Good morning!  I think we're supposed to weigh in on Fridays, right?  My weigh in is actually from Tuesday though cause that's when rad tech weighs me...as of Tuesday I was exactly the same as last Tuesday...no lossFrown but no gain either and I really can't complain...Other than stepping up my walking this past week I haven't really implemented other changes....problem with Costco brownie bites (they are excellent!!) but I plan to start today with cutting out sugar.  I'm not really a big sugar eater but Costco brownies are a big weakness.  Gonna get the teens to finish them off so I'm not tempted.  We are supposed to have a beautiful weekend here (no Jersey humidity for a change) so I plan to walk and walk and walk....

I gained 2 pounds, and it's my own fault. I was just plain lazy this week and skipped a couple of days at curves. When I do that, I have no energy at home to exercise. I WILL do better next week. How did you guys do?

So it looks like I've gained a pound from last week.  My scale isn't the best but it must be right.  It looks like not eating breakfast is the way to go.  Way to go Ellenoire.  2 lbs is great.  Good for you Jill with the 1.5lb loss.  I'm using my old scale, not my digital because it doesn't seem  to be too accurate so no half lbs for me.

CHJ looks like we're in the same boat.  The saboteur has been at it again.  My husband keeps buying chips.  He bought then last weekend so I've been eating them every evening.  Now I could just not eat them but they call my name.  The best thing for me is to not have them in the house.  I told my husband this and he bought them again yesterday!  I said very nicely to him that I know he's trying to be nice but I don't want them in the house.  He also bought twizzlers and chocolate.

We're going on vacation next week, leaving on Thursday and returning the following Friday.  I won't be able to report in next week but will the following Friday (or Saturday depending when we get back).

Hi everyone!  I also weighed myself "officially" on Tuesdsay after rads -- exactly 150 lbs, which is 10.5 lower than my highest point at the end of chemo.  Using my rather inaccurate bathroom scale (actually, I borrowed it because I've never owned a scale) it looks like I am still at 150 this morning, which is around 2 lbs less than a week ago.  This is good news because we had a going-away party for a coworker last night and I ate a lot.  Other than that (and a bunch of yummy little homemade cookies at a meeting one day) I was pretty good about tracking my points and eating well.  I haven't been walking as much as I'd like to, but it's hard to fit it in.  I'm going to see if I can get my 7-year-old to walk with me in the evenings -- there is some conservation land down the street and walking in the woods is more fun than just going around the block.  Oh, and my free pedometer with the pictures of Snap, Crackle and Pop is no longer working -- maybe I'll go out and get myself a real one!

Sending out lots of positive vibes for a week of feeling strong and healthy to everyone!

Hey! Congrats to everyone who lost (Jill, Noelle, Lauren). Wintermoon, staying the same is OK! Those brownies sound good... And for those of us who gained (Barbara, Jeri, me) - we'll do better next week, eh?? Jeri - I reported in on the previous page (gained 1.5).

Here are the things I rely on for my "good" eating. This time of the year, it's all about fresh fruits and veggies. My wonderful brother lives in Florida and has an amazing mango tree, and he sends them to me during the summer. Those babies are full of fiber. I also get fiber from cereal. I eat 10-greain hot cereal or oatmeal for breakfast a lot. I like to snack on shredded wheat (think Triscuits without the salt or fat) and Quaker Crunchy Corn Bran. One of the things I like to eat in the summer is something we called a "big sandwich" when we were kids. All of these ingredients are required, and I don't make them if anything is missing: whole wheat bread, a slice of American or cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes (must be home-grown), green or red sweet pepper, onion, and a bit of light mayo. I just had one a little bit ago, and YUM! For the WW types, I calculated this at about 7 points for a whole sandwich! I also like to eat fudgesicles - even the regular ones (not fat-free or sugar-free) are only 110 calries (2 points).

Keep up (or get going) the good work.

Just say Whoa! to overeating. Laughing

    CHJ

P.S. I'm going to try to keep up with the results in the header (original post).  Let me know if I'm missing something!

    Oooh...fudgesicles!

I'm waiting on my tomatoes in my garden so I can make my favorite tomato sandwich...very simple-- ripe tomatoes, salt/pepper and a smidge of mayo on multi-grain bread.  It's my favorite sandwich!!  My cherry and grape tomatoes are coming in but I've a bit longer to go on the big ones.

Wintermoon, the tomatoes sound delicious. We've had so much rain here, that it's destroyed a lot of fruit, veggies, and flowers.

    Ladies,

I'm sorry I haven't been posting.  It's so hard to share a computer with the rest of the family.  But school starts tomorrow so now it'll be "my turn" more often.

Missed posting my weigh-in results both weeks, but here it is:  -2 pounds! (total between the 2 weeks)

I've been walking or riding my bike nearly each day, and eating lots of fruits/vegetables from the local farmers market.  Trying to drink lots of water since I'm getting rads now but I get tired of drinking it.  Anyone try Ezekiel bread?  I just found some this past week and it's pretty good, and very filling.

