Pain with DCIS?

Hello everyone.

On Monday, I received my DCIS diagnosis from my radiologist, who performed my core biopsy on November 3rd.

Ever since my diagnostic mammogram, I've noticed a strange feeling in affected breast. Almost like a dull ache or a deep itching feeling that comes and goes. I've been acutely aware of these sensations as well as an occasional achy feeling in my nipple as well.

Part of me thinks it's all in my head and I'm just hyper focused on all things to do with my breasts. Part of me wonders if it's from the biopsy procedure. And of course part of me thinks it's the cancer.

I know none of you can tell me what's going on in my body, but did any of you experience a similar sensation with your DCIS?

Fortunately I will be meeting with my surgeon for a consult in the morning, but I'm still interested in other people's experiences if anyone can weigh in.

Thank you so much.

Dartmouth - No - I had no pain or itching or any indication before or after my diagnosis with DCIS. Hope your meeting with the surgeon goes well.

    Thank you, @MinusTwo.

I've never had "real" surgery so I'm kinda nervous but also pleased that things are moving quickly. I appreciate the well wishes.

(I had a surgical excision on my face of a BCC a couple of years ago, but there was no discomfort or down time for that)

Dartmouth - lots on new things in the upcoming days. I'd recommend you try to find answers on BCO or Mayo or Johns Hopkins or similar - NOT "dr" google. I had a bilateral mastectomy because I was sick & tired of recalls every year. Turns out it was a good decision since there were issues with the "good" breast.

DartmouthSailor - My first indication that something was wrong was an odd sensation and that is what I went to the PCP with, a month after a clear mammo. It turned out to be an enlarged duct which then got clogged with debris and probably would have been found on my next annual mammo. I found the aftermath of the biopsy to be more painful than that of the excisional biopsy. Hope your surgery goes as well as mine did!

    Thank you, both.

I had my consult this morning and my surgeon says that what I am feeling is inflammation from the carbon used during the biopsy (we don't use clips here for whatever reason).

Sometimes it's nice to know that you are feeling things you think you are and that they aren't all in your head!

Lumpectomy under general anesthesia is scheduled for December 2nd! And I hope for the same, @Jelson!

I had residual pain as well. In fact, I had been having radiating pain down the affected side’s arm for many months prior to diagnosis. My mass was only 5 mm!

I chose a BMX. When I woke up in recovery the strange pain was gone and has never returned.

Oh that's interesting, VegGal. Just goes to show how very different everyone's experience is, eh?
