Katie and felicia- I wish you were still here. I checked the septa schedules and don't think I can get there in one piece. When I went to the rally at the Wynwoood train station in the spring, I had a car and I was in special seating for the disabled (I use a cane and have trouble standing) and I still almost passed out from the heat and waiting. It was quite embarrassing.

Troopergate- Palin broke the law, which was obvious to me from the news leaks I had been hearing. I must say that I am heartened to hear that a republican run bipartisan commission was not swayed by partisan politics. The woman is a hypocrite, which we already knew. The part I disagree with in the report is that she had legitimate reasons for firing the Monegan-- because he didn't want to charge rape victims for their rape kits? She can hire and fire at will, but she needed to remove herself from the situation for even the appearances of impropriety.

What does all of this say about McCain's judgment? He supposedly knew about this before he chose her. He "can't wait to bring her to washington" to clean things up? What a joke. Note to McCain, I don't think that's being a maverick, I think that's being a lunatic.

In other breaking news- McCain admits that Obama isn't an arab terrorist and says people don't need to fear Obama. Too little, too late? Perhaps, but the shades of the McCain I used to respect did come out.

One more thought--- how can we, as Obama supporters reach out our hands to the McCain supporters. The unity this country needs to get past partisan politics in order to tackle the horrible problems we face with the economy and 2 wars. I have a bad distaste in my mouth for the republicans who are race baiting. There are some repubs here, like Shokk, who I respect as someone who I have fundamental basic differences, but I understand where she's coming from even when I disagree.  There will be some who have stated they will never participate in bipartisanship or respect an Obama presidency using fear mongering  racism and those to me are lost causes.

On a totally frivolous and unrelated note-  someone needs to get the ticket's daughters some better fitting bras. This is very distracting and not in an attractive way. Paging Victoria's Secret...

Well, John McCain has finally said at one of his rallies that Obama is a good American, a decent man, and McCain's supporters shouldn't fear an Obama presidency!!!  Some in the audience applauded, but some booed!!!

The Troopergate report was released in Alaska, and it concludes that Sarah Palin abused her power as Governor!

Oliver Clark, the young man who asked how the bailout helps the average citizen and was told by John McCain that Clark had "probably never heard of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac before" has spoken out about McCain's mis-apprehension -- Clark has a Master's in Legal Studies, a few years of law school, and is currently working on a second Master's in Public Administration -- so his formal education, at least, surpasses that of McCain and Palin... Undecided

    Have a great weekend, everybody!

Amy and Laura -- looks like we were posting some of the same news at the same time.

But I was unaware of the undergarment issue with the candidates' offspring -- ROFL!

Ann fortuantely the undergarment issue seems to only pertain to the female offspring Wink.  Look back on Bristol's need for a better bra at the republican convention, Willow's over the past week and Megan McCain's  in the gray dress today or yesterday--- yikes.

You girls are so funny concerning the undergarments.  hehehe   I never bothered to notice.

Wish I could be at the Mayfair Diner too.,... I love to order their fresh squeezed orange juice for breakfast and I know the girls dislike the extra step of making it... but it is good!  I'm sure they'll have plenty on hand for Obama.  I always eat there when I come back to visit..   Oh... and Charlie's pizza on the Boulevard and Adams anyone?  It is the best pizza in Phillie.  :)

O4Pres...good question about how to reach out to the republican supporters.  My brother is a republican.  I find by not being over bearing and just stating the facts is much better than combating him.  They are on a side that is going no where, and I think alot of them are coming to that conclusion.  So, maybe by just being understanding?  However, some of them will never change, and will remain closed minded.  I also wanted to say thanks for starting this thread!  It's so great to have a place to go to voice our support and not get slammed!!

On another note..I am putting my 13 year old dog down tomorrow.  :-(  I know its for the best..but its just sad.  I'm having a hard time with it tonight.  knowing she is sleeping in her bed for the last night. :-(

ann - too funny..we were all typing away.. i thought that was wise of mccain to say and it did remind me also of the old mccain, amy. the hate mongering has to stop.

the fact that sarah stirs it up and just smiles, does not look presidential.

we love fox news today, barack is up 9 points in their polling.

With so much hate, fear and racism being stirred up by the Palin and McCain campaign, I find myself praying that BO has the best security to protect him.  Then I see him so relaxed with big crowds, and I worry...

God help us if some redneck a$$hole gets his 15 minutes of fame.

I guess I should be happy that I am no longer worried about *if* he'll get elected.  BO is a lock now,

Ah, Little G, I am so sorry you have to put your 13 year old furbaby to sleep tomorrow. I know how hard that is, as in the past few years, we have had to put down one dog and 4 cats. On one of the other threads they talk about the Rainbow Bridge, and that we will meet all our pets there. Not sure if I believe that, but I would love to see my pets in the next life. They always loved me no matter what!

Yes, I thought that was great when McCain told that woman he wasn't an Arab, and that he was a good family man, and a decent man. I gained a little respect back for him (but not enough to vote for him).

