Okay, the little guy doing the videos is precious.
I may try some boot cut jeans. I don't know how long to wear them.
Same with skinnies. One of the models was shown wearing skinnies with high platforms but the lenght of the pants was soo long and just bunched up at the ankles. Is that THE look? Can you wear it if you're not 25 yo?
I have been thinking of some of those retro basketball type sneakers, actually. Not in a funky print, though. Probably solid color, but which?
-
If you wanted to do a retro sneaker I would go with converse. You can get low tops and they come in a million colors and prints-- some of the prints are subtle and soft.
-
Hello Ladies, since shoes were mentioned I wanted to ask your opinion on these
http://www.fancyfeetcustomshoes.com/personalized-pink-ribbon-sneakers
It is my design and a couple hundred hours of code.

I agree with Beth about Converse and they do have a million colors, my favorite being red. Those jeans are gorgeous and I love the Fall colors, with more mauve-ish and purple than ever. I also love the look of the boots over the skinny jeans!

Beth..LOl..I'm glad you like it..it's so funny..and so true!

I have a question for you all about men's jeans. My BF has an awesome body including a tiny, cute ass and amazing "Usher abs." I love him in jeans but he wears the dorkiest LL Bean or JC Penney's brands (ugh!). Not knowing anything about men's jeans, I can't properly advise him regarding a more contemporary (read "hotter") look. Can anyone suggest some decent brands and models for guys? He doesn't want to pay alot because he thinks that jeans shouldn't be pricey, but I could probably sell him on something less than $100.
Ideas? I can't deal with that little boy/Farmer Joe look anymore!

I hope you ladies don't mind if I chime in. I think that I'm ready to start living beyond breastcancer so I'm exploring the different topics on this site. To answer the jean question, I have my husband wear Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger(sp?) and Timberland. He has a bigger upper body meaning broad shoulders (former football player) and has the "V" shape so his legs are a little smaller even though he's over 6'5". Usually those brands fit nice but some of thier styles are loose fitting which you have to be selective when buying. You will definitely find those for under $100 and usually I find them for under $50 if they're on sale at one of the outlets or malls. I've seen a few men/guys wearing tighter fitting jeans lately (their rear ends looked rear nice!) but I wasn't close enough to their back end to notice the brand but next time will definitely make it a point to walk behind them to get a better look
. Good luck.
Thank you Beth for staring this topic. I have been so out of the "fashion" seen since being diagnosed in January but it's time I get back into the swing of things. Wearing outdated clothes can add years to your age and I don't want to do that especially with just turning 39 the end of July.
-
Marin, so what's wrong with LL Bean jeans??? LOL My favorite thing.
Well, I know what you mean about farmer jeans. My dh won't wear anything but the classic Levi's; he thinks anything else is queer. That goes for sandals and riding bicycles, too. ROFL. He even has a pact with a buddy to never wear those things. Doesn't eat tofu either...........What a guy. I'll keep him.
Liz, glad to see you here. Join in *anytime* you want. This is for fun.
I just visited the More magazine site for fashion after 40 hints. Not bad, really. Fashion for grown-up women, not dowdy.
-
Marin- Mavi jeans, Seven jeans... that's what M. wears.
-
I don't think a guy can find a better looking behind than in Levi's. They were made to fit the bum and any guy who doesn't need "loose fit", looks great in these.
-
Well, my guy does have a cute, little bum. (Why don't they have cellulite there???) And you should see him do the shower dance. LOL
-
Why no cellulite in the male species? Muscle, my dear, muscle- they have less much body fat than us fair ladies. Perhaps the answer is testosterone.
My husband wears Levi's as well. He has a cute little butt as well, with broad shoulders and muscular legs.
Raye
-
Actually Levi's are an all round classic choice. I forgot about them
.... As Iodine said, anyone who doesn't need a loose fit, they do fit great. My husband wears Levi's to work and the others I mentioned earlier when we're out.
It's got to be the testosterone that prevents cellulite on men, it only makes sense. I've seen girls who regularly work out and are thin, have cellulite on the back of their thighs. I remember reading in a fitness magazine that a good indicator if we'll develope cellulite as we age is to look at our mother's legs..
. That's a scary thought and makes me motivated to keep working out
. I know that sounds bad but it's the truth.
-
Well, cellulite is a topic about which I actually know a thing or two and as unfair as it is, it's the underlying tissue structural difference between men and women that cause women to be more prone (though some men do get it too...a little). Here's a brief explanation:
Cellulite is caused by irregular patterns of connective tissue beneath the skin, and as the adipose (fatty) tissue, which forms in compartments of little honeycombs, pushes into the skin, it causes the dimpling of cellulite. It has been shown that people who have cellulite have different patterns of connective tissue than people who don't, and men tend to have this pattern much less than women. Cellulite is not directly a function of excess weight, but a genetic difference in the way adipose tissue and connective tissue form. In fact, cellulite affects people whether they are overweight or not. Biochemically, cellulite does not behave any differently than other fat, and there is no health risk from cellulite (some evidence even suggests that lower extremity fat is protective against chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease).
And a more elaborate one: http://www.drlenkravitz.com/Articles/cellulite.html
Sigh....yet another inequity. Thank god we're superior in nearly every other way!
Thanks for the jeans tips. I'm passing them along. In the meantime, he sent me a pic of himself in his Arizonas....w/o a shirt and he looks amazing! I put it up as my desktop background here at work. Maybe he doesn't need new jeans after all!

