After Chemotherapy ends- Dry mouth, irritated nasal passages

Hi All,

I finished Taxol on Oct 5th. I am wondering if any veterans on here recall how long it took before their dry mouth and/or dry/drippy, irritated/bloody-ish nose healed? Every time the nose seems better I blow too hard or cry too hard and it starts to bleed a little again. I am super over both symptoms. ENT told me 6 weeks for my nasal passages to fully heal and not need me to continue to moisturize them. Dry eyes? Dark circles with bags under the eyes?

My mouth sores/soreness and throat irritation healed 2 weeks after my final chemotherapy if that helps anyone else. My appetite is also back. My skin tone looks less deathly. Acne stopped. Annoying occasional cough stopped.

I used Biotine for dry mouth. It comes in a spray, a lozenge, a mourh wash & a rinse. And my opthomologist told me to use something like Systane for liquid tears for dry eye.

Do you recall how long it took for these fantastic side effects to go away after chemotherapy ended?

    Thanks

Breeda - you haven't added your diagnosis & treatment, and that will make a difference. I was HER2+ so I was on Herceptin for most of a year. I continued to have occasional dry mouth & eyes during that year,.

I'm on Taxol and also have a dry/drippy nose. There appears to be a spot in there that gets a bit bloody, but hasn't caused an actual nose bleed. It's just when I blow it, and then it gets sort of crusty in the bloody spot. So gross. I guess I'll tell them about it at treatment this week. All of this is such a pain!

I'm Triple Negative stage 2b. I had AC-T and completed Taxol on 10/5/21. I can't put my diagnosis and treatment in under settings for some reason there is no option to enter anything under that. Or I blame chemo brain. Thanks for responding.

So keep your nares moist. I don't know where you are at in your chemo/how many you have left. Saline nasal spray several times a day, don't aim into your nares do it from the outside so you don't disrupt the tissue. Neti pot if needed and your MD says Ok. Vaseline to the nares with your finger tiny smear 2-3 x a day- Lots of people don't like Vaseline but this is what my ENT told me to do. Cool mist humidifier at night. I also used cold pack if it got sore/stuffy to loosen stuff up and reduce inflammation OR I would alternate a warm pack/cold pack on my nose. I finished my 12 Taxol on 10/5/21.

I'm nearly 3 weeks since my last dose and my nasal tissue is still a bit irritated but healing and much less blood when blowing or dripping.
