Marin - I've never been but have heard (redneck Riviera or not), that Destin has beautiful beaches.
I love the suit, whoa mama. The dress is very cute- I would go with the espadrilles (do you have off-white by chance?) with the dress- they're more beachy in my opinion.
Have a great time.
I want to do some fall shopping - my favorite season to do so, but with this economy I am afraid, very afraid. I need some new tights and skirts - my pencil skirts from last year are a bit snug to say the least. I can salvage these; however, if just lose a few pounds. That is the plan - lose a few pounds and re-evaluate my wardrobe. But the tights (and maybe a new pair of boots) are a must.
Raye
-
Marin, you maintain your hottie status with that suit and dress. I would not do black with the dress even though it is red. I think it would be too dark and somber for the beach.
Raye, surely some new hose would not create a fiscal crisis? And, I just know you can pull off some magic with a great scarf maybe tied ala sarong at the waist of your pencil skirt. Maybe it would hide the offending pounds. Start a trend. (Can you believe me giving fashion advice? LOL)
-
The tights at Target were very well priced. The cheapest were $5 and the most expensive were $16.00, so a few tights shouldn't break your wallet Raye.
I am watching how the economy will affect retail stores this holiday season. Even last year we saw stores putting merchandise on sale extremely early, and well before christmas.
According to a few articles and programs I've seen, we can expect a lot of retailers to close. I'm sure you already heard steve and barry's filed chapter 11 bankruptcy.
If you have a big purchase like a new coat, make sure you shop around for deals this season, b/c I think we may find great bargains... and then of course, run here to share them with each other.
-
WooHoo, Marin, you go girl! I'd kill to get into a bikini like that again! And you with those long, long legs...you may not make it out of the hotle room, if ya know what I mean!
You asked a few pages ago about jeans that are long. Have you seen the Kut from the Cloth brand at Nordie's? They are really long (I need them hemmed or I must wear them with heels, and I'm 5'9") and they are under $100! I'm done with any other brand, except my Eddie Bauers for pure, non-stretch denim for weekend running around.
Enjoy Destin. I haven't been there in 25 years!
Anne
-
Wow, thanks Anne! I'm headed for Nordie's as soon as I get back from Destin. I'm also looking for Hudsons. I have a pair of severely low rise pale pink cords that are Hudson and they fit as though they were tailored for just me. The jeans will probably more expensive than I can spring for, especially since I'm aching to get my Restalyne booster asap. Ah, beauty....it does take some work and quite a bit of $$$, doesn't it?
I'm spending tomorrow trying to pack "sensibly" so that I only need to take 2 carry-ons. Can you imagine
? I mean lingerie takes one suitcase alone! (Y'all DO know that I'm kidding, right?
)

Here's a new filler that I want to look into!!
-
Damn, Pansy, that stuff sounds awesome! I'm pretty sure that none of the PSs in my area use it yet though. I tried finding one who uses ArteFill and only found one and that's been around for awhile. Do you know how much it costs? Probably more than Restalyne, I'm betting!

Look at you Tina Fashionista. Yeah, you are right - a couple of pairs of tights won't break the bank. My favorite are Hue and sometimes they have the buy one get one for a lesser amount deal. The Target tights always run on me either on the first or second wear, maybe I am buying the wrong ones?
My plan is to go to TJ Maxx and see if I can find some deals.
-
I use the bare assets tights, super thick....
-
FitChick, I see the PS next Tuesday (hopefully for exchange scheduling, no more fills).
i will see what Dr. Ken Doll has to say, and ask re price.
-
Thanks - I'll check for the Bare Assets and try a pair.
OK, one more little thing on AH and then I'll let it lie. Tina, looks as though this writer somewhat agrees with you about certain aspects of AH's new edgier look (namely number 8):
"And how do we know Anne is officially edgy? Here are a few clues we picked up on:
1. Combat boots (with untied laces!)
2. Smoky eyes
3. Black fingernail polish
4. Black leather vest
5. Widespread legs
6. Kind of messy hair
7. Stupid hat
8. Unladylike popping of a squat in a dress
Overall, it's nice in theory, but we'd like our pretty-pretty-princess Anne back-the one who doesn't squat in dresses."
