Did you all hear the Biden gaffe? "Let me tell you what Barack has asked me to do. I have a history of getting things done....he then went on to say, "that Barack has said he wanted me with him to help him govern.... I'll be sitting in the room to give him my best advice."
It went on, but that is exactly what we've been saying. Should we refer to this as a co-Presidency? So which one will be President? I'm sure Rush and others will have a field day with this tomorrow.
Sarah surprised a lot of people out there tonight. I wish she could have fought the voting wars, but that's hard to do. McCain has been in the Senate for years, how can she know all his voting history to argue the facts of why he didn't vote one way or the other on bills. Impossible. But I thought Sarah did exceptionally well.
I have to wait for the Biden fall-out tomorrow, Or should we call him Mr. President?
Two desks in the oval office, one for the clean articulate guy and the other for the real President.
This is soooo good.
-
Sarah rocks!!!!!
Linda
-
Gwen Ifill did an exceptional job.
Rosemary - I was just telling my dd what Biden said about his role as Vice President - Co-President. I could not believe my ears. Isn't that admitting that Obama does not have what it takes to be President so he needs someone with him at all times. Do people realize they would be electing Joe who got fewer votes in the primaries than Sarah got running for mayor of a small town in Alaska?
Sarah was great!
-
I just want to get a look at those Home Depot surveillance camera tapes to see exactly how much time Joe Biden has spent in the store............just curious......ha.......Shokk
-
Suz,
So far no one is picking up on the gaffe, but they will. I have faith. A lot of people didn't hear Obama throw his grandmother under the bus because there was too much leg tingling going on at the time, but it took over and became the story. I think this screw up will find its way to all the blog sites, and it will get a life of its own.
I thought Sarah was great. I've been listening to her on different radio shows leading up to this, and I had a good feeling for this debate. But seeing her say it was much better.
-
I talked to my brother after the debate. He said he doesn't understand why the media didn't pick up something Obama said today about McCain being "unamerican." I didn't see Obama so I can't comment. I believe he was giving a speech or perhaps just stumping. I think the "unamerican" description was possibly about jobs leaving here...I don't know. I'll have to do some research...MORE? lol My brother doesn't lie and has no reason to so I'm pretty sure Obama made that comment.
The debate was superb. I thought Palin was outstanding. I think those conservative columnist can calm down now and apologize for asking Palin to step down.
-
I hope you can see this cause Noonan has not been kind to Palin.
-
Shirley,
I didn't hear anything about Obama today, but Karl Rove said Biden lied at least 10 times on McCain's voting record. He verified them, and will be looking at 8 others tomorrow.
There was something else I picked up on. Biden was making some type of hand gestures while Palin was speaking and they went to full screen on her. I even remarked to my husband that something was up with that. Was Biden mocking her and the control room quickly got the camera off him?
I think all debates should stay split screen during the entire debate. Something went on there and I hope we hear more about it.
-
I missed the first hour because we were out to dinner with a good Young Republican~~~only night we could go, and I think we were afraid to watch. Our DS, age 31, texted his daddy: Palin's HOT~~~she's doing great!!
This is the Lake Tahoe ski bum turned SC builder~~~the pie-in-the-sky changed when he became a businessman!!!
I wish Shirley were running this campaign!!

