DCIS lumpectomy no rads, double mastectomy in 3 months

Hey gang! I was diagnosed with grade 2 DCIS in mid October. Then just a few weeks later found out I’m BRCA2+. Yesterday I had a lumpectomy and my ovaries and tubes removed. In a few months I’ll be going in for a double mastectomy and diep flap reconstruction. My BS said I don’t need radiation as long as we do the mastectomy within 3 months. Has anyone else had this same plan or similar? I’m worried that without radiation there may be some rogue cancer cell that escapes and we won’t know.

    That sounds like a great plan. DCIS is typically slow growing, and the BMX should clean up any stray cells. Avoiding radiation is a good idea if it can be done safely, and your doc sounds spot on.
