Anybody heard of Mona-Vie and Herbalife
Comments
-
I heard a lot of good things about these products. Mona-Vie is known for its anti-oxidants, so I bought 4 bottles. Another bc survivor recommended this. A friend of mine from the Philippines talks about Herbalife and how another friend's latest dx shows that her tumor in one of her ovaries disappeared. She's not claiming that Herbalife cured it, but the diet adjustments helped.
Anybody using any of these? Thanks!

My oncologist told me the University of Florida at Gainseville is doing a study right now on Mona-Vie. Many of the patients have reported at the very least - feeling less tired during chemo.
Will see what the results show. Certainly the acai fruit from which the Mona-Vie is made... can't hurt anyone.
I think we need to use the expertise of the dr.'s for what they are trained , (which is symptoms and treatment!)... and use our common sense and intuition for the rest of our body!
Using traditonal therapy alone is like putting our head in the sand.
Trust that the right and helpful information will come to us.
It is well with my soul!

Yes, I notice feeling different after taking it. I heard it has anti-inflammatory stuff in it that helps with muscle and joint pains. A friend who is also a BC survivor has been taking it, and she said the same thing.
Thanks for the input.

IDoes the antioxidants interfere with treatment?
-
Costco now has it's own version of Mona Vie...alot less expensive
I have had both...very tasty...and I love the berries

Aurora,
I had a neighbor who was selling Mona-Vie. Around here, it runs around $40 per bottle, and one bottle lasts a week. So, I did my due diligence on this product. She gave me CDs to listen to, and I listened to "the doctor" who does an infomercial on YouTube about it. Just my opinion, but it's junk science. They don't promote any anti-cancer properties with Mona Vie, or anything for that matter, because there's no scientific evidence it works (even if you can find it less expensive). I think you're much better off incorporating blueberries, salmon and other good foods into your regular diet. Just my opinion.

Even though they do not make any health claims that does not mean the the properties of the berries and fruits in the drink do not apply.
Just like Prune juice makers do not make any health claims but does that mean it does not work for health related issues?
-
I bought 4 bottles from a friend -- Aargh! I can't say no because she's a survivor, and she has lots of great things to say about it. So, I take 2 ounces every morning as a supplement.
I think it's too new in the market, so one really knows the long-term effects yet. Berries in general are rich in anti-oxidants, so I thought it can't be bad. The problem is it can get expensive.
-
Spunky girl, I think you are missing the picture. I don't know of anyone who claims mona vie to cure cancer. My oncologist said it is making people feel better and be less tired during chemotherapy. It will be interesting to see what they learn at the University of FL.
So the answer is that it is not interfering with chemo. There are many supplements out there that can actually enhance chemotherapy while minimizing it's side effects by protecting our healthy cells.
We are all just trying to have better quality of life for whatever time we have left... cancer or no cancer!
My understanding is that a serving of the mona vie is just 2 oz. The B complex vitamins also sometimes help with energy.
Peace and Blessings
-
Carol,
I'm not missing the picture. I just happen to think that this juice is awfully expensive, and that the fact that it is "not interfering with cancer" is just not a good enough excuse to incorporate it into my life. I happen to believe, and it's just my opinion, that products like this prey on people who are looking for the "magic bullet" to deal with illnesses. I doubt the Univ of FL is going to find out anything different....
-
My son, smarty pants that he is, asked my onco about these when we interviewed him. My onco is against me taking them because he said that some studies on these anti-oxidant supplements showed that some types of bc cells actually "stuck" to the anti-oxidants in these drinks and it made it harder to rid the body of them. He suggested getting the anti-oxidants the natural way - berries, salmon etc. So, I'll go the natural route.
-
Ladies,
I do agree with you that mona vie is expensive. Unfortunately, there will always be people preying on those people who are looking for the "magic bullet" with any terminal or devastating disease.
It goes without saying that the wealthy in this country always have an advantage in the ability to purchase whatever they choose to try. I don't think that mona vie markets itself, as a cancer cure though... there may be selling agents who tell one anything to promote their personal business, as my understanding is that it is a multilevel marketing business.
Yes, there are certainly many things to do in the realm of anti oxidants. Remember, however that there are also nutritionists who have studied these things in much greater depths than medical doctors who do not take nutrition as part of their medical degree. I found a book by Dr. Patrick Quillin, ( a Dr. of Nutrition, not just a b.s. degree) He is former VP of Cancer Treatment Centers of America and gives lots of information regarding helping fight cancer even along with traditional therapy. This is what he did at CCT of Am... he devised programs for cancer patients to be used alone or at the facility while in treatment. He does NOT sell any products other than his book and he even gives which supplements he advises in order of importance when $ is an issue. Also the book has lots of menu ideas along with recipes. I would encourage you to check it outl
I think the more knowledge we have in the battle, the more ammunition we have to build a strong immune system.
I respect everyone's opinion, I am just hoping to help increase everyone's arscenal including my own. And for me... yes... money IS an object!!!a
Godspeed,
-
Mon avi is made from the acai berry, which I purchase frozen in the health food store. It comes in packets that I mix with other organic fruits to make smoothies. WAAAAY cheaper, same antioxidant value.
Rosewood...Antioxidants are an important ingrediant in the diet...esppecially our diets. My understanding is that we would need to megadose the antioxidants to caue any interference with chemo. In regular doses, there is no issue.
-
in web marcket i know that it is very frustrating some time.mone-via is knownas anti-oxidant. it is well with my sugession.
-
Herbalife has many lawsuits , it is forbidden the sale in many countries. some "herbs"make cells grow, good ones and bad ones, ask your oncologist, in the Cancer Center I work, no herbs, or "naturist" is permitted while on treatment.
-
Costco's bottles only cost less than five dollars each same stuff

