laura- we really needed a safe haven from the hatred- once in a while someone pops in here and tries to spread McCain poison- but we're stronger than that as we stand together against hate.

Doesn't a person get a chance to rehabilitate. Ayers was never convicted of a crime and he's done a lot of positive things for his community and for education in the city of chicago. He was against the Viet Nam war and while some of the actions of the group he founded were dangerous, that was 40 years ago. I hate seeing people judged for actions of others or for things they did or said decades ago or from quotes taken out of context.

susan, there is video that supports my claim in regards to palin's aip membership made by the vice chair of the group. the los angeles time and the new york times have referenced this. neither have retracted their story. maybe sarah lied about her membership, it scertainly would not be the first time sarah lied for politcal purposes.
a look into sarah's ongoing in relationships with her aip pals; mark chryson, steve stoll, wally hickel, lynette clark, george clark show that "shirley's e-mail" is a little short on the full truth there.
i feel that sarah's aip pals that she surrounds herself, has taken favors from and put into jobs have some baring on both the way she has run her governorship and to her character.
it bothers me that she does not seem to understand the old addage, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and her attacks to obama's character on the ayres thing is troublesome.
...............
lap - evidentally hannity did not come up with any october surprises tonight.
donna - lol thinking of you standing in the nascar stands booing bush.
amy - we are all in this together, eye on the prize...
madalyn - missing sarah's updo too
nicki - what a horrible message this send our college kids!
anyway.... we can do this ladies!
only 100 more days of bush!
susan - i wish i could attend a rally, nobody comes to california this late in the game, how wonderful for your mom!

I have been watching alot of CNN this weekend and they are speculating the only way McCain will win the election if he comes up with some miraculous plan to help the economy that the people will buy into. If he can't do that before this weeks debate he is toast. When they put the maps up with who has what states, McCain is way behind and he has to win every state that is in question, lose one and he won't make it. I'm in Ohio and I really don't know many McCain supporters. The economy is just too bad.
Even my younger brother who lives in podunkville PA has said he is going to have to vote for Obama even though he doesn't want to. McCain is just to far off base and he can't go that way. This coming from a predjudice person was quite impressive for me. I keep trying to tell him to move out into the real world so he can get over his predjudice but this is a good start!
I have some friends that are strong Catholics and don't usually vote for a democrat because the religion says you cannot vote for a president that agrees with abortion. Well they are ready to jump ship and vote democrat and then confess their sin. I hope this momentum keeps up for the next three weeks because I really don't want to see McCain in office!

Hi Ladies,
Thanks so much for all the thoughts and hugs! It was a very sad day yesterday. Our poor Scooby battled cancer for about a year, and she was old too. So, the vet came out, and we did put her to "sleep" in her bed. I took her out in the morning for a few last rays of sun on this earth, which I think she really was happy for. She always had happy eyes and she took in the sun for a bit. Then I took her back in and she went to bed and then she went on. We stayed by her side the whole time. I kept thinking I heard her last night in the kitchen, and then on the front porch, but it was just my mind. I miss her, but I know she is in a better place where she can run and play again. I just miss her :-(( So,thank you all!
Well, wow...so much has gone on here in the day I've stayed away! I did see where that old woman got up at the McCain convention and said Obama was an Arab and McCain took the mic back from her. Hhhmm..is he surprised that the republicans angry outbursts and lies are actually starting to work on the minds of their supporters? I found it it interesting, and in no way feel that McCain is any better for what he said. Personally, I think he must have felt embarrassed, and rightly so. He and his soccer mom side kick started all of that, and here is where its gotten them. I see there are non positive posts on here for Obama made by some republicans. I'm not surprised at that. I have never looked at their site. No point. We can assume it is as angry as they are on the media and at their conventions. Again, just not worth our energy. Don't let them get to you, remember, that's what they want. They want anger and outbursts. Forget it. We are on a roll and no one is stopping our Obama!!!! Here comes another week..so keep spreading the word!!! Obama '08..its almost here!!!!! :-)

