I recently (<2weeks) had surgery including ALND and Lx. Why do I have to wear a supportivebra at night? And What can I do about arm nerve discomfort?

    Quick answers:

    - If your surgeon recommended wearing the bra, wear or call to ask if you can stop. Surgeons have different recommendations after surgery but you should follow your surgeon’s directions.

    - The nerve discomfort is part of healing as nerves regenerate. This is completely normal and diminishes over time.

You did not mention what type of surgery you had, but I think it sounds like a mastectomy. Take care and remember that you are still healing. Also, don’t hesitate to contact your surgeon if you have questions.

I highly recommend wearing the bra/as much compression as you can reasonably tolerate. 1 week post surgery I was having some incision discomfort and switched to less support bras which was a mistake. I had more swelling and fluid and sort of set me back in recovering. It def helps in the healing process. It took the 6 weeks to really recover for me, and I was healthy/active before surgery.

Did they provide stretches to do post surgery? I recommend doing that to help with any arm nerve issues. Reasonable activity helped me feel better.

You should be having regular follow-ups with surgeon, so hopefully you can ask them.

I had a lumpectomy and ancillary lymph node dissection. Thank you for your advice

thank you for the suggestion about the bra. I assume for now that it is kind of like a cast, holding things in place as much as possible. I’m just not used to wearing a bra twenty-four seven
