game. set match.
I am doing the happy dance!
-
Well, I actually got tipsy swigging my wine every time McCain said "my friends," but I, too, am doing the happy dance. Barring an October surprise, I don't think there's any way for McCain to pull this off. It's obvious from the tracking polls that his tactic of going negative on Obama doesn't work, at least not in the debates. Every time he tried it, the tracking lines dipped. Unfortunately for him, his limited positive message isn't resonating. I suspect the same thing will be true of Palin's attempts to "take the gloves off." The terrorist message plays well with her very partisan crowds, but rings small and hollow with everyone else.
Speaking of terrorist messages . . . as a sign of how desperate the right has become, Faux News was running a story about Ayers right after the debate. When the other 2 news networks were still discussing or replaying the debate, Faux did a "breaking news" story about the old guilt-by-association Ayers story. Trying to make up for what McCain couldn't do during the debate I guess. I'm glad to see Faux is still "fair and balanced."
-
Have you seen the new McCain/Palin signs---IN PINK!! Light pink too. Think that will get him the women's votes?
How about the covert racism on McCain's part tonight--"that one." Don't care what the pundits say, it doesn't look good for McCain to lose his temper in that "controlled" way. He couldn't have been more obvious--another night of not looking at Obama. He is really having a hard time being on the losing end!
And the poor use of humor. What's up w/that? Thought he was the "master" of the town hall meeting. Hello--the audience isn't supposed to clap or laugh. He should save his humor for the campaign trail where they can get 100 of his favorite voters to listen to his sad attempts at humor--like the one where he tells Tom he's not getting asked to be Sect'y of Treasury. What?
Nobody is taking Palin serious. All these attacks on Obama's character didn't work months ago when they were tried, and it won't work now. Think McCain is spiraling downward into the death spiral.
Looking forward to the last debate.

108....
The number of times McSame said "My friend(s)" last night.
2,897,418...
The number of times he did the rapid-fire blink thing. Was it Morse code or something?
-
This morning McCain is probably thanking his lucky stars we could never manipulate Obama into doing 10 town halls. McCain looked like a crotchety old man trying to tell decades old jokes to his children and grandchildren who speak a different language.
I was screaming at my tv, "I'm not your fu**ing friend." by the end of the debate.
Obama's giving a kick butt speech in Indiana right now, talking about health care. He mentioned that McCain doesn't think gov belongs in health care, yet he works for the government and is getting health care from the government paid for by taxpayers. Good point.
-
McCain is giving grandpas a bad name. Yes, crochety old man. That's become his persona. His use of the phrase "that one" was creepy, as was his wandering around and his lame jokes. I fear the racism that has been mostly coded and covert up till now is going to show itself more blatantly from here on out. They're desperate, with nothing left to lose. If McCain should be angry at anyone, it's George W. Bush, who not only destroyed the Republican brand, but was responsible for McCain not getting the nomination in 2000 when he was still young and strong enough to win.
Have you been following the ACORN story? The raid in Nevada? Voter suppression, folks. They're doing it again.
-
oh yah g --- i am feeling much better today, knowing That One got a bit closer to moving into the white house come january.
i was doing the happy dance with donna, having a sip of my margarita on "my friends" with lap, hopefully not 108 times, felicia.
for the master of town halls, i agree grace, mccain left everybody scratching their heads..
amy - my son said mccain looked prehistoric. lol. obama got his vote in november last night.
thank you for posting that picture, mary-lou. barack obama looked very presidential last night, i was so impressed with his health care part. i was touched with his mother's cancer reference, i know i am not alone.
serene - clearly the negative thing is not worked for old johnny, americans are going to vote their pocketbooks not smear campaigns.
phew - i almost made a whole post with no reference to that idiot sarah palin ....
speaking of wasilla de vil, troopergate report goes to the legislature friday and they will vote on making the findings public. supreme court hears weak repug block today.
looks like the straight talk express has more than lost a wheel, it is going to come to a dead stop in less than a month!
eye on the prize...moving closer to the end of the worst eight years in american history.
we can do this!
-
Laura, I was just kidding about McSame saying "My friend(s)" 108 times. It just seemed like it...
I almost wet myself when I read "Wasilla de Vil" - OMG!!!
I was HOT when he refered to Obama as "that one" and was equally furious when he assumed the Black man in the audience with the question couldn't possibly have know what Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were /did before their latest news run. WTH?!? Now I'm totally convinced that McSame is an absolute and total a$$. I'll be glad when the election is over so I don't have to hear him speak anymore...