Suz= my comments about Ayers weren't related at your post, they were related on the McCain campaign and its followers who insist on calling Ayers a domestic terrorist. I don't believe that Ayers deserves to have his name slandered as if he's plotting against the US calling Obama to discuss his plans. You mentioned ACORN in a PM and asked for my opinions, but I'm going to put it on here instead. Since when have the poor ever stole an election from the rich? Since when have minorities ever usurped an election from the caucasians? To me a small percentage of fraudulant registrations only becomes a problem if they actually come to vote when then would be a bigger issue. I applaud efforts to get the poor and minorities interested in the electoral process. If the poor banded together they could have political clout and effect their economic concerns. I'm not suggesting the poor or minorities are monolithic groups, just that many share the same issues.
little-g- big mistake in your post-- Palin is a HOCKEY mom (you know, the whole lipstick on a pig thing) not a soccer mom---soccer moms are more respectful so let's nopt diss them
.
What do you guys think of John Lewis's comments? For anyone who doesn't know Lewis, he was instrumental in the civil rights movement and he's someone McCain respects and reveres.
"During another period, in the not too distant past, there was a governor of the state of Alabama named George Wallace who also became a presidential candidate. George Wallace never threw a bomb. He never fired a gun, but he created the climate and the conditions that encouraged vicious attacks against innocent Americans who were simply trying to exercise their constitutional rights. Because of this atmosphere of hate, four little girls were killed on Sunday morning when a church was bombed in Birmingham, Alabama," wrote the Democrat.
I think even the media on the left are reading into those comments what Lewis never said. Lewis never said that McCain was as bad as Wallace, but did condemn tactics sow seeds of hatred. Using buzz words like (palling around with) terrorists has a visceral effect on many Americans, particularly, because it invokes memories of 9/11 and the wrong war in which we've lost over 4000 american soldiers. Lewis was talking about the particular words that can incite violence. Civil rights didn't happen without violence, Unfortunately there is still racism and those who will attack others because of race and I would venture that almost all who think that way are McCain and not Obama supporters simply because they wouldn't support a black candidate. Those buzz words particularly effect low information votersl
Lewis clarified his words, for those who misinterpretted them that his statement "was a reminder to all Americans that toxic language can lead to destructive behavior." Which is more than fair.

Watch.
McCain is getting desperate. Look for big changes in his campaign in the next days. It's his only way to pull it out. He's going to ignore his "handlers" and be a kinder, gentler McCian. He's going "folksy" on us, which may just kill palin, but I wouldn't be surprised if they stop negative ads and go for the longer spots and town hall venues.
He HAS to redefine himself, or it's too late. Maybe it already is. I hope so. But you saw what a comeback he made before the primaries started. Yet, he may be too much in bed with the Rovians now. And people here and around the world are seeing the Palin choice as scary in the event of a crisis.
But I'm not at all ready to conced this thing to Obama, though I do remain optimistic!

Did anyone catch Joe Biden's speech in PA this weekend? I thought he was magnificent, and he's not getting nearly enough press for it.
He told his anecdote about his Dad admonishing him to "get up" after he was knocked down. And he turned it into a rally mantra for our country's crisis situation today. He started cheering, "Get up America! Get up!" What a motivator!
It gave me goose bumps. I really like that guy!

O4P...no offense to the soccer mom's!! My bad! :-)
Anne..Well, I do see this thing going to Obama. I don't care if the angry troll pulls mickey mouse out of his ass, I think its a little to late to see him as coming from any happy place. He keeps moving in a different direction as much as the stock market is. To unpredictable. It's not going to happen. Obama is in!
I did not see Biden's speech, and you are right, very under played as I didn't even know he was giving one! I like him too! They are both exactly what we need now! Anyone who is playing any sort of a race card on this needs to take a good look in the mirror at themselves. This is about what is best for America on a whole...not just the good ol' boys anymore!!
-
I did catch the rally Anne. I grew up in the Scranton area and still have friends there. Biden is very inspiring. Being in Philly I've been hearing about Biden since 2nd grade--- just kidding-- but I've been watching what he does and how he does it on the news for 25 years. I truly believe Biden is a good man at heart, which is important to me.

