    This is for Odalys

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Just hours after U.S. President-elect Barack Obama delivered his victory speech, Russia's leader delivered a scathing rebuke of U.S. policy and reminded Obama of some of the major foreign policy challenges he will face in office.

    Russian President Dmitry Medvedev

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev makes the address to the nation in Moscow's Kremlin.

In his first state-of-the-nation speech since taking office earlier this year, President Dmitry Medvedev warned that Russian missiles will be deployed against the planned U.S. missile shield in eastern Europe.

"The Iskander missile system will be deployed in Kaliningrad region to neutralize, when necessary, the missile shield," Medvedev said. "We are also planning to use the resources of the Russian naval fleet for these purposes."

Moscow has long been infuriated by a U.S. plan for the defensive missile installation, which includes basing missile interceptors in Poland. Russian officials previously warned that such a move would open Poland up to an attack in the event of conflict.

Under the U.S. plan, the interceptor rockets in Poland would be linked to an air-defense radar system in the Czech Republic. VideoWatch more about the Kremlin attack on U.S. policy »

Russia fears the missile shield would blunt its nuclear deterrent, but the United States has said the shield is meant to defend Europe from a possible missile attack from the Middle East or Iran.

Don't Miss World cheers Obama victory Poland signs missile shield deal with U.S. Analysis: A new Cold War -- or more hot air? Medvedev had more harsh words for America, criticizing its support for Georgia's "barbaric aggression" in the recent conflict in South Ossetia. He also blamed the United States for the global financial crisis."The most powerful, the economy of the United States ... took down a tailspin of the financial markets of the whole planet," Medvedev said. "This crisis, this has also acquired a global nature. Certain features of local problems becoming common problems, this is typical of the modern world today."Though Medvedev's speech showed Russia is not softening its foreign policy, he followed the remarks with a congratulatory telegram to Obama in which he called for continued cooperation on a number of issues. Medvedev also said he hopes for a constructive dialogue with the next U.S. president.advertisement Medvedev said in his speech that Russia has no problems with the American people."We have no inborn anti-Americanism," Medvedev said. "We hope that our partners, the new administration in the United States of America, shall choose to respect full-fledged relationships with Russia."      I hope all the dem. get their miracles they want no work more money etc etc it scares me that so many of the enemy country wanted him to get in god bless all of us and pray it works out OK or we might have another war on our hands... I am going with my gut and what I hear on Fox is not good so hopefully the unexperienced man who is going to be in charge will have plenty of help and he is not a Kennedy he had been in a war and experienced... Maybe he will be the one who lets them find the cure for breast cancer so we and our daughters and grand daughters don't have this awful disease...I blame Bush for the results yesterday I was voting for McCain not Bush. Don't all these people know if they tax the big companies that we will be the ones hit by it....

Maura - I'm with you, yesterday is prove Bush failed us NOT McCain.  I also think picking Palin did not help him either.

I have a very sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach...same one I get before a hurricane.  I sure hope this is not the quiet before the storm.

McCain got 55.6 million votes and still counting.  That number in the past usually wins an election.  I don't think Gov. Palin hurt him as much as him not being able to break through to the mesmerized crowds.

We don't usually elect the same party after they had an 8 year run anyway.  Except in the case of George Sr., and then even he only lasted for 4 years.  Carter, 4 years after an 8 year run of Nixon and Ford.  Being that Bush was so unpopular, the republicans had an uphill fight all the way.

As for me, Gov. Palin energized us. I see her coming back in to the national limelight, hopefully she'll find a way into the Senate to broaden her experience, she won't have to spend much time there, as we see, 140 days or so will do it, and we'll see what happens.  No, I do not blame McCain's loss on Gov. Palin.

    ebann,

I like that!  Your dh should be a writer!!

    Shirley,

Hey!!  I went to bed at just around 11:00, when Fox News gave VA to Obama.  DH and I knew it was over...    Oh, you had fried shrimp for dinner, after you voted?  You know that fried shrimp are one of my favorites!  Unless something unforseen happens, I won't be making another trip up to Wilmington until Dec. 12th, which is my next onc appt...  WOW!  It will be TWO whole months since I had even a pcp dr. appt....   Even though I hate going to see my onc, I am looking forward to seeing you again!!

Well, we shall see what happens next...  scary for sure, but this is MY country and I am definitely proud that I live in a country where I am able to vote and have a say in who runs my country.  I just hope that Pres. Obama listens to his advisors and doesn't make any decisions that will put this country in even worse shape than it is now...  I hope that he rises to the occasion, although he is untested in International waters!!

Congratulations to President Elect Obama and the historic nature of his campaign.  I'm going to try to be hopeful that he moves to the center as has been the case with other Presidents.

I accidentally found this just messing around.  I believe this was back in July.  Pelosi sure looks very friendly with Obama.  LOLCongressional approval ratings are at record low levels, with a Rasmussen Reports survey registering a single-digits approval rating (9%) for the first time ever earlier this month. In that same poll, 52% of respondents said that they thought Congress was doing a poor job, tying a record high. Now Congress's unpopularity could become a liability for Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

Republicans welcomed Sen Obama to Capitol Hill today, where he was scheduled to meet with House Democrats, with a news conference in which they charged that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader

Usually keep my mouth shut on this thread, but you just can't give this up, huh? You need to read and reread the Serenity Prayer. So you can accept the things you cannot change.

