I'll be dang, I sure did! And it is such a "non-sensitive" subject too!!!!!

Moody, I have been over there some time back..a few pages. I was told that I wasn't wanted. That I was a troll. Can you imagine that? Why would anyone call me a troll? Why would anyone chase me, this kind little ole lady, away? I thought people over <-------------------- believed in free speech.
If one posted anything "negative" over there it was like we were jinxing the outcome of the election. Well, my dd went to "work" for a company like that many years ago. One couldn't talk negatively about the products, how they had to pay their own way to "conventions," anything negative about ANY thing concerning that company. She was totally brainwashed. She also claim bankruptcy in her 20s and it devastated her. However, she learned a lesson she'll never forget.
One must listen to positive and negative to find the REAL answers. Then there are those that refuse to look any further than their blind eyes can see or deaf ears can hear. The outcome is not always as one expected. I hope I'm wrong this time.
Shirley
BTW, what kind of dog is in your avatar? I had a pom and in the picture yours looks like a pom..the same color of mine. She was my baby. We lost her when I was having rads..hard hard decision to make.

Oh, Blaest1, Blaest2, Blaest3, Blaest4, Blaest5, Blaest6 and whomever comes next. Have you not read on the Obama thread the many times I have been called a troll, told I wasn't welcome over there because I challenged their thinking. Anything negative posted on that thread was not wanted. So, Blaest7, go over there. You will be so much more happy. I have never reported anyone to the mods, but I'm getting very close to that point. I'm tired of you following us around just to post ugly comments. Now GO..GO...SHOO..SHOO....Get a life.

Happy VETERANS DAY! Did anyone notice that the NYT didn't give one sentence to it? Oh heck, that's not surprising.
I have no idea which family members served in which wars. I do know my dad served in WWII. He saw many things, spoke very little about them unless we asked. I wished I had asked more..video taped. He won many medals. I never saw them..my brother did when he had to get papers together for him to go to the VA hospital. He had a letter than came from Washington wanting him to go there to receive a medal. Those letters and medals have since been stolen.
One of my brothers served in Viet Nam. Of course I know many people who served during tht war...it was my era. I remember how badly the soldiers were treated when coming home. I remember a certain congressman saying horrible things about our vets. I remember NOW how Murtha said horrible things about our vets and he's been reelected even after calling his own constituents racists..then apologizing only to call them rednecks.
I hope we've learned a lesson from the Viet Nam war. However, there's always those few who have stupid things to say i.e. MURTHA!

Good article (most of it), Roctobermom. Yes, I'm kind of sick and tired of hearing how Bush mishandled Katrina. What was he supposed to do? Fly down there and make people leave? Make sure there were GOOD shelters available? I don't get it. But, everything's Bush's fault. Even the Wall Street mess..forget about Barney Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Waters, and many more. And then the dems say..look what Bush has done...nationalized the banks. Oh, but the dems wanted that stimulus package. When the majority of Repubs wouldn't go along with it the first time around hell broke loose. The dems didn't want to take the responsibility ALONE because they were afraid of their jobs being lost. What has the dem congress done for us for the past two years? They have a 9% approval rating. Pelosi and her ilk will ruin our country. She's upstaging President Elect Barak Obama who will now be called by me PEBO!

Its just ignorant statements like this that educated people find offensive. For example, the ACLU is a group of people who stand up for the personal-civil rights of ALL americans. Many of these people work for virtually nothing but the knowledge that they have tried to do some good in their lives. And they are mocked, maligned and lampooned by the truly ignorant in their attempts to stand-up for free speech and basic human rights. Thank god with the election of Obama that some sanity will come back into the national concience.
Are you freaking kidding me? Where were they when Palin was lied about? Why didn't they OR the "woman's movement" speak up for how she was treated EVEN though they may have not liked her politics. No one should have been treated this way..her children drug through the mud.
Why am I not ignoring you? SHOO..SHOO..GO AWAY. I keep hearing this annoying sound going around my head like a mosquito is in my ear.

when he's president we can refer to him as PO ... I'm really PO'd by what they've done to Sarah Palin and her family ...

I am officially frightened. This was just posted <---------
I want to see more local arts, more grass roots, in fact, a depression might not be a bad thing if it go people dealing with one another as *PEOPLE*
My parents lived through the great depression, and even though I wasn't born until many years later, their experience and resulting attitudes continue to affect many aspects of my life now. Everyone who I have ever known who survived that experience has lived to some degreee in fear of it happening again, and this person thinks it wouldn't be a bad thing???? She obviously doesn't know or listen to anyone old enough to remember the last depression.