G- I'm getting an american flag and flying it high on November 5th, Obama's first day as the incumbent US president (fingers crossed). I still think the repubs can pull out a dirty trick, raising the terror alert or finding "intelligence" about so called terrorists. I'm sure all the soccer moms will forgive that horrible slight to them
.
-
I forgot- 98 days until the end of King George's regime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The official count says 99 but I don't count January 20th as a day of his presidency since (hopefully) Obama takes office at noon!
-
O4P...I have a flag pole in my front yard and we have not had one flying for, I can't even tell you how many years now. But...I LOVE your idea!! I am going to do that as well!! I am going to buy one because I KNOW I will be flying it. I agree the the republican's are going to try anything they can put there nasty little minds too. No question. They will not concede to this victory like they will not concede to stopping the war! If it were a closer race, I think we would be right to be worried about them fixing the polls again. However, it is not close and it's not going to get close. I'm sure the angry troll will start going off on his terrorist binge..this is what they are about. Frighten the sheep so they will close ranks! As far as them finding "intelligence"...good luck on that! They haven't found it for 8years now, where's it coming from? His brainwashed flock will probably not waiver far from him, however, anyone with any sense of what is right now, well..I think they will stray from the republican flock and come join us in the real world!
-
G- we're taking back the flag on November 5th because we don't know the america that Bush has tried to make us into- war mongering, divisive, totalitarian... that's not the america I used to be so proud of. On November 5th (or realllly late November 4th) I will be prouder of my country than I ever have been before-- maybe for the first time because I sure understood what Michelle was saying. I might even go out and buy one tomorrow! My old one, that swung a pink ribbon burned in the fire in June, the whole balcony did so it's time to reinvest in optimism and the stars and stripes.
-
lap - are these santa ana winds something? hope you are well out of danger's way with the fires up there...
amy - great idea on the flag, count me in.
susan- if you want to know more about sarah and her aip pals that she has gone so far as to try and install in her administration, google: salon, mark chryson.
anne - i heard obama speak in ohio today and what stuck with me was his remark about how we are spending 10b a month to rebuild iraq and it is time we think about spending 10b a month on rebuilding ohio.
the crowd and i liked that very much.
little ggggggggggg: you betcha we are on a roll, and we are not going to stop!
count down indeed to the end of king george's reign and about fricken time!
what is it with sarahcuda in white all the time now, does she think she can fool us into thinking she is pure and not one that has violated the public trust?
see, i can not make a post without mentioning her....
.......................
-
A sea of flags across America on Nov. 5th. Wouldn't that be a sight!
Laura, it's pretty windy around here but we're far from the fires, thankfully. I actually like the dry air as it lessens my lymphedema. I hadn't noticed Palin's white outifts, but you're right, it's probably a subliminal attempt at purifying her image.
I too felt sorry for her daughter at the hockey game. I hope the music was blaring loud enough down on the ice that she didn't hear the boos. What a bad move on the owner's part.
The us-and-them message from the McCain camp has fallen flat on its face. The polls indicate that people recognize that McCain has made his campaign about Obama bashing instead of McCain praising, and they don't like it. McCain might try Bush's tried-and-true national security scare 'em tactic as a last resort, but I doubt even that will resonate in these troubled economic times. I read a quote from an older woman in Ohio who was voting for Obama and referred to McCain as the incumbent. It just doesn't pay to be a Republican in 2008.

