The Respectfully Republican Conversation

Suzfive, that was a good video. No wonder it was pulled...can't tell the truth.
-
Suz--- That is a redacted version of the video. It has been scrubbed by NBC----NBC caved to pressure and cleaned it up especially Barny Franks part in the mess.........
"In an interview with Gold, the show’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, said the Sandlers were distraught but had not demanded the changes. He noted the “People who should be shot” line was deleted as was a reference to their “corrupt activities.”
But a comparison of the two versions shows that actually a little more than that was cut. What also was excised was any mention of the involvement of Massachusetts’ Rep. Frank in the Sandler subprime mess…
In the original skit Sandler addresses Frank, saying, “And thank you Congressman Frank as well as many Republicans for helping block Congressional oversight of our corrupt activities.”
To which Frank replies enthusiastically, “Not at all!”
The disappeared snippet comes near the end, right after Marion Sandler tells Pelosi it’s delightful to see her. Malcolm seems to hint that they’re letting Frank off the hook, but the GOP’s also blamed in that exchange and, as Michaels says, they were obviously worried about accusing the Sandlers of “corrupt activities.” How were they supposed to get rid of that without cutting the lines about Frank?"
The original version can be seen here intact and unedited!....
-
Susie - I didn't realize it was "cleaned up" - wow the full version is really something. I have heard that the Sandlers are not very happy.

Jersey,
I had a bad reaction to the debate last night also. I blame the format. There should have been more time to answer the other candidate and challenge him. Instead they had those 1 minute questions from Brokaw that had nothing to do with what they were just talking about. I just didn't like it. Though they said millions tuned in to it. Some things needed a fuller explanation, and I didn't see them doing that.
I was listeing to Sarah and McCain talking today in PA, and that put me back into a better mood. It was a better format for the both of them. Of course Fox lost the connection just when McCain was getting into the nitty gritty of details. Anyway, I'm in a far better mood now then I was earlier.
Neil Cavuto was on saying we didn't buy the foreclosed mortgages in the bail-out plan. I thought we did. So now I understand why McCain was saying we need to help those homeowners. I know, not everyone here agrees, but I'd rather help a homeowner then anyone at AIG, especially after they took a half a million dollar weekend for a select few at the firm. Everything is so out of control. We need McCain to slap some sense into these free spenders on Wall ST. and in the congress. And throw the lobbyists out.

This is how I look at this election. Any one of our companies who do business globally, can take their company to a better tax environment at any given time. We've seen them do it. Let's take an example of Exxonmobil. They are so global, they could be gone to tax friendly shores in a minute. Yet Obama likes to point to them and make it very unfriendly for them to headquarter here. With them goes the revenues. Yes, they will still have to pay taxes for what they produce and sell here in the American market, but I don't know what we tax them on for profits they make in other countries. It could be a sizable amount of lost revenues. Or I could know nothing of what I speak of. I'm certainly no tax pro.
We also make it very unfriendly for them to drill here. We tell them where they can drill, but everyone of those sites have a lawsuit filed to prevent drilling. I got that info from a Senator talking on the radio. Some of these lawsuits are pending in the courts for almost 9 years already. Very disappointing news. Any new drilling legislation will have to have a lawsuit clause in it, to prevent a suit from lasting for years with continuances. Just a side note.
But if I am right, and we make it unfriendly to other corporations as in the taxing plans of what Obama wants to do, then we can see a dismal future before us all. And all the slick talk in the world won't make it any better.
-
The format of the debate last night was supposed to be town hall but it really wasn't. It would have been better if they had more time to answer and go back and forth. It would have been better I think if they could have called on random people in the audience instead of having the questions written out beforehand and then picked by Tom Brokaw. He looked really tired.
I do not think you can believe anything that Obama says - he is just saying it to win the election. After the election it will be a different story. Just like he was anti-NAFTA and then when called out on it by Canada his campaign said that it was just "politics". I would not be surprised if he wins that some small businesses will close or new small businesses set themselves up to use only independent contractors so they do not have to provide any benefits.
-
Perhaps this is just "amusing"? This was sent to me by a good Southern Baptist in Kentucky, so don't shoot the messenger, please!
This will make you re-think: A Trivia question in Sunday School:
How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelations?
Revelations Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is.
Almoste a four-year term of a Presidency.
All I can say is 'Lord, Have mercy on us!'
According to the The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is: The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40's, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal..... the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything.
Do we recognize this description??

