How can I bypass the insurance barriers?

I've found a place that will do the required additional mammogram & ultrasound in the next 2 weeks (instead of the 2 months at the place where I had the initial mammogram!) but now they say that they will not do it without the insurance approval, even though I'm willing to pay for it out of pocket, in advance! Any idea how to resolve this problem? I can't understand why won't they and how to bypass this problem. Any ideas? Any resources that you can direct me to from your experience?