Hi girls,
I haven't had a chance to read through all the latest posts, but I wanted to share an article with you that ran in the Dallas Morning News today (and many newspapers across the country) regarding the truth about the roles of Fannie and Freddie, and the initiatives to provide home-ownership opportunities to minorities and lower income people, in the current crisis. It's a little long, but it's a MUST read! The next time someone tells you that the current meltdown is Clinton's fault (or Carter's fault, according to my hairdresser!) you will be armed with the facts, which tell a very diffrerent story:
http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/53802.html
By David Goldstein and Kevin G. Hall | McClatchy Newspapers
WASHINGTON - As the economy worsens and Election Day approaches, a conservative campaign that blames the global financial crisis on a government push to make housing more affordable to lower-class Americans has taken off on talk radio and e-mail.
Commentators say that's what triggered the stock market meltdown and the freeze on credit. They've specifically targeted the mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which the federal government seized on Sept. 6, contending that lending to poor and minority Americans caused Fannie's and Freddie's financial problems.
Federal housing data reveal that the charges aren't true, and that the private sector, not the government or government-backed companies, was behind the soaring subprime lending at the core of the crisis.
Subprime lending offered high-cost loans to the weakest borrowers during the housing boom that lasted from 2001 to 2007. Subprime lending was at its height from 2004 to 2006.
Federal Reserve Board data show that:
- More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages in 2006 were issued by private lending institutions.
Private firms made nearly 83 percent of the subprime loans to low- and moderate-income borrowers that year.
The "turmoil in financial markets clearly was triggered by a dramatic weakening of underwriting standards for U.S. subprime mortgages, beginning in late 2004 and extending into 2007," the President's Working Group on Financial Markets reported Friday.
Conservative critics claim that the Clinton administration pushed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make home ownership more available to riskier borrowers with little concern for their ability to pay the mortgages.
"I don't remember a clarion call that said Fannie and Freddie are a disaster. Loaning to minorities and risky folks is a disaster," said Neil Cavuto of Fox News.
Fannie, the Federal National Mortgage Association, and Freddie, the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp., don't lend money, to minorities or anyone else, however. They purchase loans from the private lenders who actually underwrite the loans.
It's a process called securitization, and by passing on the loans, banks have more capital on hand so they can lend even more.
This much is true. In an effort to promote affordable home ownership for minorities and rural whites, the Department of Housing and Urban Development set targets for Fannie and Freddie in 1992 to purchase low-income loans for sale into the secondary market that eventually reached this number: 52 percent of loans given to low-to moderate-income families.
To be sure, encouraging lower-income Americans to become homeowners gave unsophisticated borrowers and unscrupulous lenders and mortgage brokers more chances to turn dreams of homeownership in nightmares.
But these loans, and those to low- and moderate-income families represent a small portion of overall lending. And at the height of the housing boom in 2005 and 2006, Republicans and their party's standard bearer, President Bush, didn't criticize any sort of lending, frequently boasting that they were presiding over the highest-ever rates of U.S. homeownership.
Between 2004 and 2006, when subprime lending was exploding, Fannie and Freddie went from holding a high of 48 percent of the subprime loans that were sold into the secondary market to holding about 24 percent, according to data from Inside Mortgage Finance, a specialty publication. One reason is that Fannie and Freddie were subject to tougher standards than many of the unregulated players in the private sector who weakened lending standards, most of whom have gone bankrupt or are now in deep trouble.
During those same explosive three years, private investment banks - not Fannie and Freddie - dominated the mortgage loans that were packaged and sold into the secondary mortgage market. In 2005 and 2006, the private sector securitized almost two thirds of all U.S. mortgages, supplanting Fannie and Freddie, according to a number of specialty publications that track this data.
In 1999, the year many critics charge that the Clinton administration pressured Fannie and Freddie, the private sector sold into the secondary market just 18 percent of all mortgages.
Fueled by low interest rates and cheap credit, home prices between 2001 and 2007 galloped beyond anything ever seen, and that fueled demand for mortgage-backed securities, the technical term for mortgages that are sold to a company, usually an investment bank, which then pools and sells them into the secondary mortgage market.
About 70 percent of all U.S. mortgages are in this secondary mortgage market, according to the Federal Reserve.
Conservative critics also blame the subprime lending mess on the Community Reinvestment Act, a 31-year-old law aimed at freeing credit for underserved neighborhoods.
Congress created the CRA in 1977 to reverse years of redlining and other restrictive banking practices that locked the poor, and especially minorities, out of homeownership and the tax breaks and wealth creation it affords. The CRA requires federally regulated and insured financial institutions to show that they're lending and investing in their communities.
Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote recently that while the goal of the CRA was admirable, "it led to tremendous pressure on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - who in turn pressured banks and other lenders - to extend mortgages to people who were borrowing over their heads. That's called subprime lending. It lies at the root of our current calamity."
Fannie and Freddie, however, didn't pressure lenders to sell them more loans; they struggled to keep pace with their private sector competitors. In fact, their regulator, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, imposed new restrictions in 2006 that led to Fannie and Freddie losing even more market share in the booming subprime market.
What's more, only commercial banks and thrifts must follow CRA rules. The investment banks don't, nor did the now-bankrupt non-bank lenders such as New Century Financial Corp. and Ameriquest that underwrote most of the subprime loans.
These private non-bank lenders enjoyed a regulatory gap, allowing them to be regulated by 50 different state banking supervisors instead of the federal government. And mortgage brokers, who also weren't subject to federal regulation or the CRA, originated most of the subprime loans.
In a speech last March, Janet Yellen, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, debunked the notion that the push for affordable housing created today's problems.
"Most of the loans made by depository institutions examined under the CRA have not been higher-priced loans," she said. "The CRA has increased the volume of responsible lending to low- and moderate-income households."
In a book on the sub-prime lending collapse published in June 2007, the late Federal Reserve Governor Ed Gramlich wrote that only one-third of all CRA loans had interest rates high enough to be considered sub-prime and that to the pleasant surprise of commercial banks there were low default rates. Banks that participated in CRA lending had found, he wrote, "that this new lending is good business."