Careful Pansy <----------------------------------- over there will have all kinds of poobah to say about that one! LOL!
-
Shirley...hope your BP doesn't go up too high over this one! I would love to know which house Pelosi is speaker of cause it sure as H*** isn't mine! Maybe we should just go ahead and file bankruptcy as a country like Iceland is contemplating cause when this broad is through we will need too!
By COLLEEN SLEVIN, Associated Press Writer 21 minutes ago
DENVER - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday that a $150 billion economic stimulus plan is needed now because of the faltering economy and she may call the House into session after the election to pass it.
ADVERTISEMENT Pelosi told reporters that the stock market meltdown, which has caused an estimated $2 trillion loss from pension funds, was a factor in her recommendation for a second stimulus bill. The first relief plan sent out $600-$1,200 tax rebate checks to most individuals and couples this year.
The House did pass a $61 billion economic aid proposal last month before lawmakers left Capitol Hill ahead of the Nov. 4 election. But a similar plan failed to pass the Senate. President Bush had promised a veto anyway.
If Democratic nominee Barack Obama wins the White House and if Capitol Hill Democrats make gains in the elections as well, it might be easier to pass a stimulus measure over dispirited Republicans, especially if the economy remains in big trouble.
The Senate is expected to be back at work after Election Day to complete a public lands bill and perhaps deal with other matters, such as a measure to extend unemployment benefits. The House also could return to consider a stimulus plan and additional issues in a lame-duck session before the newly elected Congress takes over in January.
"We may have to go back into session before the next Congress," Pelosi said.
Pelosi said a stimulus package would create jobs by investing in public works, increasing food stamps benefits and extending unemployment insurance for the long-term jobless. She said lawmakers need to "hunker down" and look closely at the federal budget for possible savings, and reconsider whether the U.S. can afford to fight "a war without end" in Iraq.
"We have some very harsh decisions to make and some of them can't wait until January," said Pelosi, D-Calif.
"What we can't wait for is a stimulus package," Pelosi added. "We may have to go back into session before the next Congress."
-
Pelosi may want to save the money because if the market keeps falling we might have to bolster it with funds which is what Hoover failed to do in '29. I'm happy she wants to own the personal repair to individuals who are suffering. Now let's get them to own up to the reason why we're here today. Barney Frank, and friends need to own up to the part they played in this crisis. An investigation needs to happen.

Pansy - I had heard that message was going around but had not actually read it or seen it. Oh goodness, the description is chilling.
As for Obama, he scares me with his socialistic views. You know, socialism and communism are too similar. If he is elected, we are in trouble. Who in their right mind would want to sit down with terrorist for a dialogue? He comes accross so arragant and full of himself. He probably thinks he is larger than God. JMO

