Who would have thought that abortion would rise to one of the top issues in this election?
It will be now. Palin announced that her seventeen year old unmarried daughter is pregnant and will marry the father.
Palin released this statement:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.”

And, Susie, McCain knew about it. I say, SO? Her dd wasn't in the WH getting a BJ (sorry to be so explicit), and yet the liberals say...oh, that's his personal life. Like hell it is! He's talking on the phone while having "sex." ARGGHHHH
This campaign is getting ugly, ugly, ugly. The dems have shown their true color. A woman is chosed, and all hell breaks loose.
Oh, I want to remnd dems that no matter how good a mom you are your kid CAN ge pregnant. She cannot control her hormones. One of my pastor's dd got pregnant out of wedlock. I said, SO! It could have happend with my three girls. Preachers cheat on their wives. That's when I do NOT say SO! They are to keep their pants zipped while in the ministry. I expect no less of the president of the United States.
I think we should rename this thread to the McCain/Palin lovers...LOL Just kidding, of course.
Bye, bye Blue. You are welcome to post your comments here. It is tough when reading other threads about politics that are attacking YOUR nominee not to comment on the some of the posts. It's really hard!

Gee, Rosemary, I didn't see anything wrong with you "presenting" that video. It had NOTHING to do with his speech impediment..he had that when he was MUCH younger.

McCain Knew before he asked Palin
from Reuters:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Senior McCain campaign officials said McCain knew of the daughter's pregnancy when he selected Palin last week as his vice presidential running mate, deciding that it did not disqualify the 44-year-old governor in any way.
In the short period since she was announced last Friday, Palin has helped to energize the Republican Party's conservative base, giving the McCain camp fresh energy going into the campaign for the November 4 election against Democrat Barack Obama.
McCain officials said the news of the daughter's pregnancy was being released to rebut what one aide called "mud-slinging and lies" circulating on liberal blog sites.
According to these rumors, Sarah Palin had faked a pregnancy and pretended to have given birth in May to her fifth child, a son named Trig who has Down syndrome. The rumor was that Trig was actually Bristol Palin's child and that Sarah Palin was the grandmother.
A senior McCain campaign official said the McCain camp was appalled that these rumors had not only been spread around liberal blog sites and partisan Democrats, but also were the subject of heightened interest from mainstream news media.
"The despicable rumors that have been spread by liberal blogs, some even with Barack Obama's name in them, is a real anchor around the Democratic ticket, pulling them down in the mud in a way that certainly juxtaposes themselves against their 'campaign of change,'" a senior aide said.

I debated about responding to Blue but since she isn't reading here anymore I will because I am really offended that she would call us racist. I have said many times that I would love to see a black president, just not one who was raised by the dirty Chicago political machine and associates with a large cast of shady characters. I wonder if she would back Colin Powell or Condoleeza Rice. Would we call her a racist for not doing so? The left hates Rice, even though she is an incredibly smart woman who has worked so hard for this country, but since she is a Republican, she gets no credit. The hypocrisy of the left is unbelievable. That is why this McCarthy and Carter voter, former democratic robot, finally got wise to what the dems were all about. It is always doom and gloom with them. I can't wait for the Republican convention to start so that I can hear how great this country is.
Let's just see what a field day the press will have with Palin's daughter. They have always respected the children of the candidates, will they with her? They still treat Chelsea with kid gloves, though she is closing in on 30. If they go after this girl, it will really infuriate people and backfire. I feel so badly for her. It must be tough enough to be 17 and pregnant without being center stage. Of course there will a lot of the good ole boys piping in that if Palin was at home with her kids, instead of running the state, whis would have never happened.
They are so mad that Palin's nomination has stolen Obama's thunder that they will stop at nothing. How sad.

Check out CSPAN. Arianna Huffington is on arguing that Keith Olberman deals in facts, not Bill Orielly. It is hilarious. That woman is crazy.