All I ever wanted to know about cellulite. Thanks, girls. ShiRt. Must start jumping rope again. Marin, I want some lightweight, cushie shoes for that but where to find them and what are they called? I have been using my old walking shoes, Nike or something, but they feel like clodhoppers on my feet when jumping.
I was just out shopping. Slim pickins locally, only that crummy, small Macy's and a Sears. Target other side of town and school buses were due so I didn't go there. I'm looking for a skinny, black belt, preferably shiny. Are any of you familiar with Brighton? http://www.brighton.com/ They have some nice belts. What do you think about the Champagne Reversible? It's to go over my new sweater when worn with the b&w skirt. http://www.brightonretail.com/store/wishlist.php?m=product_detail&p=41500 Any others on the site that you like? It is darn hard to find a decent belt!
WooHoo, Raye is back. We are all envisioning your hunky dh, lady. Better keep that one locked up tight.
-
I like the Bali Shine belts - very cool and I really like that off white colored one.
I liked these shoes so much I bought them in beige and black. They are pretty high but with the strap, I could run in them, so comfortable. They look awesome with jeans, skirts, dress paints, dresses, naked - anything.

Tina....For jumping and stuff like that, I recommend cheer shoes. Check these out:
http://www.zappos.com/n/es/d/722003290/page/1.html
You could learn a few low-impact dance moves, like hamstring curls with grapevines, walking kneee lifts, etc. and alternate these with several minutes of jumping rope. This would give you a great, fat-burning, safe & effective interval workout. Then do a bunch of squats to target your legs (use an exercise ball against the wall to protect your knees). And of course abs....
Sorry....didn't mean to hijack the fashion chat. Um, how about these Tom Boy shorts: http://zeta.zappos.com/product/7397696/color/99801 ...and this top: http://zeta.zappos.com/product/7358206/color/3

Raye, I agree on the belt. I was hoping for a skinnier belt, but I cannot seem to find one I like.
Your shoes are definitely sexy. Love the peep toes, which even *I* know are big fashion right now.
Marin, cheer shoes!!! Perfect. You have opened up a whole, new world to me. I did not know such things existed. They must be great for jumping if they take the heat from cheering. I like the Nike ones best of all. They don't have the thickest soles but I imagine that with Nike technology they absorb a lot of the impact. Must order today. Thanks.
And, the tom boy shorts! OMG, if I could squish my fat arse into those I wouldn't be jumping rope. LOL

