I am so excited to learn that you are in SoCal! Just in case you should ever want a consult with another onc for any reason, just up the road from you in Irvine is the onc who is considered to be the world's foremost authority on triple neg bc! She is Dr. Rita Mehta at UC Irvine's Breast Center.
I have read numerous articles of hers on the cutting edge technology she practices with very promising results.
Congrats on tx #1 done! SO HAPPY you have not had se's! Many on the boards here suggest Claritin for the Neulasta se's and many also use Zyrtec and say that it's effective. Should you begin to experience any se's, there are usually otc remedy's available that work well.
You have taken your first HUGE step on this journey and you can be assured that we will be with you every step of the way.
Wishing you peaceful sleep and an se free day.

Good Morning all! Well, the decreased Neulasta dose sure made a difference in the bone pain last night. I hope it still works with the counts! Hubby and ds are headed out of town tomorrow until Sunday, so I am going to try to wing it on my own with the 2 dd's this weekend. Last Tx the weekend after was the most difficult, but with the decreased bone pain I am hoping it will be better this time. Hey, they may end up watching movies all weekend if it gets bad. One weekend attached to the tv won't hurt!
Misty - the interview went well. But, he no longer wants to do just a preschool. He now wants a day care running 7 am - 7 pm - YEAR ROUND! Don't think so! I guess i will just put in my sub app. in the next month or too and hope that a position opens up for next fall. Thanks for asking!
Hair - my poor dd's are having to be my hair fixing outlets and they are getting tired of it! I sure miss doing mine in the morning, but I do have to say that I can get out the door really fast in the morning and I am saving tons on haircare! Oh, and razors! Haven't had to shave armpits in over 2 weeks and the legs are allowing me to go about 6 days between shaving. I won't miss that much!
OK...Have an se free day everyone!

Happy Friday all,
Just a quick check in, day 14 and shedding more & more.
Kim- Yes we are obsessed w/our hair and I thought the same thing as you, "Will DH still be attracted to a "baldie"?" Glad your DH has a great attitude. Hope mine does. He may like "Sandy" better though.....
Rosemary- I live in Whittier, Ca. - LA County. I too have been pretty blessed to have little SE's. Your mind does play wierd tricks on you. I totally planned on being sick. The cramps & tummy were my problems and are gone now. But I've still got 7 tx's to go, so I'm not counting all my chickens yet.
Nico- Thx for that Onc. referral. I'm not too far away from Irvine just in case I need a 2nd option.
Stacy- I like your uptake on the postive's on our hairloss... no styling, hair care & shaving. (Not too mention the waxing..no more chinny chin chin hairs- ha ha).
Have a great Labor Day Weekend everybody!
Jeannine

Jeannine,
I hear you on the waxing!!

Long time no see!
I'm so busy with my 2 yo that I don't know if I can keep up at all around here. No husband, no older daughter -- she returned home on Wednesday, literally breaking my heart. I didn't think it was going to be so difficult.
I feel very strange here because I don't mind the hair loss at all. I even wonder if there's something to it that it doesn't bother me. Some kind of disorder linked to my loss of libido that has lasted about a year. Or depression? My girls love to rub my head, too. Maybe because they saw grandma first?
Okay, 2 yo doesn't want me doiing this. Bye!
-
Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know I survived tx#2 but must of over done it on moving son to college on the day after. I'm totally wiped out and aching now from neulasta. I'll catch up with all your posts soon! Take care, Joyce
-
Hello all,
Well I'm feeling really down today. Woke up in tears. Don't know if it's the hair loss, PMS, crazy hormones or what? Just depressed.
Glad to hear your tx#2 went okay Joyce. Rest up.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Jeannine
-
g94u67 - sorry to hear you are feeling bad today. Depression is one of the things that I have been afraid of since I am very prone to it. Sending you hugs and good thoughts. Try and do something that will make you smile today

Anyone else gained weight since first Tx? Even though food tastes funny I still somehow have gained 6 lbs in 3 weeks!
Uggghh!! I know it is better than losing, but it it sooo frustrating!
MamaHood - So glad you checked in. I was beginning to worry. Sending lots of hugs you way. I can't imagine doing this alone with a 2 year old! Check in when you can. I don't think you are alone in the not having a problem with the hair thing. I have no problem being bald, I just occasionally miss fixing my hair. My 5 yr old loves to rub my head too!
Have a great night everyone!!

