Lauren .... YOU HAVE GROWTH!!!! How exciting! I've been out for the count for about 2 weeks (had to have some down time). I'm so glad to hear this - even though you're itchy ... it's coming!!!

Ladies, this is one year after finishing 4 DD A/C and bald as a baby's butt. Would be much longer looking if it were not so curly! So, take heart. Yours WILL grow.
Note: It had been trimmed once before these photos.

bumping up for the chemo chicks....

That is alot of hair.. and one year out doesnt honestly sounds so bad now. My hair is not coming in curly so wondering if it will grow in and stick straight up! LOL.. as said already gel/mousse will be my friend. I do have a very good hair stylist who coicidentally lost her mother to breast cancer years ago. She is going to be a big help. She does go on maternity leave July through October so hoping that in between won't need anything done. If I do I may go to her house ! LOL
I have had my hair short in the past 10 years but not this short! Oh well just glad that hair is coming back and will hopefully soon blow in the wind. What is funny about wearing a wig is that if it is wind, it blows but then when the wind stops the hair stays sticking up and doesn't fall back into place. This is mondo annoying, my 13 year old daughter is always 'fixing' my hair.

I know we all get frustrated waiting for it to grow back. (I know I am.... even now, 18 months after chemo was done (*grin*)). For awhile it even seemed to take over my thoughts.... They went like this...
Anyway, thought you'd enjoy this (*grin*).

Bump!

I finished chemo 11/29/07 and herceptin 8/15/08. My hair was thick with a little wave and down past my shoulders before chemo. It has grown in thick and very curly. Unfortunately, I went for a trim and got a full haircut instead, and now it just feels like it is never going to grow out nicely--I'm just going to have this bush on my head. I hate it. And I feel bad saying I hate it because at least I HAVE hair again. And it's not gray, it's the same lovely brunette that it was before cancer. I'm 49 and not a hint of gray.Okay, so I needed to vent. I feel quite ugly today. :-(

Newter,
Thanks again for publishing the picture essay by karinstack (go to top of page for URL). I am 4 months past chemo and still frustrated at how long it is taking, and I''m sure no growth is happening at all, but then when I post onto that site, I see that my gorwth is pretty typical, and matches where I should be at 16 weeks, and look, the other gal had real pretty hair in just a few more months. So it is most helpful. It's just this GI Jane phase seems to be taking ffff----ng forever, but there is hope!
Regards to all!

Bump again
Just to let you know, the picture in my avatar is 2 years past chemo. My hair is almost half way down my back and I am very happy with it. Mine grew pretty much on schedule with the pictures.

Thanks for the pictures -- I just found this link on Active topics. Mine is about an inch long and I see the beginning of waves. It was naturally curly before, but I don't care as long as it is hair.
When the pictures come up, there is no time reference. It that every week or every month?
-
Hi Nancy,
I believe each picture is a week, the whole page is a year,
I hear you about being happy having hair, any hair. I certainly am not going to complain about mine. I color it but I still do not blow it out much or use any kind of heat. I keep shopping for decent curlers that wont pull out my hair or damage it in any way.

I just checked my iCal, and it's been 40 weeks since my last chemo tx. My hair is totally different from the pics in that Karin Stack series. Mine was perfectly straight before chemo, but now it's way curlier than in those weekly pics. How did she get by without the curlycurls???

I'm with Otter. My hair was straight and shoulder length before--well, with a little waviness in the back--but I now have a very tight "fro" and have no idea what I am going to do with this if it stays this curly as it grows longer. It's not a great look on me--but at least it's hair.
-
Girls, mine came back super curly, too, but now, at almost 2 years post chemo, it is long and in layers and most of the curl is gone except at the ends. I had heard it took about 2 years to lose the curl and that was true in my case. You should eventually go back to your own normal.
What fun.

bump.
five years out and it is spring...my hair is growing like a weed.
to my sisters watching and waiting for a come back... it does!
-
Six years out for me so I put together a little photo montage of old pics.
The first picture is 4 months growth, thick and curly. I ditched the wig at 2 months out.
The second is about 9 months and I didn't know what to do with those curls and bangs. Tried being a blond.
The third is 2 years and it is still thick, long and curly but less so. Loved that year.
The last is current - back to natural color, very thin and fine and exactly like it was before chemo - sigh!
-
Hi Nancy,
You look great in all of those pics -how great to see you again. I've been away a long time. Glad I stopped by and got to see your smiling face. Must admit I'm a little envious - my hair never grew back worth a darn! Used to be thick and dark - my mother called it my crowning glory. Now no crown or glory. But lots of grey streaks.
Just wanted to say hi to an old friend - I have missed you and thought of you often.
Hugs,
Niki

Awww Niki, It is so nice to hear from you again. You are coming up to 6 years - Yay! Are you recovered from the dog attack? Was there permanent damage? I'm so sorry that happened to you after everything else.
Well, my hair is exactly like before chemo now. It's thin and fine and in the last picture, I think you can see my scalp at the part. Maybe I should just shave it off? NOT. They say it isn't true that it grows back thicker because of shaving it but it sure seemed like it. I never had thick hair in my life until after chemo. It was nice while it lasted.
Did you shave your head when we had that sock monkey ritual thing going on? Hate to say it but it was a great distraction and fun while we were going through the worst.
I missed you also and all the other oldies. I put together a photo album of our team meets in Michigan. Drop by and look at them and see if you remember anyone.

Wishing you the best Niki!!!

When I lost my hair to chemo I was very anxious to see hair growth photo journals to get an idea of what the stages of hair growth would look like. I found only two, One of them is the one you have posted. I decided that women would benefit from an additional hair growth photo journal so I take pics and update them every week. View my website at www.thelindasimon.com . to see my hair growth photo video journal.
-
I am so glad you said that about the wind blowing your hair. I noticed it when it was till just "fuzz". It was the best feeling ever!
I am 7 months out from chemo and 4 out from radiation and I am still pretty bald on top. Does anyone know if this is "normal" I am starting to worry that it won't come back in. The back and sides aren't doing too badly, but it's still all very soft and fine.

I went threw Chemo last summer and was very anxious to view hair regrowth photos. I found very few, one of them by Paula which I viewed constantly. I thought women would benfit from an additional one so I took weekly pictures and update them freguently. You can view it at www.thelindasimon.com. It's called Breast Cancer Survivor Thank God But I Miss My Hair.
When I update my video the previous video disappears and it is not replaced by the new one. So in case you see my page (on google) but there is no video just log onto my web-site to view the Hair Journal.
Enjoy!

IMISSMYHAIR1 - what a neat video! Thanks for sharing.

I have been made (with plenty of other ladies) permanently bald with Taxotere.
Watching these vids and pictues just makes me want to weep!