Things are moving to fast here for more Sherri you keep catching my eye LOL Blaest or however it is spelled is not a troll and I beleive is and independent asking questions on both threads. They are new and can only post 5 posts a day since they are new. You may want to read her posts as she is not a troll and seriously trying to debate sort of.
LuAnn, sweetie. You are a sweetie, you know. But, why are you defending this person who comes here on this thread MULTIPLE times in a row to instigate trouble. Yep, I've been on the Obama thread. I've been called a troll, toxic whatever especially by one person who says she ignores me. I haven't been back over there because it does no good. I haven't read anything over there for several days. I'm trying very hard not to because it just upsets me.
When I did post over there I didn't post one post after another just to raise the hair on their backs. Many of my posts were in response to racist accusations. And other's I'm sure. But there really is a difference from this person.
If this person wanted to post more often under one name he/she could go to the mods and ask. But, now that his person has used mulitple names how is this person going to EVER be able to post more than five posts a day? There is something very, very wrong. And I don't want to go to the Obama thread to read this person's comments/posts. I believe he/she voted for Obama or at least we know he/she is happy with the election results.
I'm going to have to use Sherri's name, "it," for this person...typing this person or he/she...well I could type Blaest or whatever it wants to called itself.

This is the best thing to do

PatMom, I agree with you. A depression is a horrible thing.
I remember hearing Obama say that we need to eat less, turn our thermostats down, and higher gas prices are good (something to that effect). Hmmmm...perhaps for him these things are just fine. He doesn't ever have to worry about where he's getting food from healtchare, how hot or cold his indoor invironment is (isn't he getting a basketball court?)....nothing. Many of us are worrying about those things NOW, and the depression hasn't hit. I think they need to
the Great Depression and brush up on their history.

Hey Shirley, my little dog is a pom. She will be 13 yrs old Nov 25th. She is precious! She goes everywhere with me including work. When I would be laid up in bed due to treatment or surgery, she would lay right by my head.
She has a few medical conditions but we manage them well with meds. She has hypo-thyroid, cushings disease, and RADS has made her go blind. But that is okay cause I carry her anyway. You wouldnt know she had these ailments, as she is such a happy, playful little thing still.
The stuffed bear in the picture with her has been her favorite toy since I brought her home 13 years ago!
Im heart broken for you about your little dog. To have to make a decision like that while your battling bc really sucks.

Moody, when I went into the hospital for my mastectomy my friend who was watching out for my Tasha called just as I was walking into the hospital door. She was taking my baby to the vet. She stayed in the hospital a day longer than I did. And when she got out you could tell she as sick..she wasn't wagging her tail. But she did sleep right by my feet.
She was 16 when we had to make "that decision." She had a collapsed trachea which she had for years. But it got so much worse and her breathing was very labored. She had other problems too..sometimes couldn't even get up or walk if she managed to get up. She would cry at times. And, as you know, animals do not cry unless there's something wrong. I probably should have made that "decision" sooner, but I couldn't. And as soon as she went to sleep I rant out of the vets office bawling my eyes out. I couldn't look at her face once she was gone. Geez, I'm crying again and this happened in 2005. She was a really sweetie.
I adore Poms. I probably won't get another dog. We have four cats now and they would not be happy. PLUS they are expensive! We just recently spent almost a thousand dollars on one of our cats...kidney stone. When I took her back for her ultra sound it was gone! Either she passed it or it disolved. We had another cat that had surgery to remove the kidney stone and it costs almost $900. So, when the vet couldn't find Abby's stone I almost shouted!
Anyway, you're baby is adorable.
Shirley
-
Im crying too, thanks Shirley. LOL
Gretel is my pom's name but we call her "beebits" long story, but she answers to both. She also has a collapsing trachea. She has only had to be treated once thank goodness. Yes, poms are expensive! I spend over $1000 every year in vets and meds and tests. The upside to that is when I call the vets office, the girls know my voice and I get "presidential" treatment.

Anyone watch Gov Palin on FNC last night or Today show this am? It was really good. She will be on for part 2 tonight on FNC

I couldn't help myself. I was wanting to see how Blaest posted over there because of what LuAnn said. LuAnn this is not meant to be derogatory toward you. I just had to see.

Blaest,
Give it up on the other thread. Your'e baiting them and pissing them off. You won't convince them of anything--their minds are made up (funny, they accuse us of everything we accuse them of.)
Hang out here if you wish and talk policy and transition with us "wonks." Over there, you're stirring up a hornet's nest--which I think is your intent, no? It's just more divisive.

blaest- you're my new best friend--- lol. Glad you've got the energy to refute ignorance. I admire that. Just remember some of those folks think Palin is smart and people who are educated are elilitist so you're not talking to the most open minded, folks.
Okay, blaest told a fib. Anne told the truth...baiting. And our resident psychologist luckily is not treating others for mental needs. We're ignorant and not open minded. I don't know how she could know. Because we do not accept that the One is the one that should "rule" our country means we're "ignorant?" There is nothing that the "One" has done to persuade us that he can "rule" this country. Oh, the ignorance!