It's been a busy couple of weeks. I don't get to the boards much and my sister arrives tomorrow for a visit. But I felt compelled ...with all due respect, I offer my observations.
My vote is in the mail…candidates researched before I cast my vote…paid 39.05 euros to mail it…to be certain. The people at Posteitaliane were very curious to know how I cast my vote. “Obama” I said. “Ah si, si, Brave seniora!”, they said. I received the best attention possible to ensure my vote makes it safe to the US.
Just before, I finished to watch the entire VP debate on the BBC web site (it was covered live here at 3 a.m. our time). I noticed on their web site it was rated “The most viewed”. Without doubt, the world is watching “Lo tsunami Americana” very closely, and yes, it matters.
I’m retired and a three-year, breast cancer survivor. My pension is in a money market in the US. The last two weeks were almost as much shock as the diagnosis of cancer. With the help of friends States side, the Internet and DHL delivery service, I sent a little cash here and the rest into a Bank IRA CD, FDIC insured. It was exhausting!
One reference on the economy is my subscription to a newsletter by Richard Russell “Dow Theory Letters” (http://ww1.dowtheoryletters.com/dtlol.nsf). This was one of his comments on 30 Sept.
“I was going to vote for Ron Paul. But now I'm going to vote for Obama. Why? It's simply a vote AGAINST the McCain-Palin ticket. McCain knows absolutely nothing about economics, and Palin has turned into a cartoon, the ultimate arrogant know-nothing. Can you imagine Palin as US President? It would be symbolic of the decline of the US.”
Indeed. This is what many outside the US are saying too. I'm shocked at how forthright financial people are expressing their beliefs in these times.....it's worth considering. -
Blundin,
WIth all due respect, why would I vote for Obama especially in bad economic times? Why would I vote for him on world issues? All his talk of voting AGAINST the Iraq war - he wasn't in the US Senate to cast the vote and that is where the vote mattered. He has certainly not provided any solutions to the economic crisis. Harry Reid, Democratic Senate majority leader, ask for McCain to come back to Washing to help solve the crisis, he says he is going and by the time he got there, they said they had a bill to vote on - when they didn't. Obama goes in the meeting and opens his mouth and apparently there were just about fist fights. McCain goes in and listens and gets them to understand the House Rep. had concerns about the Dems port - funneling money into "community organizer" groups such as ACORN that is involved in voter fraud - the very same group that Obama worked for and filed lawsuits for. His presence gave a voice to the process for those in America that was so frustrated with the bill that they were suggesting. Dems played politics at the highest level - There was no leadership shown by Obama in the entire process. He always sits back and waits to see what develops, hears the "sound" of Americans and then he will make a somewhat sensible statement.
Obama has NO idea how to handle an economic or world crisis. I'm afraid that Americans are going to get the change that they keep talking about - they are going to hate it too. Stay outside the country - you'll be much safer there. I think we will all be wishing we could leave as it will not be the country that I grew up in to pass along to my grandchildren. That scares me. Obama scares me. Palin touched on that last night - the country we leave to our children after an Obama-Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dodd, Schumer led country - well, we will all be sitting around telling them how good it used to be and the rights that we used to have.
There is far to much we DON"T know about Obama - the News organizations are so intent that he get elected, some even calling him Barrak against McCain - they will not talk about the negative things or the unknown things he represents.
You've voted, I will not be casting my vote in the same manner - I can imagine Palin as president equal to Obama as president.
-
So Blundin...just out of cusiosity, whu didn't you post this over there <------------------------- on TPO thread? You won't change any minds here, we know where we stand as well as you know where you and "many outside the U.S. stand."
-
Marilyn,
I'm happy I don't base my vote on a newsletter. Especially when everyone is saying the same thing. You don't raise taxes on small businesses only earning $250K a year. Trump gets it, Wall St. understands it, and we here understand why you don't do this especially while we are teetering on a full blown recession. Just plain ol common sense tells us not to do it. Yet, Obama and friends are hell bent on putting us into a dismal future if he gets his way. Carter did it back in the day. Stagflation was the term they used back then. It took Reagan and his Reaganomics plan many years to get us out of that time and back to fiscal health again.
The only reason why Obama wants to do this is to pay for his out of control $1 Trillion dollar spending plan. We heard that last night. More tax and spend. You can't get any money from people who are without a job. Taxing small businesses does exactly that. It puts people in to unemployment lines. That's right, I forgot, they tax unemployment benefits. Maybe that's in his plan for our future, raise that tax too.
Tax the oil companies so they don't have the extra funds to drill. Each platform costs $1 Billion to build. If we are to drill, right now we don't have any platforms to just put in place. They all have to be built from scratch. Exxonmobil pays the most in taxes today then any other company. I forget the percentage, but it's huge. It's more than what 40% of what the gov't gets in from the lower income payers. Anyway, Obama voted to give them their tax break, McCain didn't.
I could go on, but if I were to give my vote for someone who wouldn't put us into a recession, it would be for McCain. That's economics 101.
I will go on anyway. The reason why we went into a full blown depression in '29 was because Hoover didn't bail out Wall St. I know Biden thought it was FDR, but what can we say. So as we ponder what goes on in D.C. today, it's a necessary evil if we don't want to relive those nasty days again.