-
Sorry - wrong thread ladies - I should have put this on the makeup thread where the topic was originally broached.
-
Well there does seem to be quite a crossover between the Makeup and Fashion threads and we are all on both, so whatever. I wanted to bump this one up and saved my fashion faux pas from vacation for here. And what, you ask, was that? Welllllll.....I freakin' forgot my clothes, that's what! OMG, I seriously think that I had a temporary recurrence of major chemo brain! Yeah, I had hung all of my outfits in categories in my closet and, not wanting to wrinkle anything, had waited until the last minute to pack. Well, I also had organized piles all over my bed, so when P. showed up to take us to the airport, I started scurrying around trying to get it all in....and didn't. Only the stuff on the bed, my shoes and my new red sundress made it, along with the toiletries, makeup and (thank god!) my bathing suits. We're in the air when I start thinking about how I'd like a shower when we arrive and I start thinking of my little white after-shower "dress" that I'll wear when I realized "opps, guess I forgot that." Then my stomach clinches as I realize that not only did I forget that, but everything hanging with it, including ALL of my shorts and tops! OY!
Happy ending though....P. took me out to Target and I bought shorts and tops that were actually not bad at all and completely serviceable. If it had been a need for a bathing suit, though, I wouldn't have been as successful. And then, the next day we went to the outlet mall in Destin and I was able to supplement my wardrobe once again. So, my chicas, the lesson here is to either pack early enough, put a trip on your door that won't let you out untill you verify your luggage contents, OR intentionally forget everything and bring a bunch of moola to buy an entirely new wardrobe
!

Oh, don't know how I missed your last posts, Raye. I was feeling rather old about thinking AH looked not sassy, but, well, vulgar. So glad some other old fart feels the same way I do.
Way to go, Marin, about the wardrobe! Now, at least P. knows your size for when your birthday or Christmas comes around. Tell me you didn't do that on purpose, you little lynx, you.
-
Thank goodness you remembered you suits and new dress, Marin - and of course, your makeup, etc. Glad to hear you had a good time. Take any pics you can share? I love Tina calling you "little lynx." heh
Did anyone receive the small VS catalogue yesterday with shoes and boots galore? Oh my! The shoes on the back cover are so cool - I posted a pic of them below, they would look so very good with tights. I loved so many of the boots, but alas, curbing my shopping this fall.
-
gorgeous... love the blue and green. Jewel tones are VERY in this season.
-
I bought a fuschia top to go with my new skirts/suit (black, black/white). I already have a gorgeous bright pink bag. Can I wear it into the fall or do I need another color bag? I really do not want a fuschia bag and, besides, it's too matchy for me. Any suggestions, fashionistas?
Raye, I do like those shoes, too, particularly the colored ones.
-
Tina - I have a light pink purse - faux alligatorish finish - that I use in the winter. It goes with both my mainly black attire as well as navy. I am thinking of getting a dark purple bag for this fall/winter. Saw a cute one at Macy's, but will check TJ Maxx first.
I'd go with a black bag or maybe a dark dark purple bag to use with your new outfit.

Just got back from Macy's my favorite-- INC...
I love the fact that purple is THE color of the season, b/c I LOVE it, and it looks great on me. I bought a purple pea coat- not traditional looking though, two stacked rows of pockets, very fitted- for $129... not bad for a coat. I looked at this STUNNING coat on the coat floor, that was a black swing long pea coat with two red stripes at the bottom-- it was $800. I didn't even dare try it on.
I grabbed a few cute tops and a sweater. The total for my coat and three tops almost totalled my ENTIRE shopping trip to Target where I got all those cute clothes-- (I'm wearing the purple ombre dress with black tights right now, and I LOVE IT!!!!) so while INC has beautiful stuff, I need to stick to Target for everything inbetween.
I am searching for a dress asap... I have an afternoon bar/batmitzvah on the 18th (it's my PS's twins) I was thinking something knee length with tights, or a great pant suit (although I'd rather wear a dress) but I had zero luck today. The dresses at white house black market are too dressy- more evening cocktailly...any suggestions?