Auntgina and 2NewBoobs, were you talking to me.  Yes, I have a hard time with that prayer.  I need to reread it every day more than once.  I'm not perfect.  I am extremely disappointed..but it will pass just like all the other disappointments one experiences.

I hate for you to come here to meet me on this thread.  I'm not all about politics, but I certainly took this very seriously.  I spent hours searching and reading not just listening to the pundits and emails, etc.  I tried to inform myself and perhaps you can understand how very into this election with so much time in it.

I have found too, too many people who new nothing about our new president-to-be.  They'd try to argue why they were voting for them, but they never could win and would become frustrated.  And when they couldn't debate with me they just wanted to stop talking about it.  You see, it's good to research and be informed.

Lisa, we always blame someone in our government for our troubles.  I suppose that's the American Way.

Auntgina, I read what you said on another thread.  Please believe me, Obama's color had absolutely NOTHING to do with my choice.  We, on this thread, have been accused of being racist.  We are not!  I would vote for Michael Steele any time of the day if I knew I agreed with him.  And, what I know of Mr. Steele, I do agree with his positions.

I am happy for you that this candidate has won because it seemed as though color meant a great deal to you and many other voters.  That was NOT my worry.  I have many other worries about a President Obama.  But I am not going to rehash them now.  It's over.

Thank you for coming back and being understanding.  I am not out to anger anyone, but this is the one place that I can vent to others that understand...just like the Obama thread.

auntgina and 2badboobs (edited: I just realized the name is 2newboobs, I do apologize for that)...Shirley is entitled to her opinions and thoughts just as you are entitled to yours. I personally find it odd that the two of you suddenly come to this thread and start chastising after all this time. We all come from different backgrounds and think differently and that is what makes everyone unique. And as Republicans we have the right to be a tad disappointed just as you have the right to be elated. If we are truly going to reach across the drawn lines and work together we will ALL have to be more tolerant of each other in our thoughts and actions.

One of the things I have noticed about Shirley is that she is always readily to admit what she needs to work on and I don't see that in a lot of people on this board including myself.

As a lifelong liberal Democrat and civil rights activist who opposes Obama I deeply resent all the people who have never met the man making baseless accusations of racism against everyone who opposes him. Those of us with long term personal and intimate knowledge of him oppose him on the basis of the content of his character, not the color of his skin, and we know better than to believe the hype and extreme marketing campaign that sold him to the American public. The Chicago corruption, ruthlessness, and thuggish "ends justifies any means necessary" voter fraud and voter intimidation perpetrated by him and his campaign is sickening. If you have not known him personally for 15 years then you don't really know him. We do, and that is why so many lifelong Democrats opposed him. We know we cannot trust him. That is why we supported John McCain - because of the quality content of his character. Now we have every right to be concerned as to the future of our country, and our democracy. We know "our own" all too well. John McCain wasn't nearly "negative" enough in his criticisms, so people never learned, or believed, the truth about Barack Obama. The media refused to cover the worst of it.

I deeply appreciate how many African Americans in this country have reason to feel elated at his election, and for the wonderful possibilities that opens up for their dreams, and their children's futures. I feel happy at that aspect of the Obama election as well. That is the ONLY part of this that feels good to me, because of the goodness that may accrue to them. Part of me hopes that Obama's corruption is not revealed because of how it would tarnish that very precious and fragile new hope. I do also wish it had gone to someone like Colin Powell to be the first AA president, someone with experience, ethics, morals, and who would not disappoint, as I fear Obama inevitably will. I have very mixed feelings about this election, and feel immense sadness that John McCain and Hillary Clinton, both of whom I believe would have been great presidents, will never have that chance. I feel great grief we will never benefit from their leadership of our country.

Thanks, 2NewBoobs.  I want to warn you that on the Polling thread there was something from a poster that made a VERY insulting remark toward me.  I answered her back.  I want to clarify the pic above.  The picture is merely my way of pointing out that Pelosi and Obama who lean very far left are very chummy...no more...no less.  The picture was in that same article..that was a piece of an article.  I was in NO WAY insinuating or accusing the two of them been romantic.  And I'm extremely upset that the poster would even post something like that BECAUSE you ladies do not know me.

07Rescue - Beautifully said.  Thank you so much.  I do hope he proves us wrong but fear with time his true self will be revealed.  His promises, campaign tactics, body language down to his fingure pointing posture are all too familiar.  Soon Americans will find out he is no Dr. King or President Kennedy.