Donna, thanks for sharing the article. I heard Goldstein discussing it on Rachel Maddow's radio show a few minutes ago. I hope it gets some attention, but the demon dye may already be cast as far as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are concerned. The real concern is that people are going to scapegoat minorities. Maybe Obama can bring it up during the debate, or during his 30-minute spot.
-
LAP- The sea of flags should be could be just like it was after 9/11. Spread the word for everyone to fly the american flag on Nov 5th after we have taken back our country.Did you see the tape of Obama admonishing the crowd for booing McCain? I think he's already starting to pull people together? While polls indicate the undecideds and independents don't like the Obama bashing, it's clear that his crowds do. I think Obama people, by in large, are nicer folks than the McCain folks. Just look at the trolls who come on this thread to attack us, we're more respectful than that.
-
I was getting tx today and read this article in Newsweek about a Palin interview with Katie couric and Couric asked a question on the econmy and Palin danced all around the question with key words she was taught to memorize and said absolutely nothing! The more I see her the more I don't like her. At first her enthusiam was catchy and I thought she might have been a decent choice but as time goes on and on she couldn't have been a worse choice. We have troopergater, then she uses her children in her campaigning. Her kids are not going to hold office she is and personally what kind of a parent has those kids out these ungodly hours? Why aren't they at home? Shouldn't they be in school? Then how much of a role will Todd try to play in our gov't if she were to make it in office? He was quite effective in making his way into the Alaskan gov't.
They did tone her down today, not sure she knew how to speak with her leash tightened today. I didn't notice the white til you all mentioned it, but the irony of all of this is the person running for office is McCain not Palin and the one we hear the most about is Palin. What is up with that.
Then my next concern comes to health. The man is 72 and has had melanomas about 7 times now???? What if something happens to him, is she really who we want running our country? Thats when the residents of the US will be yelling RUN BABY RUN!!!!!
-
I dont get to watch alot of television/news channels. Usually when I get home from work I turn them on, but by that time its old news for my DH. I was watching yesterday and saw a clip from speech that Palin gave. Apparently she miss understood what her "fans" were yelling. Stopped her speech and said some nasty back to them. Her own loyal fans! Almost reminds me of a dictator.
I did see where Obama stopped the crowd from booing. He is a gentleman thats for sure. Also heard that MCCain will change what he is doing for what is it now the umteenth time? He changes his mind faster than I can blink. All of a sudden he is going to be the nice guy!
LuAnn, I have to agree with you - but it's not just the melanoma's that scare me. It his age (yes I know age discrimination). So many companies make people retire at 65 so why is it we are willing to have a president who is older? I have seen him have difficulty pulling out words, have seen tremors, and have a difficult time dealing with stress in general. He made a huge mistake picking Palin. Even some Republican Politicians are having issues with her.
Usually when I want to know what is going on, I come and read here. Find out so many things. I see there is a discussion going on about McCains health care plans and taxing health care benefits. Most people dont work for fortune 500 companies. I know that my employers would be delighted not to offer health insurance as it is costly to them now without the added taxes McCain is talking about. I pay 7,000.00 dollar are year for insurance. Can you imagine what it would be if I were taxed?
If someone with a small business is concerned about Obama then it makes me wonder. $250,000 thousand dollars a year is alot of money to me. I would be living the good life shall I say?
Some have actually said to me they understand why I like Obama and a democrat will always vote democrat no matter what. Well those of you who know me from the get go on this political thread - I was a Hillary fan all the way. I like to consider myself an independent and it took me along time to weigh in everything before I made my decision. When I see Obama, I see change. When I see McCain I see an angry old man with a rattlesnake for a side kick.