I found this bloggers comments on HumanEvents and since it is from one of Palin's soldiers, I thought it was worth posting:
I often hear "never left the US" or "no foreign relations experience".
Commander and Chief Sarah Palin visiting her troops in the Middle East:
http://asecondhandconjecture.com/index.php/2008/08/30/sarah-palin-kuwait-gallery/
Foreign Relations:
Iraq/Kuwait/Afganistan/Kosovo (her troops get sent there, she gets briefed constantly on their mission, well being, and what is going on in that country that could affect her Alaskan troops)
Canada (gas pipeline; immigration/customs crack down at the border)
Russia (few miles off AK's coast)
Mongolia (her troops train Mongolian troops EVERY YEAR)
International Waters (Alaska has the biggest coast line and the best fishing waters on this side of the planet...foreign boats cruise around her waters all the time which can turn into an international situation if an emergency arises...she has to know what is going on not only in her state but around it)
N. Korea (her Ground Missile Defense system that her troops run protect the West from N. Korean nuclear attack...she is briefed on this by generals and thus probably briefs the President as well)
Anti-terrorism. She has to keep the oil pipeline safe from terrorism. When they found pics of the Valdez oil pipeline and the port in a cave in Afganistan they sent us AK Army Guard troops to guard it, train on anti-terrorism measures, etc. She is our Commander and Chief and is ultimately responsible for anti-terrorism measures in AK.

One of the papers only last week said the same thing, if we aren't voting for Obama we are racists. In plain print. Simple as that. Some don't have an original thought in their head, just what they hear on TV. The same with Alan Colmes, he only talks about the dems talking points and he quotes from them too. Brainless. Now, please don't tell me he had a lobotomy.
Just for the record, Biden had a speech impediment when he was younger? I didn't know that, anyway it was my attempt to sound drunk. I hope it's ok to say that, since that's what the video was about.

This whole not a "good mother" tact is gooing to sooooooo backfire on the Democratic party.........Need to take care of my Blood pressure......

Interesting:
I was wondering why the name was familiar---It was because of Hillary's brother.......
A Leading Hillary Supporter (John Coale) Defects to McCain
Posted by admin
September 1, 2008
John Coale, a prominent Washington lawyer, husband of Fox TV host Greta Van Susteren and a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, announced today that he was supporting John McCain for president. Coale, who traveled with Sen. Clinton, President Clinton and her family through out the primary season, complained of sexism, and said the Democratic Party is “being taken over by the moveon.org types” in an exclusive interview with Newsweek.com’s Tammy Haddad. He said he tried to prevent Clinton’s brother, Tony Rodham, from attending an August 18th meeting in Scranton, Pa. with McCain campaign surrogate Carly Fiorina. “I urged him not to go and told him it would embarrass his sister, but he has a mind of his own.” Coale says Mr. Rodham asked Ms. Fiorina “about McCain’s Supreme Court picks.” -
A little bit of levity--and maybe rewriting history! LOL
-
I was a little leary of posting here since I am a Democrat and like that party. But I shocked when I read about Palin's daughter being pregnant. I was curious how the Republican party would respond. I personally don't care a bit about her pregnancy because these kids today find sex as more of a game than intimacy between a couple that loves each other. But back to my point, I was curious to see how you all felt because I have always seen republicans as conservative and as that children getting pregnant is just not the way its supposed to work. I'm promise, I'm not here to bash or cause an uproar just wanted to see how you all felt and I guess if you feel it's ok, doesn't that go away from that conservative platform that is always associated with the party. Ok, I said my peace and will read your comments respectfully here, then I will run away because this place is too much politics for me! I can't wait for the elections to be over and back to tide commericials LOL
-
Oh and I forgot to add one thing. I did read a couple of comments that someone said you would be racist if you didn't vote for Obama. I personally feel that is a bunch of BULL and whoever would say that is more the racist. It is up to each person who they prefer to be in the highest office in our land. Just because a party has the white house does not mean they get their way with everything, there is a senate and house to contend with. Ok, now I'm done really