I also bought some dark chocolate and am allowing myself a bit as a treat each day.  Gotta have the chocolate.

Here's to all of us making wise choices this week!

I love ezekiel bread, it is a great low glycemic bread line.

I "treat" myself to 2 pieces per day to get past the regular bread craving and for the great fibre in it.

I eat it with unsweetened natural peanut butter with an organic yogurt and an apple for an easy breakfast or lunch.

I was at a 2 day long swimming workshop, I am beat.

     Cheers,

Just got home from run/walking.  My goal is to go farther each time.  I only got for 30 minutes - it's all my life has time for so I figure I'll go for distance instead of time.  Went further this time than last time!  I'm getting there!!!!!!

Congrats to Michele on your 2 pound loss!!!

Where do you get ezekiel bread?  I never heard of it, but it has "bread" in the name, so it's worth looking for (love, love, love bread!)

Michele, Noelle & Jill - good work on the exercise!  I eased up a bit the past few days - where my port came out is still sore, especially with a bra on.  The stitches come out tomorrow, so hopefully I can really get going again.

    Have a great week everyone!

Ugh, I did not stay on track over the weekend.  On Saturday I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for an iced coffee w/ skim milk but I hadn't had lunch yet, so I treated myself to a "reduced fat blueberry muffin."  Then I got home and checked out the nutrition info -- 500 calories!!!  Yikes, that's like 7 WW points.  Yesterday I ate better with the notable exception of an absolutely delicious, high-fat ice cream cone. At least I got the kiddie size!

I was going to go for a walk yesterday right when a huge thunderstorm moved in, so I did a 30-minute "Walk Away the Pounds" video instead.  It's not exactly serious exercise but it's better than nothing....

    Have a healthy week, everyone!

Hey Lauren - I use to walk with a friend of mine and she always went on about how she wasn't working "that" hard ect.  I kept telling her that she had gotten off her butt and gotten moving so that in and of itself was good!  So I'll tell you the same thing - You got off your butt and got moving and that in and of itself is a good thing!  Besides I know of a lot of women that have lost lots of weight with those tapes!

OH and don't you love that "lite" equals 500 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lauren, hang in there!  Walking is great exercise, so keep it up.  I don't know how to break it to you, but I'm thinking that the 500 calorie muffin is more like 10 WW points...

CHJ, yeah, you are right, even though it only had 4 or 5g of fat.  I think I put down 7 because my son ate part of it. I should have let him eat ALL of it, LOL.

Thanks for the link, Noelle.  The one about eating early even if you aren't hungry is interesting.  Lately, I have been eating something very light with my tea early in the am (usually a multigrain waffle) because I'm taking ibuprofen and don't want to take it on an empty stomach.  Normally I just have tea w/ milk and sugar, and then I eat breakfast ~ 2 hours later after I get to work.  Maybe I should switch this around and have my high-fiber breakfast earlier?  Sorry if this is TMI, but the issue for me is that I need a hot liquid on an almost empty stomach to get my digestive system moving -- and on weekdays I don't have time for that and then breakfast.

What are some good breakfast sources of protein other than meat and eggs?  The milk in my cereal has some protein but according to that article, not nearly enough.

Yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat cheese( get it as natural as you can), Hummous and beans etc. all good protein sources.

Some of you might want to try a smoothie in the AM. Fruit (frozen or fresh) a serving of protein powder ( from the health food or GNC type store, low or no salt or artificial sweeteners)  with some yogurt and 1tbsp flax or UDO's oil in it (you don't know it is there, but it makes a HUGE difference to fat burning) Here is a link to some shake recipes and the glyemic index I keep talking about.

     http://www.fatwars.com/ultimatefuel.html

Lauren, try the yogurt/ fruit recipe I wrote a few days ago, you can keep it in the fridge and grab a scoop of it as your "second breakfast"  to go or eat it in the same amount of time as it takes to drink your tea.

    CHJ,

I found the Ezekiel bread at a health food store.  It's a bit pricey.

Here's what the wrapper says:  "sprouted 100% whole grain bread...flourless, low glycemic, complete protein... sprouting is the best way to release all of the vital nutrients stored in whole grains..."

The main ingredients are wheat, barley, millet, lentils, soybeans, & spelt.

I can't claim to understand sprouting, but I've heard good things about it and about this bread.  It's filling and yummy.

Walked 3 miles yesterday and 4 today.  But then I came home and found an opened package of Oreos in the pantry.  I had to make sure they were still fesh; they are!  I stopped after 3 although I wanted to keep going.

mags:  EAT BETTER!!!  DO YOU HEAR ME???  Yell  I've been doing reasonably well the past couple of days.  I still have a good supply of mangoes...

