Dear all,

I would like to ask those who had their first chemo treatment - the side effects after the first treatment. Would I still be able to work after a couple of days rest?

I had Mastectomy on my left breast and will still undergo Chemo treatments but I haven't scheduled it yet since I want to know first if I will be able to work right after the first treatment or should I take a leave of absence maybe after a couple of chemo sessions?

My treatment Plan : Taxol/ Herceptin

Taxol every week x 12

Herceptin every 3 weeks x 18

Thank you all for your inputs.

Regina

Some ladies worked straight through chemo. I had mine on Thursday so I felt crummy over the weekend was ok by Monday. We all react differently, can’t really tell you what to do

    Hi Regina,

I was on weekly Taxol, and 3 weeks Herceptin/perjeta. I was able to work full time except for the time I was absent for infusion. I was super tired starting third day. My third day was on Fridays so I would suffer a little that day, then Saturday I would mostly rest. I was mostly ok from Sunday. Good luck.

    Hi Regina,

It might depend on personal factors and the type of work you do. I just had my first round of taxol/Herceptin last Wednesday.

Day 1 (Wed) and day 2 (Thurs) we’re my most difficult days. I felt groggy, nauseated and tired. Sleep was disturbed the first night. Day 3 (Friday) I could work (at home). Day 4 I ended up with some pelvic pain that was 4/10. I could work from home if it was a work day, but I would have struggled having to be out of the house. Day 5, 6, & 7 I could (and did) work. I feel pretty normal (except I’m tired bc I didn’t sleep well last night related to anxiety about upcoming chemotherapy).

I’m 39 with no other health challenges. My job is 100% online with very flexible hrs.

I hope that helps! Please feel free to ask any questions.