This was a response to an Obama rally invitation in Philly. Thought I'd share it. And if I ever figure out how to put pictures on this site....my sister took a picture of me donned in my Obama Biden tee shirt in front of the PAX garden at the Cathederal of St. Francis in Assis.
On Oct 10, 2008, at 12:22 PM, Marilyn Blundin wrote:
Good morning people!
I can't make the event sorry to say....sounds like another Woodstock in the making. But Jacqui will be home in time....I dropped her at the airport this morning.
We spent two days in Assisi. I wore my Obama Biden shirt. This picture was taken in front of the Cathederal of St. Francis. (Unfortunately we aren't great photographers, thus washed out names!) I requested a mass be said for Barak Obama and Joe Biden. The Frier who took the request smiled broadly and helped me to fill out the paper. Maybe I'll send a copy to the campaign along with the prayer cards. St. Francis was another guy who wanted the world to change.
And you can't imagine how many people gave me "thumbs up" or "hope your man wins" or "go Obama" or smiles and affirmative head nods from "the locals".
We ran into an American nun, Sister Karen a missionary, at San Damiano who was pleased to see the shirt. Jacqui shared names of friends they both knew...it was nice.
When we stopped to eat pranzo (lunch) the young man said "I'm American/Italian too--we need to get our vote in this week". I encouraged him strongly not to forget. I told him that I mailed mine last week...special delivery.
Later along the way I came by two women, one speaking English asking an Italian directions to a restaurant. The Italian was doing her best to explain that she didn't speak English...but the lady persisted. I asked if I could be of help. Relieved to hear English she asked for a "good restaurant". I explained that I lived in Italy and I directed her to the one I had just left. I told her to tell the young man that "the lady in the Obama shirt sent her". She retorted, "I'd never use that name!" The young lady with her (maybe her daughter) raised both arms in the air and said "I WILL". I thanked her and left. Such is life.
Best wishes to all,
MarilynSt. Francis was a man who bucked the tides of the times and his family to support the poor and peace. He wasn't always a "saint" in the sense of "ever perfect"....but a damn nice human being....

Madalyn,
I know how it feels to live in a state that the candidates don't feel it necessary to campaign in - everybody just expects Texas to vote red. But, this time has been different! Obama ads on TV, during NFL games, NASCAR races, in primetime on the major channels.
-
mad - amazing mccain has to go to indiana to shore up support this late in the game. desperate?
donna - the popular vote is going to give obama a huge mandate hopefully.
looking good...eye on the prize!

Blundin- what a great story!
Ladies- I need your help. I got home from purchasing my flag for November 5th to find something extremely disturbing at my house. I rent an apartment in an old farm house. There are 2 tenants and store on the bottom floor. There was big friggin McCain/Palin sign on the front of the house, taller than me. I felt sick in the pit of my stomach- I knew my landlord thought McCain was muslim despite what I told her but I never thought they'd torture me with this hate. My first thought was vandalism, but since I don't want to be evicted or arrested- I draw the line of activism there, but I nixed that. Then I thought of getting a competing sign, but I can't get hold of anyone from the office... any suggestions before Iose my mind? I really am sick about this.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden: The Change We Need | West Philadelphia for Obama
O4P..the above is the link for the official Obama site. Maybe you can find something on here and let them know what's up? Don't let the Troll sign get to you. That's their mission...anger!! Don't let them! They have run this country on the "scared and angry" platform for WAY to long! If you have to look at it, just smile! You know we are going to win!! Here in Portland yesterday two kids were just sentenced for throwing a molly tov cocktail at a troll sign, it was a huge yard sign also. Now,I can see where it's disgusting to look at everyday. I understand that! However, we must not stoop to their level. Be like Barack!! Get hold of the Obama campaign and tell them you need a sign!! The sheep can display as many troll signs as they like...but he's still an angry troll! And he still only has his small flock of angry and scared sheep that follow him. I'm just sorry they happen to live in the same home as you!! :-)