Naniam-You took the words right out of my mouth. But you forgot to stresssss the dems had a much bigger hand in this economic mess than the republicans do. Blundin, you need to check our thread and look at all the links we have given that prove how much they were in bed with Fannie and Freddie. Did you notice that the former CEO of Fannie is one of Obama's advisors? And look at our links that prove guys like Frank and Dodd were denying that there was a problem. Do you realize that it was John McCain, not Obama, not Biden, who tried to pass a bill to oversee F & F but the bill was voted down by the same dems who you think know how to fix our economy. Yeah, they will put in a fix alright-for their Wall street buddies who contribute to their campaigns. Oh, I guess you missed that part too-that most of wall street, with all their money, goes to the democrats. Do you really want the foxes guarding the henhouse? Who cares if the Europeans like our president? Tell me one president that they have ever liked? They only liked clinton after he cheated on his wife. Then he was one of them. I love Europe, my ancestry is from that beautiful country that you are living in, but I do not want to be anything like Europe. My grandfather was so proud to become an American because he had no opportunity to have a descent life in Italy.Obviously, I cannot change your vote, nor do I care to, I just think you should know the facts. If you think you lost a lot of money recently, wait til we have a democratic house, senate, and presidency. Inflation here we come. The return of the Carter era is upon us.
Meanwhile OUR ROCK STAR IS BACK! She did exactly what she needed to do. She missed a few opportunities to call Biden on some of his fabrications, but she was in charge of the whole thing from the get go! And Biden's fake tears. Give me a break. I know the elitist on the coasts and in the EU, will continue to blast Palin, but those of us in the heartland like the fact that she is one of us. She is our Oprah. Someone we can relate to, comes from where we came from, and is proud of it, even when others turn their nose up at us. The reason that she will make a great president someday is because she is one of the folks. She will be ridiculed of course by the media, and hollywood elite, but that is why we love her. Go Sarah! You no longer need to take on the good ole boys. Next target: elitist snobs!
-
-
LindaMemm, I am on the east coast (Massachusetts) and am not blasting Palin.
-
Rosemary, I taped the debate. I will watch it again and see if I can tell if Biden is "hand gesturing." I also heard a little of what Rove said. I think that may be on tape too. MY PROBLEM..getting ready for a trip to Charlotte. You ladies will have to keep me informed so I can read when I get back. Going to my dd's is like I'm out of touch with the world. So busy and her dh and mine HAVE to watch all the ESPN statiions. It's maddening. I may be able to sneak up to the TV, but with the gks..well, you know..I'M BUSY! LOL I'l be in withdrawals big time.
-
Linda, you are so right about McCain trying to get a bill to be voted on that would have reformed Fannie and Freddie but was blocked by Barney Franks - Democrat. He now denies having anything to do with the entire mess - Chris Dodd too. Videos going around on youtube that shows Barney Franks saying two years ago that Freddie and Fannie were sound - lots of people bought stock there and lost everything and the man will NOT admit he played any part in that or made those remarks.
NC Senator Elizabeth Dole was a cosponsor on the bill with John McCain.

Blundin, where have you been. You truly believe it's this administration that caused all of these problems. I'm telling EVERYONE to take their damned blinders off. I don't have much time because I'm leaving for Charlotte. I hope you come back here. I'm going to post a few more YouTube videos. It's out of the mouths of those democrat babes. The do the blame thing. Have you truely research what the hell is going on? The dems have brought his country down and now you are voting for the most inexperienced LIBERAL there is. All I can say is GOD HELP US! However, one good thing about it...we can sit back and cry and say...we told you so.
Thanks for your vote of confidence that you think Obama and Biden can lead us out of this crisis. Isn't it wonderful the be and American. And isn't wonderful Obama can sign up all these college kids who have done NO, NO, NO research into their candidate. They like him because he talks pretty. and says CHANGE, HOPE..yada yada...they sing his praises. What's happening is almost fraud. They're bound and determined to win no matter what. They know COLLEGE KIDS won't vote unless you stand over them.
Good luck with your money. I'm going out shopping to buy us a big huge box and take the new insulation my dh had put underneath our house. Wt least we'll have an insulated house!
BTW, I really don't care what other people over in other countries think of our country. We are great and I LOVE AMERICA! And I'm so happy that I live here..well, if Obama doesn't socialize us!

