    Shokk,

We own one of those "Small Business" that is going to be hurt by the Obama administration.

The best years we have had, money to add employees and to have a bit more for ourselves (we are the last to get paid and the food business is not the best Mom and Pop to own) has been the Bush years.  We struggled under Clinton - I dread to think what we are going to go through again. I have people that depend on me - how do you tell them you can't keep them when they are good workers.

The arrangement of the list of federal-level scandals in this article follows a more or less chronological order; in the case of state and local scandals, the arrangement is alphabetical, by state.[edit] "Scandal"A scandal is anything which the public decides is a scandal. Aided and abbetted by the press and media (which may themselves be biased) which feed the public's desire for news, regardless of the truth, importance, or character of the 'crime' if any. Salacious behavior is very likely to attract attention, particularly when public officials are involved, thus an entire section is included on sex.Neither can the press be counted on to define what a scandal is or is not. The enormous amount of publicity devoted to Monica Lewinsky did not match the seriousness of the crime, while recent overt actions of the United States such as the mining of Nicaraguan waters, the invasion of Panama or the invasion of Irag were treated by the press not as scandals but as public policy.[edit] "Political"By definition, political scandals should involve politicians and not private citizens. We more or less expect civilians to be corrupt, but only when they are closely linked to elected or appointed officials should they be included. Thus Martha Stewart's insider trading and Rush Limbaugh's drug addiction may both have been 'scandals,' but they need not be included here.An obvious benchmark for 'scandal' should be when a politician or his immediate staff is convicted and found quilty. Other offences such as misunderstandings, breaches of ethics, unproven crimes or coverups may or may not result in scandals depending on who's bringing the charges, the amount of publicity and the seriousness of the crime, if any.[edit] "Major"There is no bright line to distinguish "major" scandals from "minor" scandals, but rather scandals tend to be defined by the public themselves and the media's desire to feed that particular frenzy. Thus, small but salacious scandals, such as Larry Craig's (R-MT) arrest for lewd behavior can eclipse more serious scandals such as suspending the Writ of Habeaus corpus in time of war. What is also not so clear, is how far down the ladder of obscurity a scandal should go. During the Truman (D) administration a large number of local IRS staffers were found to be corrupt, but they were so far removed from Washington, Truman or any of his appointees, that it could hardly be called a 'Truman scandal' yet it played a part in his failure to win re-election.[edit] Systemic scandalsNot included in this article are pervasive systemic scandals, such as the role of money in the political process. Details of campaign donations are well documented by the Federal Election Commission, the Center for Responsive Politics, and elsewhere. The "normal" purchase of access and influence by means of political donations is not covered in this article.Neither are 'revolving door' stories, the latest manifestaion of Eisenhower's 'military-industrial complex' treated here. That is the practice of hiring high placed officials to promote companies or lobbies they recently were paid to regulate. Some rules apply, but to a great extent this is legal.Likewise, corporate scandals, failures or corruption are not included unless significant government involvement is also present. Thus the Lockheed bail out is not included, but the Enron scandal and Harken Energy are. There are just too many to include.[edit] FEDERAL SCANDALS[edit] PRESENT - 2000, Executive Branch ScandalsAlphonso Jackson, (R) Secretary of HUD resigned while under investigation by the FBI when he revoked a contract because the vendor told him he didn't like President Bush. But the intelligence and the facts were being fixed around the policy." FISA/NSA Controversy, By executive order, George W. Bush (as part of the war on terror) authorized the NSA to easedrop on electronic communications between the US and abroad without warrents, thus by-passing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court which had been set up for this purpose. I heard Mark Levin say today that 94% of the people who want jobs have jobs. I haven't fact-checked this, but with all the other skewed information we are being fed~~~what and whom to believe? When Soledad can't count raised hands????

Summer-I think that most Americans, like myself, don't really think of Canada much as a foreign country. We are too similar, in language (pardon mon francaise), history, tradition, and overall mindset to feel that we are foreigners. It is kind of an us and them mentality. It is the new world vs the old world. I think we even feel more of a kinship with Austrailia, which is hardly on our doorstep, than we do to Europe, even though many of us have European roots. Our countries, the children of the old world, were founded by the "survivors" of the old world. We have an independent spirit that the rest of the world cannot understand. When we say that the world hates us, we are looking outside North America. I know it is somewhat silly to think this way but the media keeps telling us how low our reputation is in the world so we believe it. But for people like me, and a lot of republicans, we just get so furious at the rest of the world because we are being blamed for Sept 11. Sept 11th happened, not because of what we have done, but for who we are and what we stand for. These terrorists hate us simply because we exist. If anyone has any doubt about this, go to obsession.com and watch the video that I mentioned a while back that was being distributed in US papers. People have forgotten about the terrorists because we have not had another attack (thankyou Mr. President). But they are still out there ready to pounce. They are looking for our weaknesses and plotting to take advantage of them. This is how they were able to pull off the attack. One of our major weaknesses was porous borders. Yeah, we will never be able to secure them 100% but we have to at least make them less accessible. Unfortunately, this makes it more difficult for Americans and Canadians to go back and forth, but we have no other choice. If we did not make the border more secure, terrorists would know it is an easy route. Some of the hijackers did come in through Canada, and I think that Canada use to have a much more liberal immigration policy that they were able to exploit. One of my first thoughts on Sept 11th was that I knew my country would have to change forever. We were forced to give up a lot of our freedoms because of it. It makes our lives more inconvenient, but it is better than the alternative. It may seem unfriendly to Canada, but it is just a matter of self preservation.