As a conservative christian I do not find this much of a story. Our ex-minister's daughter got pregnant out of wedlock a few years ago. He lives in our neighborhood. I found this out while I was in one of the most gossip groups...beauty shop. One lady whispered it to me. I thought..so what! It could have happened to any of my three dds. Then, my beautician who is also a conservative Christian says..well, I guess he (the preacher) can't preach on that subject anymore since his dd is pregnant. I thought, WHAT!!? Sure he can. Just because his dd got pregnant doesn't change how HE feels about pregnancy out of wedlock. What many conservatives believe is IF one gets pregnant keep the baby instead of aborting. I'm not speaking for all the women on this board who are conservatives, nor am I speaking for the entire Conservative, Republican party. I feel badly for the young woman that she has been put in this situation, but I hope Obama put a stop to this gossip. I'm giving him credit for saying his campaign did not put this out there and if he finds out anyone in his campaign had anything to do with it he'll fire them. So, I hope this is the END to this story.
I think it's absolutely ridiculous!
Shirley
-
Shirley, I would hope the campaign didn't leak it, but we all know how bad the media is to dig up dirt on anyone. And you are right, the young girl is going to be the only one to suffer.
-
I agree with Shirley. It's how she is handling the situation that I am most interested in. It could happen to any of us as parents. If she is supporting her dd, making sure she is still loved, and helps with the situation, then she is doing exactly what I would do. I wouldn't be happy, but I would love my child and the child she is carrying with all my heart. It's discouraging to me that we were told to leave Obama's family out of the campaign, but is Palin going to be given the same courtesy? I saw that Obama denounced the treatment of Palin's family, for which I am glad.
Again, I feel that Palin is putting her money where her mouth is by supporting her daughter in a less than ideal situation. As someone who does not approve of abortion, there are now 2 instances where she has stood up for her belief. I respect her greatly for her courage in facing this publicly. My family went through a similar situation when my dad just took his first call as pastor of a church. My unmarried, teenage sister announced her pregnancy only one week before my parents left for their church. It was difficult, but ultimately the members of the congregation recognized that it made my dad more human, someone who could relate to them, who's family wasn't perfect, but was still able to be a shepherd of their flock. He was pastor of that church for 22 years.
-
Came to read and catch up.
I am NOT voting for Obama - am I racist because I don't. How utterly ridiculous and ignorant to utter such a comment. I have profound differences with Obama. I was taught the difference between a Democracy/capitalistic and socialist/government owned business.. When Obama starts talking about "equal distribution of wealth" that is not a democracy - that is socialism. When he talks about taking the obscene profits from the oil companies and giving them to the people - that is not capitalism - that is a government take over of a company - just as Russia did to their wealth oil guy and his business several years ago. These obscene profits are taxed and paid to our government AND to many people who work and have retirement accounts, if Exxon or others are owned, they make money off the profits; it is called dividends AND these profits also create new jobs.
So to say I'm racist - you not even in touch with reality. I'm not voting for Obama because for me - I'm voting for Democracy and the life we know instead. Obama "change" is not the change I am interested in.
LuAnn, having raised a daughter, no matter how much you talk to them, educated them and try to provide good morals they are kids and hormones fly and girls get pregnant. It happened when I was in school and it happens now. I am sure Palin will be criticized for not "being at home more and caring only about her career; how this happened as her daughter was crying for attention". It happens. It happens to older "young" people - people in their 20's. I've know many and many of them are active in church. Had this happened to my daughter, I could never have taken her for an abortion - because I had such a very difficult time conceiving and I just could not have turned around and aborted a child. Conservative in my views, yes, but not a "right winger". Palin is dealing with what many Moms worry about and what really happens in many families. I feel for the daughter that now the entire world will be talking. I truly don't know if this will make a difference to the voters. I just know Palin is dealing with this with the grace, dignity and unconditional love that I hope that I would in the same situation.
Some of the real left wing bloggers are being very, very cruel. I was glad to see Obama come out and say that his mom was 18 when she had him. I'm sure he heard taunts growing up as his parents were never married.
I am truly upset with the sexism that has existed since this nomination - it has been refreshing to see some Democratic women that supported Hillary that are on TV be upset with the blatant sexism that has been shown.

One of the best preachers I ever listened to and loved used to be on the streets, getting into trouble. We adored him. My children adored him. My husband adored him. Then, he left the church to help grow another church in Georgia. I couldn't understand why because the church here was still growing. And, guess what. He is now the president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Like Sherri said about her parents having a child that was pregnant and not married, they become more human. That's one reason why I belief our pastor was so well loved. He could relate with humans being human.
I know many people on this board detest Jerry Falwell. I loved him dearly. He walked the walk and talked the talk. He could go into a restaurant and walk into their bar, shake hands with people, talk to them. He was an atheist before he became a Christian. He may strongly disagree with one, but he did it with a smile. When he died even the guy from Hustler Mag (can't remember his name right now) payed his respects. They strongly disagreed with each other, but I truly believe Falwell cared about this man and the Hustler guy cared about Falwell.
Conservatives or Christians aren't exempt from doing wrong. Everyone on this earth is human. But the Bible says, ye without sin cast the first stone. And now the dems are casting boulders.

