Biweekly abraxene
Hello. Is anyone else getting abraxene biweekly instead of 3 weeks on a row? I am getting it day 1 and 21. I have issues with anemia and it's supposed to give me time to recover Just wondering if anyone else has had success with this schedule. I am also getting monthly zometa. I'll be on abraxene for 3 months then hormone therapy. Hope you're all well out there.

Hi marlie, I'm confused what you're doing now & what they're proposing.
I'm getting it every 3 weeks right now. That's the recommended dosing. "Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC): Recommended dosage of ABRAXANE is 260 mg/m2 intravenously over 30 minutes every 3 weeks."

I've been on it since Nov 2020 (was on weekly taxol before that)
Sometimes abraxane gets administered weekly at a lower dose, 3 weeks on/1 week off. (btw, it is a lot more expensive to administer it on this schedule as more of the vial gets wasted each week)
I don't think I've heard of an every 2 weeks dosing...

Hi Moth, yeah I switched oncologists and my first one started the biweekly schedule. My new one was going to do the 3 weeks on one week off. Then when he saw she had it biweekly, he decided to keep it that way. He noticed my anemia stays with me and said he would keep it biweekly. I guess I should know my dose amount. That I not sure of. He said he would've just started me on hormone therapy, but since my old oncologist started the chemo he wanted to finish out the 3 cycles.

when I did Abraxane I was doing day one , day eight and off until day 21. I can’t remember what my dose was but it worked pretty well at the time

@B-A-P thanks for the reply. I guess it's whatever they think will work for each different case. I will just keep the faith it's working. I feel pretty good on it, so that's a plus. Be well ❤️🩹.

Marlie, I had abraxane weekly during my initial chemo. This was because I had previous severe reactions to taxotere and taxol. So, while unusual, a lower dose was given weekly with premeds. It’s not very common but does happen.

I get Abraxane every two weeks. I started in July. First oncologist did it that way for first two months. Then we moved and the new MO followed same. I don't know why as my blood counts seem good, a little low as they were on ibrance. I asked new MO about 3 weeks on and one week off but that went nowhere. She wants 3 months of Abraxane she administers then a new scan. Last month she brought up that I wasn't anemic and I should be confident about my immune system, I would assume that is an opinion based on my bloodwork. I hadn't voiced concerns about it as far as I know.
My SE might interest some. The four first fusions I had with the prior MO had no SE issues. Hair did fall out. After the move the next 4 infusions I have had severe SE, muscle and joint pain, head to toe, for days to a week after infusion. The very first infusion was hurting on the way out of the parking and I could barely open my mouth to eat lunch because the pain in my jaw was so bad, just soft food and liquid. BTW the jaw had no known met. I brought thwe pain up to MO and she seemed surprised and suggested maybe it is the medium they use. This last 14 day cycle I would say I had 5 good days at the end.