We have something similar in Australia called "Kakadu Juice."
The texture is quite thick...and you only need to consume a small shot glass each day.
Here are the ingredients...
Kakadu Plum:
Until recently, this was mainly eaten by Aboriginal children but now known as the world's highest fruit source of vitamin C. It is also a phytonutrient feast full of (polyphenolic) antioxidants, folic acid, ellagic and gallic acids, iron and dietary fibre.
Pepperberry:
Hailed as the World's highest antioxidant food. A polygodial-rich food traditionally used as an everyday herb flavoring by the Aborigines in the highlands of southern Australia and on the island State of Tasmania.
Quandong:
The flesh has a subtle peach-apricot flavour and is used in gourmet cuisine and the kernels were roasted and eaten like the sandalwood, to which it is closely related. It contains vitamins, minerals & unique oils.
Wild Rosella:
A tasty fruit which looks like a flower and commonly used in jams and sauces. It is a truly rich antioxidant food with incredibly high levels of the 2 most active anthocyanins.
Goji:
A natural cornucopia of nourishing vitamins including A, C, E & B, antioxidants, amino acids, essential oils, anti-inflammatories & proteoglycans.
Mangosteen:
A delicious fruit full of minerals, polyphenols, polysaccharides and anti-inflammatories plus over 40 different highly concentrated antioxidant Xanthones.
Pomegranate:
Juicy and sweet with an abundance of anti inflammatories and many antioxidant bioflavonoids including ellagic acid.
Acai:
The Acai fruit grows in the Amazon rainforest and is loaded with vitamins, protein and amino acids, fibre, antioxidants, electrolytes, Omega 3, 6 & 9 oils and sterols. A health-food favourite of the native South Americans with a taste like chocolate cherries!
Blueberry:
A well known health-food full of flavour, fibre, phenols, vitamin C and potent antioxidants including resveratrol and numerous bioflavonoids.
Barley Grass:
A concentrated green food rich in enzymes, proteins, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll which may be lacking in modern processed food diets.
Flax Seed:
A wonderful source of omega 3, 6 & 9 oils, lignans (numerous health benefits) and rich in healthy plant proteins important for a naturally nutritious diet.
Green Tea:
A powerful herb, famous for its copious catechins, vitamins and minerals plus ECGC (an even stronger antioxidant than vitamins E & C).
Grape Seed:
Grape seeds contain numerous fatty acids and antioxidants including resveratrol and the OPC's which are strong and versatile antioxidants.
Cherry:
Delightfully sweet, slightly sour with antioxidant power to boot! Also a source of malic acid and numerous bioflavonoids.
Illawarra Plum:
A very close rival to the pepperberry for the title of strongest antioxidant. Subtle plum/pine flavours plus vitamin C make it a culinary favourite & boost for Kakadu Juice.

Carol1949 what is the name of the book by Dr. Patrick Quillin?
-
Patrick Quillin's book is called, Beating Cancer With Nutrition, and it's excellent, although (IMO) not quite as interesting a read as a newer one by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD, called Anti-Cancer, A New Way Of Life. Both books offer invaluable, science-based diet, nutrition & lifestyle advice, and should absolutely be on your reading list. Deanna

Storebought Acai Berry products cannot compare to the antioxidant/polyphenol value that Monavie has. There is a patient on the process of harvesting the Acai berry to maintain it's highest nutritional value, and the patient is owned by Monavie. In fact, Monavie is the reason there is Acai in the U.S.
As a cancer survivor, as well as an avid Monavie drinker, I support the company, and the in depth science behind the product. I also do not believe that they target poor cancer ridden souls. The demographic are specifically people who are looking to incorporate a more antioxidant/vitamin rich supplement into their daily routine.
It can get expensive, but it can also be free. I personally chose the "free" route.
I don't believe it is the reason I am in remission, although I think that since I have been a part of MV, I have made lifetime friends, have turned to Christ, I have had a healthier diet, and I make money with the company, that my stress levels have decreased. Maybe that helped?
I am not pushing my product, only defending. I wish everyone knew what I knew about this company.
Regards to all,
Dani

I read that there several lawsuits against Herbalife, and the founder drop dead while jogging or something similar some years back.
-
Hi Dreaming. I know you wrote this message almost about a year ago. I am an Herbalife Independent Distributor and I can confidently tell you none of those things are true. They were not true then nore are they true now. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
-
carlosvillareal - Actually, you are partially correct.
Mark Hughes, the founder of Herbalife, did not drop dead while jogging. On June 16, 2000, he died of a drug and alcohol overdose after a four day drinking binge, leaving a multi-million dollar estate gained through multi-level marketing.
And you shouldn't believe every thing you read on the Internet.
But a search of reputable newspapers, other legitimate news agencies, and legal documents will reveal the hundreds of lawsuits and legal actions filed against Herbalife over the years - most of which they lost, and paid out in heavy fines.
Plaintiffs have included the FDA, the Canadian Department of Health, the California Department of Health, and numerous state agencies, citing everything from the use of dangerous herbs (which were finally removed from products) to illegal pyramid schemes.
But having said that, this thread is about women with breast cancer searching for resources to help them. I have absolutely no issue with products that make people feel better.
However, as an "Independent Herbalife Distributor" you may want to check your facts before you "confidently" tell someone they are wrong.
-
Herbalife was a very successful MLM scheme back in the 80s. It died out in the US (ponzi schemes rarely last) and now they have moved into "lesser" markets, like the Balkans and Asia. Originally, herbalife was sold as an "amazing" weight loss aid.
I don't know anything about the other product, but distrust anything sold by MLM schemes.
I second the wisdom of eating a healthy diet rather than rely on pills and other supplements. More and more, I seem to read things that suggest it does make a difference how you get your nutrients, and nutrients as part of a good diet seem to be superior.