That was some list you have on the evil deeds of dems. They left off another Ill. gov, Dan Walker, and our current gov. will be joining the list soon, if they bother to prosecute him. Our last Republican Gov. George Ryan, was sent to jail at 80 for the same abuses of power that Blagoivich has committed but, no one is screaming to put him in jail, because he is a democrat. There are lots of crooked GOP too of course, but the difference is, we like to throw the bums out. The dems have a tendency to, as you said, slap them on the wrist and reelect them. I am still amazed that guys like T. Kennedy, who at the very least was guilty of vehicular manslaughter, drunk driving, leaving the scene of an accident. . . , is respected as the godfather of the senate. In my mind he will always be a liar and a murderer. And people still love that shiesty(sp) creep, Bill Clinton, even though he disgraced the Oval Office with his affairs, and then had the gaul to wave his finger at us and deny it. If either one of them would have been republicans, they would have been done for. Look at how they treated Nixon. I never liked the guy, but his "wiretapping" was something that was the norm back in the day. He owned up to it, but the way he was vilified for it was ridiculous. He was a descent president, but will only be remembered for Watergate. The double standard it maddening.

Oh, I thought of another one not on the list:

Carol Mosely Braun-the charismatic first African American senator, whom I am embarassed to say, I voted for, who was finally tossed for taking kickbacks. Fortunately, she was not reelected. I wonder if any other state has this many, high ranking crooks? And you do not even have any of the long standing tradition of crooked Chicago pols. The musical "Chicago" explains it pretty well. And people want to elect someone who was weaned on Chicago politics to lead this country. I just do not get it. Again, because he is a dem he gets a pass. If McCain even had one association like Rezco, he would have been done for, not to mention an anarchist like Ayers. Republicans are held to a much higher standard.

The truth is that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be vice-president let alone president.  Her selection shows that John McCain has terrible judgment.  He well knows there is a 50% chance to die in office and yet he selected the bimbo beauty queen to be the next in line for the Presidency.  I am going to have to hold my nose and vote Democratic.   I don't see what choice any of us have.

Truthseeker2...new to the boards? That is YOUR truth, vastly different from the truth! 50% chance to die in office? Where did you get those stats? The "bimbo beauty queen" ...wow, now if you would have called her "bimbo beauty babe" I could at least give you points for using alliteration. Hold your nose, good idea, that way you won't smell your own feces.

Yes, 50% chance.  His melanoma has a 50% chance of recurrence and close to that for metastasis.  His heart has probably been weakened from his POA days.  He will not outlive the grueling years of a presidency, especially given the problems we face.  Most people who do not close their eyes to the facts, and that generally excludes right wing nutcases, will agree that Palen is an uneducated dolt who knows little about anything.  Her claim to foreign policy experience is her ability to see Russia from a tiny island off the Alaska coast that she never visited?  A governor of a state with a population smaller than many small cities in the Continental US?  Wow.  She is already a known liar with starting with her bridge to nowhere nonsense, and I personally don't want the soccer mom down the street running the country.  Nor do most sane people.  She may or may not be likable if you can stand her condescending "folksy" talk and winking, but it is clear that Biden was far more professional and knowledgeable, far more Presidential than the bimbo from down the street.  I don't see there being any real issue to these facts.  The republican spinsters are trying to do the best with the material they have but even they have to hold their noses when they argue that Palen is qualified to be President.  Thankfully, per the polls, looks like the public isn't buying it.

    Dear friends

We are being infiltrated by the troll who continues to try to hijack the threads on these boards to stir up trouble. Please be aware that truthseeker, or worried husband1-7, or whatever he wants to call himself has made it his mission in life to harass women who have breast cancer, insult us, and try to stir up trouble. Please do not respond to any of his comments, as this will only encourage him more. Sorry about all this, because he seems to be following me around. I just do not want to see him ruin the wonderful thread we have like he has so many others. Do not respond to anything he has to say, and block him from your private messages.