TO:  Those of you who consider those of us who didn't vote Obama as "racists" -- consider this.  90% of the voters in Washington, DC voted for Obama.  Now . . . do you mean to tell us that those votes weren't motivated by race IN FAVOR of Obama?!  It cuts both ways, ladies.  I assert that Obama was elected BECAUSE he's black (or half black, I should remind us).  I didn't vote for Obama not because he's black - I didn't voted for him because no one knows who he is or what he believes.  He's already eluded that Robert Kennedy, Jr. will head up the EPA.  Do you know what this means for America?  You think $4.00/gallon gasoline is high?!  Kennedy is vehemently opposed to offshore driling.  So "adios" and "goodbye" to what tax relief you might have thought Obama would fork over.  The other stuff he'll take away from middle class America will hurt much more.

Sour grapes?  Nope -- just want to go on record for future reference.

Having voiced that (because I felt compelled to do so by auntgina and 2newboobs) -- I've prayed and will continue to do so that the new administration is curtailed from doing too much harm in the forthcoming four years.  Like most presidents, he'll only be able to do what Congress will allow.  And . . . he might surprise us!  I hope so.  I withhold final judgment until I hear who his cabinet will be.  But for now, I'm concerned about our future.

BJ - I paid $1.96/gallon for gas yesterday.  Offshore drilling has nothing to do with the price of gasoline at the pump.

You are apparently angry and terrified and worried about our future.  I feel sorry for all of you who are hell bent on believing that Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

    BJ,

I agree...  if WE don't start drilling HERE soon, ... well, perhaps it's already too late.  OPEC keeps fixing it so the price of gas GOES WAY UP, but no one seems to get it...  The only reason GAS has gone down now is that there are problems with the GLOBAL economy.  Yes, ALL countries are having trouble finding enough money.  That is why OPEC hasn't been able to decrease their export, which will make the cost of gas for us go WAY UP again!!  Because they need the money, too, they don't have the luxury of decreasing our supply like they usually do.  I just hope this continues for awhile.

BJ...I hadn't read that about Kennedy Jr., what a break for him, keep grooming him and a new generation of Kennedys will be in the White House and people talk about a Bush dynasty! Middle class America will be carrying the tax burden, always have, always will, nothing is going to change where that is concerned. The wealthy do not keep their money in Bank of America, get real and the rest get the tax credits, you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know that about the taxing of America. The current tax system is one reason I favor a flat tax across the board.

And where the upcoming administration is concerned, it will be interesting.  As president, true Obama will be no different than any other, what will be accomplished is what congress will allow. Personally I don't believe it will be much different than any other presidency where policies are concerned, to me the president is to a certain degree a figure head. I do hope Obama's dreams for America aren't squashed because I honestly believe he means well and does have America's interests at heart just as McCain had America's interests at heart. I believe these people that run for the office of presidency all mean well in their own way and the differences in the political parties and what they stand for are human nature and not much different than everyone else's day to day differences, their's just seem to be on a higher scale.

Just as I have always said history will tell what Bush accomplished and what he failed to accomplish and the same will go for Obama.

One thing I have learned from this election, thanks to this board and these political threads is that I personally need to take a more active role in voicing to my representatives what I feel about what is happening in Washington instead of just b******* about it so I look at that as a good thing!

For now I plan to support Americas' choice of Barak Obama as president until or unless I have reason to not support him and then I hope I don't act like a 3rd grader and resort to name calling like some have done with our current administration but rather take the higher road and contact my representatives as to what I feel needs to be done.

07rescue, you should run for president!  You made more sense than most of the candidates!  Very well written and very well received.  Thank You!

Shirley, Im a "Colin Powell for President" gal.  Isn't he AA also?????  I too will judge on CHARACTER and not RACE.

While I am glad that racism is being taken off the table, I am so saddened by the fact that SEXISM is alive, well, and tolerated.

To those that "hated" Sara Palin, I ask why?  What did she ever do to you?  I dare say that none of us had even heard of her until JM announced her as his running mate.  It is reflective of the jealous tendencies women still have towards other women.  If someone gets more attention, or they are pretty, or they are successful, other women hate them.

What gripes my butt more than anything -including Obama's election based on race- is that even he is a sexist and no one cared.  He paid his females .87 to every 1.00 he paid the males.  And he isnt the only one still doing it.

The media went after Palin like flies on doo doo and no one cried "SEXISM"  but buddy if anyone said anything even remotely against "Golden Boy" all we hear is "RACISM".

I pray that congress will shut down Obama's idea of universal healthcare, cutting defense spending, bringing in a "new homeland" military force, bankrupting clean coal researchers & manufacturers, raising capital gains taxes, and giving tax refund checks to the 40% of americans that NEVER PAID ANY TAXES (a.k.a. welfare checks).

If you read the threads where women post here under the "waiting for tests or results" you hear the anxiety in thier voices.  As we all know the wait is terrible.  And we are talking 1-3 weeks on average I see.  Well, if we get universal health care it wont be waiting 2 weeks for follow-up mammo, it will be 2 months.  Instead of surgery right away, we will be in the back of the line waiting 3 or more months.  And our wonderful physicians who have been instrumental in keeping us alive, will begin to look for other careers as they wont get paid s*!#* and they are still expected to take the risks........

And after Obama requires small businesses to pay higher capital gains taxes and penalties for not offering HIS government run healthcare, then I will have to close my doors too.  But then I guess I can live off the government too then?
