Core needle biopsy

    Hi

I found a lump on the underside of my left breast around 3 weeks ago. I had my breast clinic appointment today. The consultant examined me and asked where this lump was. I showed him where and he felt it quickly and said 'its definitely not a cyst, its normal breast tissue'!!!!? I was thinking... It bloody aint!

He sent me for an ultrasound anyway where they found what they said looked like a fair sized cyst. She said we can drain it now for u with a fine needle... Needle goes in and they pull on the syringe and nothing happens. They tried a few times and nothing came out except maybe a teeny bit of super thick orangy substance. They decided to do a core needle biopsy and took 2 samples from it. I am quite sore now but i got my appointment for my results in 2 weeks before i walked out of the room asking me to bring someone with me if i could. I did ask if it was all ok... She said she couldn't be sure but dont worry too much as we dont know whether its an infected cyst or something else.

Anyone else had this? Ive checked online and infected cysts still produce some fluid? I saw it on the screen... A dark oval type shape. She also scanned my armpits while i was there. Cant really find much information on what it could be... And im really pissed at my consultant and the way he dismissed me.

At this point you really can't tell anything until the pathologist looks at the samples from the biopsy. Palpation and imaging such as ultrasound can only take us so far - it could be lots of things. I know it's hard but try to not worry yourself over it. The pathologist will tell you when they've examined the cells.

Good for you for following your instinct and getting in to see a dr. Bummer they were dismissive of it - it's really hard to feel things in breasts - that's why we have imaging & the owners of the breasts usually know quite well what is normal and not.

    Best wishes!

Thank you both for your replies. I have plenty to keep me busy 😂 3 kids definitely keep me occupied. My gp took it seriously and there was a definite lump.... The consultant today, i felt, didnt examine me properly and passed it off as normal breast tissue. Well, he made himself look stupid in front of 3 other people, but i am glad he ordered the ultrasound without me asking.

The waiting is the WORST part. I was told i would have good or bad news today after my scan but came away with neither 😂
