I am having a mastectomy after a recurrence of DCIS. I decided when I was first diagnosed in 2016 that if I had br ca again, I would get a mastectomy and remain flat. I have had 6 yrs to ponder this and feel firmly that going flat is the right choice for me. I have seen pictures of various results, some better than others. How does one make a good decision? I already met with a surgeon at Yale. I showed him pictures and he said I would probably need a little looser skin on the side that was radiated originally for better healing purposes. He said I shouldn't expect to like like the pictures that I felt were great results. We talked about dog ears and how they could be revised at a later date. I also have a meeting with a surgeon from MSK in about 1 1/2 weeks. Will see what she has to say. Someone recommended a different surgeon at Yale that did her mastectomy to flat and was very pleased with her results. I was thinking of maybe seeing what that surgeon had to say.... I just don't know how to make a good decision here....

Kkubsky - it's really difficult to see that you've started yet another thread. People are continuing to post on your other thread & this dilutes the answers.

But my opinion - get a 2nd or 3rd opinion at these excellent facilities. Pick one you personally relate to the best. You've been researching this for years & now's the time to pull the trigger & go for it.
