Scared to death/ DCIS
Hello! I am very new at this, please forgive me if I make a mistake. I was diagnosed by biopsy 2.5 weeks ago with Grade 3 DCIS with comedo necrosis that is 5.4cm. It was found on a screening mammogram, and I had just had one last year that was normal. It looks like I will have a mastectomy with reconstruction the last week of October. Everything I read makes me fear that there will be lymph node involvement or invasive disease due to the size and grade of the lesion. Has anyone else had a lesion this big or bigger that was high grade that turned out to be contained? I am also terrified it will spread, if it hasn't already, by the time I have the surgery. I am just scared.

One day at a time.... It will all come together, but of course you are scared. That is normal. You are not alone, as you can see, and we're all here for you!

((Hugs)) to you!! Sorry you are here dealing with this diagnosis.
When I 1st got my diagnosis the dr told me that most types of breast cancer are slow growing so no huge rush on scheduling surgery. I got my diagnosis on 7/15, and he told me I could wait till the end of summer if I had vacation plans or things I wanted to do. (My type is different than yours though so don’t know for sure) I would think if they had concerns about it spreading they would find a way to fit you in sooner.
Hang in there!!

I was initially diagnosed with 3 cm of Grade 3 with expansive comedo necrosis, multifocal. After MRI the area grew to 6 cm. My surgeon expected invasion. I was diagnosed on July 21 - at least that's when I heard about the diagnosis after about a 1 week delay. I had BMX on August 31. 1.5 cm of DCIS was removed during biopsy. Another 3 cm turned out to be a bunch of benign and precancerous conditions. The remaining area of DCIS turned about to be about 1.2 cm (so 2.7 cm all total from pre-biopsy to post surgery). NO invasion - we were all surprised and thankful!!! I did not undergo radiation or an AI due to medical issues preventing the former and very weak ER and PR so chose not to do the latter. No scans since and my 3rd follow up with onc in about 2 weeks. So far so good.... Wishing you the same! Please keep us posted....

Thank you all! I really appreciate the information. The waiting for more specifics is the hardest part, as I seem to want to know everything right now! Trying not to drive myself crazy.