-
I'm in VIRGINIA....this state seems to be a hard one to win. But we will do it, we have to.
-
Felicia - I too was insulted with mccain's inference that the gentleman in the audience had probably not heard of fannie and freddy before the economic crisis. elitist? racist? whatever, stupid for sure.
The old man is losing it, today at a campaign stop in pennsylvania, mccain referred to his supporters as "fellow prisoners" .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYFm5kK4f1k&eurl -
And to think he didn't even stick around long enough to shake a few hands--just took his designer clothed wife and fled for the hills! I'm sure he knew he blew it, and just couldn't face the crowd.
His demeaning attitude and condescending speeches to the audience and Obama, like they needed to be educated was more than I could stand. I found myself wanting to reach into the TV and shake him while yelling, what the H are you doing? He has cooked his own goose.
My mom told me yesterday she mutes him and Palin when they come on--she said he gives older people a bad name--mom's 81. Hee, hee!
It's Obama/Biden all the way. I sent for absentee ballot, but I'm thinking of taking it to the voting station so I know it will be counted. Just don't trust those Repugs after the last 2elections.
-
Just saw the most racist comment on the repug thread. they never stop. at least it wasn't the same person. hopefully, this one will realize the mistake she made and take it off. how sad. seems typical of people in the last throes of losing--hit below the belt. not too smart. hard to believe someone is so unintelligent to pass along something so overtly racist on this board. beiing nice here--instead of calling her a racist idiot. what she doesn't know is, this stuff doesn't stick because it is a lie. so, I'm sure what I have said will be reported when someone from "over there" comes "here."
So glad they don't bother to respond on this thread, and just grouse about it amongst themselves. Leaves us free to really talk about the issues. With the economy tanking, I don't think McCain will have time to talk about the lies his campaign is floating on who Obama's supposed "friends"are. Can't come up with a plan on the economy either. Think it's over before it's over? LOL
-
Grace, believe it or not I remember the same sort of stuff being circulated about Jimmy Carter in 1976, by the losing side. That time it had to do with the number of letters in his name adding up to something or other.....
I always thought a manure spreader was a farm implement that recycled animal droppings on the fields. Guess there's a new definition now.
-
it kind of reminds me of when women made a mad dash to buy monica lewinski's color of lipstick. something wrong with this picture.
-
Marylou....I LOVE the picture you posted.....Thanks.
I have been working as a volunteer at our county's Dem. Headquarters......Obama will be in Cincinnati tomorrow, and we volunteers have been gifted with preferred tickets....We are car-pooling...I can't wait.
The more I watch Obama, the more I like him.....As most of you know, I used to be a one issue voter... I voted for pro-life candidates only.....Now that I see that the Republican Party has used this as a carrot, to keep the votes of pro-liferes, I feel freed up to vote for the candidate I really like...
I am still very much pro-life....and whie I am a Catholic....I think I would be pro-life no matter what...I just can't see taking the life of an innocent baby....Who did not cause the problem...It's HIS body too. I don't expect my feeings on this matter to ever change...I've watched four of my five grandboys being born, and cannot even imagine seeing them die just before they are born.
However, as a Catholic, I do believe that the Democratic Party (with that one exception) embodies the teachings of my Church much more than the Republican Party does....There is a deep regard for the welfare of others....I find Republicans to be anything but "compasionate conservatives".....I don't think there really is any such animal.
I like Obama because he is cerebal....You can see his inate intelligence....His ability to reason and think things through. I like his unflapability (is that a word?).and his calm demeanor. He clearly outshines McCain...
I worry about the McCain/Palin ticket.....He is too old and cranky, and she is...well....she is scary. The very thought of Sarah Palin being so close to the White House terrifies me.....
I am also worried about the saftey of Obama...Especially when there has been so much hate for him spewed at McCain/Palin rallies......There are a lot of nuts ot there, who could so easily be set off by such ugliness....I'll bet the security surrounding Obama is awesome. At least I hope so.
I truly believe that Obama will be our next President, and am looking forward to that day. We cannot take another four years of what the last eight have given us....Our country is coming apart at the seams.
It won't be long now...
Sandy

Oh BTW.....You know how it has been said that older white women would NOT vote for Obama? Well, you should see all of us old white women volunteers! Amazing.
One of our volunteers has a bumper sticker that says "Another Old White Woman for Obama" . Priceless.
