Has anyone had 3 biopsies before one surgery?
I had a mammogram and ultrasound in December because I was being followed for a lump on the inside of my breast. My ultrasound 6 months ago was clear. This time it wasn't.although it was all on the outside (the things on the insdie were sable) I had a core biopsy with ultrasound and they found a fibroadenoma. They also found an "architectural defect so I had a steroetactic biopsy that found radial sclerosing lesion, stromal fibrosis, columnar cell change with microcalcifications, and usual ductal hyperplasia. The radial scar was the concern. That was supposed be removed 2/22. I went all the way through pre-op before they decided they didn't feel comfortable treating me under anesthesia at that hospital because of a medical issue. So we shifted everything to a major city with a big hospital I probably should have gone to originally.
I went there Tuesday. They did extensive mammograms (counting the ones to get clips placed I am now up to 5 mammograms and one more Thursday. They also did ultrasounds of both breasts. They found cysts in my left breast which until now had no diagnosed problems. They also found another architectural defect that is faint and while 2 radiologists have seen it the radiologist that is performing my procedure may not see it an send me home (2.5 hours each way). But anyway I'm scheduled for that. I'm also scheduled to remove the radial scar(s) at the end of April.
I'm worried because so much has shown up. Every exam finds something new. And 3 biopsies? Has anyone had that because I can't find anyone online who did it this way.
I know how concerned the radiologist at hospital one was about the radial scar. Even though my pathology was ok I felt like he was concerned. It makes me worried. I just have a bad feeling. And the 3 months I've been doing this doesn't help.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has had delayed progress.
Thanks!

I had multiple biopsies prior to my surgery. All were following a BIRADS 5 mammogram, so my case was already highly likely to be cancer. With you, they are being vigilant, but with good pathology each time, it doesn’t sound ominous to me. A cyst is not a tumor. Scar tissue isn’t a tumor. Your surgeon, should you be referred to one, will be able to help you understand what they may be removing. Radiologists look for anything abnormal, and we all have architectural features. That’s actually one of the drawbacks of mammography, false positives. That doesn’t mean we should skip them, just know that you are following best practices for your particular situation. It sounds to me (I’m not a doctor, or medical professional) that they are just conservatively evaluating you.