I saw my dream purple bag from Michael Kors for a mere $400, but they were all sold out in purple of the bag I wanted. I checked three other places to no avail. They have tons of other MK patent purple bags- but this one is really special- I'll see if I can find a pic to post...
-
astor patent leather large in purple:
I think that's the link... and the doorbell just rang. I swear I ordered a sweater dress and two pair of pants from Alloy two days ago online, and they just arrived. I think my fall wardrobe is just about complete... all thats left are black knee high boots- need to go to DSW soon.
-
I am somewhat envious that I have no place to wear lots of new clothes.
I'm willing to adorn myself, just no where to go.
Must the the gray day here that is getting to me.
That MK bag is very nice; why don't you order it online?
How do you think this pewter color bag would be with the B&W and fuchsia?
http://www.brightonretail.com/store/wishlist.php?m=product_detail&p=H3167P
-
It's a purchase that I have to sleep on... I just wanted to see it up close in the store- I saw it in a different color- so I know the bag itself is perfect.
It's a lot of money for a bag, that may only be in style for one season....
I clicked that link, and it took me to the main page... which pewter bag?
-
INC is my favorite brand. I love everything they have. Nice purple bag, but MK is too expensive for moi. I think I saw a cute Nine West dark purple bag at Macy's - going to check that out.
I was just a DSW last week - lots of cute boots and shoes.
Tina, I can't find the pewter bag either. Can you post a pic?
-
Okay I ordered a pair of platform knee high boots from chinese laundry... let me find a pic:
http://www.chineselaundry.com/indShoe.asp?type=b&store=c&id=3521&sess=10030822835648704
It's basically like the exact same shoe I wore to my engagement party, only in a boot. I know they fit great, and they are soooo comfy even though they are sky high!
-
grrrr none of the links seem to be working:
if you look at chineselaundry.com and then click boots it's called Excess (perfect name)
-
Beth - I see an INC sweater dress in purple, it is soo cute. I hate the fact that one cannot copy a pic from the Macy's website.
-
OK, I see the boots. Whoa, I love Chinese Laundry and I love platforms, but those are a bit too much platform for me. I could see maybe Gene Simmons wearing them.
-
Beth, Lord & Taylor always has tons of cute dresses~~~use coupons! I am wanting dresses, too. I had the nicest collection, then gave them all away to a local college wanting to outfit new grads for business. I brought out fall/winter stuff today~~~nothing but skirt suits and pantsuits. Time to pitch, er, recycle! (And I can't find my one pair of skinny jeans from Target!)
-
Oh, damn. Go to http://www.brighton.com/ and it's item Style #H3167P. Actuallly, it also comes in a larger size which could also be nice. Bear in mind that I am a little shit.
The Excess boots are divine - as long as I don't have to wear them. So Cruella deVille! Beth, you could carry them off. Great webstore, BTW.
I do agree that a purple bag for $400 is a bit much. If it were something that you know you could wear for years, that would be okay. Personally, I would not spend over $150 for something that may be passe next year, and even that is a lot. For what purpose would you be using this purple bag? Business? Theater? Bar-hopping? Maybe we can figure out something for you.
Pansy, your new avatar is gorgeous! You look great.
Raye, your new avatar is very mysterious looking and I cannot quite figure out what it is. Looks kind of like a martian in shadow sitting at the control panel of a space ship. Are you trying to outdo Rocktober? LOL
-
raye it looks like your dog is possessed in that picture-- or kind of like a small chimpanzee if I squint my eyes. lol
I can definitely rock the gene simmons boots... If you guys could only see pics of some of the boots I've owned over time... well, you'd get a good laugh.
Tina- you're 100% correct re: the $400 bag. There are great patent purple bags at Aldo for $40. However, I would carry it daily to work and going out. My entire new office wardrobe is gray, black, purple, with hints of green and cream throughout--- and the bag would work for every day wear... plus with the new coat I got too. BUT, it's still not a reason to go buy it (although my b-day is only a week away) I'll keep you posted.
