Capecitabine Maintenance Therapy for TNBC

Options

Can anyone guide that how many countries or medical practitioners have adopted the research SYSUCC-001 "Effect of Capecitabine Maintenance Therapy Using Lower Dosage and Higher Frequency vs Observation on Disease-Free Survival Among Patients With Early-Stage Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Who Had Received Standard Treatment".

We live in Pakistan and my wife's oncologist has advised us to go with this research. She was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer and has shown a complete pathological response to chemo and there was no residual disease left after surgery.

Hi omerabbas, I am to start this drug (trade name Xeloda) due to a few residual cells post surgery, so practitioners are using it. Congratulations on you wife's PCR. TNBC is considered aggressive so the drug is good for disease-free maintenance at preventing recurrence and increasing survival.

Hi! I was looking to start a thread for those of us starting or already taking Xeloda for maintenance purposes and happened to find this.

I'm a week and a couple days out from my last radiation treatment due to a local recurrence. I'm to start Madame X (Xeloda) in three weeks (11/9). I had taken it briefly a year ago about three cycles, but had some severe side effects and had to stop.

Omerrabbas - I hope it goes well for your wife. How long will she need to take it?

Hope - I hope it goes well for you a well. Keep us posted as to how it goes.

One common side effect is hand and foot. I did not experience that last year, but had started lathering my feet up with Aquauphor right from the beginning. I'm hoping that I have an easier time on it this time around. I was less than 3 months out from my last chemo infusion when I started and I'm thinking that my SE's were residual from chemo. I learned that it was best to take it with food, my doctor did not tell me that, but many in the Stage IV thread recommend it.

    Best wishes!