Anyone see the Oct. 13th New Yorker? Some great articles. There's a good one on the working class in our country, and how they were sold a pile of goods by the Republicans just to get their votes. And the Republicans could really care less about whether they survive or not. The article states that (at least the author believes this) the Republican agenda is one to improve the rich's largesse and it will trickle down, even though they know it won't work! The Machaevillian Karl Rove I'm sure had his hand in this. The article also talks about the Democrats, and that they need to do a better job of showing the working class that they are the party for them, and that the working class should come over to that side and work to change how this country operates, both in government & business.

    Several other good articles also.

I have my absentee ballot ready to fill out. I think I will deliver it personally to the courthouse, so I am sure my vote will be counted. I hope there isn't some horrible voter fraud going on that affects the election and keeps some people from voting! Hard to trust sometimes!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm glad you guys heard McCain.  He is not causing racial divide and neither is his running mate.  And we Republicans are not race baiting.  We, over ------------------------------------> have nothing against Senator Obama because of his race.  It is his politics.

Thanks, Amy.  You really do want to bring republicans and dems together, right?  Way to go girl!

What a crass "statement."  Also, immature.  I have one boob.  I wonder what people would say if didn't wear a bra with a prosthesis in it.

I hope you don't mind that I crashed your party.  I thought I'd just hop over here for a minute like some of you do over --------------------------------->.  I know I'm not welcome.  I thought, Well, darn!  Amy wants to reconcile with the republicans....but then I read on and found out she really wasn't serious.

And, yes, Senator McCain was a class act today.  He always has been and always will be.  He's honest, full of integrity, and he doesn't sway every which way the wind blows.

Good nite ladies.  It certainly is past my bedtime.

G- I'm so sorry about your dog. My cats are my heart and I truly empathize with you today. I am and will be thinking about you today.

djd- I've had the same concerns but hesitated to write them out since some of the rhetoric has been written on these boards in other threads is pretty out there and frightening. While McCain finally stepped up to the plate today and cleared up some of the misconceptions his campaign has been stoking, I don't believe he should get high praise for doing the right thing especially when McCain is running terrorism ads and Palin is stoking her fans about the topic.

I talked to lady suz last night, she's going to one of Obama's rallies today. I wish I could have met up with her but w/o the car it just wasn't possible. She promised to call me and tell me how it was.

summer, obama is cute and his family is gorgeous. I can see them in the white house, although not from my backyard.

I am a Canadian watching this election with great interest.  I have been reading both sides of the argument on this site and am quite shocked by some of the behavior.  Don't get me wrong, I do not profess that 'we Canandians' don't pander to some hateful political rhetoric.  The thing is, most of the world doesn't pay attention to us anyways. ( For example, did you even know that we had an election called last month and are heading to the polls on Tuesday?)

What I find so shocking is the stories that are being posted on the 'other' site.  I am obviously not a democrat or republican so my emotions are much less tied to this debate.  However, one of the reasons that I chose to post here is because the other thread scares the crap out of me.

So far, Obama has been labelled the 'anti-Christ', a terrorist and/or a socialist (I think this means the same thing to some people) and now there is the belief that not only did he not attend university at all, but that he has been embedded in university communities in some devious plot to take over the USA.  And some of the behavior at the rallies is completely out of the 60's.  It seems like you cannot have a disagreement about politics without bringing hate and fear into the forum.

And just to give you an outsiders point of view, most of the Canadians I have spoken with are beyond disbelief that Sarah Palin is even being considered to be the VP.  I am sure she has some redeeming qualities, but so far, to the international world, she comes across as wet behind the ears and very, very, undiplomatic.  She is the poster child for the 'dumbing down of America' that other parts of this world see as happening in the US recently.

Although I said earlier that I am obviously neither Dem or Rep, in writing this I guess I would have to say that if I were an American I would probably be voting Dem at this point.

I hope my comments are not seen as anything more than they are.  Just though you might be interested in an 'outsider's' view.

Little G, just wanted to send my condolences on the loss of your puppy.  Losing them is so hard.

PIP, I always enjoy hearing "outsider" views of American politics.  I imagine our elections must seem totally whacked to many foreigners--the amount of time and money that's invested, the media scene, the emphasis on appearance and word parsing, etc.   Doesn't look like we're going to reform our ways anytime soon, though.  And you're right . . . I had no idea there were elections going on in Canada.  Sorry!

I appreciated McCain's call to reason yesterday.  He did seem deflated and saddened by it all.  Apparently Palin's still out there doing her thing, however, despite yesterday's ruling about Troopergate.  As soon as she used the word "terrorist" she gave her tinfoil hat followers permission to express their ugliest, least rational fears.  I don't know if the campaign can put that genie back in the bottle at this point.  I hope McCain continues to speak out against it.  I too fear for Obama's safety.  It only takes one nutjob with a gun.  I just hope his kids aren't aware of what's going on.