I am forever complaining about vicious emails from rabid Obama supporters slandering Hillary, McCain and lately, Palin-----
Frankly, this prophecy stuff ranks right up there with them.
No question I have my differences with Obama, but they are policy and judgment issues.
This kind of stuff doesn't belong here. JMHO
-
Thanks Susie. I wrote this before reading yours, but will post anyway.
Barack Obama is not a socialist, and I should know: I am a socialist, and proud of it! And stop with the communism! You sound like Joe McCarthy, may he not rest in peace.
Those of you who have "chills" thinking that Obama is the anti-Christ, I'd suggest you close your computers and open a book--preferably the Bible. What you should all know--taught in most grammar schools, even in my Catholic school as far back as the 50's--is that Muhammad is a 7th Century religious figure and Islam originated with Muhammad. A bit late for the Bible! I'm wondering if making up stuff and attributing it to the Bible is not, in fact, blasphemy, to be punished you know where!
Here is some information about the Book of Revelation, which you can easily find on the internet as I did.
To reach our findings, we read the Book of Revelation and interviewed two religious scholars. Here's what we found:
• The word “anti-christ” does not appear in the Book of Revelation.
“The word Antichrist is not used in the Book of Revelation so this is important to point out,” said Dr. James D. Tabor, professor and chair of the religious studies department at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. “Everybody thinks the word is used.”
That’s a pretty big hole in this e-mail from the get-go. We didn’t find the word in reading the text and our second scholar confirms this critical point.
“First and foremost, the word Antichrist and a figure called the Antichrist never occurs in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament,” said Dr. L. Michael White, professor of classics and religious studies at the University of Texas and director of the Institute for the Study of Antiquity and Christian Origins.
Now, some people interpret characters in the Book of Revelation to be the Antichrist even though the text doesn’t use this word. Specifically, in Chapter 13 there is a beast “having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy” that some consider to be an allusion to the Antichrist.
“It’s only in Chapter 13 and you could almost miss it,” Tabor said.
But among biblical scholars and historians, there is strong consensus that none of the strange, evil-sounding characters in the Book of Revelation actually represents the Antichrist.
“It wasn’t there in the Bible,” White said. “It emerges in the Middle Ages. It’s something historians deal with.”
Now the word Antichrist does appear a few times in other books of the Bible, specifically in First John and Second John. The description in First John, Chapter 4, verse 3 says: “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
• There’s no mention of a man of a certain age.
The Book of Revelation talks of God, Jesus Christ, John, spirits, Jezebel, a beast like a calf, a beast like a flying eagle, elders, a great red dragon and many more animals and people. But nowhere does it describe “a man, in his 40s,” as the e-mail alleges.
“As you notice, there’s nothing about being age 40,” Tabor said. “This is completely wrong. The Book of Revelation doesn’t say that. It says it’s a male, so I guess they got that right. It says ‘he,’ ‘he,’ ‘he.’ ”
• There’s no mention of the word “Muslim.”
Considering the Bible was completed by the early second century, and the religion of Islam wasn’t founded until the early 600s, it’s not surprising that the word Muslim (the name for followers of Islam) does not appear in the Book of Revelation.
So it’s this part of the e-mail, where it says the Antichrist will be a man “of Muslim descent,” that our religious scholars find particularly ridiculous.
By definition, the Antichrist is “the polar opposite and ultimate enemy of Christ,” according to the Encyclopedia Britannica. And because Muslims believe “there is no god but God,” they would have great difficulty with the idea of elevating a person to a divine status, White said.
“A Muslim would be a monotheist and the last thing a Muslim would do is have anyone worship anyone other than God,” Tabor said.
Not to mention the fact that Obama is not a Muslim.
White points to the specific descriptions of the Antichrist as evidence that the e-mail is drawing from a number of sources to create the image it wants to portray.
“There is no part of that anywhere in the Bible, not in those forms,” said White, who was a co-writer and historical consultant for the 1999 PBS documentary, Apocalypse! Time, History, and Revolution. “That’s all a jigsaw puzzle of bits and pieces all filtered through the kind of end-of-world scenarios we get in the theology that is the underpinning of the Left Behind novels.”
White says this patchwork interpretation of the Bible is common in some groups trying to justify certain beliefs.
“Of course, they never bothered to read the Scriptures carefully ... so it’s kind of a system of interpretation. That if you start with that presupposition, it’s all there you can just find it,” White said.
“That description (in the chain e-mail) never occurs anywhere in one place nor are the component parts really about the same situation. It’s a cherry-picking through Scripture to get it all to fit together.”