Joyce ~ I can't imagine moving a child to college a day or two after a chemo treatment! You are truly a superwoman!
MamaShift ~ Can't imagine you chasing after a two year old without any help! I'm thinking of you both and hoping things smooth out for you.
Jeannine ~ So sorry to hear you hit a down day. Sometimes the whole bc thing can just seem overwhelming. I had many days, especially in the beginning, when I would just cry, "I want my old life back!" But, the tears are necessary, and your strength will return.
Stacy ~ I've also gained about 5 lbs. It's gotta just be water retention, but it's frustrating on top of the hair, nausea, exhaustion, aching, etc, all of which I've had the past couple of days (same rough days as tx #1), I guess b'cuz you feel you have no control over it.
Rosemary ~ Glad to hear your first tx went well! Hope it didn't blindslide you after you posted. By the way, I am in Bermuda Dunes (near Palm Desert), but I have antique space in Temecula. Prior to bc, I got over there often, but surgery & chemo have definitely put a crimp in my ability to be there as much now. Maybe one of these days you, Jeannine, and I can pick a midway spot to meet and celebrate the end of our chemo tx's.
Thinking of you all ~ Deanna

Hello everyone!
-
Welcome mamkaren! So sorry you had to join us. We are a great group! I read your bio and you will find some kindred souls here. Many of us are in our 30's and 40's with kids too! It does completely change your world. I saw that you are awaiting a grandbaby. I am sure that is a bright spot during this trying time.

Hi everyone! I am out of the chemo fog and nausea sickness from my last tx on 8/27! YIPPEE! The 2nd tx did seem worse than the first! Welcome to all the new members. The boards seem pretty quiet this weekend, but I hope it means all are well and enjoying the long holiday weekend! I did reasearch the possibility of doing reconstruction after completionof chemo and am awaiting a call from JHU to set up a consult appointment. I figure it doesn't hurt to check out my options.....
As far as weight gain/loss goes, I've lost 15 pounds since being dx with bc, but I needed too. I haven't lost any since starting chemo, but maybe a pound or two, but I really have to force myself to eat the first week or so after chemo. I know that's what it takes to fight this ugly monster bc and it's NOT going to beat me!

HI ROYA, I AM NEW TO THIS SITE AND CAME ACROSS YOUR POST, I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT WORRYING ABOUT HOW THE KIDS WILL REACT OR HOW THEY MIGHT FEEL SCARED THAT MOM IS GOING THROUGH SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN YOUR NORMAL LIFE. WHEN I EXPLAINED TO MY KIDS THAT MOM WAS SICK BUT THAT MOM HAD TO TAKE MEDICINE TO ME BETTER THEY JUST LOOKED AT ME CONFUSSED. I TOLD THEM THAT MY HAIR WOULD FALL OUT SO THEY WOULD ASK ME MOM WHEN IS YOUR HAIR GONNA FALL OUT? MY KIDS ARE THE AGES OF 18,12,9 AND 5, THREE GIRLS ONE BOY. MY LITTLE GIRLS WOULD LOOK AT ME WITH THIS HURT IN THIER EYES WHEN MY HAIR STARTED TO FALL OUT SO I KNEW THAT I HAD TO ACT AS IF IT WAS NO BIG DEAL BUT I HELD IN MY TEARS WHILE I GAVE THEM BOTH A PAIR OF SCISSORS AND LET THEM CUT MY HAIR. THEY HAD SO MUCH FUN THEY WERE ACTING AS IF WE WERE AT A HAIR SALON. THEY ARE DOING GREAT NOW AND HAVE ADAPTED TO MY NEW LOOK AND ARE COUNTING THE DAYS UNTIL MY LAST CHEMO. I HAVE IDC AND HAD A LUMPECTOMY ACTUALLY TWO. I HAVE TWO MORE CHEMOS TO GO THEN RADIATION THEM A YEAR OF HERCEPTIN. THIS ROLLER COASTER RIDE IS GOING TO FAST AND CRAZY I JUST WISH THAT SOMEONE WOULD GET ME OFF THIS SCARY RIDE. I KEEP TELLING MYSELF THAT I HAVE TO KEEP STRONG AND THAT I'M ALMOST DONE WITH CHEMO. WE HAVE TO STAY AT PEACE WITH OUR INNER SELF.I'M SORRY FOR THE LONG POST BUT I'VE BEEN DESPERATE TO TALK TO SOMEONE I'M GLAD THAT I FOUND THIS SITE. IT REALLY HELPS TO TALK TO PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING. MY FAMILY AND HUSBAND GIVE GREAT SUPPORT BUT THEY HAVE'NT A CLUE OF HOW I REALLY FEEL INSIDE. BESIDES ALL OF THE OTHER STUFF GOING ON IT'S AWFUL TO FEEL THAT THE CROWN HAS BEEN TAKEN OF YOUR HEAD. LIKE A QUEEN WITHOUT A CROWN THATS WHAT ITS LIKE TO LOOSE YOUR HAIR DON'T YOU THINK SO?

