HER2+ Cooling Caps or No?

Options

Hello. I am recently diagnosed Invasive Lobular (HER2+) and mets to the bones. So, diagnosed mets from the very start. It's a lot to take in. I have many questions, most of which I have found good info on other threads, but I can't find anything about HER2+ MBC and cooling caps.

I will be having 6 cycles of chemotherapy and HER2+ targeted treatments and then shifting just to HER2 treatments. HER2 treatments do not affect hair loss so I'm thinking about trying the caps. Did anyone else with HER2+ do this? Was it worth your time/money/hassle?

In the back of my mind, I'm thinking ... I have no idea if / when I'll need to do chemotherapy again in the future so should I get on this cooling cap train or just deal with the hair loss. Your advice is appreciated.

Hi I personal opinion is NO, I did it last year for my full chemo tx. it was the most uncomfortable part of the infusion time! after my surgery my hair started falling out, it was so discouraging & un epected my feeling is it delays the the inevitable.

    very expensive & painful!

Angie - there are tons of discussions about cold caps - some very recent. Try entering in the search bar on the left. I did not use one but my hair grew back very well after the Taxotere & Carboplatin portion ended - so the Herceptin for HER2+ during the rest of a year wasn't an issue.

I used one - could not face the losing hair part. Hair thinned a lot but still did not wear wigs etc. There is like a 2000 pages cold cap discussion thread on the main chemo board.
