I recently came across a warning about the purity of the Red Yeast supplement used by many to lower elevated cholesterol levels.  The appears to be a big discrepancy between various popular suppliers regarding the purity and active concentration of this supplement.

Does anyone of a site where you can search to find teh best vitamon and supplement suppliers regarding the quality of their products?  The market is so over whelming with these items and this is certainly a warning to us the consumer.

    CP-

unfortunatley there are many supplements on the market that we don't know how pure they really are.  I learned this from my naturalpath about 10 years ago. I know there's been alot of issues with Co Q10, especially.  I know the brand "NOW" is ruputable and has recently won an award.  My naturalpath and local healthfood store like their products.  A site that Dr. Oz says to use to check out supplement companies is www.consumerlab.com.  Also was told that VitaminShoppe brand products are good.

I used to sell vitamins at a Whole Foods-type store and can verify that NOW is good. I also really trust Source Naturals, Jarrow, Natural Factors and New Chapter. For fish oil, Carlson is the gold standard.

    Awilda,

I used to use the Shaklee products years ago and was very satisfied with them, but got away from them

I would love to know your b/c status and if the list you offered is what you personally take.

    Thanks,

    Pam-

I know there were a few GNC products that were questional, don't remember which products specifically.  But I do recall reading in one of the John Hopkins ask an expert forums stating that when they tested GNC's broccoli sprout supplements they did not contain broccoli but alphalfa sprouts.

Awilda ~  You may want to check further re. using soy protein now that you have been dx w/bc.  I have used Shaklee products for 25+ years (so know their quality), but reluctantly gave up the soy protein after seeing that multiple experts, including those @ UCLA say that while some soy products are okay, those that have been processed or altered -- specifically soy powder and soy milk -- are definitely to be avoided.    Deanna

Be careful about consumerlab.com , I have read that they are sued because they were not totally objectives. They threatened companies to highlight the negative points of their product if they did not pay them but they would highlight the positive points if they paid a certain amount of money, among other things...