Sandy
-
Sandy,
From an "old" black sister, YOU GO GIRL!!!!
-
I am appalled (but not surprised) at the behavior of some of the people at Palin and McCain's campaign stops. But nothing, nothing is more shocking and disgraceful than watching both candidates stand there and tolerate such hateful, racist and violent speech.
And I cringe when the pundits talk about the "white working class voters" - that's code for "white folks who will never vote for a black candidate" or, more correctly "racist a$$holes".
I worked in York, PA for a year. There were KKK parades and rallies going on all the time - and this was in 2000 - 2001. We would get emails telling us when it was "unsafe" to walk the streets because of racial conflcts in the streets. But the media sterilizes the truth and calls them "white working class". What a crock of bull.
For the record, I realize that PA is a large and diverse state - but in the central and rural areas, it's a totally different world. Much like parts of VA, IN, KY, OH and probably several other states where racism is still very, very real and all too common.
-
Sandy,
I saw a bumper sticker that said,"I'm an old white woman voting for Obama." I loved it. I'd put one on my car if I could find one!
My husband was flipped off at an intersection two days ago. He has a support the troops/bring them home now, and an Obama '08, and finally a More Trees, Less Bush on the back of his truck. Guess he just insulted that yahooh one too many times!! I told him that should have made him feel good, having that guy stuck behind him for 20 miles. Hee, hee. Karma does come up to but one in the butt if not careful.
It's amazing how McCain tries to stay above the fray. He sends his pit bull w/lipstick around to snarl about our Barack, and the fringe minions to use his middle name like it's a nasty word. Guess that cop in FLA will think twice about using Barack's middle name infront of a crowd in uniform, how dumb can you get?
McCain is swirling the drain, and it will soon be glub, glub, glub. LOL
-
Hi Ladies,
I just have to say I am so hyped up, I KNOW Obama is going to rock this thing!!!! I ignore any ignorant, angry republican lies. Who cares! They know they are loosing! I never go to their thred or any where else that they post. It only has negative things to say. This has nothing to do with black or white, but it has everything to do with what is wrong and right!! Obama is right!!! We are almost there!! Spred the positive word! Let them wallow in their negativity!! Let them be led by the angry troll and what's her name..so what!
OBAMA '08...its almost here!!!!!!
-
Im so disgusted with the way McCain and Palin are leading this campaign away from the real issues. I knew I was hearing something, didnt know it was McCains teeth clicking. McCain is an angry old man. It is so obvious he cant stand to be on the same stage as Obama. Gosh he comes off looking bad. I heard on the news yesterday he said "my friends" 22 times. Now how disgusting was that?

LAphoenix: "McCain is giving grandpas a bad name."
Okay, I wish I hadn't have been drinking cranberry juice when I read that because it came out my nose! Too funny!
Bygrace: I noticed the pink signs too. I LOVE your posts! All of them! You are so insightful, thoughtful, intelligent, respectful and balanced. I never told you this before but I think you rock!
The campaign is getting disgusting. I hate that McCain's camp has Cindy propped up trying to make the way Obama voted in the past all about her son. I mean can't Obama be against something without it being a personal attack? It made me want to hurl. I would have voted the exact way he did but believe he still supported the troops by wanting them home. I wish Obama could come back with a reply about how many US troops have been killed or maimed OR even how many innocent Iraqis have died in this futile war for oil. He can't because of the learning curve of so many US citizens who still think this is about 9/11 and believe there are weapons of mass destruction somewhere out there in the desert, along with terrorists. I don't judge tthose who believe that; it's what the stupid president they may (or may not have, depending on your math) voted for told them. It's the biggest scam of our lifetime. Historians are going to use this as a Barnum expample of "there's a sucker born every minute" years from now.
I want Bush and Cheney charged for war crimes. I'll just come out and say it. I doubt it will happen. And this is sort of off-topic now.
Ugh; I'm sleep deprived. Our infant daughter was up the entire night and I think she has an ear infection. Sorry if it sounds like I'm ranting.
Anna

And I say "propped up" because really, does Cindy McCain look "real" to anyone? To me she is the ultimate Stepford wife and I think she has voices via a prompter telling her what to say and do. The only amazing thing she has ever done was adopt a special needs child without consulting with Mr. McCain, and while I respect that, it was several years ago and now it seems like she just does whatever the advisors tell her to do. She seems insipid and passionless, like a puppet without a hand inside.