I was checking out the local news today and Palin is coming to my area to speak this week. In fact she will be about 15 miles from my house. I was thinking about going to the speech. Although 11:30 am on a weekday is not a good time to reach the people who work. Anyway, you have to contact the repub party to get a ticket to see her. This is going to be an outdoor speech.
I personally want to watch her screw up and maybe boo a little bit. Then when she asks me to thank our service members for their service which allows me to boo I'll let her know what my son is truly doing in Iraq and how the gov't hides what happens over there and see what she has to say. Maybe I can even take picture with me of his living conditions. No showers at all, he said maybe once a week he can get a shower in the sand.....they have one port a potty for when you need to do your business and a tube that is dug into the sand for when they have to pee. Hope they have good aim. I wonder if she is aware of these wonderful living conditions our soldiers are living in overseas that our wonderful repub president felt the need to get us involved in.
hmmm...I just might contact the repubs to get my ticket then go get my obama sign to take with me.
-
O4P:
I agree with you that it would be disturbing. However, I doubt there is much you can do if you're only renting and the owner is the one who put the sign out. Also, the landlord has as much of a right to express his or her political views as we all do. I doubt it's a sign of hate. My family lives in kind of an apparently very Republican/conservative neighborhood and have had to put up with all the McCain/Palin signs when walking the dogs or driving through, and it isn't pleasant. Yet I don't feel hated; I just feel like we have different political ideals. Of course you know more about your landlord than I do, so maybe that's why you call it that. I still wouldn't vandalise them because if I don't want my signs vandalised, I have to allow others the same respect. If you can't find someone to send you an Obama sign maybe you could make a handmade one. I think you would have a really a good argument in that you have the right to express yourself too so hopefully he or she won't remove it, even though it would technically be on their property.
I thought McCain showed a lot of class standing up to that crazy woman. It made me feel a little better but that certainly wasn't enough to change my vote. I'm even bratty enough to wonder if it was staged, like lets make McCain look like a hero (again). I think Bristol's fiancee speaking to the media was hysterical and only made them look even more stupid. Why did he have to quit high school and then drive away in a gas guzzling Silverardo truck when both their families obviously have so much money and are being "supportive" of the baby to be?
But back to Obama; he just keeps impressing me more and more each day because he doesn't ever get bitchy about these things (like I do--but they just make it so easy!) and keeps maintaining that presidential stance and graciousness I sincerely hope we (and especiallly our children) have to look forward to. I would love to have a leader representing us that we can respect and trust.
I forgot to add this earlier: Obama shutting down the boos against McCain during his speech showed amazing dignity! I liked the idea of using your vote instead of being rude.

Thanks for the advice. I finallyt got hold of the campaign. I had the number from volunteering but no one was answering and I was getting madder and madder at the McCain brainwashers. They brought me over a lawn sign for my deck and signs for each of my windows and that makes the extreme distaste a little less.
I do believe the sign is one of hate because of what one of my landlords said a few months ago. She told me Obama was muslim and so was reverend wright. I politely told her why she was mistaken and she went into a tirade that blacks and muslims were all the same and who does that uppity Michelle Obama think she is. I was so furious but I like my apartment. With the fire and all the upheaval afterwards I forgot about what she said-- I was more interested in what she was saying about finishing my apartment. The sign was like a bad flashback to all the hatred I've heard from the McCain rallies. I always say I don't know people like that, but I guess I do and I hate that I do.
Hopefully with Obama's education initiatives more people will go to college and be exposed to diversity. That way even if they don't choose to support a candidate ;like Obama at least it will come from a place of intelligent deductive reasoning based on facts and not prejudice and taking emails and tv ads as fact.
I feel like Rachel Maddow on her talk me down segment. LOL.

Blundin, thanks for sharing your Italian Obama story! I loved it. Just read that Dennis Hopper has endorsed Obama in Paris, admitting sheepishly that Bush has been bad for America and that that Michael Moore-bashing movie he was in, American Carol, was a stinker. The tide has definitely turned.
LuAnn, I'm very sorry to hear about your son's living conditions. It's shocking to me that even in an election year, when you think they'd want to clean up their act, they continue to treat the troops so poorly. What exactly are we spending $10 billion a month on anyway?
Amy, I remember you mentioning the unpleasant comments that your landlord made about Obama months ago. In addition to your new signs, maybe you could loudly sing "We Shall Overcome" every time you pass by the McCain sign.
We see hardly any presidential ads on TV in LA. I guess I should be grateful, although there are times when I feel out of the loop not living in a battleground state. What we have been getting ad nauseum lately are ads pertaining to the gay marriage amendment. The anti-gay marriage folks are trotting out their fear-based ads like crazy. One has a little girl showing her mom a book she got at school, saying something like, mommy, this book says I can marry a princess some day! The mother looks horrified. Yes, the gays want to teach homosexuality to little kids and MAKE THEM GAY TOO! It's a slippery slope, you know. First comes marriage, then comes total domination.
Are we taking bets on whether McCain actually brings up Ayers during the debate as he has sworn to do? He almost has to now, but you know Obama will have a good response ready to go. Did anyone read the Parade magazine comparison about their tax plans? I was glad to see a conservative, middle America publication like Parade setting the record straight on Obama's tax proposals.