Trust me I don't fault Palin because her daughter got pregnant, I think I made that clear earlier. In fact, I have no room to talk either, my son came to me at 19 two weeks home from basic training and had a girl pregnant. They are now married and have two babies (of course the 2nd was concieved 3 weeks after the first was born UGGHHH....kids LOL) I really was curious of thoughts because I was always under the impression that the conservatives didn't like that or were against it. Even as a democrat I do not believe in aborotion, to me that is almost a moral decision more than a political but everyone has their own views on that and I have not intruded to debate, just a friendly little discussion. Thank you so much for your views but I am out of here, some of you all's comments I can't get on board with and I don't want to end up in a cat fight
So thank you ladies, have a good evening and just remember I'm from Ohio, we are usually one of the last deciding states in these close elections LOL gee....I am debating on voting for Mickey Mouse myself (attempt at light humor
)

I really do respect the liberals that have the courage to take a stand on just how poor a mother the AK Governor is. All of them must surely be blessed to have such good mothers themselves , mothers to make sure that a liberal never had sex in high school. And the liberal can prove to the everybody, that once they started teaching kids how to put condoms on bananas twenty years ago, that dropped teen age pregnacies down to like plus 400%. A liberal is to be respected, they know what is what and facts or reality will never cause them to wavier.
Cheney, Newt have gay kids,Palin's child is pregnant at 17. The only news in those facts, that the parents still love and respect their children and support their decisions and life styles. Obama in high school, admits to alcohol, cocain, and pot abuse, but is given a pass because that was his rebelous years at 17 and 18.
-
LuAnn, I hope you'll come back. I believe right now everyone is quite passionate about what's going on. If you go over to the Obama thread you'll see their passion runs just a deep. I don't believe it was the intent of the posters to attack you. It's how each of us see this world and the hyprocrisy coming from the left. Now some of them are trying to imply that Palin isn't a good mother because she didn't spend the time with her chidlren...thus her dd got pregnant. That's a cheap shot. And we are angry! So, if our passion comes across as being harsh with you it's not you..it's the attacks..the horrible attacks against this woman and her pregnancy and now the pregnancy of her dd and Palin being questioned whether she can be VP and have five children...
I have never known you to be controversial. You've always tried to be the peace maker. I appreciate your question and wanting to understand how the conservatives think. We think like any other human being. We have family issues like every other family including the dems. We are not saints. Our political views are much different than the dems on most everything. And our party (the repubs) makes mistakes.
Shirley
-
Dukakis tries to figure out just what Obama has achieved. LOL Hoping that people from the other thread see this.
-
Ok Shirley, I couldn't help but take one more peek here tonight....I better watch out curosity killed the cat LOL I actually have not read a story about anyone accusing her of being a bad mother and it is a fact of todays society that both parents pretty much must work to sustain a decent living. So I am not sure where that stuff is coming from but what counts is what the people hearing think and perceive of it. And personally as a person who will not vote republican (Kind of need a change IMO) I do not think any less of her as a mom or her potential VP. I did a little poll on here once and have been asking around in general and it seems people are pretty strict on voting on party lines and it doesn't matter who your candidate is you are going to vote for them good or bad. But my observations may be off. Honestly Shirley, I have to walk away from this or I will end up in trouble. You are right I am not controversial online because I could get in way too much trouble. And since my mets dx I have learned I would rather put my energy into positive things rather than something negative like disagreements. Something we all know polotics can do to people. I don't visit the Obama thread either because I am afraid those guys are probably too overboard for me also. Again, thanks for you time. I promise NO MORE PEEKING LOL
-
It just dawned on me...Palin reminds me of a younger Sally Fields...in looks and that kinda' bubbly persona!
-
Paulette, That you're posting suggests that you came out of Gustav okay. Is that a correct assumption. I hope so!
I'm not an advocate of talking about clothing choices on a political thread but I was so awed by Cindy McCain's gold dress I just had to mention it. I loved the look of the upstanding collar with the pearls; does anyone know what the material was? Must have cost a fortune, but then she has a fortune.
Laura Bush could have used more color I thought. She was a bit upstaged by McCain, not that I think they were trying to compete.
-