Yesterday I took my eldest daughter shopping for cosmetic supplies. I actually bought some leave in hair conditioner for myself. I must have been going on auto-pilot.......forgetting that I no longer have hair to put it in. I didn't think to remember until I got home!
Mamakaren, I think you handled giving the information to your children quite well. My kids seem to be ok about it now but my 17 year old still sees her psychologist. Our 4 year old now has one of the bald cloth dolls with the wig. I think that doll actually helped her understand as well as a 4 year old can.
Stacey, I too experienced a lot of burping mostly during the first few days after chemo. Before reading your post, I thought I was developing 'acid reflux' or something like that. I do think it is a chemo thing.
One of my other S/E's is that since starting chemo, I just don't feel like being romantic at all. It took a bit of courage to mention it here but I want to share all my S/E's just in case someone else feels the same way so they won't think they are alone. I was fine before chemo but now my feelings seem to have vaporized. I know its' the chemo & accompanying emotions because I asked my doc. I must have the most understanding DH in France!
Rosemaryap, I am sooooooo glad that you chose to do the chemo!!!!!!
Misty, I was able to find the regular chocolate Instant Breakfast. I found that I can keep it down when I am suffering from the nausea. I make it very cold and then sip it. Thanks for the advice.
Mamashift, when will you see your daughter again?
Welcome SheRee and all our new sisters. Wishing all of you in the USA a wonderful, fun filled Labor Day.
-
Roya, I'm shooting for a few days before Halloween. She begged me to be home by then because a) she would be royally envious if I were here b) she wants to spend it with me.
I got my first taste of France since my husband left a month ago. Went to see Le fils de l'epicier. It was pretty good, though I'm not sure why the trailer says it takes place in Provence since the father is sent to hospital in Lyon and the license plates are 26 (Drome). I guess Provence is more attractive to American moviegoers?
Au fait, t'es ou en France?

Hey all,
I'm catching up on everyone's news...I've been "nesting" with retail therapy. Hair's starting to come out in clumps and buying stuff for our house seems to be the only thing to cheer me up right now. Odd as I'm usually not much of a shopper. Tomorrow is day 14 post 1st tx for me....how long does it usually take for hair to fall out? I guess it depends on how much I have but just wondering for everyone else how long it took?
DH painted our bedroom today with all four kids helping. What chaos! They were all too cute in their painting outfits, trying to make the room nice for Mommy. My DH is also understanding Roya of my lack of interest. I'm sure it's the tiredness from the chemo.
The dry mouth and headaches are my biggest complaints right now. Anyone else having these? I got some complimentary products from the dentist that are supposed to help with the dry mouth so started those tonight...some replacement saliva gel and something called MI paste that helps to protect enamel. I guess with a dry mouth and less saliva we are more prone to tooth issues along with the mouth sores. The dentist said by keeping the mouth moist it will decrease all these problems. I must be drinking gallons of water, but I guess that's good to flush it all out.
Nothing seems to decrease the headaches but sleep and even then it's still there when I wake up. Tylenol and Advil don't seem to touch it at all. Anyone have a suggestion for this? It's been bad the past couple of days but then my whole scalp is really tender. Maybe the headaches are from that?....because my hair is starting to really fall out?
It's be raining a ton here in Nova Scotia but still nice to have a long weekend before school starts up next week. Hope everyone else is having a great weekend.

Dawn~ On the headache topic. There is a bc sister (Ibelieve in the July 08 group) who is a research pharmacist and counsels many of us with her take on the best supplements and otc meds for various se's. She had tried scads of headache remedies and nothing seemed to help very much until someone gave her a tube of "Head On". You know the one with the annoying commercial. She said the result was miraculous! Headache gone. I haven't tried it yet because the only place it's available in my immediate area is Walgreen's. We live on a ranch 50 miles from the city and just haven't been "into the city" since she told me about it. Anyway, it's worth a try. You just rub it on your forehead which is great. We all swallow enough meds these days!

