Confusing biopsy results - waiting for more info

Hello,

First post here! I'm a 43yo mom of four. I have heterogeneously dense breasts. I was called back for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound after my screening mammogram. They then referred me for biopsy of two small masses that they found during the ultrasound. I had the biopsy on Monday. The radiologist thought they looked like cysts, so she was hoping they'd just aspirate/collapse and we'd be done. The first one did, the second one did not. She said it could still be a complicated cyst. I got the biopsy results from the lab, and someone from my PCP office called me. I don't think they really knew what the results meant (besides that they were benign, which, YAY), but said hopefully the radiologist will also call me. So that's where I am - waiting until next week to hopefully hear from the radiologist (though I don't know for sure I will).

Here's what the diagnosis says: "Duct dilatation, fibroadenomatous change, and dense stromal fibrosis." (My PCP said I had a fibroadenoma, but google is telling me they aren't the same thing. Curious if anyone can share any insight in the meantime!

Thanks,

Dawn

Hi Dawn and welcome to Breastcancer.org,

We're so sorry for the worries that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us. You're sure to find our Community an amazing source of advice, information, and support.

While you wait for some helpful responses (it's a little quiet around here on the weekends), you may be interested in this section from the main Breastcancer.org site on Benign Breast Conditions, which may help answer some questions.

Also, info on Fibroadenomas; Mammary Duct Ectasia, which can cause duct dialation; and Fibromatosis, which may be what the dense stromal fibrosis is referencing.

Full disclosure, we are not doctors, but from our research on the site, the above links might be helpful. We hope so!

Welcome again, and if there's anything we can do to help further, please let us know!
