Scared to death/ DCIS

Hello! I am very new at this, please forgive me if I make a mistake. I was diagnosed by biopsy 2.5 weeks ago with Grade 3 DCIS with comedo necrosis that is 5.4cm. It was found on a screening mammogram, and I had just had one last year that was normal. It looks like I will have a mastectomy with reconstruction the last week of October. Everything I read makes me fear that there will be lymph node involvement or invasive disease due to the size and grade of the lesion. Has anyone else had a lesion this big or bigger that was high grade that turned out to be contained? I am also terrified it will spread, if it hasn't already, by the time I have the surgery. I am just scared.

    Hello Istagg,

So sorry you had to join us, and sorry you are so scared. Cancer is very scary!

Someone will be along soon to address your specific questions. In the meantime, know that it is normal to “fear the worst” about spread. Until you get the pathology, that will always be hanging over you. The wait til surgery day also probably seems eons away, but I can assure you, the day will come sooner than you think it will now.

In the meantime, take some time to get your body ready for surgery. Up your protein, drink lots of water and try to cut back on any bad habits you may have. Go for long walks to clear your head and strengthen your body.

    You can do this