Hi all - hope everyone has survived well over the weekend!!! I had my 2nd tx on Friday and even though I had another reaction I survived. Saturday I felt pretty good - over did it I think so yesterday I felt pretty tired. Last night got up about 2am and thought I might die. Of course I didn't but I might have felt better!! LOL LOL Feel pretty wiped out today thank goodness no work. Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day!!! Oh - btw I am pretty much totally bald now. It hasn't bothered me as much as I thought it would but hey I just want to get through this chemo!!!!! So that is my focus!!!!! Love to all!!!!
-
Tx # 1 totally influenced by weekend, but I was blessed to have my boyfriend here to enforce rest, fluids and just be supportive. He is gone now, and I am lonely and concerned at making it through work tomorrow. I worked the two days right after Tx and really felt and performed awful on Friday. Hopefully the boss will be understanding.
The next time I see my boyfriend, my hair will be on the way out. He says it won't matter to him, and I hope he feels that way when he sees me bald. My husband walked out on me when I was sick, so it is hard to feel secure again, even though Tom has been with me every step of the way so far. He says he's not going anywhere, and that my worth is not dependent on boobs and hair. Hopefully a keeper.

Sounds like no one is suffering too bad. First of all re: weight gain, give me steroids, tell me to quit smoking and guess what, I have added about 15 pounds, enough that the Doctor had to increase my chemo dose. Now I get to try and diet. Yeah!! No bad side effects after treatment number two for me. I had had some frequent stools (with some mucous is this normal?). The weekend has been nice. We have a Balloon Derby here where I live over Labor Day weekend and they have been beautiful. My mom came over and stayed a couple of nights. My sister that is just 3 years older than I had a beautiful quilt made for me. It is pink colors with a little fabric with the pink breast cancer ribbons in it. On the back she had embroidered "With Love Kim" nad printed in different blocks all of my siblings names and their children and grandchildren. It is ABSOLUTELY adorable and of course made me cry. She also had them embroider"Place back, pillow back, everything back." Coming from a family of six this was our sayiing to make sure we got our place, pillow, blanket, and whatever else we had back when we got up. She said to know that they all are with me every time I go for chemo and to take my new quilt with me. It also has a pillow case with my name embroidered to fold the quilt and put in. So far I have not missed a day of work. Day five after first treatment I went home 2 hours early, but that's it. College boy did well when he saw me without hair. I must have had plenty of prayers from everyone. I am so thakful for such a strong support group from my family, friends and co-workers. I am truly blessed. God is Good!!
Wishing everyone the best!

"Happy Labor Day Everyone"
Nico- Thank you so much for the warm welcome you have no idea how excited i am to be a part of the bald hotties! LOL
halpino- I also suffered from headaches and nothing really helped. I would say it comes from your tender scalp. My doc told me to shave my head and it really helped me. I hope that you find some comfort.
Mommy3abm- Thank you for the welcome.
Yes the baby has given me something new to look forward to. I found out my daughter was pregnant after my surgery and she will be here right after my last chemo. I have gained weight also and it's frustrating because my clothes don't fit. We have to keep telling our selves that this is temporary. I thought that when people got chemo they got very skinny but i can't stop munching on everything in sight.
Roya- LOL! That's so wierd, I did the same thing. I was with my 18 yr old we were buying girl stuff and i was buying some sleek hair product to make my hair less frizzy and my daughter tells me ma why are you buying that? We started to laugh because i forgot. I started toxatere and my hair is growing but it falls out once you pull on it.
Everyone-

It's 3:30 in the morning and I can't sleep - so here I am posting
Jeannine - How are you feeling? I hope depression is not getting hold of you. Please let us know how you are and if we can help in anyway.
MamaKaren - welcome and congrats on the coming grand-baby - I just became a grandmother (boy that sounds strange) this year. William is 7 months old now. I wish I had more energy to play with him.
Nico - Have we decided on a name? Is it the Bald Hotties?
Roya - I did almost the same thing you and Mamakaren did - I was in the drug store the other day and thought - "I need one of those little hairbrushes for my purse" I got to the counter and thought "What am I thinking - in a few days I won't have any hair to brush" Chemo brain I say, and I'm sticking to that explanation.
Dawn - Tomorrow is day 14 post 1st treatment for me and today my hair has started to shed like a dogs in the spring and my scalp itches like crazy. I assume it's only a couple of days until I will give in and shave it off. It will grow back! I keep telling myself that.
alibug - I hope your reaction from the 2nd treatment wasn't too bad. I'm sorry that you are dealing with that issue - it's enough just to have chemo without reactions to it too. I hope the next one is better for you.
bettelou- Sorry that your husband left you - I'm sure it must be scary to have trust in someone again after that experience. Tom sounds like a keeper though - have faith!
I'm going to try and read a book maybe that will put me to sleep?
Monique
-
Monique ~ I too am surfing the net at 03:30 because I can't sleep!
I LOVE the name Bald Hotties but I cn take NO credit there, I believe it was Deanna's idea.
SOMEWHERE, I got the impression we had decided on it, in my CHEMO DREAMS, maybe.
Chemo Dreams are just too bizzarre. I wake up drenched and feeling drugged and can't remember anything about the dream except I did not want to be there!
The brows and the eyelashes have left the building and I practiced with some stencils and pencils and eyebrow powder today. I looked like Groucho Marx. Maybe a trip to the salon for a lesson is in order?
Maybe a little less focus on myself is in order as well. This dam disease does that. This week I hope to get back to work at the clinic for a few days before weekly chemo treatments begin. That should help re-orient me away from me and re-engage me in life outside of BC! How I hate this disease!!
Hood ~ Rock is BACK!! I missed her to pieces! Did you see the post about her suggested new name? "Boulder the Hairless" BWAAAAAAA HAAAAA HAAAAAA!!!!!
Really must try to get some sleep. Chemo dreams stay away!