grace- a racist post from the republican thread-- whodathunk it. Some of the horrors I'm hearing from the crowds at the Palin/McCain campaign stops are frightening--- calling for assassignation? sherriffs in uninform telling the crowds to fear obama as if it was an official announcement? When pressed, McCain softly mumbles he doesn't agree with this, which is bullshit, because if he didn't agree to it, he wouldn't allow such talk. McCain is a shameful shadow of the man he claims to be. The campaign McCain has run supercedes any claim he may have once had to being a hero, which I never bought into anyway, because he is an anathama to what this country needs.
Obama continues to talk about what the american people want and need to hear, health care, the economy, He talks in terms of solutions, not attacks against his very attack worthy opponents.
Anna, I hope your daughter is feeling better.
-
Anna, I called Cindy McCain Plastic Surgery stepford firstlady wanna be Barbie a while back. The woman is scary. When she attacked obama yesterday saying something about her blood running cold, I had to laugh, because I thought her blood was already so cold it couldn't be warmed. I laughed when she talked about trading places with obama for a day--- rich white heiress trading places with Obama--- hope it's not raining that day and and she's trying to take a cab-- what's a cab, Mrs. McCain might ask, something like a limousine for people with less m oney than heiresses, except much harder for blacks to catch....Trade places for a day with Obama, maybe that might mean she actually spend time with her teen daughter- the one McCain pulls out to show how compassionate she is for adopting her, the one she abandons to stand by her husband and clap in a stepford like way.
I have a hard time distinguishing who is more hateful and anti woman Cindy McCain or Sarah Palin....
-
Amy - I find them both hateful and anti- woman but I see Sarah as a serious
security risk. Her demagoguery has elicited some frightening, intolerable responses. Well documented through the years, Cindy McCain has her own demons. The way she stood at the debate tuesday night with her arms behind her back, not interacting with the audience, clinging to her husband did not portray a confident first lady to be.
It is so wonderful to come here and see old white sisters, old black sisters, and all the non-age disclosed sisters full of hope for some real change in our country's leadership.
Bush's administration deliberately looked the other way while speculators "gamed" the system and now we the taxpayers must pay and suffer the consequences.
I am very proud to be for That One, and look forward to seeing Michelle Obama more when she moves in to the White House in January. She is one classy lady.
Time to stay above the fray, ignorance and fear can not be cured in such a short time until the election. I will continue to hope for the future though...:)
I just listened to Barack speak in Ohio and am relieved that we have a calm, rational, well educated and spoken candidate to make president.
After george bush, we sure need it.
We can do this ladies!
-
In contrast to Cindy, there's Michelle, who was on Larry King and the Daily Show yesterday. She was very tactful and kind toward the McCains. A classy woman all around. You know it's desperation time when they have to trot out the spouse for an attack. Some people might say that the Obamas can afford to be kind because they're ahead and were ahead through most of the primaries, but I would argue the opposite. I think many voters are responding to them precisely because they are decent and classy. From goodness comes success. I think that's also what Sandy was talking about when she said Democrats seem to have more compassion than Republicans. I always thought it was funny that Bush chose to describe himself as a "compassionate conservative" to distinguish himself from other conservatives. Personally I'd rather have a bleeding heart than a hard heart.
Shrinks would have a field day with McCain's "my fellow prisoners" slip. Do you think he's feeling like a prisoner of his own dirty campaign? Or his own ambition? Or the Republican party? He probably wishes he could just run as an independent with Lieberman by his side.
Bush and Cheney should be held accountable for Iraq, but other than being judged as the worst team in pesidential history, you know they won't be. The war will probably be viewed as foolish and ill-planned, but not nefarious. At least in this part of the world.
Anna, sorry to hear your daughter's sick. Hope you both can get some sleep!
-
laura, I envy your spelling ability!
LAP-- what a freudian slip that was, huh! I think McCain is a prisoner of his ambition which has destroyed the man he thought he was and showed him a side of himself that was equally as ugly as the crap GWB pulled on him.
Bush should be tried as a war criminal, inpeached at the very least, although I'm not sure that's in the best interest of the country at this time because it would cause extreme partisianship which would cause roadblocks in congress. What if Barack pardoned Bush for his war crimes-- that was the senate wouldn't be logged down with hearings and the point would still be made.
Grace- I forgot to tell you-- McCain said 'friend" 22 times in the last debate, someone counted!
