LAP- I posted about PROP 8 in the lesbian section. This is such a crucial issue for the LGBT community. I'm so glad I don't have to see any anti-gay ads on tv- that would upset me and make my blood boil at the repubs even more. I know that there are some liberal republicans who are fiscally conservative and culturally liberal but this not coming from the dems by in large. I think it's great if a little girl wants to grow up and marry a princess or whoever she wants to marry- as long as she's happy.  Many kids know at that age that they feel more comfortable thinking about kissing girls than boys and that they don't dream of marrying boys/men/princes.  In philly we're getting inundated with positive obama ads and negative obama ads, not much about McCain which should tell us something. With the numbers we're seeing for Obama I wonder if they'll pull most of the ads and spend the money where the numbers are closer.

LuAnn, I'm so sorry to hear about your son's conditions.  My nephew just got back from Iraq in May (thank God) and honorably discharged from the Marines in August -- just attended an Obama rally in the Midwest as a supporter!  He had a relatively minor combat injury, but lost a ton of weight, and he was not overweight to begin with.  LuAnn -- just make sure you protect yourself if you go to the Palin rally -- I'm afraided the rest of the audience can be physically rough on protestors, and they might not care that your son is in Iraq, or that your health is compromised.  Sorry to be a fraidy cat for you, but...  you know!  Now, if a bunch of us could be there as your secret service, that'd be cool!

fwiw  lots of repug chatter on Barack's missing thesis paper from Columbia. It seems Barack does not have a copy of the paper he wrote  25 years ago. Discussion has resurfaced again after great discussion back in July:

Journalists began hounding Columbia University for copies of the musty document. Conservative bloggers began wondering if the young Obama had written a no-nukes screed that he might come to regret. And David Bossie, the former congressional investigator and "right-wing hit man," as one newspaper described him, took out classified newspaper ads in Columbia University's newspaper and the Chicago Tribune in March searching for the term paper.

So what does the missing paper say, and could it be politically damaging to Obama? The Obama campaign won't offer any guidance since it says it doesn't have a copy. Spokesman Ben LaBolt wouldn't even say whether Sen. Obama threw out his copy or lost it.

So we turned for answers to the former professor who graded the now-elusive paper. His former professor, Michael Baron, recalled in an interview with NBC News that Obama easily aced the year-long class. Baron described the paper as a "thesis" or "senior thesis" in several interviews, and said that Obama spent a year working on it. Baron recalls that the topic was nuclear negotiations with the Soviet Union.

"My recollection is that the paper was an analysis of the evolution of the arms reduction negotiations between the Soviet Union and the United States," Baron said in an e-mail. "At that time, a hot topic in foreign policy circles was finding a way in which each country could safely reduce the large arsenal of nuclear weapons pointed at the other ... For U.S. policy makers in both political parties, the aim was not disarmament, but achieving deep reductions in the Soviet nuclear arsenal and keeping a substantial and permanent American advantage. As I remember it, the paper was about those negotiations, their tactics and chances for success. Barack got an A."

Baron said that, even if he could find a copy of the paper, it would likely disappoint Obama's critics. "The course was not a polemical course, it was a course in decision making and how decisions got made," he said. "None of the papers in the class were controversial."

Laura...I can't believe they are pulling stuff up like that!  Talk about reaching!!!  WOW!  They are also trying to make themselves feel better and trying to scare the rest of us into thinking the polls are wrong.  Again, reaching WAY back to the "Bradley Effect."  Of course they must bring race into this.  Pack of hypocrits.  They will do anything but admit defeat. Oh well.  Let them reach all over the place, the same as the troll is doing.  The fact is the dow is down again.  Our economy is still crashing.  What can be more black and white than that?  And Obama is our next President!!!!  Obama '08..its almost here!!!!

PS  Today is the last day to register to vote in Oregon...any Oregon ladies out there, or know of any who haven't done so yet...spread the word!!!!

usually folks looking for barack's thesis also want to see a copy of his birth certificate which can be found here:

    ........................................

almost a post without sarah but no not quite.

seems the ethics investigation she opened up against herself to circumvent the legislative one has broadened the net and is looking in to other ethics violation complaints that are coming forward.

monegan filed a personal suit yesterday.

it seems sarah's house was built at the same time the hockey center in wasilla was and by the same contractors that also built a house for ted stevens. sarah and ted were close until july 2008.

it was these contractor gifts for political favors that ted stevens is on trial for.

    more investigations for sarah.

who would have thought we would ever get so much northern exposure?

So what does McCain do steal everything that Obama and Biden are doing.  Biden gives a speech this week-end and says his dad says whenever you fall down, get up.  Get up American.  Now I see McCain doing the same thing.  Geesh he makes me ill.