Moody, Tasha was treated for many years for her collapsed trachea. She would be on steroids a while. But near the end of her years she was on them daily. I was told by the vet that this can be common in small dogs. And, we did not put a collar on her for walking. We used a harness.
It got to the point we couldn't walk her. Between the extreme temps and her walking...she also had a knee that would go out...we trained her to what we called "pee pads." We bought them from Wal Mart. Sometimes it's very tempting to get another Pom, but I think having the four cats is enough. LOL
Hopefully your baby will be around for many more years.
Shirley
Oh, Tasha is not sitting on our mantle. LOL

It's been a while since I posted here. I thought now that the election is over I can drop in to see what's going on.
I think we Republicans have a silver lining here. If we are wrong and Obama will turn out to be a good choice , we will see our savings/401K grwoing: I can live with it.And if we are right , we'll get to throw a lot of democrats ouf ot the House in 2 years just like we did after first 2 years with Clinton who went too far to the left.
In some ways I feel sorry for liberals who are pinning all their unrealistic ellusive hopes on Obama. They talk about CHANGE and look who is Obama surrounding himself with: not many new faces there
I think they are in for some rude awakening.

Shirley why would you say that the NYT didn't give one sentence to Veteran's Day?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/11/opinion/11watson.html?ref=opinion
There was another opinion piece about was and an article about where Bush had observed the occasion. Are we reading different NYT? To be honest I usually just do the Sunday issue in depth and then rely on my husband to e-mail me good stuff during the week. I heard about this op-ed on the radio and then checked and read the Bush article. -
mke, I don't know if there's a different NYT online and paper issue. I didn't go online to read the NYT.
Watch this video until the end please.

You crack me up Shirley!

Well unless BO's people show up with a lot of $$$$ for advertising and charter buses to drive people to polls Saxby will win no problem.
Martin has no $$ left so I havent seen any commercials since last tuesday. Saxby however got em running every commercial break.
only reason martin got the votes is cuz people going just so can vote for BO saw the "D" beside martins name and that was good enough for them.
usually here, repubs will return for run-offs to vote, but dems always have poor turnout. keep fingers crossed. i will go back and vote and so will my hubby.
-
Jim Martin runs for SOMETHING everytime there is an election here it seem like. his name is always on the ballot, but he never wins, i dont know why he is still around! talk about a lying s.o.b. he is one running commercials saying saxby gonna put 23% sales tax on everything you buy.
he left off the little teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy fact that it would eliminate ALL FED, STATE, MEDICARE, SS TAXES which are WAY more than 23%!
big dummy!
-
yep, he got like 3% . saxby got 49.8% and to avoid run off he had to get 50%
actually they are being funded by a diff group but for the life of me cant think of their name.
-
Oh Shirley, guess I'm too nice for my own good, how about this one for those of you that haven't seen it yet in my other thread, but these are my heros on Veteran's Day! My little boy and his commarades in iraq!
If you all didn't see my other thread, these young men did these photos in everyone's honor on this board!
-
Sorry Shirley, I'm somewhat computer impaired. I did try to watch the video, but my speakers are the pits and I found it hard to follow the transcript. I did get that they think that soldiers were endangered by the front page article, as least I think so. Also that one said that there wasn't a front page article. But still that doesn't translate to "not one sentence" about veterans.
I don't read the NYT either on line or hard copy every day. Hard copy on Sunday only, online only sometimes.
Trust me, no one steals any election in Minn. Those Norwegian bachelor farmers are tough. There is a paper trail all the way. I don't think Minn even formally has a democratic party. I think it might still be the DFL. -
LuAnn, thank you for those wonderful, uplifting photographs. I am happy to speak with the Lord and say "Bryan" instead of "LuAnn's little boy".
I may be many things. An "eliltist"
is not one of them, nor the untrue things said by B, C, and D. Am I hurt? Oh, darlin's, I have the vapors.....
Y'all have a perfectly marvelous day~~~and be smart, loving, productive and forgiving!

I completely stay out of the political threads, except to very occasionally post something that is hopefully completely nonpartisan. (I do read both threads.) Being raised in Minnesota, a couple of the posts with regard to the Coleman-Franken results caught my eye. Here's an excellent article that explains how the voting process works in Minnesota and how it is that Franken could win in the recount. It seems as though there is very little room for error or fraud, and typical of Minnesotans, has common sense built into it. (Okay, maybe I'm a little biased about Minnesotans.) So no matter which candidate wins, hopefully, it's a sure bet that the person who received the most votes is declared the winner. You betcha.
Have to note, though, I don't know anything about the publication the article appears in.

SACK LUNCHES
I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat. It was going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,' I thought. Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. 'Where are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. 'Chicago - to Great Lakes Base. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Iraq. After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached Chicago, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time. As I reached for my wallet, I overheard soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to Chicago 'His friend agreed. I looked around at the other soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.
She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq; it's almost like you are doing it for him.' Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked, 'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?' 'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. 'This is your thanks. After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this.' He handed me twenty-five dollars. Soon after I returned to my seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he stopped, smiled, held out his hand, an said, 'I want to shake your hand.' Quickly unfastening my seatbelt I stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot. I was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.
Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm. When we landed in Chicago I gathered my belongings and started to deplane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars. Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars. 'It will take you some time to re ach the base. It will be about time for a sandwich. God Bless You. Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little... -
Daffodil, I'm sitting here sobbing. Thanks for posting that beautiful story.