Michele - LOL about the Oreos!!  The other day I saw chocolate-filled Oreos - not round but oblong, and OMG, did they look good!  But I didn't buy them.  I did buy some dark chocolate Hershey kisses, and so far have only had a couple a day.  Just enough!  I wonder if Whole Foods has Ezekiel bread.  There is one within walking distance of my office.

Noelle - I finally checked your link about breakfast.  I am like Lauren, though - I get up at 5:00 and just have my skim milk then, and eat my breakfast after I get to work (around 8:00).  If I eat too early, I want lunch by 10:00!  I do the whole grain thing though.  I use this: http://www.noramill.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=249 to which I add more flax seed, sunflower seeds, and steel cut oats.  I make a big batch of it once a week (it takes 20 minutes to cook) then heat up some at breakfast with a bit of brown sugar (whoops) and some raisins.  It really sticks to the ribs!

    Hang in there everyone!

ok, this lesson needs to sink in to you guys. Eat when you get up and do NOT let more than 3-4 hours go by without food. If your meals are balanced and filling, you should not get hungry. The traditional times for breakfast lunch and dinner need to be thrown out the window. If you get up at 5, eat at 5, then 8 or 9, then 12 or 1, etc.

I eat breakfast at 8, snack at 11:30, lunch at 2, snack at 5, dinner at 7:30, snack at 10 bed at 1.

IF you do this, and go to bed with NOTHING in your mouth other than plain water for 3 hours before bed you will wake up hungry and this is your chance for a balanced breakfast!!  A small bowl of something ( like the recipe I added a few pages ago) with protein in it with your tea or coffee will be easy and fast.

That whole grain meal is great (Brown sugar is fine) but find some nuts or hemp seeds or yogurt or some protein powder to add to that cereal, or on the side and you will have a more balanced meal that keeps you full longer.

Jill- just get rid of the bad food in your house, and do not eat anywhere else for 10 days. You won't cheat, unless of course you want to.

Food choices are easy when you choose your level of commitment. If you want to be 100% then you better get rid of all your temptation triggers or you will cheat and feel bad. I am choosing to be as close to 90% as I can during this period of my life. I was so sick during my A/C that I could only eat what tasted reasonable and went down well, and was easy to prepare. I live alone and had no energy to do anything. I started to eat better during Taxol, but the bad habits were slow to break after all those months.  Choose your percentage of commitment to eating well and exercising and stick with it. Use your remaining percentage to have a little fun. I choose to eat 2 desserts a week and have a little dark chocolate each day. Other than that, I don't really cheat. 3 cookies? who cares? You just don't get your chocolate that day- that's all.

I'm working on getting the bad food out!!!!!

The problem I have with eating the every 3-4 hours is that I'm a teacher.  It's kinda hard to teach and eat at the same time. For example if I eat at 6 when I get up then I eat at like 9 again.  That's right in the middle of 1st hour and I teach hours 1,2,3.  Don't have a break til like 11:40.  Often I have meetings in the morning so I can't eat then either.  It's like trying to find time to go to the bathroom while teaching!  Neither works real well!

Okay, I've been good the last few days.  No cookies, no chips in the house.  TRYING to eat more fruits and vegetables.  My treat is a low calorie, real fruit, popsicle.  I'ts amazing how it helps and lots of water.  My husband finally got the message about just bringing me a cookie or treat with my tea after dinner.  Plus I go for my walk after my tea, then just drink water and watch the Olympics.

We leave on vacation tomorrow so I'll be gone from the boards for 10 days.  I'm not worried about my eating.  I usually eat better on vacation because I don't have to do the prep.  Good luck to everyone and I hope that I have a loss to report when I return.

I was on vacation and boy did I miss a lot here! It sounds like there are some great recipes and lots of motivation to stay on track with the exercise and healthy eating! Smile I have lost three more pounds since first logging on to this thread! That makes 10 for me, but it has been hard and a trial of my willpower every day as I too have teens who each junk food. I continue to follow the guidelines in the book Break The Fat Loss Code. Like Noelle has said, the plan stresses protein at each meal, small meals through the day (up to 6), and very few carbs. I am in the cycle where I do have a carb up day every three days. Boy do I look forward to that pasta or pizza!  So thanks, ladies, for your continuing support! Good luck to all!!

Wow drgnfly, that's awesome.  I'm leaving today on vacation so I weighed in today.  I'm back at my start weight which means I lost the 1 lb I gained the first week.  I'm planning to make only helathy choices on vacation and really work hard to maintain portion control.  Good luck to all and I'll check in again (a day late) on the 23rd.

Hi Guys! It's Friday, so I thought I'd check in and see how everyone did. I lost 4.2 pounds this week, which surprised me, as I haven't made it to the gym as much as I'd like. I'm eating a lot of salad, and chicken. Seems to be working-How did you guys do?