Pansy - just so you know, I have reported your "Anti-Christ" post to the mods. I thought about responding to you directly about how asinine it is on the facts, but I realize you are not concerned with facts. Fear and ignorance rule for some in your camp.
Anyway - just letting you know...
-
Anneshirley - Appearantly my comments struck a nerve with you. One of the things I love most about this great country is that we are free to express and have our own opinion. My statements above are just that...my own opinion. You can chose to agree, disagree, or care less about my opinion. However, what you will never accomplish is to change my opinion regardless of who you want to compare me to. I don't know about Joe McCarthy, must have been before my time. What I do know is communism. I lived it and escaped from it. One thing for sure, I don't wish that on any one or any country. So, I will continue to have my views as I am sure you will continue to have yours.
-
Pansy,
I respectfully request that you remove your post regarding the anti-christ. I find it offensive in many ways. As others have said, this does not belong in this forum. If you want to post something like this in the future (and I hope you don't), please document where the item came from, who wrote it, and in what context. Please don't put up items that you are unable to provide provenance for as it just becomes another lie bandied about.
Besides, there are many who will deem this racist propaganda, and you a racist in the process. I would not want you to be accused of something you are not.
-
Ladies, my sincere apologies. I just logged on at 5AM, thinking that that was an inane thing to post, because my intent would be misconstrued. There was no "edit" "delete" option showing up for me on this post on either of my computers. The option has shown up on other posts. I tried to contact moderators, but it now has been removed by the community. I could not do it myself.
Meanwhile, Donna and Grace, I imagine that your reporting me as a racist will have me banned from the Board. I have NEVER been called such a name, but I have been accused of being SO "politically correct". My heart is still racing and my hands are shaking.
No matter whom is elected, he will be my President.
Goodbye and good luck!

Isn't this amazing. People coming from over there<-------------------------- to tell us what we can or cannot post over here. Yet, we aren't welcomed to post anything over there. We'll handle our own posts ladies. Thank you very much.
Pansy, don't let anyone chase you away. We love ya.
-
Rosemary...yes it is, including some from not over there, isn't also amazing how some are now running the boards in regards to who they deem is worthy of posting or for that matter what they deem is worthy of being said? Yet these same people are free to say whatever they want and call people whatever they want both overtly and covertly...smacks of b.s. to me but perhaps typical of times to come.
If Pansy and Odalys believed the e mail why are they not entitled to their beliefs just as everyone over there <------------------------------ is entitled to their beliefs? Because a few people got together and decided to whine to the mods? Perhaps over here people should band together and run to the mods everytime something over there <----------------------------------- is found offensive, which is often. This post removal by the mods is by far the most ridiculous act achieved yet on these boards...are you folks happy you managed to pull this off?
-
Paulette,
We shouldn't let anyone dictate to us what we can and cannot post. Period. Not only that, while they feign being horrified, I have to read here that some are calling Gov. Palin a vagina, which is coming from over there. That is totally disgraceful. There aren't enough words in the dictionary for me to tell them how disgusting I think that is. Yet, these same people act horrified over a post here. Pleeeaaase, spare me.
-
I am seriously livid by this latest act on behalf of a few people and cannot find which rule was being violated. Someone is horrified because something was intimated? And someone has the unmitigated gall to respond to a post saying in essence...you wouldn't want to be accused of being something you are not...sounds like a threat to me when these same people sling accusations almost daily...and call people names like vagina and old man...talk about the pot calling the kettle...I guess the difference is that some people are more able to see other people more clearly and ignore them rather than running to the mods. We all have differences of opinion and we should but this latest act on behalf of a few is mind-blowing. Yes, please spare me...I really hope Pansy does not let this group run her off...
And good for Odalys for standing up for herself...

I am certainly not a Biblical scholar, however, in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 we are given the true definition of "anti-Christ" that becomes the beast in Revelation. The anti-Christ simply means against God. Against those that believe in Christ.(There are many good people but they don't believe - this is talking about evil hearts ) If you read through to verse 12 it explains all of this. Summary - while there have always been those that are evil, there will come a time with the ultimate evil person will come that will truly carry out the work of Satan - thus anti-Christ. The Bible uses symbols - especially Revelation. In Revelation the anti-Christ is referred to as "the Beast".
Obama's ideas scare me - he has gotten many labels because he talks so smoothly. He goes on and on in "words" but never tells you anything specific. The man cannot answer a yes or no - couldn't do it in the debate this week whe told this is a "yes or no" question. We got a 2 minute "talking point" discussion AGAIN> Drives me nuts; when he speaks without a prompter in front of him - he stutters, stops, spurts thinking of every word before it comes out of his mouth, less the real persona come through. His records and thesis at Columbia and Harvard are sealed - why? Open them up, let us see what he wrote. Why is it such a secret if it wouldn't hurt his bid for the Presidency?.
I don't think we have a clue what we are close to electing as our President. I think those that want "change" just might get it and are going to get a real surprise too.
Did see Nadar on TV last night - apparently he is picking up in the polls. With all the voter registration fraud being carried out by ACORN (Obama's community organizer group) this election is going to be a mess.
I still want these guys brought up on ethics charges - Barney Franks (liberal Dem), Chris Dodd (liberal Dem) for blocking changes to the banking laws that got us in this mess - that they got money/kickbacks from.
Chris Matthews - calls John McCain - "McCain" calls Barrack Obama, "Barrack " Think that says it all. Olberman - just remember he is a very liberal Dem - these two do not hide their views at all.
-
Paulette,
Obama people are trying to take us off message. They do it on all the blog sites. We'll just stay the course here and hope no one leaves us...Pansy are you reading?
I watched Sarah on Hannity and Greta last night, and I don't remember which show, but she brought up how Obama is flip-flopping now on drilling. Whenever I watch her I realize I have a smile on my face while she's speaking. Obama can't get any closer to what McCain has been saying for months.
The latest flip-flops: Obama on drilling, and he is now calling the troops leaving Iraq as a draw-down. No more.. we're outta there. If we wait long enough we won't be able to distinguish the differences between him and McCain. He's pretty much stolen half or more of Clinton's platform also. We need to put a colorful pant suit on the guy.
-
Gone -
I did not report *you*, I reported your post because of the content. I never called you a racist.
Anyway, I'm glad it was removed.

