - Raw video: al-Qaida-linked militants hijack U.S. trucks Reuters - President-elect Barack Obama smiles during a meeting in Obama's transition office in Chicago, November ...
CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama in a message posted Wednesday, describing the president-elect in demeaning terms that imply he does the bidding of whites.
The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama does not represent a change in U.S. policies. Ayman al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama is "the direct opposite of honorable black Americans" like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.
In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect - along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice - "house negroes."
Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term "abeed al-beit," which literally translates as "house slaves." But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as "house negroes."
The message also includes old footage of speeches by Malcolm X in which he explains the term, saying black slaves who worked in their white masters' house were more servile than those who worked in the fields. Malcolm X used the term to criticize black leaders he accused of not standing up to whites.
The 11-minute 23-second video features the audio message by al-Zawahri, who appears only in a still image, along with other images, including one of Obama wearing a Jewish skullcap as he meets with Jewish leaders. In his speech, al-Zawahri refers to a Nov. 5 U.S. airstrike attack in Afghanistan, meaning the video was made after that date.
Al-Zawahri said Obama's election has not changed American policies he said are aimed at oppressing Muslims and others.
"America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always," the deputy of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden said.
He said Obama's plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.
"Be aware that the dogs of Afghanistan have found the flesh of your soldiers to be delicious, so send thousands after thousands to them," he said.
Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was "facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognize and pretend not to see."
He said Obama's victory showed Americans acknowledged that President George W. Bush's policies were a failure and that the result was an "admission of defeat in Iraq."
But Obama's professions of support for Israel during the election campaign "confirmed to the Ummah (Islamic world) that you have chosen a stance of hostility to Islam and Muslims," al-Zawahri said.

I watched the car makers yesterday at the Senate hearing. The 3 of them pretty much blamed the economy on their need for money, not themselves getting a product to market that we will buy.
One Senator asked them, how many product lines do you sell and how many are profitable? One said, they sell 60 products and 30 make money for them. Do we want to give money to him? And he didn't blink.
An economic professor was there to give the other side of the story. Unless they can get salaries to be in-line with Toyota in Indiana, they can't compete and make a profit. They'll be back for more money. Once we do give them money, they'll be able to hold a gun to our heads. Well if you don't give us more, the first amount will be gone forever. It will be a non ending cycle.
I think they plan on giving them the money anyway because that's what our Congress does best. Doesn't this give us a warm feeling of what's in store for us for the next 4 years? I'm going to have to turn off CSPAN. This is hard to watch.

Barack Obama snaps up Bombardier board member Jane Garvey THE CANADIAN PRESS
MONTREAL - Canadian-based transportation giant Bombardier Inc. has lost one of its board members to Barack Obama's presidential transition team.
The U.S. president-elect has plucked Jane Garvey from the ranks of the Montreal train-and-plane manufacturer, where she has served on the board of directors since last year. The 63-year-old Maine resident has been touted as a possible transportation secretary in Obama's cabinet.
Garvey was appointed by Bill Clinton in 1997 as the first female head of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, a post she held for five years.
Her most recent boss saluted her service to Bombardier.
"I would like to thank Jane Garvey for her sound advice and guidance during her tenure," said Laurent Beaudoin, Bombardier's chairman.
"We wish her great success."
Garvey's departure brings the total number of Bombardier directors to 12. The company said it would begin seeking a replacement.
A Bombardier spokeswoman said Obama would be well-served by Garvey, who has also been working as an adviser to financial-services powerhouse Morgan Stanley.
"She's a lady with great experience and undeniable knowledge of the transportation industry so it's certainly a good asset for the transition team," said Isabelle Rondeau.
Obama will be inaugurated as the United States's 44th president on Jan. 20.
