Bleeding after stopping Tamoxifen?

Hi guys! I took Tamoxifen for 10 years and finished in July. In late August, I started bleeding, first spotting, at one point it turned into what seemed like a long, period, and then finally finished. It went on for a really long time - several weeks. I finally got in to see my ob-gyn and she wants to do an ultrasound, of course. Obviously, I took the first train to Panicsville because I'm worried about uterine or endometrial cancer. Has anyone else had this experience of bleeding after stopping Tamoxifen?

I was 37 when I started it and 47 when I finished. I don't know if I am menopausal or what. My guess is that there aren't that many people that have completed 10 years of Tamoxifen. It became the standard recommendation when I was in year 3, I think.

Sweetbeen! I haven't been on here for a while now but came back to read up on this topic, getting of Tamoxifen after ten years soon. I am not there just yet, April 2022 will be my last month of taking it so I want to be prepared.

I was 34 (now coming o 45!) when I started and also got goserelin (the shot that temporarily kill your ovaries) for three years. One year after that I had what I thought was a period again, heavy bleeding and for a really long time. After that I was bleeding maybe four times a year. I read about problems with Tamoxifen and thickening of the uterus, freake out and went to my gynaecologist. She checked my uterus and I had thickening but nothing too alarming. She said I didn't have a proper period but that my uterine lining was…eeek…"shedding".

The last year I didn't bleed at all for more than 6 months and then it did start again, and it was heavy and for a little too long. At the gynaecologist again, she had an ultrasound to measure how thick the lining was and a small biopsy. Everything looked ok.

I also remember having a polyp at one stage during these years and it just magically went away. Before that my gyn said if it doesn't go away we have to scrape it and that's that. Didn't have to.

I remember reading that a thickened uterus lining doesn't become normal until several months after stopping Tamoxifen. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you're doing the right thing checking it up, and as hard as it is, try not to worry. It's probably just a period and you're probably peri menopausal. A lot of my friends are in that stage now and they have weird periods and they too have to check it up.

I find it quite frustrating not knowing if you're menopausal o peri menopausal or what. Bleeding as in “period" or something else (gosh now that I think of it I don't know if I'm going to continue Tamoxifen these last four months…) Hope you will get a comforting answer very soon.
