Holidays and Radiation Schedule

I start my actual radiation (not the planning or simulation) the week of 11/1.

I'm doing hypo fractionated, so 3 weeks (or 16 treatments) and then a possible boost for an additional 5 treatments depending on what the BCS and RO agree is appropriate.

I just noticed that 2 holidays fall within my radiation schedule - Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving. What happens then? How do the 5 treatments for the week get completed when there's a holiday?

There are some days I wish I had opted for a mastectomy but I of course know that's no picnic either.

You need to ask your RO's office about what happens. Most likely, you won't have rads on the holiday, but it will be added to the schedule as one more day.

I started mine at the end of October. Veterans Day is just another day for hospitals, so no schedule changes. For Thanksgiving, I was given a choice of adding a day at the end or coming in that Sunday. It might vary from one facility to another.

July 4th happened both times I received radiation. The place was closed, and we skipped that day. I still had the designated number of treatments. I think it's worth asking your doctor.

Yeah, I'll definitely ask. I go for planning this coming Thurs. Was just curious. I'm most worried about Thanksgiving, because I wonder if they are closed Friday as well, so then I'm missing 4 days in between rather than 2.

I had my treatment the day after Thanksgiving.
