Proton vs Photon regular rads? I can't get any more regular rads

I"ve been through standard radiation twice. I now have hilar nodes lighting up and because I"ve had alot of rads, doc doesn't want to give me anymore reg rads because it might damage my lungs.

I would prob be a candidate for proton therapy but I live in Canada where that's not available. I am considering going to the states because i only have cancer in my nodes. This could potentially cure me and let me live longer at the least instead of just waiting to let it spread.

ANyone does this, get proton becauise they couldn't get anymore regular rads?

TIA

DancingDiva - I answered on one of the other thread you started. It would be better to consolidate to one thread so people could follow along. Ask all you questions on one thread.

Dancingdiva - I had proton therapy and I think at that time I was told by the radiologist that the old adage that if you've had radiation you can't have it again, is no more, and they look at it on a case by case basis; and yes, there are some who just cannot get more radiation, but it's not just a given anymore. I would suggest that you talk to a radiologist who does proton and see what they think. I've also seen where other Canadians who post here come to the US for proton treatment. Sounds like if it's really determined to be medically necessary you can get the travel covered also. I can really understand you dilemma and hope you find a solution.