Target has the Cutest belts. We ahave such huge Targets around here--- they may have more in stock then the ones by you...
I have to go there over the weekend so I'll take a look and see what I find.
-
omg- I just spent a ridiculous amount of money at Target- (but I bought M. a suit, so that was part if it) and I would've spent more had they had stock in things I needed.
Tina-- I found three belts that are skinny. One flat leather, two patent. The only sizes they had out were a SM, and XL, XXL. I figure you need a medium. I tried on the XL and it was huge. The L fit me just right, but they only had it in red... I will keep my eye open for when they restock it. They all had silver buckles. One of the patent one wasn't a straight belt, it was broken up my horizontal silver squares (there were about four of them on the belt). I like the plain ones better.
Can you take a Small, or do you need the medium? I bought so many clothes, that I'm sure I'll have to return or exchange something over the weekend, and I can pick you up a belt if they're back in stock.
SOO- I bought ten tops. Since my office is going to be finished in 2-3 weeks, I need to start buying more professional attire. I have some nice staples in my closet like pants, and jackets, but I needed tops. Back in the days before I officed out of home, I bought all my work clothes from INC at Macy's. The tops from there range from $50-$80. The tops I got from Target ranged from $15-$40! And at the end of the season if they look ratty I'll toss them and not feel bad.
I got great layering pieces in black, cream, gray, and purple... all colors that can be mixed and matched, and look good with multiple pant colors, and totally works with my makeup colors.
Now I need to find one more pair of black shoes... I know, I know. But I need a slightly smaller heel then my going out shoes for the office.
Also, just got the white house black market small dress catalogue. EVERY SINGLE PAGE is STUNNING!!! The dress on the last page is the one my sister wore to my engagement party if any of you have the catalogue. The shoes and dresses are so beautiful. I wish I had somewhere to wear one to.
-
Thanks for looking, Beth. Size. Well, it depends. The nice black patent one I tried on when I bought my suity stuff was a medium and way too big. I don't know if the brand runs large or not. I suppose I would have to try them on. I may go to Worcester today on a mission for dh (a tool, of course) and if I do will try to get to our Target. Will at least try some belts on to check for size. Who knows? They may have just the thing for me.
Big excitement. I just discovered a new shopping center about an hour's drive from here in CT. Called Evergreen Walk, it is just beyond the Buckland Hills Mall. That's an easy drive for me down Rt. 84. No real traffic to speak of until you hit that area and than Hartford. I won't go there to day, but maybe at the beginning of the week. They have a Brighton. And a White House Black Market! Must go soon.
Beth, will you be working in the city or on the island? A long commute? How cool to have good reason to buy lots of new clothes.
Oh, almost forgot. Ordered some cheer shoes from Zappos. They upgraded the shipping for some reason and I will have them on Monday. Must tune up ye olde jumprope.
-
Abbadoddles-
I'm from CT too. I don't know if your familiar with the area but there's a Target by the Buckland Hills Mall. Yes, Evergreen Walk is a very nice shopping center. But I've only been to LL Bean and Pottery Barn on a specific mission. One day when I have some time I need to just spend the day there shopping. They also have cute corner cafes there too.
-
Mission accomplished. Got a black patent belt at Target. TaDa. I may have the chance to wear my new stuff tomorrow. I hope I don't kill myself walking in those heels.
Also bought a kind of nice cotton/lycra cardigan, lightweight, with horizontal strips of black and gray. It'll look nice with my other stuff. Of course, I just may look like Ronald McDonald, too!
Liz, I'm in MA, but only about an hour from Manchester. I had been planning on going to the Joann's there soon. That Evergreen Walk sweetens the deal. The only thing I don't like about shopping in CT is the 7% sales tax (ours is 5% and there is no tax on clothing purchases up to $250. Is it the same in CT?).
-
T- I got the same belt for myself today too. I figure it will pretty much go with everything. I also picked up a cute sweater dress (ombre goes from pink to purple) and two pair of opaque super thick black tights.
-
You ladies are making me itch to go shopping
.
Abbadoodles-I think you realized that CT is the tax me to no end state but our current tax rate is 6% for clothing and shoes above $50 or $75. Isn't it sad that I can't remember, I rather not look at the tax I pay on my receipt, that way it hurts less
. You know how the saying goes...ignorance is bliss
. I didn't realize that Mass is up to $250. Is this for a single clothing purchase or total purchase? If single clothing, then I think that I need to visit the outlets up there. Mass has outlets not too far from the CT state line...right?? I used to work with somone who used to go shopping to outlets is Mass but can't remember where she said they were located. I usually go to Clinton, CT and Westbrook. CT since they have the outlets there but for higher priced items I'm probably better off going to Mass.
I am a Target addict too. I have one within 5 minutes of my house. I live out in the country but am fortunate that Target and a mall are in the next town over from me which is about 5 minutes away. The only problem now is that my daugher who is 11(going on 16!) only wants to shop at stores such as American Eagle, Aeropostale, Hollister etc. She's starting to drive me crazy
.
-
Enjoy your shopping--don't come down south, our tax is 10% on everything!
-
Iodine-
10% on everything, OUCH!!!!!!!
! Actually with the high price of gas, lately I've been buying more things on line but it's not as fun
and it is time consuming too, atleast for me it is. However, I do go to Target, any chance I get
.
-
Liz, I lied. I just checked and the exemption is only $175.00. I could swear it used to be $250. Also, tax is due only on the amount over $175 per item. So, yes, it's a better deal than in CT. Also, I apologize for tacking on and additional % for CT. I see that you do have a $50 exemption on clothing but if the item costs more than that $50, you pay tax on the entire amount! Wow. What a ripoff. I wonder where all the casino money is going in your state. You guys should be rolling in dough, since you have the world's highest grossing casino there. It's all a mystery to me.
Dotti, 10%!!! Do you have state income tax? We do. That may be the diff. Are you shopping for your upcoming vacation?
Beth, speaking of tights, what's the diff between microfiber tights and regular lycra ones, like the Hue?
-
We only have a state income tax on unearned income, IE: stock dividends, etc.
I'm not shopping for vac. --- would rather do that when I get to the big city or some sweet botique. I shop all year round for Christmas gifts, so that should be fun.
-
Soooooo...I am going away for a 4-day "vacation" to what apparently is known as the "redneck Riviera," Destin, FL. We're staying in a friend's condo right on the Gulf and I'm so psyched to be spending what I'm thinking of as the final days of Summer (even though today is actually the first day of Fall) with P. in a beachy setting. We plan to sun & swim & eat a ton of seafood and...well, you know
! So I've bought a new bikini from VS, a red halter dress and have a pair of white city shorts that I haven't been able to get into since chemo (they still have the tags on!) and hope to wear on our flight down on Thursday. Here's the bikini:
And the dress (but in red):
The dress is for dinner and it IS a beach town. Do you think white strappy espadrilles or black wedge sandals would look best?