Nic- they say imitation is the highest form of flattery.

laura- I've been reading up on the bradley effect and I've been worried about that for a while. A few folks in the know have been saying in states like West Virgina there might be a reverse Bradley effect, people who won't want to admit they're voting for Obama, but will vote the economy over their misgivings about race. . These are going to be loooong 21 days.

Did you see the news report about the Sport Center building in Wasilla, and the Palin's home is not a mile from it and built by the contractor who built the sports center? Evidently, Palin was able to eliminate building permits for Wasilla. Only permit, is apiece of paper to be turned in that gives the completion date. It appears that Palin had much to do with the contract award, and getting her house built a year before the sports ctr was started. And there was some remark about her ties to Stevens. Also, she evidently got someone on a gas/oil committee she was on, thrown off, because of questionable "ethics," the same questionable "ethics" she uses now as governor of Alaska. Hmmmmmmmmm? Can the truth be ferreted out in less than 20 days?

Do you think she could stop talking like Bushy, with the gotchas, gonna's makin'--dropping the g on all the ing words. Can't believe she actually made it through college and earned a BA in Journalism. Frightening, how unfertile her mind is--think she might have had a lobotomy and no one knows about it? I think she's sneaky smart, but no real intelligence. Her answers to questions posed by other journalists are answered just as poorly as the Couric interview questions. We can't have this woman become President. What are these Republicans thinking?

    Love the youtube video, Laura!

Question - Anyone going to go see "W"?  I have mixed feelings about it.  When I *know* how a movie will end (i.e., Titanic, Passion of the Christ, Schindler's List, etc.,) I have a hard time finding it entertaining, especially when they end in such a depressing state.  But I like Oliver Stone and the trailers for the movie seem humorous...I am torn, leaning toward seeing it.

    Counting down to the debate...

    Good one, Cherryl!!

About Prop 8 in CA--the ads wanting us to vote no (and reverse the CA Supreme Court decision) talk about children in the second grade being taught marriage & now teachers will be forced to teach about gay marriage--I have one question: Does anyone remember being taught about marriage in your 2nd, let's ad 3,4,5,6,7,8+ grades? Never learned about marriage in school at all. Amazing how these negative ads prey on peoples' fears and lack of truthful knowledge! Oh, and being "older," I have to say that my 30 year old daughter was never taught "marriage" in elementary school--and I know, because I was a parent aide in all her classes at least once a week or more. The teachers would have told us about that for sure!

I don't think I can stomach "W." After 8 years, even if it was a comedy--with black humor LOL, I just can't even think about paying $8.00 to see what I lived through for the past 8 years. It's been all I could do to watch SNL when Bushy was impersonated, and that computer commercial--too real!

You sleep well too, Donna. From another really really left leaning liberal who thinks health care needs socialization in this country and lives in the forest, making her own bread most of the time, and gardening and living in shorts and thongs type of sister.

How about the rest of you?

I'm really looking forward to the debate tomorrow night!!  I know that Obama is going to rock this thing again!  I told a republican I know that its like that old Sidney Poitier movie, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?!!!  Well..make room because it's Obama time!!  Lets see how things go tomorrow, and what they will try and reach for.  It dosn't matter....Obama '08...its almost here!!!!

I just have to add this...I seen a thread about the "Undecided" I have been wondering who are these people are and HOW on earth can you be undecided at this point???  Maybe uninformed, but undecided??  I was going to ask...but I thought I better not stir their pot. It just dosn't make sense to me.  What do you think?

Grace, I don't think I can watch the movie either. I turn down the sound down the radio or tv because I can't deal with that thing!!! I won't insult the rest of the human race by calling him a person.

Laura, I try. But you know, being a dem, I just say what people want to hear. I have no position on anything.

G, I agree. How can anyone have any questions at this point in the game.

    OK, time for bed.

I posted this on the undecided thread, but thought I would also post it here. There are some great minds here, and I would love to have us ponder this for a while and think about how each of us feels. Gosh, I just think we need new job descriptions for some of our federal government positions!!

Doesn't it seem a little scary and "outdated" that we have an election coming up where the resume for a candidate to run doesn't require much formal education? And most professors can't get a job teaching at a 2yr college (here in CA) without the minimum of a Masters' Degree? AND Administrators (like Pres, VP, Provost, Dean) at the same colleges almost always nowadays have a PhD? There's something wrong with this picture!

It just bothers me that the Republicans are running two candidates with very little college/university education, and from what I understand only "C" grades to boot.

    Any feelings about this?

Just seems like things have changed since our Constitution and Bill of Rights were written. Those gentlement were self-educated; most having college background with classes like Latin, Ethics, Philosophy. Shouldn't our minimum "requirements" for Pres and VP of the US be updated and upgraded? Even Administrative Assistants (big words for Secretary) often require a BA degree in a related subject. Certainly Journalism would not be a related subject for VP would it?