Ok guys everyone settle down...........you on the left know that the far right think most far left are some kind of representative of the anti Christ. That is not how most Conservatives feel.......did you Obama people get Pansy thrown off bc.org.......that is really unnecessary..........and let me say this.......when Amy calls Palin a vagina the way I look at that is hopeful some one that is somewhere in the middle and reading all the political threads that they will be so insulted they will vote Republican.......as insulting as I find that statement I understand Amy and knows that she uses shock statements to make her points. Us on the right know that Palin's sex was just a bonus........her real value for McCain comes from being a true Conservative..........he picked her for several reasons some for which he admired........going up against the Republicans in Alaska where good ole boy doesn't even begin to describe what Palin faced........going up against big oil and winning............but you guys over there should have not said anything.........your reaction makes you guys look like bullies.........of course this is JMO.............Shokk
-
Pansy and Odalys are not entitled to post something as truth that is not truth, no matter what the name of the thread. I did not report Pansy's post, I commented on it here, where it was posted, as I think appropriate. None of us want to be labelled an anti-Christ, which in all our minds is the essence of evil, nor should anyone accept it as a matter of opinion if this is said or implied about one's candidate. It's not opinion; it's a lie, and there is a difference. And the accusation is particularly offensive if it's based on false words from the Bible, and this is true even for a non-believer like me. As I suggested in my earlier post, there are some who would view it as blasphemy, to make up words and attribute them to a book that huge numbers of people consider sacred. I would fnd it just as offensive if someone twisted the writings of the Koran for their own purposes or any other artifact that is sacred to those who believe.
I'm sorry Pansy has left and I do hope she returns. She wrote, with great sincerity, that she was sorry about her post. Grace, everything people write about Obama, however disagreeable you find it, is not racist, and everyone who prefers the other guy is not a racist. If you overuse the label, it becomes meaningless in time, which serves no purpose, as racism does exist, and no doubt some people won't vote for Obama because of his race and some people will vote for him because of his race. May I assume that if the Republicans had nominated Alan Keyes you would not be voting for him and that not voting for him, or liking him, or even disliking him, would not make you a racist? What Pansy posted was not racist, although it might be called blasphemy. It would help if all the threads could stay reasonably civil, particularly now as passions get more intense, by discussing the candidates' platforms instead of attacking their persons and their families. Cindy McCain is not a Barbie doll, nor is John McCain, a pair of dentures.
Pansy--please come back.
-
Anneshirley...The OTHER guys name is John McCain.
-
Paulette--except in my case the other guy is Ralph Nader!
-
Anneshirley...cute attempt at humor but you know exactly what I was referencing.
-
Honestly, Paulette, I don't. I thought you were referring to the following comment of mine:
"everyone who prefers the other guy is not a racist."
I didn't use a name because there are two guys (actually more) in the race for president, so other guy was meant to be generic. If that's not what you're referring to, please tell me, as I really don't know.