     L. Brent Bozell

    Obama, Taxes, and "Facts"

    by L. Brent Bozell III
    September 30, 2008
Tell a friend about this site

Ever since liberal media types felt robbed by the Bush-Quayle campaign's "lies" about Michael Dukakis in 1988, we've been suffering through the media elite's attempts to "police" the facts in advertisements. "Correction" squads are insisting that John McCain can't say Barack Obama will raise taxes, no matter how much that announcing Democrats will raise taxes is like announcing the sun will rise.

In 1992, Vice President Dan Quayle suggested Bill Clinton would raise taxes on the middle class. Quayle said in the vice presidential debate that everyone over $36,000 could face a tax hike. Media "experts" accused the GOP of mangling "facts." President Clinton was elected - and passed the largest tax increase in American history, right down to the middle class.

"It was Quayle who repeatedly twisted and misstated the facts," CNN reporter Brooks Jackson had pronounced after the vice presidential debate. On ABC, Jeff Greenfield proclaimed: "Independent examination of this charge by, for example, press organizations, has found it, to say the least, misleading."

Do you think "independent" was a good adjective to describe the adoring chorus of Clinton correspondents in 1992?

After the fact - which is to say, when Clinton was safely elected - some in the press developed a sudden sense of guilt.

Cut to February 18, 1993, when USA Today admitted: "Looks like Dan Quayle was right. Last year's vice presidential debate....produced an accurate prediction from Quayle about the Clinton budget plan....The final plan, according to Clinton officials, will hit those making $30,000 and above."

This is the sticky thing about campaign proposals. They are simply proposals. When a president is elected, the entire campaign manual can be thrown out the window. Predictions about what a politician will do are predictions, not facts. Obviously, some predictions can be wilder, like the suggestion that Ronald Reagan would start a massive war. (Liberals never tire of that one.) Predicting a massive tax hike under Democrats does not qualify as a wild prediction.

This goes not just for debates, but for commercials. The Bush-Quayle campaign issued a TV ad in the fall of 1992 that used their own numerical estimates of how much Clinton would raise taxes, and all the networks leaped on it like starving men on a crust of bread. NBC's Lisa Myers said "facts" were not on the GOP side: "President Bush's new ad portrays Bill Clinton as a big taxer and a danger to the middle class...That's misleading. In fact [here we go with that nettlesome word again], Clinton has proposed cutting taxes to the sort of people in this ad." In 20-20 hindsight, the fact is that Lisa Myers ended up with egg on her face.

Eric Engberg, the infamous CBS blowhard, was worse, and his producer encouraged Steven Colford of Advertising Age to denounce the ad starkly: "I think it's lying." If anyone was lying about Clinton, it ended up being CBS. Engberg continued: "Clinton's ad squad, aware that the unanswered attacks look true, struck back within 24 hours." He aired a Clinton claim that "George Bush has had the worst economic record of any President in the past 50 years" - but this time, he simply refused to assess the accuracy of that ludicrous groaner (two words: Jimmy Carter) or anything else in the Clinton response.

In 2008, reporters and columnists touting Obama are repeatedly citing numbers by something called the Tax Policy Center - and you'll never hear that this is a project operated by two liberal-Democrat think tanks - to suggest Obama will actually cut middle-class taxes more than John McCain. That, of course, assumes that President Obama will follow his plan to the letter, and that a newly elected liberal House and Senate will rubber-stamp his alleged tax cut for "95 percent" of Americans. That, by the way, is a serious math error. Please explain how it's possible to cut 95 percent of Americans' taxes when the Tax Foundation reports that 40 percent of Americans don't pay any income tax. If you think you can, I'd like to interest you in a sub-prime mortgage. This math apparently is too sophisticated for the guardians of "fact," who are nowhere to be found.

When Democrats claim they'll be more generous in tax-cutting, does anyone believe a liberal-dominated Washington is going to do less taxing and spending than the Bush administration?

There's nothing wrong with the media suggesting that the Republican candidate is refusing to accept the genuineness of the Democratic candidate's proposal. But if they suggest McCain is lying or misleading voters, they're in danger of walking off yet another cliff of credibility if and when President Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi get to cook their own ever-expanding federal budget pie.

excuse me LindaMemm, I should be able to give an opinion without being attacked by a nasty woman for giving my opinion.  I notice you attack lots of people when you don't like what they way.  Being mean and nasty should not be tolerated on this board.  I don't like Palen or Mcain for that matter.  I'm not thrilled with the alternative but that choice is the least bad of the choices we have.  And Bush is the worst President we have ever had.  Does anybody doubt that?  Isn't it time for a change?  Would you rather have an old, angry man as President and a Bimbo right behind him leading our country in this perilous world?  Do I need to complain to the moderators because you have insulted me?  Or do you think you can act like an adult in the future?