Ponder on This .. (the title of a good book by the way) ….. pull up this newsletter I mentioned or others like it, and you’ll find the details behind the economists warnings that we are going down that “nasty” road again NO MATTER WHO IS ELECTED. This is what they all agree.
Next year will be very hard.
Now…do you want Bush economics? Again? I want to see the middle class rebuilt so that my children and the country have a world-class future!
I know I know. We can go around and around. So many here love this sniping and some even take extra shots at the fact that I live outside of the country. It’s good reason not to visit here too often but for the few who I do enjoy to read and share comments.
Best wishes to all as always.

I don't know if these are in order.
McCain's Early Recognition of Fannie/Freddie Crisis
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63siCHvuGFg
Barney Frank: "Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not in a crisis situation."
"The more people in my judgment exaggerate the threat of safety and soundness, the more people conjure up the possibility of serious financial losses to the treasury, which i do not see. I think we see entities that are fundamentally sound financially and withstand some of the disaster scenarios. Even if there were a problem, the federal government does not bail them out. But the more pressure there is, the less we see in terms of affordable housing."Inside Look: Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac
WHAT AN IDIOT! Democrats wanted to lend to people who couldn't afford it. DO YOU RESEARCH and do not LET ANYONE BLAME THE REPUBLICANS. They have been warning that this was coming. Take off your blinders! (my comment)

Now a "humorous" piece.
Comic Relieved
A women's shelter in Boston has canceled an appearance by comedian Sandra Bernhard at its annual fundraiser after some startling comments about Sarah Palin. Bernhard said during a show in Washington, D.C., last month that if Palin ever visited New York she would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers." Bernhard also lashed out at plain for opposing abortion rights.
But her act did not sit well with officials at Rosie's Place, a women's shelter that provides help for victims of violence. Director of Public Relations Leemarie Mosca says, "We don't think violence against women is a laughing matter... that means not including Sarah Bernhard at this time."
Bernhard has not apologized, but a statement on her Web site says she wishes Palin no harm. She ads, "I'd just like her to explain to me how she can hold such outrageous views... and then go back to Alaska."
- FOX News Channel's Zachary Kenworthy contributed to this report.

Special Ed
The Virginia affiliate of the National Education Association is getting criticism over an e-mail encouraging members to wear blue in support of Senator Obama, canvas on his behalf and advocate for him in the classroom.
The Washington Times reports the union asked members to recognize Tuesday as "Obama Blue Day" and "register two voters or talk to two people who may be on the fence or a McCain supporter and sway them to become an Obama supporter."
Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeffrey Frederickcalls the e-mail "an abuse of taxpayer resources that teachers chose to use school grounds as a political base."
The e-mail's author Dorris Boitnott now concedes the note should have been worded differently, saying, "Teachers know they are not allowed to partake in partisan activities during school hours."

I was listening to Bernie Goldberg (thanks that's his name) and he said when some people hear Palin's name they have this "Derangement Syndrome." LOL He called it a mental disorder. "Derangement Syndrome" was coined by Charles K...he's on Brit Hume's show...can't spell his last name. He's a journalist and is a psychiatrist with a degree from Harvard. Anyway, Bernie was saying that people would say, when they hear Palin's name (probably the syndrome was coined first for the Bush haters) they say things like, I want to jump out the window when I hear her name, .or when they hear her name they say, I get physically sick. Guess what, ladies! I have this Derangement Syndrome when I hear BO's name.
Now, I've got to get the heck outta hear. My little gd called me and said she wanted us there early so I could pick her up form kindergarten.

I'm going to miss you, girls.
Right now you are the glue that's holding me together. DAMN the democrats for getting us in the mess. And, Clinton too. I don't have time to show where Clinton came in on this. However, I think it's back there on page number..........Bye!