I loved the dress, too! I watched the video to see if I could answer your question. The skirt is full, with box pleats~~yes, only a size 0-2 can wear it! It seems to be a sort of silk gazar, maybe Carolina Herrera?
I usually turn up collars when I can; it's flattering, especially when a pretty color is reflected on your skin~~~~nice when you're feeling un-pretty. That necklace would help, too!
Laura has always dressed so conservatively, even with nice cleavage. She is even prettier in person. I can't imagine enduring her life for the past few years........
And yes, I know there are more important issues to be discused on this forum!!!
-
Patsy---thanks for name of the silk. Loved the dress!
Brenda--You said, When Obama starts talking about "equal distribution of wealth" that is not a democracy - that is socialism. Just wanted to note that socialism and democracy are not opposed systems:
Socialism, A social system in which the means of producing and distributing goods are owned collectively and political power is exercised by the whole community
Democracy, Government by the people, either directly or through elected representatives.
No only are socialism and democracy not opposite of each other, many governments in European democracies have been and are run by Social Democratic administrations. Perhaps, you meant to write capitalism where you wrote democracy?
Also, Obama is not a socialist. I wish he were. I'd be delighted if we were to finally get a socialist running our government; perhaps we would then have Medicare serve all of our people and not just the elderly. But not this time around!
Regarding your comment on the deposed Russian oil magnate. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the state sold off the industries that had been previously owned by the people; and some of those who purchased these properties ripped off the people and the government, royally! I'm not an admirer of Putin, but most politicians have at least one good act in them (even Bush--I'm thinking of his work on AIDS), and in Putin's case it was kicking out the greedy oil executives, who made billions off Russia's natural resources and property that had in the past, and now again, belong to the people.
I've always thought that socialism and the teachings of Christianity are more in sync with each other than Christianity and capitalism. The latter seem to me to be a direct contradiction in terms.
-
To me, the real shocker here is John McCain. Any other candidate probably would have walked away once hearing about the teen. I hope this puts to rest John was just looking for a woman as his running mate. There's plenty out there who do not come with such a large family and all the problems that could beset them. And he knew about the teen, and still chose Palin.
John absolutely amazes me on so many levels. He seems to be the forgotten one is all of this. He chose a person because of her credentials as a Governor and an oil expert. Say what you want, but this is quite a bold move on his part. He absolutely shows no fear.
-
AnnShirley,
You honestly want to say there is no difference between a democracy and socialism?
It sure was when I was in school. Your "precise" definition shows the distinct difference- Socialism can be moderate as in France or it can be in the more extreme such as Russia, Cuba and Venezuela. I am not so ignorant that I don't know that many European countries have governments have a moderate socialistic system.
Why is it that most people who are "liberal" Democrats seem to like the idea of "socialism" for government. Our premise in this country has always been that it is NOT the responsibility of government to "take care" of every aspect of its citizens life. People flock to this country because of Democracy.
With this belief it certainly explains some of your writings. I think perhaps your "world view" and sense of "having all the information" to correct people, needs to go read our founding documents. Our founding fathers came from the countries where there was "government control" in all areas of their life - they wanted a different form of government, therefore, we became a Democracy, - not one ruled by Kings/Queens; not socialism but DEMOCRACY. There is a big difference, IF you want to see and understand that.
All one has to do is to read your paragraph _"regarding your comment on the disposed Russian oil magnate " that says it all. So I guess you are for Obama (the government) taking the profits from our oil companies and distributing them to us. That is socialism - you can make it sound wonderful, you can argue with me till kingdom come (which you don't believe in) but that is not the basis on which this country was founded and it is not in our Constitution and it not how I want our country to be lead or a road I want us to travel.
Now, you have explained your "position" and I have mine in that I am not a racist and why I personally will not be voting for Obama, ENOUGH - back to what this thread was about.
Ladies, good thing Palin has a thick skin, from what I have seen this morning on the early mornig talk shows, any item about her is getting more ugly and cruel. I don't have a problem with the press checking her out - just some of the things being printed or being said on the liberal blogs should not become "fact" and be picked up by our news media and spread as such.
I need to go get another cup of coffee and print paychecks.