Wow, I'm ready for this election to be over too!

prettyinpink I appreciate reading your comments.  I live in this country and believe this election is so far out of control.  I just can't imagine what the rest of the world thinks of us.  To think there is another month of this insanity.  I didn't even get into reading these political threads until recently when I decided I needed to pay more attention to what these two candidates have to say to be sure I vote the right way this year.  Normally I just pick the person in my party I registered to vote in and called it a day.  This time with the state of our country I had to pay attention and I am embarrassed by Sarah Palin, as the comment was she is "dumbing up" of America doesn't even give just justice to how terrible of a candidate she is.  I listen to her speaking about Obama and his untruthfulness, in light of troopergate she has no room to speak!  How dare she critisize this man while she is being accused of using her political influenece to have someone she didn't like fired.  With her and the angry old white man in the highest office in the land I can't imagine what will happen to foreign diplomats they don't like.  Heck we will be at war with the entire world if they make it to office.

Ok, enough of my rambling, guess I should turn off CNN but I keep getting more and more upset the more I listen....

"Here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators," Palin told the Republican convention, "I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion; I'm going to Washington to serve the people..."

What, serve the people more abuse of power and violation of public trust? Sounds like more of the same to me.

If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

Laurap, that's got to be the BEST line I've heard yet!!

Like PIP, I'm a northern neighbour who is simply aghast at the crap that's being thrown around by the losing side, hoping, as they say, some of it will stick.  I do check up on these political threads, out of both curiosity and grave concern.  What happens in the U.S. does affect other countries, and we do have a vested interest in your election outcome.

One often wonders how some of the more outrageous rumours get started.  It would seem that radio phone-in programs start a good many of them.  And the biggest problem is that so many listeners don't have the good sense to question the veracity of those who call in.  This latest one, about the FBI showing up at some person's door after she told a Dem canvasser that she was going to vote Repub is just too far out of the park.  And yet, you can bet that this will quickly race along the Repub grapevine, until it becomes as "factual" as that Obama is a Muslim.

Yes, we're having a federal election this coming week and, while negative attack ads have started to creep in, at least our party leaders show a great deal of respect for each other.  I'm so hoping that the pendulum has swung far enough out in your election this year that -- in 4 years' time -- respect and honesty will become treasured words once again.

Good luck to you (and to all of us).  Linda

McCain's plea for nice-nice didn't really wash with me. For one, it's too little too late, after all the nastiness he's dislayed. There's an intersting uTube out there with McCain and wife saying he'd rather lose than go negative, that negativity wasn't his style. Whoops. Who's wearing flip-flops?

Second, I think the only reason McCain came out with that change of pace and words was that the polls show that he's trailing, and that the American people, as a whole, are fed up with nastiness. He's the king of nasty, by the way. Read this month's Rolling Stone. He has been heard to call his wife the c-word.

Third, by still focusing on personalities, he won't confront the BIG issue out there--the economy.

Fourth, he has to be able to reign in his pit bull Palin and her nastiness. Will he tolerate the terrorist chides when they are campaigning side by side? I doubt it.

On the brighter side, I got my mail-in ballot today. I am so psyched to cast my vote for Barak Obama!!

Oh, and Amy, your plea to work together with out repub brethren is a great thought, but I don't think it will happen before the election. This has gotten so emotional that rational talk goes out the window. At least for my repub friends. They don't want to hear any part of what I have to say. And, I admit, I have little tolerance for their views, either.

To me, we just need to keep hitting the issues, to know both candidates' platforms, so we can pound away, just like Barak does in the debates.

What do you think about John Lewis's statement comparing McCain to George Wallace?

I think it's about time someone call the McCain campaign, and by default McCain on the race baiting tactics they've been using. Maybe this will give McCain pause to show some leadership and reign in his campaign.

Anne, I agree that McCain's plea for sanity comes a little late.  I don't think he's the nicest guy in the world, but I do suspect he's personally dismayed at the craziness his campaign has unleashed.  Since he was himself a victim of a smear campaign, I think somewhere in his psyche he knows it's wrong.   I heard, too, that other Republican candidates are expressing concern about the tenor of McCain's campaign, as it's having a bad trickle-down effect on their congressional races.  So it's possible that McCain also spoke up to minimize the collateral damage.

I don't think Palin is at all contrite, however.  She seems to be reveling in the emotions she's stirring up and oblivious to the fact that her "negatives" keep growing.  I think she'll be lucky if she still has a career in Alaska politics after all this is over.  I'm sure Alaskans will be paying more attention to everything she does from here on out.

Have you guys seen this one:

    Little-G:

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and your family concerning your "best friend" who I'm sure had a wonderful life with you.  I hope that she goes peacefully and that you will find comfort in her memories.

With all of the bickering back and forth between the candidates, I would love to see a political party open up about the animal abuse that is going on in this country and what they are going to do to change it.  Between the puppy mills, factory farming where the animals never touch the ground but are in cages from birth until death, the torturing of chickens, etc..... nobody wants to touch this topic or say that they will get involved to put an end to the needless suffering of animals.   Sorry to rant and rave and thanks for listening.