Good Morning Girls,
Hope everyone had a nice, long weekend and had the great weather that I had here. Well, it is day13 after TX2, and I finally got my appetite and most taste back on Sunday. Woo-hoo!! I will have 11 days to enjoy food before the next round on 9/11-yes, of all days!! Remember, August is now history, and the we'll hope Sept. goes just as fast. I hate wishing time away, but I think we are all looking forward to putting this behind us. Today, I go to have my wigs trimmed. I just think they are too long for me, so here we go, cut #2.
Who is up this week? I think most of you are getting over #2 or about to do #2. Here's hoping to no SEs!! Have a good day, everyone...
~Misty
-
Hi everyone,
I'm feeling so much better. Thanks girls for the positive support. School shopping helped. I can now accept the fact that I'm going to be bald for awhile but it's only temporary. You're right Monique, we do get stronger.
Deanna: That would be great to meet up with you and Rosemary once we're done w/our TX's! My hubby and I love Desert Hot Springs in the winter.
Dawn: I'm a little ahead of you in TX. I'm 18 days post 1st TX and yes the hair is still falling out in clumps. It is so tangled at the end. My DH can't find his shears and I can't take it anymore. Maybe I'll just go to the barber. I also have mouthsores and wondered what else helps? I've gargled w/salt and warm water.
Misty: Hurray you've got your appetite back. (Mine never left and I know I've put on the lbs). TX#2 is Friday and I go for WBC tomorrow.
Hey Nico, I've been having crazy chemo dreams too!
Wishing everyone the best w/no SE's.
Jeannine
-
Jeannine ~ SO Happy to hear yhat you are feeling better! The one thing I use that is great for the mouth sores is Biotene toothpaste and Biotene mouth wash. It's amazing how quickly the mouth sores are gone. I brush 3 or 4 times a day and rinse with the mouth wash whenever the sores appear and for several days after. I think CVS carries it. Yah, the crazy chemo dreams are something else. It's turning my days and nights around!
alibug ~ SORRY about your reaction to tx #2! It's frightening, I know. I'm sure they will monitor you very closely during the following tx's. Those things sometimes have a way of getting progressively worse, but there are a lot of meds available to help overcome the reaction.
LaShon ~ PLease check in, I worry about you and would really like to hear how you're doing!
This Friday begins my new chemo plan. Taxoterre weekly for 3 weeks followed by Cytaxan the 4th week and repeat the same in October and then DONE and on to radiation. YEAH! You are so right Monique, time keeps marching on and us along with it and before we know it this will be behind us.
Wishing all an SE free week!

Chemopause anyone?? I am experiencing major hot flashes especially in the middle of the night. They wake me up then I toss off the covers and lay there under the ceiling fan (on max. high mind you) until it passes and then I pray I fall asleep quickly. Then, lo and behold...another one follows a few hours later! I had 3 hot flashes just while cooking dinner tonight. This really STINKS!! I am 6 days past Tx #2 and this has been going on for about 4 days. My last period lasted on and off for about 2 weeks so, I am assuming that the chemo induced menopause is in full swing. Anybody else??
Good Night! May it be se free!!
Stacy
-
Stacy, my period was muuucch shorter and lighter than it has been for the last year or so. I'm not going to like hot flashes. I had some in hospital after mastectomy.
Just got back from dinner after tx #3. I am halfway there!
I called my daughter to see how school went today. She's doing well, but I broke down in tears after I hung up. Daddy and she were out in our new garden enjoying some end-of-the-day loveliness and I just wanted to be there!
Gotta run get the other one in bed.