In fact, I worked for a well-known department store years ago. I trained 3 managers with another fellow, and we did all the work assignments for 6 departments and about 30 employees, because the "managers" didn't know how to work it out. Duh! This fellow and I finally went to personnel, and asked if we could split the management position, as we were not only doing work assign, we were calling the buyers, and ordering all the products needed in: Toys, Sporting Goods (ski-winter, camp-summer), Cameras, Luggage and several more I can't think of now. The response from personnel was: Oh, no; we couldn't possibly do that. You need to have a BA degree--to work as a low-level manager for one store out of 15. Sad, that our highest job in the land has little education requirement!

I'd love to hear what others think.

I'm a little upset because I will miss the debate today.  We are having a Chamber of Commerce after hours event when I work.  Makes me feel like people will be wining and dining on one of the most important days in our country.

I like Keith Oberman, my DH doesnt.  He is one of the undecided, but I am seeing him more and more comment about the negativity coming from Palin and McCain.  Poor judgement on McCains part. I watched that vidoe where McCain was demanding an apology.  Another example of him being an angry old man who can't keep his figures and facts straight.

On the otherhand, Obama has been such a gentleman.  You didnt see him crying and demanding apologies.  I sure would love to do a memory test on McCain - I can see myself writing now.  Mild dementia of the Alzheimers type.

And who wouldnt want to do some mental health testing on Palin?  Im sure she has some personality disorder - just can't put my finger on which one.

This stuff about demanding to see Obama's transcripts is just another example - there is the smell of desperation coming out of McCains camp.  Maybe the poor old guy would have had a better chance if he used good judgement - but he hasnt.  He is Mister change my mind twice a day.  First he is for it, then he is against it.

The hatefulness coming out of McCains camp is disturbing.  Whats more disturbing is the smiles that come from Palins face when she hears someone shout "kill him."  Goodness - she could be our next president by default?

If McCain were truelly a Maverick (NOT), then why has he accepted such terrible advice about running his campaign by the same people he says he has no affiliation with?  I have been of voting age for 40 years now.  This has by far been the ugliest I have ever seen.

nic- narcissistic and histrionic personality disorders.

grace- I concur completely about the college education thing. What's scary to me about those who don't value education. Life experience is important too, but a PhD from the Hanoi hilton doesn't supercede the fortitude completing a rigorous education that one chooses to pursue.

20 days-- I hope they go quickly. I need to find someone to hang the flag holder- that's far beyond my scope of expertise.

Now people are basing their vote on the fact that some poor intern put Indiana in the wrong place on a map and they couldn't cue up some t-shirts on a tv show.  Because the show host is an Obama supporter they presume that this has some importance to his issues. I would think that for all the blunders on the Repub side that they would be careful about making those connections.  I just don't get it.

By the way.  Canada voted yesterday.  Stephen Harper (our prime minister, conservative) was re-elected with a minority gov't, but more seats than the previous minority.

Why does election time have to be so ugly?  Especially in our community.  We are brought together by a terrible disease that will kill way too many of us before our time.  Ultimately we have that in common and if we want anything done when it comes to money being allocated to research the only way it will happen is if we stick together as a group and not seperate.

I have paid alot more attention to politics this year than ever because the US is in such a sad state, but worse is how mean and evil people are becoming as the elections draw nearer.  I know many of you that post here from other areas of the board and am shocked at some of the hatred I hear.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and a vote that is the beauty of this country and its systems but why must we have such hatred that goes along with it?  This is an equal opportunity post and I will post it on both threads (dem and repub)

Here's something precious, did you guys read about this?

McCain Official Helped Saddam Lobbyists The McCain campaign, meanwhile, is facing new scrutiny over a top official's ties to former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. The investigative journalist Murray Waas has revealed the head of McCain's presidential transition team took part in a lobbying effort to lift the US-backed sanctions imposed on Iraq after the first Gulf War. The lobbyist, William Timmons, worked closely with two other lobbyists later convicted for acting as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein's government. Timmons helped the lobbyists on a deal that would have granted a contract to resell Iraqi oil. Timmons stood to share a $45 million windfall if the deal was approved. Timmons reportedly consulted on public talking points and lobbying strategies with top Iraqi officials, including former deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz. The McCain camp really should through stones at glass houses, now should them. I just laughed when I heard that. What hypocrites. Does this mean McCain is palling around with terrorists?

amy - timmons heads up mccain's transition team ...now there is a scary thought!

luann - i think everyone is a little tightly wound these days to say the least! this economy mess and the mccain/palin "obama pals around with terrorists" dialogue has brought out some very ugly stuff.

it is almost over, mccain is pulling out of wisconsin as he did michigan. surprising, before the debate 3, i think. but mccain needs to win wisconsin to win the election. and barack leads in the polls, double digits.

i know iknow, polls are blah blah....follow the money. the gop is pulling theirs from wisconsin while the dems are starting to pour money into kentucky and georgia...

wild and crazy this all is!
